The best eye care place I been to in 20 years everyone one their is very friendly very helpful polite and just made me feel like family. Honest people I loved every moment and service was very fast

Ive been wearing glasses for over 30 yrs. And have seen many optometrists over the years. And I have never, never been examined by someone as unprofessional as he.I was on the verge of tears andnearly walked out. He continually expected me to read lines I could not see. I would tell him he could not see them but he chose to just sit there and wait. So I strained and squinted until I could see something . Then, what felt like a scolding, he told me two of the same letters would not be in a row .Well thats what I see! I told him.Never again will I go to this place.

Probably the worst ran office in Abilene. Had to pay out of pocket for an exam that my insurance covered. Called the financing lady twice and she was out of the office both time in middle of week. Finally spoke to another lady named Monica twice and can’t receive a call back. Was told once my claim was covered by insurance I’d be reimbursed. Well no one calls ever. I have to call over and over for them to fix their own mistake. Don’t go to this office they don’t take the time to do their jobs correctly. A hassle on top of another hassle.

I have had the best experiences since Dr. Michael Shanks has been my optometrist. He is always thorough and very caring. The enthusiasm of the staff is contagious. Service with my eyeglasses is great. I have never had a problem with wrong prescriptions being messed up, which I have had in the past with other doctors. I live out of town and he has always made great recommendations when I have needed services closer to home.

Professional EyeCare Associates is THE place to go for all of your eye care needs in Abilene and West Texas. Dr. Shanks is an utmost professional and extremely thorough. He is kind, caring and listens; giving each patient his undivided attention during eye exams and always having their best interest at heart. One thing that is so unusual in this day and time is how friendly, engaging and professional his staff is, which is often the exception and not the rule in so many medical offices. I absolutely LOVE this office staff and Dr.!! They are so helpful and kind. Dr. Shanks takes time to explain what is going on and how your vision is going to be affected. They do what is right for you health wise and financially.

Definitely a good experience. I have gone to several places for contacts and had trouble finding a doctor that would recommend any that were comfortable for my eyes. Dr. Shanks discovered that I probably have an intolerance or allergy to a material used in many brands of contacts and was able to find a brand that was right for me. I can usually get an appointment quickly too.

Dr. Shanks and his staff are excellent in everything they do. Office environment is clean and welcoming. Appointments are on time and staff is service oriented. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for professional eye care.

This place is a complete joke! New to the area and on my Tricare provider list. Went in for a routine exam that is covered by my insurance. Before leaving they told me I had a copay which has never happened. I gave them the copay and then followed up with the Tricare for them to tell me I was definitely being scammed because they paid my full exam. Called over and over again and had to deal with their BS. Also, got a new contact script and the trials continued to tear in my eyes after an hour or so of wearing. Dont waste your time there.

Dr. Shanks does a great job on every visit I have for my eyecare. He is professional and thorough with with my eye exam. The office staff has great customer service and is always responsive to any needs I have. Dr. Shanks sees my family and takes care of all our vision needs. My experience with Dr. Shanks and the staff at Professional Eyecare Associates in Abilene was far and away the best Ive ever had. To begin with, Dr. Shanks is an excellent clinician. Furthermore, he is able to explain the science of your vision health in a comfortable, easy-to-understand manner. Having the right prescription has made a world of difference to me! I never knew it could reduce headaches and help with driving at night. The dispensary has MANY frames from which to choose - from designer brands to basic/budget friendly. Whichever you choose, they will be fitted and adjusted with expert precision for maximum comfort. I recommend highly, without hesitation or reservation!

Doctor and staff really helped me out in a pinch. I was traveling and woke up with something scratching my left eye. Dr. Shanks squeezed me in during his busy schedule and solved the issue. Clean nice office that I highly would recommend to anyone.

This was my first experience at an eye doctor. I must say that they are very pleasant to work with. Very great staff.

The optometry specialist I was planning to see this year moved out of Abilene. I decided to stick with the same provider as last year. The waiting time to be seen was always about 15-20 minutes for my last three visits. My last visit, to review my contact fitting, the wait time was over 1 hour for a 2 minutes checkup. The staff did not check up on me until after I waited 50 minutes. I advise that I waited this long already, I did not want to come back and wait again. My checkup with Dr. Michael Shanks was less than 2 minutes, and I walked out of that office feeling like an idiot, disrespected, etc. I will never RETURN or RECOMMEND this provider to anyone.

I have been coming here for years, and am disappointed in the service. I had an eye exam and changed the type of contacts I was wearing. I was given a trial pair and called immediately saying I couldn’t see out of them correctly. I was told I was given the wrong prescription (just a little off according to them) because they didn’t have my current prescription in stock but they would order a new trial pair.I never received a call saying the trial pair had come in, I go to pick up the new trial pair and after complaining now more than once that I can’t see out of these contacts either for some reason (after the 3rd phone call) I’m told “Oh the Dr messed up your prescription, he has your prescription backwards so just switch your contacts)So after weeks and complaining numerous times someone just now is going to tell me it’s wrong? I’ve been dizzy, unable to see all because of an error that should have been caught weeks ago.I’ve always purchased my contacts/glasses from them even though they are over priced but not again. I asked for my CORRECT prescription and told them I would go elsewhere. No apology, no offer to make it right.....will not be coming back and will find a new doctor.

Not nice never called us when out contacts were in when I did pick them up they only gave one side and called and blamed me forgetting the other side the front desk never said hi or come back nothing friendly she was singing to herself the whole time and that might be the Reason she forgot to give me my prescription after driving off I checked all my paperwork and had to go back there is no apology for forgetting it no apology for having to come back to get it she just looked at me and that was it so I’m choosing to choose another place After speaking to my wife she had the same experience and we agree somewhere else it’s probably better

There is no good response to my review and it seems it was accurate in that this company is not military friendly and they have no intentions to change that.Perhaps they have something against those who put on a uniform? If you serve, I highly recommend you look elsewhere for your optometry needs.Also, the very next optometrist I took my daughter to understood they did not need a photocopy, did not treat us badly because we were Mil and preferred not to have my ID photocopied, and received full payment and verification without a photocopy, as it’s not required in any way for anyone to have a photocopy. Makes you wonder if they have alternative motives to wanting photocopies of Military IDs?I’d like to also say thank you to all those who do serve or have served, to include law enforcement! Happy New Year!Previous post from 1 yr + ago below——————————————————————For now I have to rate 1 Star, but I am willing to reassess if the issue I ran into today is properly addressed.My 7 year old daughter went in for her first optometry appointment and was turned away due to the fact that I wanted to protect myself and not be forced to make photocopies of my gov ID.I called ahead of time and the office manager said it was not an issue, but then changed positions when we arrived. When speaking with the eye doctor, I explained that tricare says photocopies are not required.The doctor insisted that even though he IS NOT required to make a photocopy, he maintains his office policy to mandate it because for now, the handbook says he can do it.Attempting to resolve the issue, as I was hoping my daughter would not have to wait to be checked, I called tricare and got a supervisor on the line who verified to the doctor on speakerphone that it is not required and that they by no means have to make that photocopy for tricare to verify coverage and pay them for their services.Tricare stated that all the docs office needs to do is look at my ID, verify and write down my benefits number/DOD ID # (which replaced SSNs for security) and submit that info without a photocopy, and that would take care if it. A photocopy is not required. We were still sent on our way without an exam for my little one.Removing social security numbers from IDs and doing away with photocopies was enacted to protect the identities of Americas troops.Tricare sent an email to the office representative on the issue, and I can only imagine that other optometrists will understand the issue, accept tricares explanation that they will still get paid as usual without a photocopy of a military ID, because it is not required (which troops are not required to provide), and happily accept the business and new customer.
