The staff here are super friendly and so polite. The shop is clean and are following social distancing. I took my bike just for a minor checkup and they didn’t charge me at all. There is parking at the back of the store. The bike prices are also reasonable.

I use my bike to commute to campus about 4 miles at a time. Jonah Cooke helped me choose a bunch of parts for my bicycle that really needed some love. I let him know my budget and he managed to get everything I needed within the budget I specified. Jonah was fantastic to work with. Im happy to recommend the Bike Barn to anyone.

Stopped by here on my way home because it was convenient. Refused to sell me a component unless I also paid for the install due to scarcity of the part. Conveniently, I bought the same component from East Coasters with no issue later the same day! Dont give this establishment your business, it has a terrible mindset.Edit as a response/clarification: They had the item (a chain) in stock and said as much. I understand the impacts of these times, but the behavior of not selling it to me unless you could also charge me for labor (of a relatively routine and easy repair) was wrong. Thus the reason for this negative review.

Young man has great customer skills and has good bicycle technician skills. Looked over my bicycle made a minor adjustment and sent me on my way. Been there several times and greatly appreciate their work ethics and the friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend this place for repair service. Wide assortment of new bicycles to choose from as well.

Stopped in here about a month ago, with my dad, looking for a tire tube. The young guy that helped was courteous and friendly. As we approached the register, where an older gentleman was waiting, I asked a few questions about customizing a bike. The gentleman at the register began bad mouthing our bikes and me. Very bad customer service from the older gentleman. Great price on the tube, which tells me they mark up the prices on everything else. I will not return.

Amazing one on one customer service - Ethan, Buzz, and the rest of the staff. Bought a very good used-refurbished bike for a very reasonable cost. Had issues with brakes and derailleurs. Brought in in twice, both times they replaced brake pads and the entirety of the braking system for free, on the spot, extremely quickly, honoring their quality code for the bikes they sell. As a budget constrained college student with my bike as my only means of immediate transport, this means a huge lot.

Probably a good option for basic neighborhood bike maintenance if you dont prefer to do it yourself. I wouldnt recommend if you are looking for technical repairs on a bike you care about or use athletically/competitively, or detail-oriented servicing. Have given this shop a couple chances and they are not for us - depending on who you speak with, service is either dismissive and unhelpful, or polite but seems inexperienced.

Weve bought a few bikes from the Bike Barn. They gave us a good deal on a late model bike that some stores were selling for three times the price. They also gave a free tune up with the purchase of the bikes. And theyve done a lot of work on our bikes to keep them working awesome. I enjoyed their low pressure try everything approach to customer service. I wouldnt go anywhere else. I think Ill go ride!

I have been a customer for 3 years. I have bought 2 bikes from them. The last one a high end product. This was built by them expertly. Their customer service is second to none. There are other bike stores in Blackburg but will go to no other shop.I recommend them highly and find their professionalism and courtesy refreshing.

I purchased a bike here about two months ago. The other day, while riding on the Huckelberry trail, I noticed a problem with one of the pedals. Upon examination, I realized that the bolt that connected the pedal to the crank shaft had come loose because the threads were stripped. I took it back to the Bike Barn and the owner could not have been more gracious or helpful. He immediately stated that they would, of course, repair it. Two hours later my bike was ready to go with a new crank shaft installed. I now consider myself a loyal customer and can highly recommend the Bike Barn to anyone!Charles Meade

I just moved into my dorm at VT last week and wanted a bike to stay out of the heat as long as I could. I caught their summer sale on the last day; and got a great bike at a great price and received outstanding customer service. The workers are extremely helpful and knowledgable and are genuinely concerned with getting you the right bike. Will be shopping here for all future biking needs while Im going to Tech.

Nice customer service when you are buying but completely AWFUL when you are returning! The white haired man made the comment “this isn’t walmart you can’t just return things” amongst other snarky remarks. If you’re going to have an attitude with returns then don’t have a 30 day return policy.

Nice equipment, awful customer service. I purchased a bike and the break system began to malfunction so I brought the bike by and no one was able to help me. I called Blake Aldridge, the owner, and tried to ask a question about my new purchase and he refused to answer my questions over the phone as he was too busy. These are the type of people who only act nice and helpful to try and get a sale.

Terrible 15 minute experience. I was having some issues with my gears on my bike and decided to take it to The Bike Barn to have a mechanic look at it since I was in town for the week. When I went to the back, a mechanic approached me and said Hi. I began explaining to him what I was having an issue with when he said Let me stop you. Ill take a look at it and tell you whats wrong. When he put my bike in the mechanic stand and started working on it, I asked him if I needed to adjust the high limit screw on my front derailleur. He looked at me and said Ive been doing this for 25 years, I dont have time to sit back here and give lessons. Seriously? Then, I decided to just wait patiently and let him do his thing. A few minutes later, he took my bike out of the mechanic stand and rolled it out to me and said Youre good to go. He looked toward the front desk and said $10 labor! and turned around and went back into the mechanics area. This was not a friendly customer experience. I left the shop without learning how he fixed the problem and a little annoyed by how I was treated. Bike shops should tell their customers what was wrong with their bike, how they fixed it and give them some tips on how to prevent future issues. I will not be returning here after that experience.

Inability to get parts significantly hurts the Bike Barns ability to provide repair service. Decent workmanship, but if you need anything but routine work, youre probably better to take your bike elsewhere. Unless you dont need your bike back anytime soon....

The young bike mech dude here does magic on my bike when it breaks! it is my only mode of transportation and if something goes out, i can always count on him to fix it. DO NOT go to east coasters unless you enjoy being ripped off, or waiting for weeks at a time for a small fix on your bike!

Best shop in town. Inventory is well-organized and they have a wide selection, from clothes to DIY tools to, of course, bikes. The employees are friendly and helpful, regardless of if you have a multi-thousand dollar road bike or (like me) and old bargain bike that needs some work thats over what you can do yourself. Prices are a bit steep for some of their retail stuff, but theyre selling high-end products in a fairly limited market, so thats to be expected. I feel like I would get the same kind of attention whether I was spending thousands of dollars or just a few.My latest experience was with the Schwinn hardtail I use to get around campus. I had a persistent clunk on one side, and I went in looking for a bottom bracket wrench to tighten it. The service tech (I think his name was Blake, and this is the same level of service Ive received from him every time Ive been in) said that he didnt have the tool I wanted, but that he could order it. He offered to have a look at my bike, and ended up riding it so he could hear the noise I was talking about. Although my bottom bracket was only very slightly loose and he was able to fix it pretty quickly, he went above and beyond and took both pedals off so that he could make sure everything was okay and checked and tightened both cones. All this for five bucks. The shop I used back home would have probably told me that there was nothing wrong with my bike and sent me off or charged me much more money to do a less complete job. I think that when it comes to bikes, just like with cars, it can often be difficult to find someone good to work on them. Bike Barn is, in my opinion, one of those few good shops. Check them out, you wont be disappointed.

I was surprised by some of the other reviews because I had a great experience getting my bike fixed at the Bike Barn. I broke a gear cable. First, I went elsewhere & was told Id have to wait 8 days -- no sorry included. When I walked in to the Bike Barn, the mechanic said, I can fix that for you now which was a recognition that I might want to be able to ride again as soon as possible. Since I needed a tune-up anyway, I mentioned that. He took a quick look, told me what he thought was needed, & said hed order parts then call when they were in so I could keep riding till then. Got the call, took my bike in at noon & it was ready w/new chain & rear cassette, all tuned up by 4pm. Needed a slight adjustment a couple of days later & they did it on the spot. To me, this is great customer service by people who understand cyclists who dont want to sit on the sidelines for a week.

I recently purchased a used bike on FB Marketplace. I didn’t have eough understanding at the time to determine the condition of the bike (poor...chain broke, and with new chain, wear on the cassette and crankset became extremely apparent).Ethan walked me through the options for replacing these parts, and was very knowledgeable, helpful, and detail oriented. Since getting my bike back, I’ve managed to fit a couple rides in, and it is smooth as SILK, now!I recommend these guys for anything you may need that is bike related.
