It’s pretty fantastic skiing on quality gear in really comfortable ski boots! I know!?! I always thought “comfortable ski boots” was an oxymoron too. PhD Skis is the first ski shop that walked me through the boot shopping and custom foot bed experience, AND made it fun, educational and downright pleasant.This will always be my ski shop, and Head boots and skis are now my favorite (not to mention they look cool too)!

Amazing local place with very knowledgeable staff. They helped me fit my ski boots properly by heating them up to allow the plastic to expand around my feet. They have never felt so comfortable.

My wife and I spent over four hours there and they helped us pick out new skis, bindings, and boots. Great customer service- one employee devoted half his day to us. They did some work on my existing boots that had packed out a bit and the boots now feel like new. They are waxing our skis for free this winter since we bought them there, which is a nice perk.

They went above and beyond to make a pair of boots fit for me that where special ordered last year. They realized there was a better boot for my unique foot shape and swapped it out no charge.

Kevin energetically greeted me as soon as I walked in the door and worked to fit me into the ideal ski boots. Stu and the guys at PhD always treat us right. They do a good job of not pressuring you to buy and focus more on making sure that youre going to be happy with your purchase in the long run. I just got a new pair of boots from them only 2 years after buying Black Diamond boots at another shop in town. The BDs were poorly fit and I should have gone to PhD in the first place, I wont make that mistake again.

Today was our first time in the shop. Ill never go anywhere else!It was SO NICE to finally have a shop that respected my daughter.In our experience, with the other shops in town, we have come to find that they are sufficient, but our experience today confirms that we have had crappy service at ALL of the other shops in town.Kevin treated my daughter like an adult, broke down our questions without making us feel stupid, and didnt make us feel like we had to buy anything. He offered straight-up help and guidance without any expectation of us. AND he was a totally sincere! ( I swear to god, if another tech talks to me and my daughter with a sense of machismo, Ill... Ill... but this isnt the point. PhD. Skis and Kevin treated us like skiers. They made us feel a part of the crew.).All in all, Im so grateful for todays shopping experience! Staff was extremely rude, belittling my opinion and talking down to my ten year old kids. Ended up leaving after the older gentleman yelled at me for not filling out paperwork that I already had, and was in the possession of another employee.

Very knowledgeable! I have really weird shaped feet and never managed to find fitting ski boots. Kevin worked hard to get the boots to fit. He got close, but in the end it didnt work out. He refunded the money. Such good customer service that I didnt end up with a boot my feet are not happy with. Thank you!

A solid choice if youre looking for a range of choices for skiing at a resort. Excellent boot fitters, including custom work.If you need backcountry or cross country gear, look elsewhere.

First time buying ski boots. Kevin (the owner) explained the difference in flex, etc. and the mistakes that other retailers make when getting people into a pair of boots. They really know their stuff here and want to make sure that the equipment you purchase from them is the best for you.

Last year I got my first pair of AT boots- they were a wonderful gift, except I hadnt been fitted for them prior. I have wide, flat, small feet- and I couldnt skin or ski anything in them without intense pain and collapsing into tears by the time it was over. The worst. I took them to multiple shops to get them punched, over and over, to no avail. I was about to throw in the towel when PhD Skis was recommended. They molded the whole toe box of my boot (instead of random punching on the sides) and set me up with a thinner footbed- resulting in MIRACLES! I went out last weekend and toured all day with only mild discomfort, compared to the excruciating misery from before. If you need anything boot-fitting related- dont waste your time or money going anywhere else.

Really knowledgeable sales staff, asked me about my skiing and guided me into a great pair of boots. Also let me demo the potential skiis to make sure I got the perfect set.

I have been buying skis and bindings from Kevin for years and have been a very happy customer. Love my Volkls and DPSs. Stu has years of professional experience and does solid work on my equipment. When I need new gear, Ill be back in the store!

Wife brought in her Dynafit liners for a thermo mold. Senior tech guy (not the DR) instructed junior novice tech guy how to fit liner while he was on the phone. Junior tech guy proceeded to melt base off the liner which he then remedied by hot gluing the liner back together. The toe of the liner was folded over when he was done. The liner caused her pain just to stand in, yet they sent her out the door after taking her $50, with an offer to come back if it doesnt work out!!! Wow, if a business is marketing as a professional boot fitter, seems they would want to maintain their credibility and offer her new liners on the spot after they destroyed hers. She returned and after she described her need to buy new liners they were quick to offer a full refund. I think they should of offered to buy her new liners! I will never bring or recommend any business here further, which is sad because the DR is awesome. Oh yeah, they also skewed a binding mount, meaning the bindings werent mounted true and straight. I learned this later from a different shop after I got new bindings mounted.

Great boot fitting advice and prompt service at fair prices

I looked online this morning for the hours at Ph.D Skis and noticed the Yelp review. After reading them I was compelled to submit my own.I have been a regular customer for 5 years - since I moved to Bozeman. I have bought skis and other gear for nearly every member of my family. While I occasionally purchase gear at some of the chain stores I absolutely consider Ph.D skis to have the most knowledgeable owner/staff group in town. I also had a warranty situation a year or so ago and was blown away by how well it was handled. Kevin put my daughter in a new set of skis at a great price - so she could stay on the snow while her other skis were sent away. These were skis that, at the time, were all the rage and, given that it was in season, he could have sold them for more. The ski manufacturer sent a new replacement for the warrantied skis and Kevin worked out a very fair trade for high end boots and other gear. This was way above and beyond.As with any big purchase readers of this review should do their own due diligence. In the end i think you will be more than pleased with Ph. D Skis!

PhD Skis has an excellent inventory of higher end skis and boots which is unfortunate. Under no circumstances will I ever purchase anything from them ever again. After a warrantly situation that was not handled well by Kevin, Stu found it appropriate to send a personal attack to me via facebook. Highly unprofessional on so many levels!

I went in the door and felt I was very mistreated and disrespected as a customer. I do not believe they value their customer and they will not earn my business again. I went in the door with some bindings to be mounted to my skis. I showed up with the Marker Duke AT bindings and the Scarpa Pegasus AT boot. The owner quickly came out from the back and told the kid working the front that the boot will not work with that binding. I was confused and stated that I had talked about the boot and bindings in depth with the REI ski salesman and he told me they would work fine. At this point he moved back into the back room and yelled that if I was okay with blowing out a knee and I signed the paperwork they would do it for me(very disrespectful). At that point I was very frustrated as there were customers in the building and I felt very disrespected so I left and called REI and Chalet sports to get a second and third opinion because I did not want my knee blown out. Both companies were much friendlier and said they have never heard of anything like he had claimed and that those bindings are made for AT boots. I did further research and everything I find says they are compatible.GO TO REI or Chalet Sports PERIOD, their cheaper and better customer service. I want upset at the man for telling me something that could have potentially saved me from hurting myself(even though he was incorrect) but more of the way he did it.
