I am not a fan of overstated ice cream - as in, very creamy, very sweet, or very rich - and New City is all of those things, hence my review. It’s in a great spot, and the staff are really nice, but it is a bit heavy. Also every flavor with salt in it (that I have tried) have been on the too salty end, imo. The picture is of mint chocolate chip, cookies & cream, and regular chocolate chip I believe. It is nice that they don’t use coloring - and they don’t skimp on the chocolate chips, which are really tasty.
Perfect level of creaminess, sweetness, and texture - everything you could ever ask for in an ice-cream. Recently saw a huge crowd in front of this place and dropped by after dinner nearby. I got the quart with vanilla bourbon, cookie dough, and baklava. I was hoping to try out more flavors, but it was unfortunate that they limit to 3 flavors for quart and to 2 flavors for everything under. Nevertheless, the ice-cream turned out to be a huge hit- all the flavors were fantastic. Vanilla bourbon gave a slight hint of bourbon at the end which was perfectly complemented by its creamy sweetness. Cookie dough had nice chunks of chocolate chips and it went really well with the creamy vanilla bourbon. Baklava had an addictive flavor - pastry and nutty bits combined with a bit of honey created an addictive flavor. Will return to try their other seasonal flavor offerings.
WOW WOW WOW!!! Came here on the insistence of a friend who said this is the best ice cream ever. Its in the top 5 Ive ever had for sure. I got a scoop of the vanilla bourbon, which apparently is a seasonal flavor. Incredible flavor! A little soft but thats what happens when theres some alcohol in it. The flavor is rich and deep. The vanilla flavor is bold and the bourbon shines but doesnt overwhelm the vanilla. Absolutely in love.
Fun! This place is expensive but the portion sizes are good. Flavors are hit or miss: some are incredible, some not so much. The ice cream itself is quite tasty with plenty of unique and seasonal flavors. Allergy accommodation is better during the day, sometimes an issue at night when supplies are running low.
Delicious ice cream with generous portions. They also have many non dairy vegan options. Really liked the salted caramel and oreo.
What a beautiful ice cream shop! I was fascinated by their effort on the decor and overall vibe. I had come to know that their mint chip is unique in the sense of taste so that made me go for it. Did not regret. Real mint tastes so much better than just flavoring, but be warned, it is a strong taste. Will be back to try out more flavors.
Microcreamery is a fun local joint with some cool ice cream flavours that rotate frequently. That said the ice cream itself can be a little grainy and holy smokes it is pricy. $7 for two flavors? $9 for a shake? The portions arent even generous. If youre craving some cream you might also consider checking out BerryLine or Lizzys (Harvard Sq), two other local joints. All said said, the place is cute and has a fun vibe. Id definitely be a regular if the prices were a little more reasonable
Best cookies and cream I ever had in my life. I love this place. Very rich and creamy. Great serving portions. Love this place.
Ice cream is really good, with some unusual flavors like baklava (A+++) and vanilla bourbon as well as the standby chocolate, vanilla, strawberry. Also has good coffee and lattes. Outside tables and places to sit. Always a long line on summer evenings but it moves quickly.
I didnt eat @ creamery but sat in the Jill Rhone brown park eating delicious Mary Cheung vegetarian delight with tofu. At this time they are only open for takeout. To me Mary cheung never disappoints. The creamery does however make the best chocolate chip ice cream with huge rock-like chunks of chocolate. So yummy!!
So good! Unique flavors always rotating. I had the Singing the Blues, blueberry buttermilk, cinnamon ice cream, would get it again!
Ice cream was okay. Mint chip flavor was too subtle. Chocolate chip had shaved chocolate versus chips which made the texture weird. It was expensive.
Ive tried this place twice, and the ice cream is really delicious, specifically the Baklava ice cream. The male staff, however, seems to be extremely overwhelmed with the workload. The waiting time is very long, not due to the amount of people in line, but rather because of the speed of the staff. Moreover, Ive experienced difficulties with the bill both times. This is unfortunate, because the ice cream is really good and deserves a 5-star rating
I was craving ice cream at around 10pm and I was happy I found this shop. We had the strawberry cheesecake and the cookie and cream ice creams, they both were very delicious, sadly they were sold out on couple of things, Like cones and some other stuff. so you might want to consider going there earlier. The girls working there are really nice and quick on their feet, you will get your order and check out before you know it. There were a lot of people eating ice cream out of the shop, it was surprising for me. There were lots of police cars too and officers, made me feel safe and walk with confidence at that late of hour lol
Make your own curd flavored sundae. Loved the concept, its delicious!
Tried them for the first and last time. Unlike most reviews, this place is mediocre at best. The waffle cone was inedible, flavors we got (blackberry and salted cookies and cream) were nothing special.Maybe Central Square has no other good options, suggest walking ~15 mins to Christinas at Inman Square, which is outstanding ice cream!!
Vanilla Bourbon Ice Cream super yummy!!
The ice cream has really great flavor. I even got coffee, which is a fairly common flavor, and it was closer to the actual taste of coffee than most ice cream Ive had. 10/10 would recommend
Delicious ice cream. I got a scoop of strawberry cheesecake and a scoop of cookies and cream. No Oreo toppings so I was sad. Also no iced coffees. And they were sold out of lemonade but it was only 4pm. The ice cream made up for it all though.
Its a good experience. I took chocolate flavored ice cream. It was tasty
One of the best ice cream places in Cambridge. I had the mexican chocolate scoop and it was really diiferent and nice. Chocolate with a slight spicy aftertaste of cinnamon (?).
Delicious fresh home made ice cream. Worth the visit. Nice tables outside to relax
Please, please don’t sell people the bottom/ old batch of the ice cream. It does not taste the same. My family, and I have been obsessed with your cake batter ice cream for as long as you’ve been open in central square. We were your first customers, when you came outside to give us samples. We’ve never had any issue until yesterday after buying a quart. As the tub of ice cream was nearly finished, the ice cream tasted old, and slimy (for lack of a better word) and there were too many sprinkles compacted together since they sink to the bottom of the batch. We love what we usually taste there, and we love the awesome customer service so we will continue to buy, and tip!Thank you,Sheila
My new favorite spotOpen lateBaklava Ice cream is 👌👌Excellent friendly service too
Awesome creamery! They use nitrogen to make their ice cream. Which is always a cool process. The fiancé and I came here after we ran a few errands in Cambridge. We both got a 2 scoop sundae (it was a lot). On top of the great ice cream flavors was the toppings. You know when you really want a cone, but you want a couple scoops and you don’t want it to get messy. They offer waffle cone pieces! They are amazing! That’s just the tip of the iceberg, you have to come and see the selection of enhancements that are available! Also, their ice cream flavors change quite a bit so, I advise you to visit regularly so you don’t miss out.
Cookie dough milkshake with brownie pieces is absolutely amazing. Love this place.
Always delicious! Friendly staff, great ice cream, and delicious toppings.
Hands down the best handling of allergies I’ve personally seen at any ice cream shop in the Boston metro. And great ice cream, too. Thank you!
This place makes me happy to have moved to Boston. The staff are super friendly, and theyre always coming up with creative, delicious flavors (not to mention top-notch waffle cones). I was hesitant about the key lime pie, but it was incredible!
Didnt take a photo of my cone but OMG the waffle cone is the best one Ive ever tried in my life!! The ice cream is also nice. I got two kiddie scoop and its a lot. Lemon poppyseed is highly recommended!! Very refreshing and not too sweet, a very good option for ppl who dont like heavy taste. The cone is soooo good that I dont even care how much calories lol.
Pretty solid. Ice cream is a bit liquid, but very flavorful in a good way. Great waffle cones
It cracks me up that I’ve been here on two separate occasions where someone I was with commented that the workers look like they hate working here. Hey man, I’ve been there before so I won’t hold it against them. Their ice cream is awesome. Plus there’s plenty of seating in the public area outside the shop.
The baklava ice cream was literally perfect. The vegan chocolate avocado was so creamy, we couldn’t believe it wasn’t real ice cream. The prices are a bit high, but that won’t stop us from returning. Just hope they can hire some more folks - the poor girl working alone on a busy Friday night was HUSTLING but still managed to remain professional and friendly.
New City is definitely some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had! Both the classic and the more unique flavors are awesome! I’m definitely a huge fan of their cookie dough. An awesome place to grab dessert or just a midday snack in Central Square! I recommend following them on Instagram for information on current/new flavors, events and other fun stuff!
Good ice cream and nice staff! :-)
This place is really cool and doing some delicious, really inventive flavors like blueberry and buttermilk and vanilla sweet corn in addition to some classics. They haven’t nailed the texture for every flavor, and some ideas I wanted to love just were a little too icy. But the flavors that are good are great.
Cute spot, small section of vegan ice cream. The vanilla flavor was ok... The waffle cone was delicious!
Although its worth driving to the Hudson location, glad they opened up closer to the city! Tasty! Friendly staff!
Happy mouth! Asked the staff for recommendations, and got the salted Caramel topped with their house made Golden Nuggets (sweet crunch somewhere between a corn flake and rice crispy). Great balance of sweet and salty, wonderful rich, creamy mouthfeel. Spectacular. The space is nice and inviting too. I stopped in on a Monday afternoon so it was empty when I came in. Cute paintings, fun music, definitely a recommended experience
Love the ice cream and the service! Salted cookies and cream is favorite
Best key lime ice cream I ever had..
Seriously - the best ice cream in Boston. The flavors are creative and executed with perfection, the texture silky and luxuriant, and the extras just as delicious. Definitely worth stopping by and I will be coming back!! Try the oatmeal raisin cookie dough if they have it!
Id be surprised if this is NOT the best ice cream youve ever tasted in your life. get the mint chip if you like mint (best flavor imo), get the coffee if you like coffee, get the cookies and cream if you like cookies, its really that simple. you cant go wrong with any flavor here
1st time to go and try the many favorite flavors🍦🍨 ice cream and shakes 😋 not to compare with other brand ice cream shops 😉 just had a name and favorite of it own location and customers 😊!
Baklava ice cream here is great
Try the mint chips! Its real mint, tasteful and refreshing
Best ice cream I’ve come across in Boston. Can get very busy at night with lines out the door.
Really good ice cream. Generous portions.
Too high on sugar for my taste, and the flavors (and I have tried 3 of them) are either not coming through or are a bit off.
My wife had the Smores on a waffle cone which she loved. I had the Affogato with baklava ice cream which was awesome. Highly recommended.
And when i thought they couldnt make ice cream any better....Baklava ice cream
Busy place but delicious and unique ice creams
The store-made waffle cones were amazing!
The baklava ice cream was amazing!
This place is just awesome. John and his staff treated us great. This place will become a must stop for us when we visit Cambridge.
Really loved the taste. Just feel like its a bit too pricey
Will recommend Peach flavor, was amazing
This is the best ice cream I ever had! Cookie dough doesnt have small balls of dough - they have huge chunks!! 😋🤗
Really delicious ice cream but the employees were a bit rude
We came all the way from Florida and the kids were dying to try this place. When we got there, they were closed for their employee Holiday party but they came out and offered to serve me and my kids anyways. They were abundantly kind and not to mention the ice cream was to die foe.
Last year my body stopped digesting dairy and I was sad to not be able to enjoy ice cream, especially sad to not have New City. After some online searching I realized dairy-free ice cream was a thing, and tried it from a few different shops... Safe to say New City has both the best regular AND the best vegan ice cream around! I highly recommend the vegan chocolate avocado, vegan coffee oreo, and vegan cookies and cream.
Fun flavors but kinda expensive. We got two kiddie scoops (Baklava + Carrot Cake) which was over $8 with tip.The ice cream was not bad, but nothing memorable. I prefer melty ice cream and this one took forever to become soft. Its great if you like rock-hard scoops but if you like softer ice cream, youll need a lot of patience for this one.
I didn’t realize that I cared about ice cream quality, but New City’s ice cream is noticeably better than even other fancy ice cream shops. Part of it is the texture, which is extra-smooth, but it’s also the flavors. The mint chip tastes like a mouthful of mint leaves and chocolate chips, which, in retrospect, is not what other mint chocolate chip ice creams taste like. Also, the cashiers are friendly to children.
Great ice cream
This is a great ice cream shop. Really original flavors and theyre made absolutely delicious. The mint chip tastes like real mint leaves. They have great allergy policies too.
My Fiance and I got a couple scoops of Vanilla, Cookie Dough And Vanilla Bourbon Ice cream from New City Microcreamery and loved it. I had the Manager John laughing near fainting with my Smart Mask that read Im A Boss and I Kidnapped Him... What a fun first time interaction. 🤗🥰March 4, 2021 Update...I want to give this place 10 Stars...The Baklava Ice Cream is my new all time favorite.a perfect blend of nuts, flaky goodness, spice and honey sweetness. We even took some home for later. Later came quickly, hahaha. We Love this Ice Cream Microcreamery and highly recommend a weekly visit there at a bare minimum.❤❤❤❤ I also live how my honey stares at me eating ice cream..as if we are on many of first dates....🤗 Oh and a big shot out to Jacob who served up our ice cream last night........ You are the bombdiggity...... Oh and John the Chocolate Bar Melted Concoxtion was DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEElicious..... See you over the weekend....lol
Really great salted cookies and cream Ice cream 🍦
Ice cream is quality! Delicious! Place is clean and covid restrictions are clear and consistent. You should go. Its worth it
Cool unique flavors (I had sweet corn vanilla and it was great!) and all the standard options (toppings, floats etc) makes this place a great ice cream place!
Best ice cream in Boston!!!
I love the smores flavor!
Delicious and creative flavors!! I can never pick just one haha, and I love that they let you get 2 kiddie scoops to try 2 flavors without getting too much ice cream!
Had a baklava ice cream and it was ❤️❤️
This is a trendy little ice cream place in central square. The ice cream was creamy and they had some unique flavors. There was indoor seating which was perfect for enjoying our ice cream on a chilly day. My sister ordered a peanut butter flavor and loved it. I got the mint chip. As a note: because they use real mint leaves and not artificial flavors it is very different from your standard mint chip ice cream experiences. It was more floral/fresh, but I still found it enjoyable and those chocolate chips were perfection!
It was ok.
A little overpriced but worth it
The ice cream is good and some flavors are interesting, but to me the quality doesnt compare to Christinas or Toscis. On the two occasions where I ordered pints, they were underfilled, which is pretty lame at this price point.
This little ice cream shop was a huge hit with my family. Their flavors are fantastic. A warning about the mint chip, though, they use real mint, so it was advised that kids taste it before they buy it. My son loved it though! The staff is wicked nice and lets you taste test any of their flavors, and they have some pretty amazing ones. I guess they have dairy-free options as well. I definitely intend to go back when I have the rest of the family with me, or maybe on our next sisters night in Central. Its definitely worth going out of my way on my next trip in the city for the ice cream. Also a bonus, when the dancers for the ATS Flash Mob Worldwide were rained out of our Central Square location, they allowed us to dance inside, putting on our music and everything. The staff was so sweet to let us do that. The space was small for our purposes, but they were incredibly accommodating under the rainy circumstances. The staff there proved to be all around amazing, which makes it so much more worth supporting the company.
Good atmosphere 👌!!
Delicious, unique small-batch flavors. I only wish they had a better lactose-free selection, as their ~4 options are usually lacking. I suggest Honeycomb Creamery in Cambridge if you want the same quality but with a good lactose-free selection as well.
Interesting flavors, friendly staff.
