Ive bought several guns from Sports Outfitters and its always been a good experience. The owner definitely knows his stuff! I also use the pistol range frequently, it has good air circulation and is well lit. Good place.
Inconsistent customer service and a very creepy vibe. I was alone in the store for about fifteen minutes wondering when the owner would appear, the place is (sensibly) covered with cameras but instead of coming out to greet and help me he admitted he was just watching me from the back room. Ammo is a bit over-priced and I once bought a used scope from there, trusting the owner to be fair on the price, only to learn he charged me over MSRP for a new one. Actual cost for guns seems fair though and relatively competitive for the area. Caveat emptor.
Aaron was more than helpful! The store was very clean and the selection was great. He worked with me and got me exactly what I was looking for. Highly recommend.
Went there to use the range. Was told I was unable to use the Sabot slugs I had, despite every other range allowing them. Decided to shoot my other guns, range prices are high in comparison. The walls in the range were covered in water damage, half the target clips didnt hold the targets, and at least one lane didnt even work. The floor was covered in brass, way more than it should of they even cleaned it up daily. Would not suggest going there for the range, didnt stick around long enough to look at prices or inventory.
Called about a benelli barrel I needed for Christmas gift. Owner told me the price listed was firm. The next day the listing was increased by $100 before I could buy it. Grinch stole Christmas I’d give him a negative star if possible.
I needed to zero a new firearm and the indoor range provided all that I needed to complete this work. I also needed a modification to a scope mount in order to properly zero the firearm, and I did not have the part to do this, so it was very helpful to have the staff available to do this modification for me. The cost for using the range was fine ($20/hr) and the labor for the modification was reasonable. The 25-yard range was fairly basic, but I did appreciate that your targets are attached to a motor driven pulley system so you can stay safely behind the shooting line. If using the range, remember to bring safety glasses and ear protection (they can be rented if you forget), and in colder weather bring an extra layer as the range temperature is heated, but not to a typical indoor temperature.
Price of ammo is a little high but its the only place u can buy in bulk other places only allowed 3 boxes or less at a time
Great selection and great owner. Had a nice visit and walked out with a beauty of a 1903A3 to throw some lead. Shop was well stocked with both rifles and pistols. Well be back and Id encourage others looking to add to their collection or just getting started to stop in and learn something when you buy.
Very happy with the service and item(s) purchased. Saw an extremely good deal on metal ammo boxes, contacted the company for location and hours. I arrived early knowing the limited stock wouldnt last very long. Boxes were as advertised and exactly what I expected. To be fair: had no intention of buying up every box on the shelf, leaving nothing for other people, I bought a few for my own and buddys use (not for resale). Sometimes right place at the right time is just luck... that and being early never hurts.
Great place to look at nostalgia, and hear some amazing stories. Full of culture and all things AMERICA. Support veterans and local businesses with one stop. LOVE the indoor handgun range. Great place to get your firearms serviced as well. Will be back.
Owner knows his firearms. He has a lot of experience and is easy to talk to. The range has good ventilation, good lighting. Just a good place to set up your gun or target practice. Has a very good assortment of firearms.
The owner was very knowledgeable, kind, and helpful while I was there and he really seemed like he wanted to help in any way he could. Great quality of products as well. Overall very happy! Great business!
I asked the owner a question about one of his Pistols, He answered me with Are you going to buy it? i replied not sure yet to which he said You cant afford this, Get out of my shop I have had more bad experiences with this shops owner than i can count on both hands. He would be better off hiring help and sitting his old grumpy ass at home and enjoy being grumpy from home as a retiree, His business would probably do better also! He has personally talked me out of several purchases. Selection and set up would allow this to be a great gun store for Cedar Rapids, The owner is the nail in this shops coffin though.
Love this place. Great selection of guns. The shooting range is nice and Arlan is very helpful as well. Had a great experience there, thanks Arlan.
Purchased a Browning shotgun. They were easy to deal with and the shotgun was exactly as promised. Shipped out right away. Would easily do business with them again.
Great staff and quick service. The range is affordable and I was the only person down there so Its easy to say, I had a blast.
I purchased a firearm from Aaron. The service was prompt and professional. The transfer to another FFL was also handled well. I got a great piece at a fair price and will definatly stop in the next time I am out that way.
First gun store Ive ever been to that said No loaded guns. Even gander mountain has a sign that says only firearms being brought in for smithing or trades need to be unloaded.Worthless selection of firearms, none of which are priced but looking at the prices of everything else in the store probably all overpriced. Id sooner go to the supremely understocked gander for ammo.Owner or someone came out for about 4 seconds, didnt acknowledge us at all.Go to Cedar Valley Outfitters, even the extra drive is worth it compared to this shite.
This was my first visit to Sports Outfitters and the person that I spoke with was very helpful in getting me setup to use the indoor range with targets and ammo. The range was very nice with the automatic target retrieval system and he said that he is improving each station one at a time.
Good selection of firearms but had a very bad experience with the older gentlemen that worked there, I was younger at the time and did not have a carry/buy permit but was interested in the rifles and was willing to buy and age 20 at the time he persisted that I go get a permit and when I asked him why all he did was repeat him self. As a avid gun owner and enthusiast I found it very rude to treat me like crap just because of my age so needless to say not planning on going back. But hey if your older then I am sure you may get some respect for the guy...
Worse service ever. Told him we would take 25 ammo cans and he did not pull product off shelf. Didnt have correct amount when we arrived after 2 hour drive. Product was not as represented in photo. Had terrible attitude, did not apologize, and was truly disrespectful to us.
Very informative, checked for my permit before opening the case. Older gentleman was extreme helpful. I highly recommend.
Ive had the same experience others have stated regarding the range costs being misleading. Was lead to believe by phone and the website that the RIFLE RANGE was $20/hr which seems to be the normal going rate for most indoor ranges in the area, but I arrived with all the equipment only to be told the RIFLE RANGE is $50/hr. I begrudgingly obliged and used the range to zero my new scope. The rifle range is nothing more than a very large tube underground in the basement. Its just as cold down there as it is outside, the only difference being there is no wind. Its even worth $20/hr. Dont go for the range.I cant speak to the gun store aspect as Ive never bought or even browsed the store.
Lazy owner, absurd prices, awful selection.
Ammo is way overpriced. Charges over double what you could get most other places.
Had them order a gun for me and they were very help for nice would definitely go back
Had a great time, range was clean, owner was great and engaging. Fair pricing.
Drove from dubuque to cedar rapids to use the 100yd indoor range. Was there about 15 minutes early. He opened the doors a little after 10 a.m. I notice the building was about 60 yds long, kept wondering if there was even a 100 yd range. Meanwhile i called him the day before asked for prices for the 100 yard range, he replied $20 per hr seemed a little high but it was better than freezing. Double checked the website $20 per hr also. So i go inside tell him i wanna use the range, He says its gonna be $50 per hr!!!!! I said WHAT! U told me $20 on the phone yesterday and your website even says $20 Per Hr. Needless to say I left and wasnt paying $50 Bucks a hr, So I drove to the Dyersville Sportsman Club a little outta the way back to Dubuqe and sighted my gun in on their 200 yard rifle range that only cost $25 a yr!!! I even looked at the reviews and went anyway. Live and learn im only out the $20 in Gas, This chump definately wasnt getting 50 or 100 For a hr or 2 of range time!!! 1-15-16
Terrible customer service. Called the phone number to reach a younger man, hello? was how he represented and welcomed me to his company. I asked if they carried the Beretta nano in stock and the guy said hell no we are six months out with little chance of you getting hands on one. I asked how much he priced them at. he said he didnt know. I became upset and told the guy if he had any decency he would at least be able to tell me what they have currently been pricing them at and he said 300 you motherFvker and then hung up on me! not only did he cuss at me, he told me an incorrect price! the pistol in question is 450msrp these days with the Gander Mountain down the street pricing them at 399! Terrible service! Wow.
Experience was HORRIBLE! They put an ad in the CR Gazetm te weekly saying they will beat all deals...including online deals. So I went in today and showed them an ad for a Kimber Custom and they said oh we wont honor that, the price is too low??? I said that your ad says you beat all deals, they even have a sign in the store too! Needless to say I left without buying anything. I will be contacting BBB and county attorney about fraud.
Worse ever had 1800 cash looking to buy a few new toys asked if I was buying said I didnt know yet said get out your can afford anything here. I was took back showed him then cash and walked out. Place is a range down joke take your money else where
Aaron is very friendly and helpful
Owner was rude and basically told me to get out if I was not buying anything that day. Never get my money.....
This place has been in cedar rapids for years however that does not excuse the owner(old man) from being rude and condescending, he is very knowledgeable but acts like its too much work to help customers, go to cedar valley outfitters in marion if u want to be treated with respect.
Overpriced and rude.
Good experience
Clean, well ventilated range
Friendly staff
I dont know it
