Nice local place for a morning cup of joe or tea. Very laid back atmosphere; friendly, relaxing and busy, busy, busy; which is great to see post-pandemic shutdown.Pacific Coast Highway has hundred of gems like “The Pannikin” along its route. Take time to find them and post them. Looking forward to returning soon for a refill and chatting with the locals.
Great place to stop while on a bike ride. I love the character of the building and that its being preserved. They have a lot of seating (inside and outside). Coffee and treats are really good. Their cold brew is the best!!! Its so delicious!!! They have gluten free baked goods that are really good! And, lots of regular baked goods that look amazing!
OMG ! Im so jealous of the locals!! Pastries awesome, coffee awesome, old building with character .... sweeeeeeet! Well on second thought its probably good theyre not near or I would definitely have to exercise twice as hard ;)
I order the teas, and hot chocolates which are all excellent! Staff is wonderful, friendly, efficient! Excellent service! Love the outdoor seating, lovely atmosphere! :) Thank You!
So yummy! And the place has such a personality.Parking is difficult and long lines to order during busy hours. Desserts are amazing and the coffee too. Love it!
We did not order coffee, but we did get an assortment of sweet goodies. Absolutely Loved the decadent Magic Bar! Also the Blueberry Scone and Raspberry Puff Pastry were very good. The brownie was a Dry disappointment. Thats why Im only giving 4 stars.Found this wonderful coffee/pastry spot on our morning walk near our hotel. We will return tomorrow morning to try the Quiche, Ghirardelli hot chocolate, house coffee and more pastries to carry back home. See if that 4⭐ can become a 5⭐ rating 😉
More than 1 person told us how great this place was and they were right!!
I had the worst iced latte I’ve ever had here at Pannikin on Monday. It was a large cup full of what seemed to be half n half with a single shot of espresso—I love milk and couldn’t finish it. I ordered a croissant. The croissant was stale and rubbery. No one was wearing masks and the staff just did not look like the coffee drinking type which is probably why the drinks they made were not right. This used to be one of my favorite places to go. I wanted the jitters and I was sleepy afterwards. What happened??! 2 stars because I’m going to give you one more chance to be the place I love.
Nice place! Good prices too. No WiFi. They seem to have great coffee. They have a large tea selection but with this I have a problem: why would you offer 50 teas and not know how to brew them? They just dump an unnecessarily huge tea bag in a small cup of boiling-hot water. That may work for pure black teas and oolong (if you know to remove the tea bag soon after) but all the others will be burnt and bitter. Its a complete waste of good tea.
Not sure if the girl was just having a bad day, but that was the WORST customer service I’ve ever encountered. After trying to order my drink a couple times, & the girl talking down to me & not friendly at all, I felt so uncomfortable that I ended up not ordering at all and went down the street to Lofty coffee… Don’t pay for bad service when there’s better service a block away
Their Rhubarb pie is very good as is their Apple pie. I also buy their Blue Lady loose tea which makes an excellent iced tea
The dinning environment was cute, especially their patio. However the food is a bit nasty. I bought a piece of chocolate cake. Its basically eating a giant chocolate flavored candy. It was too sweet... The little store was cute but a bit overpriced.
Attentive staff, great indoor and outdoor seating and a beautiful store with unique items nestled inside. Offering gluten-free muffins, dairy-free and low-sugar coffee drinks, Pannikin caters to the discerning consumer. The bright yellow exterior is so welcoming and the location couldnt be better situated. A welcoming and warm place to conversate, work on the computer, watch the birds clean up leftover crumbs from a previous outdoor customer or simply Be; and its adjacent to the 101 in Encinitas. Perfect!
I have lived in the area for 30 years, drove by pannikin and have dreamed of to stopping by, having a cup of coffee and muffin, sit and enjoy the history of the building. Today my dreams did not come true as I visited this coffee shop for the first time. The service was unfriendly, the muffin and pastry was old and dry. Would not recommend this place to anyone I know. A real dream smasher.😡
Not a great fan of the coffee. I asked for vanilla but should have been more clear. So sweet i couldnt drink it. Love the pastries. We come every time we are in the area for a camping trip
We loved our experience at Pannikin. The food was great and coffee was delicious. The gift shop was super cute too. The staff was also very nice.
Thank you so Much for making my Quarantine Birthday Special! ☺The chocolate pie was SO GOOD😋👍 every time I visit its wonderful and me being a NO COFFEE person I LOVE the coffee here!☺plus the Sweets are amazing you wont be disappointed. If you havent stopped by do so Its a small mom/pop shop ran by lovely Ladies and some Gentlemen they would love the support.
Was thrilled about reviews- long line!!! Food was not great- good coffee bar. Purchased gifts in shopping section which were nice. If you can get away from the noise of the road, sitting outside on the top deck is nice!
The coffee and baked goods are amazing. I used to live nearby and would go all the time. Now this is a definite stop when Im in Encinitas. Dont forget a bag of coffee to take home.
The worker cl e are my table when I got up to use the rest room.. but the bagels were good and coffee too.
Staff is so friendly and helpful. Coffee was piping hot and delicious. Baked goods looked amazing.
Great place to get a cup of coffee and a tasty pastry (there are so many delicious options!) in a really neat old train station building. Enjoyed a morning studying at one of the many tables available when I was in town for a weekend. Liked the coffee so much I bought some of their Blue Sky roast to take home (they roast their own beans downstairs!). This will be my new place to get a bite and drink to eat in the morning when I visit.
What a cute little place. Everything tasted great, and the service was good. The bear claws are the best! 10/10 would recommend
The second star is solely for the beautiful building. The breakfast was mediocre at best. Greek eggs were underwhelming and flavorless. Coffee was decent. With a plethora of options in the area, we will not be returning soon.
Always been great coffee and some company if you desire. Met people there, have had business transactions there, and family. They also have food, for breakfast and lunch or a snack.
This place is a treasured icon in Leucadia. Its a big ol house, with beautiful decor and lots of indoor outdoor seating. Has such a great beachy vibe, sophisticated yet casual. Great food and beverages. Wonderful place to lose yourself for a couple hours
We had the Mexican mocha and açaí bowl. Both were great! We thought the shop had a great aesthetic and kind people!
A great place for coffee and pastry. The building that they are in is very nice it looks like an old house. Their ride along the coast. It makes a great stop over in the morning for coffee and something light to eat and the prices are pretty good too.
Great place for good coffee, and the best chocolate croissant.
As a person in the service industry, I have a tendency to understand when stress interferes with the job. Sadly, as my hubby shared how he loves this place; the servers behind the counter were a total FLAT LINE... Suddenly, as we felt uncomfortable we started looking around. Table damage, wall damage, the decor was filthy. Then I noticed the wear and tear on the pastry display case. Was it cool enough to keep the pies at a safe temperature? I walked away. Thought Ill drink my bottle water we have in the car. Hubby got an iced coffee... He honestly felt he needed to apologize for the hour drive to get there. I told him, he was a total sweetheart, that the ride with him makes everything worth it.
This Cafe used to be the train station so it is very attractive with a large seating area. Pannikin gets 2 stars for that. The coffee was average and very pricey. One of their bus people(middle aged guy bussing tables so that tells you something already) was getting in my personal space and I told him to maintain a safe distance(at least 6 feet) as he did not look healthy at all. I asked him nicely and he responded by insulting me and making rude comments when he could have been professional. When I tried to complain to the manager, the other staff person got in my personal space and claimed there was no manager. This was the worst service I have encountered in Encinitas.
Used to love this place, but the service has really changed. Too much attitude.Extra charge for oat milk??!! Seriously?
Choice combo of good food and great espresso
Typical coffee shop attitude which communicates...lm not here for you infact you should be satisfied that I even got out of bed today. We ordered a latte which tasted more like milk than coffee and a cappuccino which was half milk foam then some coffee. The scrambled eggs were precooked and like rubber. Dont waist your money here...
Good chai tea but it took 20-40 minutes just for us to get our coffee, 3 drinks. they had other people’s coffee out that was far behind us. we aren’t locals that live there but please help the customers that are there first not just your local customers.
This is a fantastic place to stop for a bicycle tourist. They dont have Wi-Fi, however they do have good water. Lots of coffee and tea choices. And some good backed goods. One of their drinks is pretty interesting. It is called the Jimi Hendrix. Its like a five shot expresso. Super crazy. I was too afraid to try it though so I went with a drip coffee instead which was more mellow and nice.
Well what can I say LA and Orange County leave their respective locals to aggregate at this boring so called trendy coffee stop...Locals avoid this living TV commercial because it is SO cliche!
Pannikin cafe in Encinitas is a great place to get your cup of Jo or a delirious healthy meal. Pannikin is actually one of the oldest coffee houses in San Diego county, starting with their first branch in La Jolla. The Encinitas branch is very different, it is huge with a nice outside seating area. Store with lots of goodies and nice coffee shop/ cafe. #letsguide
Iconic Leucadia coffee shop, for good reason. Friendly service, beautiful location (I love sitting outside), and a really complete menu including baked items!
The VERY BEST COFFEE. TRY THE LEMON BARS. The best I have had.
Such a lovely place ... coffee was very good and the pastries absolutely delicious !🤗
I visited the Pannikin Leucadia recently for the first time since COVID19 and was upset to see the lack of safety measures. Yes, the staff wear masks and the clientele [mostly do] was while inside, but there were no other apparent safety measures. I spoke with a staff member who told me that there was no hazard pay being offered, nor did they know of paid 2-weeks off if an employee tested positive, nor was healthcare extended for PT employees in any way (full or partial coverage). I also did not see any hand sanitizer available. It was concerning to me that the employee mentioned that it would be difficult to implement safety measures given the store layout. Having only my customer experience to go off of, I could imagine that your management could consider not having one employee fully service each customer, thus limiting the people touching the same items (coffee machines, tongs for pastries, cash register, etc) as well as a sign/person regulating the customers coming in so that only people actively ordering are inside. I have also seen that other businesses have restricted access to outdoor seating by putting signs, caution tape or similar over benches/chairs in order to maintain social distance on the patio - this could work for your fixed layout. As mentioned above, instituting mandatory hand sanitization and/or temperature checks when entering is another safety option. I am confident that you, your team, or your fellow business owners have other solutions you could implement, as well.I am urging you as a lover of your staff and food/bev to please consider the safety of your workers and their livelihoods while they are actively put in danger. And before you say that they can choose not to work, really think about that, because most people cannot go without a paycheck in SoCal and especially now with even less govt support.Until I know that Pannikin has taken the employee well-being further into account, I will sadly, but resolutely, not be returning for the best coffee cakearound.
Salad was good, curry chicken sandwich was just ok.
Always fresh roasted coffee... and great scones too.
When youre coming south on PCH, can smell the sea breeze and see a big yellow building by the side of the road, you know youve come to Pannikin. They do a great breakfast sandwich and theres no better place to welcome the morning after a few hours surfing or during a bike ride up from Carlsbad. Theyve been here since forever and I can see why. Strong Recommend!
Passed this place many times while riding through the area. I know it’s a place that cyclist like to stop. Go by and there are never any less than 10 bikes on a given weekend morning and usually many more. Don’t get too scared about the long lines. Yes they’re long but they’re efficient and move people through fairly quick. It’s a place to caffeinate and carbo load. Just take a look at the size of the pastries!
Great vibe. Coffee was awesome and staff was friendly.
Delicious Pecan Bars, Magic Bars, and Jimi Hendrix chocolate coffee drink!!
Excellent spot for just a coffee or coffee and breakfast. We also noticed (didnt try) the variety of desserts they offered. The ice latte was excellent and the two scones we had were some of the best we have tried. Highly recommend a visit. Overall one of the best spots we have tried in the area. The girls servicing us could have been a little friendlier but they were extremely busy.
Blonde barista with the long hair was unprofessional and rude. Barley took our order, wouldn’t verbally communicate when my card malfunctioned and acted like we were imposing. Kept turning her back when I tried to tell her my long order or two items. Rude.
This is the gold standard of coffee. Roasted it, brew it, serve it, drink it on site in a beautiful historical building..first time there but I will be a regular with beans to go!
If you like great coffee and quaint old train stations, this is the place for you. It is so cute! And there is a real chill vibe. We’ve been coming here for years and just love it❣️
The best cinnamon rolls ever...I order on the website and pick up at the retail store side..quick and easy
Hard to imagine a more lively and lovely spot to spend the morning -- chit-chatting away as the world zips north and south, up and down, the infamous PCH--101--!!! Coffee (for us New York City Downtown) was excellent!! And we had a wonderful Leucadia morning post-surfin with the kids and grandparents!!! Loved it!!!
Go visit it u will love it
Off the hook homemade desserts! Coffee is superb and the service is on point! I will DEFINITELY be back!
Beautiful space and great variety of pastries. Coffee is okay, my latte tasted a little watered down.
What a wonderful place and environment. Love the interiors and love how spacious their outdoor seating is. Beautifully maintained.Had Avacado toast and cafe mocha, lovedddddd it. Would recommend their Avacado toast to everyone. One of the best cafe mocha i have had.Feel so happy for places like these, that have a peaceful atmosphere where you can have a relaxed meal or just enjoy a cup of coffee. Forgot to take pictures, will be updating on my next visit.
Anytime I am back through this area I can trust the Greek Eggs and Mocha w/Abuelita will not disappoint.
The best of the best. beautiful vibe and delicious breakfast served till 2. acai bowl is always a good choice!!
LOVE this place! We came almost every morning during our short vacation in Encinitas, great coffee, food, and ambiance.
Pannikin has been in Encinitas/Leucadia forever. When I was a kid the basement was a hobby / toy shop. Has really good coffee and pastries Etc. As well as a gift shop
The gem of the coast. Most aromatic and flavourful coffee, terrific baked goods and sides, warm and inviting atmosphere, top notch staff always, they only hire the best ever. Earns every 🌟!!!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻- Awesome tasting ☕ and espresso drinks with a huge variety to customize how you want including Keto friendly style Matcha and others.- Great atmosphere- Great desserts/treats that I see most people getting (almost have to look away they are that good) lol- They have a really nice breakfast menu with healthy options.-OUTSIDE SEATING with enough space to keep at a safe distance.-Parking sucks!! And the lines get really long, so you kind of have to prepare for that, which also sucks, but they are popular for a reason so it is what it is. 🤷♂️
Historical Building and well taken care off. Great coffee and delicious sandwiches.
Terrible service, it took forever.it’s run by a group of teenagers who haven’t a clue what they are doing. Line was around the building. One girl serving, while there was three others talking behind the counter of the shop. It’s a shame
Unique design and atmosphere. Would definitely go again. However, my chai tea latte was just okay.
The food was great!BEWARE The patrons of this establishment!!!Half are not observing social distancing!Bicyclist are parking and walking around without mask, very close to others. They offer curbside, use it!
A must stop when in the Encinitas area, a quaint, old, yellow Victoria house converted into a restuarant, tea emporium and gift shop. Pies and sweets are terrific. The tea is loved and brought home as gifts to Tucson. The people are wonderful, it is busy with tourists and locals. Inside and outside seating. The parking is horrible, so be prepared to circle for a space or walk further.
My absolutely-favorite place to travel to for a coffee and slice of strawberry-rhubarb pie! The area outside is a great spot to chat or just relax and read a book (Ive been going here for years and it earns 4+⭐, not 5, because the service could be friendlier... Every. Time.)
Great placeGood foodGood service
Very cute and charming cafe with delicious coffee and bakery items. Went for a visit with a dear friend and we were able to enjoy the food, coffee and scenery while we laughed and caught up. Will have fond memories to last.
