Easily the best shop I’ve been to. I started trading at Guitar Works in the 90s. The shop in my town was terrible, so it was well worth the drive. I recently started up with guitar again after a long hiatus. While the decor changed somewhat, it was still the same great shop, and even some of the same people. The staff is friendly and helpful.I never feel like I’m being “sold” on something. My first new guitar there was actually well below the budget, because they listened to what I wanted and made really solid suggestions on things to try.Like I said, it’s easily the best shop I’ve been to.

This is the second time I’ve been into this store, and I’ve gotten a terrible experience. First of all, they follow you around the store making you feel like you are going to steal anything and give you the feeling that cannot touch any of their products either. However, we went ahead and purchased an Orange Speaker Cabinet at this location, but it didn’t work well with the project we had on mind. Therefore, we went back to the store two days later to return the item and they refused to take it back or do any returns. This store treats all their products as a final sale even though the Orange Speaker was brand new. I will not recommend this place at all since they take advantage of their customers and has a very bad business model. Instead, I will recommend #GuitarCenter or #Sweetwater. Those are wonderful stores and haven’t gotten any single issue.

A really good music store for service. They have always been good to me over the years with lessons and getting gear. Kevin has always been there to help me find the right gear and cables I need. You won’t find this good of customer service at the competitors. The prices are usually pretty competitive. If he doesn’t have he can get it pretty quickly for you. Support your local shops.

I brought in a Squier because it wasnt producing sound. I told the owner that Im a novice player, and this was my first electric guitar. He offered to put a new jack in it (the cause of the problem) and do a setup as well. That was all fine and well.He began to check the intonation, and then paused, and gave me a sideways look. He asked, any reason you have this tuned so low? I told him I enjoy playing in an open tuning. He then proceeded to re-tune the guitar to standard tuning, and told me that new players shouldnt be starting on open tunings - he went on a tangent about how you need to learn the basics first. He then sent me on my way with a flyer promoting their music lessons after asking would you like to pay now, or later? The setup was fine, although when I got the guitar back a few days later, it was, of course, tuned to standard. He then handed me yet another flyer for their music lessons, not remembering he already gave me one, and went on another tangent about how important it is to learn the basics.I am a novice guitar player, but I am a multi-instrumentalist capable of producing my own tracks - Ive been making my own music for fifteen years, and open tunings allow me to record the guitar tracks that I want and have an easier time playing them. I understand the owner had good intentions about how new players should learn standard and the importance of fundamentals, but if someone has their guitar in an open tuning, and they mention thats the tuning they enjoy playing in - dont steamroll them and start cranking the pegs to standard and saying your personal preferences dont matter because you dont have any musical authority on this instrument yet.The owner was nice, but had no warmth - youll be able to see a slight glimmer of dollar signs in his pupils if the light hits them just right. Ive worked in sales for years, I know the type. Friendly enough when money is on the table, but no warmth to their actual demeanor. Three stars - they did what I asked and I got what I paid for, but I took two off for the owner stepping on my personal preference.

So happy to have a guitar store on the south side that isnt a chain. They have a wide variety of stuff on hand for any musical need, and they carry good quality items. The first thing that drew me in was that they carry GHS strings, which I normally have had to order online. They carry lots of Jackson and ESP guitars, catering to the metal players in the area. Aside from guitars, they carry lots of basses and related gear, PAs, you name it. The guys are all very knowledgeable and listen to the needs of the customers. I will be back for anything I need for my gigging and recording needs!

I walked into this store not knowing they are a huge G&L dealer. Lucky for me I am huge G&L fan:) I have yet to experience a G&L (Tributes and USA) that wasnt built better and sounded better than any Fender I have tried in store and have personally owned.I sat down to play a few and they were all set up absolutely perfect. Sales staff tells me that they make sure all the guitars are tuned and setup. I was impressed, especially after coming over from Guitar Center where all the guitars I tried were grossly out of tune and played like garbage.Needless to say I walked out with a new G&L.

I asked about several things in the set up when I took it in and the guy (dont want to mention names) told me they would do all of that. I ended up just having to set it up myself. Recently had a great experience with Troy at Guitarworks! Previous times that Ive been in the store havent been so great, but Troy really went above and beyond this time, guiding me through multiple different editions and features, while giving me plenty of time to play different guitars and even playing for me so I could hear the tonal dynamics of my favorites. Im a Martin player, and their selection of Martin and Taylor instruments is one of the best on the South Side.I learned that also have a certified tech available for Martin guitars, which puts me at ease for any of my future purchases. Overall, very thankful to still have a solid shop in the area!My only minor complaint is that I find their electric guitar offerings to be a little lackluster, but thats more due to my personal brand preferences than actual quality of the instruments. Overall, especially for their acoustic guitar selection, Im really pleased with Guitarworks!

They remember who I am when I come in, and they are always focused on finding the right product for your needs, whether its an instrument, strings, picks, etc... Lessons program is great, from what I can tell. My little brother gets along with his instructor, Ive had friends in the band builders growing up. Salesman Matt is very personable, not too pushy.Other than the stuff listed above, I absolutely can not stand this store. Every time i walk into the store to drop my brother off for his lesson, being a musician myself, I like to have a look around. If I so much as flip a price tag, the staff is on me, hovering. If you arent going to buy it, you cant play it. For a shop that prides itself on product knowledge, and educating the next generation of musicians, I would think they would understand that you need to put your hands on an instrument before you feel good about it. Also, dont ask me if I am going to buy it if it has no price tag and you havent communicated price. Knowing they would have one, I went in with the intention of buying a Taylor T5. After 5 minutes, I decided I would not be giving them my money at all. The owner, Kevin Franklin has never been anything but condescending and rude to me. This week, after lesson, he extended that attitude towards my fiance and little brother. My brother has been wanting a 5 string fretless bass for some time, and decided to try one after lesson. Bring the Primus fanatic he is, he got into slapping it just long enough for Kevin to come by and yell at him, telling him that he would break the instrument, and that it was NOT how you play a fretless. So much for being knowledgeable. In short, lessons are great, gear and accessories are overpriced, Kevin is a rude shyster, and he will never get a dime of my money.
