We just happened to pass by exploring downtown and popped in for a coffee and hot cocoa. My daughter got a hot cocoa and thought it was delightful. She was happy she could drink it almost right away, it was hot but not scolding. I got a cold brew with vanilla and um, wow! I drank the whole thing!!! It was my first time having one and I am sold! My husband got a vanilla mocha and we were a happy family!
Dead River has the best coffee around. Roast the beans in house. Always a stop when in town
One of the coolest, most original, and fun coffee shops I’ve ever been to. Sloan and the staff were so friendly. Love all the funky stuff around too! Will be back! Delicious muffins and coffee!
You have EVERYTHING I WANTED!!! Veteran owned!!! Locally owned!!! Fresh Pastries!!! EVERYTHING!But, park and pay with an app, NO THANK YOU!!! Id gladly pay a $5 surcharge for the privilege to park, come in and order then take 5 pounds of coffee with me to enjoy at home... But app to park BITESAnd yes, I know its a city of Marquette thing and not in your control... nevertheless, I dont need an app to park.
Delicious coffee beverages with a unique flare! Loved the Bee Bomb! Super friendly service! Cant wait to be back for more caffeine!
Omg!!! The people here are so nice!!! The barista was super nice and the older gentlemen was funny and hopefully after the nice lady and I told the barista about Muriel’s Wedding she’ll watch it!!! I got some beautiful roasted dark coffee beans from Nicaragua. And the guy really knows his coffee!!! He also gave me a dead river mask which I love and also get those dark chocolate expresso beans😛. They also made me trip unforgettable by telling me to go see the black rocks which are 1.7 billion years old. It was my first walk outside since being severely sick for two months with covid. I had an incredible time and I really can’t thank you guys enough. After all the things that happen last year to start this year off with so many beauty moments I’m just really full of gratitude. Thanks so much guys and hope to see you guys again. 🥰
Had such a good cappuccino! It was a pleasure to talk with the barista and learn of her passion for roasting. Wish I lived close enough to go there every day
Great coffee and knowledgeable staff. Was simply in awe with how much they knew about different flavors as they pertain to different regions.PS ya dont need an app to park. Just drop a quarter or two in the meter and youre good to go.
Mmmm This coffee was so tasty! Old-fashioned style shop with a Northwoods kinda feel. Highly recommend The Misery Bay Cold Brew
Excellent coffee! Ive gone through most of their roasts and enjoyed each one.
My expectations were low for Marquette. This was terrible coffee. Bring your own beans when traveling through the Upper Peninsula.
A small-town coffee roaster in the beautiful town of Marquette, located alongside Lake Superior. Stop in for their amazing expresso and stay for some locally made pastries, pies, and vanilla bean syrup. If you are looking for some incredible tasting coffee, knowledgeable staff, and some good ole northern Michigan hospitality, Dead River Coffee Roasters is your spot.
Really good coffee and cute little store. They do not have seating so this is an order and go stop. I do wish they had a few more food items but the chocolate chip muffin was tasty.
I really enjoyed our visit here! This place is so special, definitely the coolest coffee shop Ive ever been to! Loved the vibe! Happened upon a really fun cribbage game which only added to the ambiance. The smell of fresh roasted coffee beans, music playing lightly in the background and lots of things to look at. I love the sound the coffee roaster makes, would be a great noise to sleep to 😊.As far as the coffee, delicious! I also tried the 906 summer blend tea and loved that as well! This place will always be on my list of places to visit when I go back to Marquette. It will always have a special place in my memory. Thanks for bringing the passion for coffee (and life) to Marquette! True artisans in their craft. Stop in and take a step back in time and taste life!Follow me for more places to visit in Michigan. Instagram: withlovefrommicheI did post a short video of the roaster in action 🥰
Wonderful coffee and service, be sure to stop by when you are in town!
Hidden Gem 💎 fully addicted to the Misery Bay Cold Brew
Fine coffee, and always good conversation in this delightfully funky coffee shop.
They know how to make espresso! Ive been to many places who claim to sell espresso, but it isnt. Dead River Coffe roasts their own beans and make an excellent coffee. Even when the baristas change, the espresso quality remains the same, which means they know what they are doing. I was visiting Marquette for a few days and frequented this coffee shop daily. It is not exactly a place to browse the internet. It simply is about coffee, pure and simple. I talked to local people and everyone loved them. I would recommend it without hesitation to any coffee connoisseur, or anyone who wants to have a good time.
The coffee is very good and they are very knowledgeable about the different coffees and the history and why each region produces different flavors
Beautiful sunny cool northern Michigan day and we have just had the best coffee in months!
I have been ordering beans to ship downstate for years, and always have a positive experience. Every Christmas, I get a pound of Northern Nighthawk for my dad. It is his favorite thing to find under the tree, and he quickly makes both of us a cup while we all open presents. I would highly recommend you visit or order some of their amazing beans.
Excellent call on the Honduran, Theo. Yall will like it too.
Always great coffee and great service! My go to coffee shop in Marquette!
Coffee roasting as nature intended, I have beed a patron for many years on my many trips to Marquette including the old store on Washington street. Glad they now have internet sales. Never disappointed here.
Great coffee, great menu options and a super friendly staff! Buy a pound to take home with you!
I wish we would have been in town long enough to get a second cup of coffee at this place. We both got lattes on this visit. Since I really like my drinks hot, I would ask them to make the milk extra hot next time. But the temperature of the latte was perfect for my husband. Since they roast their own coffee I also would have loved to try a black cup of coffee, but I’ll do that on my next visit. And I’m definitely looking forward to visiting this coffee roaster again. The croissants they were selling are amazing! I wish I would have asked were they got them. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you stop by this little roaster for a cup of joe!
Cozy setting. Helpful and friendly staff. Good coffee 👍🏻
Great tasting coffee at a reasonable price. Easy parking. When we visited they were out of carmel flavoring, so very sad. Had to suffer with a vanilla latte. Oh the humanity.Update: Carmel isnt normally on their menu. Doesnt make me want to go any less. Highly recommend!
Didnt patronize this place. Not a coffee drinker.
Sloan and team are more than great. Go get some excellent coffee and enjoy your time in Marquette. Grab a coffee here and pair it with a loaf of bread or any other treat around the corner at Marquette Baking Company
Fantastic coffee and customer service
Oh my gosh what an incredible find! I am sitting out on the sidewalk on a cool fall morning sipping amazing coffee while enjoying the view of Lake Superior. A funky little unassuming roaster that is the real deal!
Exceptional coffee, like a circus in your mouth, and extremely friendly staff. You wont touch that stuff from the grocery store shelves after this.
Friendly staff, cute shop, great coffee. Not much else to say
Ordered a vanilla latte and it was phenomenal. They roast their coffee right in the store which is super neat
One of the best local coffee shops Ive had the pleasure of visiting. The manager/owner is passionate and knowledgeable about their product and helpful when necessary. Try their nitro brew!
Been going here for years. Good prices. Fantastic product. I recommend the coffee beans to take home. They are fantastic
Pretty much the only coffee we drink. Excellent rich flavor. Top notch!
Friendly service, parking sucks.Marquette parking meaders only work part time. They are GREAT at taking your money, and give you NO Time
Really cute local coffee spot, get coffee there every time we go through marquette. Their espresso blend beans are also really good to buy and take home.
Good hometown coffee shop
I bought a bag of coffee (Yellow Dog, I think its called). Extraordinary. I ordered a similar type online from San Francisco a few months ago for $25 a bag, and this Dead River Coffee is probably slightly better.
Had a great time at Dead River coffee shop. Had an early morning meeting here and was not disappointed. I got the red eye espresso, and man was it smooth. Rich and delicious, and really competitively priced. Always like to buy local when I can. And well definitely be back for more meetings. you will not be disappointed if you have meetings here or just run in for a quick coffee.
Still my favorite coffee roaster in Marquette. Nothing fancy and a real fun cast of regular customers, If you like to play cribbage, this is the place to go. Excellent pies and baked goods to go along with the freshly roasted coffees. Limited seating but lots of atmosphere.
The coffee is really good but if you expect lots of syrup flavors you wont get that here. Their coffee speaks for itself thats what I was told and it was good and the young lady working it did sweeten it up a little for me. Cool little place.
What is there not to like about Dead River? Great folks with a great customer community. You are treated like family even if you only stop in a few times per year. And the owner is generous and caring. Want some coffee? This is the place to get a cup.
Delicious coffee. Very patient and helpful staff. Excellent cold brew! Convenient location a block away from the farmers market.
I discovered something amazing here that I have never seen before from a coffee shop. Honeyed Roasted Coffee! The Honeyed process adds an amazing flavor!
Beans are roasted in house and the coffee is consistently amazing. Shop owner is very friendly and seems like a great guy.Dont miss out on Marquette best! I always pick up a couple pounds of beans to take home on my way out of town because its that good!
Great coffee and friendly people working there, whats not to love a out it!
The owner (Theo?) is super pleasent, helpful, and very kind. Hes a coffee guy who knows his stuff. Every roast I have tried from dead river has complex but not too complex flavor, goes down smooth, and seems to lack the acidity of many other coffees. I came in recently and picked up a pound each of two different roasts and Theo finished then with the personal touch of the names of the roasts in his fountain pen on the bag. These beans in my French press make out of this world coffee. Oh, and he even through in my 16 ounce cup of Joe with the purchase on the house. Cute shop with great smells and nice decor. Im a fan; I only wish I didnt live so far away.
Great shop to sit and relax, play cribbage with the owner, and enjoy your favorite cup of joe. A bit pricey, but very eclectic and honey, with the nicest service. Loved it.
If you love strong coffee this is the place to go. I had a cappuccino, and it was absolutely knock your socks off strong. It was great once I added sugar and milk. Tiny cups, but huge character. Definately suggest a trip for any coffee lover!
Quaint place to have a stop. The coffee packs a punch, appreciated! Nice staff and very enjoyable break on our road trip. Will be back anytime we are in the area. Yay!
Awesome coffee
Very good coffee. They roast (drum roaster, not air) in a corner of the room. Reasonably priced. Not a lot of seats, but cozy, with a living room vibe. Restrooms are hard to find - they are behind a curtain.
Exlleent location coffee and great bakery next door
Super friendly! I highly recommend the vanilla latte it was amazing!
A good selection of coffee beans to choose from with limited seating. You can get coffee drinks and some snack items. Sorta hipster type environment. If you need anything more to eat Lake Superior Baking is just around the corner.
A unique atmosphere, where they grind the beans right in front of you. The coffees real good, too.
The menu was a but unclear so when I asked for a few clarifications the employee was so vague that a customer had to help me out. What I was told would be a plain croissant turned out to be a ham and cheese sandwich with mustard. My iced latte was 98% ice and therefore left no room for the milk to sweeten it up. service was okay, staff was friendly. I wont be comming back but it is a cute little place to check out.
These guys are amazing! We loved the muffins and the coffee. Plus, such nice people. Do try this place if you visit Marquette. :)
What a cool lake breeze feeling, UP north laid back, time is not ticking away coffee shop with power kicking pour overs!
They know how to pull a great espresso shot! Also, Id highly recommend their chai latte. Its a very original taste... not too sweet, not too bland... perfect! Staff are original, and not cheeky like Starbucks-- which I like.
Take it from a coffee snob...They have awesome fresh coffee. Theo knows how to roast his beans..and roasts to perfection. They use all fresh ingredients, everything is home made even the whip cream and vanilla for the lattes, The atmosphere is perfect..I just wish they were open more and all eve!! This is A must stop!!
Great little coff.ee shop and roasters, very good coffee
Nice coffee shop in a beautiful town
Best coffee I could find in the Upper Peninsula! On a recent vacation to the area, I was worried about finding any coffee places at all. Came across this gem after a Google search and so glad I did! Made a visit every day of the vacation. Well Done! The lattes are wonderful.
Their black coffee price was too high for just coffee, but coffee was okay. The atmosphere was nice
Best coffee we had in Marquette, bar none.
The coffees here are DIVINE. The owner knows what hes doing, I havent been disappointed. The staff is always friendly, the atmosphere is nice, and the prices are great for how super the coffee is.
Great little coffee shop with excellent self roasted coffee, had the Kenyan Peaberry, so good!!!!
I wanted to give them one star because the people were so rude, but the coffee was too dang good. We walked in and a guy and girl were playing cribbage. He shoved back in his chair and said, Every damn time!He got up and took our coffee order and she helped make it with eye rolling and glares. Tried visiting with them but they clearly wanted us gone. So the service was the rudest Ive ever experienced, but the coffee was amazing. Fair enough?
Fantastic coffee, personal vibe. After three visits they remembered what I ordered. Made right in front of you. Love stopping here when I am in Marquette.
I hadnt been in here in almost ten years, but it hasnt changed in the slightest. Coffee and ambiance are still amazing. Dont ever change Dead River.
You should go get a cup of coffee from Theo. Its good for your soul.
Fantastic qualityFantastic productsFantastic service
First decent cappuccino I have found in the United States, thanks! 👌❤️
Cool place and funny people. Get the espresso and lemonade.
I dont come often but when I do I leave with alot of coffee. This place is super nice and has some delicious roats. Northern Nighthawk is my favorite. Its been a hit at the office when I bring it back to GR
Delicious, fairly priced, and homey-feeling. Stopped in for an Americano and it was perfectly refreshing. The interior of the place reminds me of Colorado or a mom and pop place in Asheville. Woodsy, welcoming, and warm.
In the early stages of what turned out to be an exhausting three day trip, I was so grateful to the folks at Dead River for having such a pleasant atmosphere and fantastic coffee. The young lady at the counter prepared the best mocha latte Id had in a long while.
Theo and his crew are always wonderful. Best coffee and company around!
Great place for a cup of coffee! We got a mocha and a drip coffee.Excellent drip coffee, but that mocha was out of this world! I don’t get as enthusiastic about mochas typically, but this mocha was malty and rich, and just unforgettable. Will definitely definitely definitely come back for like 10 mochas lol!
Amazing costume service. I definitely reccomend this place
Great coffee, nice people...would most definitely do again!
The most delicious vanilla bean latte EVER! And Theos a real gentleman. Thanks for the hospitality!
Best chai made by owners (unsweetened).
Nice balanced cup of coffee. Bakery was great and service was splendid
Great little coffee shop. Good service. Good coffee.
Coffee was very good but customer service was lacking. Barista was a little sullen and filled the stereotype of the northwestern Baristas from 15 years ago. This is enough to keep me from returning.
A real coffee shop without all of the fu fu drinks.
