The owner took time to show us all the old musical equipment and even how they worked, 10 out of 10
Our kind thanks and appreciation to Aaron for playing our 90 year old Uncles 78 recording of his self when he was 21 years old and his Mother Beverly Shaws recordings from 1938! It was truly a delight to hear them the way they were meant to be heard on a 78 record player. My husband and I both were swept away in time as we listened. We also truly appreciate you letting my husband and I recording these albums to our phones and sharing these audio memories with our Uncle. It brought tears of delight to him, he could not believe he was hearing these songs which were made many decades ago. Forever grateful to you Aaron for being just as nostalgic as we are. Jackie & Craig
High quality furniture at an affordable price. I am extremely happy with my visit and found just what I needed and in perfect condition. We ending up staying long after our purchase just to hear all about the history on some of the amazing antique music players Aaron has in the shop. It was a great experience over all and I will definitely be returning.
I had so much fun in your store. You are so knowledgeable about all the antiques and passionate about teaching.
Really interesting place, lots of cool items!!
This is about my wifes experience w/Barrington resale. She had spoken to him about selling some used furniture for a friend. He finally agreed to pick up the items but offered very low payment for it and was very rude and unprofessional and accused them of being dishonest about their description of the furniture and accessories. He is NOT a nice person and after their experience they would never refer anyone to him or his store.
Great shop. Other than the chandeliers and furniture there is a great victrola and music box collection. The owner is passionate about all the pieces and is willing to show you how the different machines work. Most notably, there is a Nickelodeon. Visit here for a great historical experience.
This is the first time Ive ever written a review, but I wanted to share my experience as a customer of the Barrington Resale Shop. I visited the store, because I saw a bedroom set that I was interested in on line. Since the shop is about 30 miles from where I live, I had never visited the shop. I ended up buying several pieces of furniture, as well as a few decorative things from the shop, including the beautiful antique bedroom set I that I went to check out. I felt the prices were fair, especially with the 20% off sale that was going on when I was there. The sales woman, Debbie - I think?, in the store was very friendly and helpful; yet, I didnt feel pressured to buy anything. The owner, Aaron, delivered my furniture to Niles, IL, a few days later on a Sunday! Not only did he deliver the furniture I purchased from his store, but he was kind enough to pick up a chair that I had purchased from an individual about 20 minutes away from the store on the way to my place, and he didnt charge me! This not only saved me a lot of time, but also the hassle of having to borrow someones SUV or the expense of renting a van.Lastly, when Aaron and his helpers delivered the furniture; they didnt dump and run. He and his helpers took the time to set up the bed and rearranged some of the furniture several times, until we were all pleased with the layout. He also took the time to explain and demonstrate how to operate a clock I purchased from him and made sure he addressed all of my questions. In short, I am exceptionally pleased with my purchases, as well as the prices, and the service at Barrington Resale couldnt have been better! Aaron and his team definitely went above and beyond to ensure that I satisfied!
Weve been to the shop a few times and enjoy browsing through the pieces. One can easily tell this is not a shop where a quick buck is looking to be made - no, theres a true passion for the antiques here. For me, the uniqueness of this shop lies within its dedication to the phonographs. This very special section of the store surrounds itself in period-era pieces and is very reassuring that what you see (and hear!) is of great quality. Speak with Aaron, hell show you what these amazing treasures can do. A stop by this shop is highly recommended!
Furniture is beautiful, wide range to choose from to suit most budgets. Best of all, the owner bends over backward to make sure customers are happy. Always check him first when I need any piece of furniture.
Wow, great selection. Erin is a wealth of knowledge & great showman who loves his work. He has a real passion & great eye for everything in the shop. Thanks Erin, see ya soon to see whats new !
Great place with very nice vintage furniture. Super cool mini meuseme. Owner is very knowledgeable. Stop here and check this place out.
Imagine coming unawares upon a trove of Unique and Amazing items. But wait, theres more: Among all of this are wonderful antique music machines restored and working. The owner, a charming and engaging gentleman by the name of Aaron, is a fount of knowledge on this subject. Stop in and see this. It is a treat you will not regret!
My wife and I visited this store to investigate an antique secretary desk that we saw on the stores website. As we found the desk, we learned information about the desk from Aaron. We agreed to a very fair price for the desk. Aaron was, then, gracious enough to show us his collection of antique music machines located in the store. Afterwards, Aaron and his staff load the desk into our vehicle. We are very pleased with the quality and price paid for the desk, and will fondly remember the mini music museum.
I stopped in here yesterday while waiting for my brother at the comic book store. I was beyond amazed by the selection of antique and restored musical machines. The owner Aaron was extremely friendly and shared his wealth of knowledge with me on the beautiful pieces. He even let me play some of them! I had a really great yet unexpected day of adventure through time and will definitely be coming back for more adventures! :) I highly recommend this resale shop, especially for music lovers.
I stopped in here with my grandmother the other day, and we were both amazed by the selection. Aaron shared his wealth of knowledge with us on everything from antique record players to carousels. All of the items looked flawless no matter what their age, and Id definitely recommend it!
Good selection of furniture. Music boxes are incredible! Too many not for sale items. Excellent place to browse, inventory does change often enough.
Our family was in search of a bedroom set so we stopped in at Barrington Resale Shop. This is the kind of place you can find top quality furniture at such a good price. We were able to get an entire set for a Great Price and help loading all the furniture. It was such an enjoyable trip. I cant wait to be in need of more furniture
Great experience! Walked in to this uniquely eclectic resale shop, and immediately saw the perfect sofa and chairs for my living room! :) Fantastic quality, reasonable prices, great service, and they even deliver! Will definitely be stopping in again in the future!
This is a lovely shop with a wide variety of treasures, but the most interesting things to be found were the antique record players and music machines. Aaron was kind enough to demonstrate the machines and share his knowledge and passion with us. Its definitely worth stopping by, even if just to look around!
Looks fantastic from the front window. Sadly for me it’s 12md Friday and the shops not open. Pretty Disappointing ;(
My husband and I are went to the Barrington resale shop today to see what it was all about. We walked through about half the store when we were met by the owner, Aaron. He started giving us lots of information about different pieces that he carries and how he goes about purchasing the pieces that he puts in the store. He was very knowledgeable and actually demonstrated the music pieces that he has in the store. Although, we did not purchase anything we were very impressed! We will be back often to check out what they carry.
One word..Awesome!!!
The prices are ridiculous, they are used furniture and the prices are higher than a new furniture store
Beautiful pieces of furniture and household items. The owner is very nice and willing to negotiate some on prices.
Great place for antique hunters with upscale taste
Very nice store. Beautiful furniture. Interesting accessory pieces. Antique phones and record players. Very friendly staff, especially Aaron.
Was really interested in buying a chair. Needed some assistance. Someone at a computer said I had to wait for someone to get off the phone . So I waited, and waited....and waited. Finally I told Mr computer guy looks like he is settled in with no end in sight so we will go. Without even looking at us says “ that’s fine”Alrighty then! Won’t be buying that chair after all.
Its true that many items are unique and specialized: Victrolas, Gramophones for example. Most furnishings however are most regular, entirely uninteresting but in reasonable condition. The owner; Aaron is affable if not quirky. Prices are inexplicably all over the place. Youll scratch your head in wonder at the schizophrenic flux of assigned values as you meander the rows of these common remnants. One serious caveat to the potential seller of goods; enter not your negotiation holding any reasonable expectation for recognition of your items common value. Aarons offer for purchase will no doubt offend.
Hidden gem! Beautiful pieces!Owner is super nice and helpful!
I work here so i would lol but good furniture and great prices👋🏼👋🏼💕
Great place for inexpensive antique furniture. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Love this store, too many unique finds at unbelievably reasonable prices. Had the awesome chance of meeting the owner, a very warm and friendly person. Would definately recommend this for the selective thrift store shopper. They have a large collection of old Victrolas and other hard to find vinyl players.
Great collection and affordable, owner Aaron Muller is a Remarkable Person .
Very knowledgeable about edisons and victrola and pathé machines! Ask to see the maccordian, well worth the trip!
This place Really put a smile on my face. The artifacts in here are quite surprising and impressive. This place definitely has a an authentically powerful theme going for it centered around the working and visually stunning Victrolas, Nickelodeons and Edison Players.I think a really savvy restaurant or bar owner could source something from here for an interesting thematic, perhaps post-modern, twist to their space.I can see this place catering to the collections of the more esoteric minded wealthy residential owners too (Traditionalists). Wealthy modernists need not come here, lest they abandon their ways. For this place, think San Fillipo House & Collection in Barrington, where the aesthetic encounters are in the same visual spirit of Alphonse Muchas period work, and brought to life by these musical mechanical wonders of the industrial age. The paradigm of this store also has the typical collectors attention and obsessions with authenticity; details, and the themes of tradition that Randall Hearst was well known for. Although Hearst was a industrial era newspaper man, his main obsessions centered more on the Romanticization of collections that reinforced Masonic Symbology, hence why his collections pulled mainly from classical history. This store stays true to the Romanticization of The Industrial Era music, lighting, and furniture - an impressive display of the bygone period Chicago is most known for.The owner is quite friendly here and very enthusiastic and eager to show the collection.
Zero stars not an option, unfortunately...I saw some furniture in which I was interested on Craigslist, so I called the number provided in the posts. I wanted to know if the items were still available, and what the general condition might be, etc. After some questions, I ultimately learned that I was speaking to Aaron, the owner of Barrington Resale Shop in Algonquin. He spoke loudly, and frenetically, and he rarely allowed me to get in a word edgewise, but ultimately I obtained the information I sought.A couple weeks later, I made the 50-minute drive to his store, to view the pieces. When I arrived, I discovered a paper sign taped to the door, stating that the store had closed early that day.I decided to call Aaron, on the cell phone number provided in his Craigslist posts. I kindly asked if he might consider reopening his store for me, given that I had driven 50 minutes. He stated that he had social plans for the evening, for which he was in the middle of getting ready, but would swing by in 10-15 minutes.Fantastic. I appreciated that. And he did arrive at his store within the window he approximated. The pieces in which I was interested were in the condition described via telephone. However, I quickly noticed sewing issues with the upholstery: seams were visible, when they absolutely shouldnt be visible, and the stripes of the upholstery didnt match up at these visible seams, and at other locations on the pieces. But even if the stripes of the upholstery had matched up at these seams, the seams, themselves, should never be visible.I didnt hold Aaron responsible for this shoddy craftsmanship--and I didnt care if he hadnt noticed these issues prior to my pointing them out--but upon having pointed out the sewing defects, he immediately became visibly upset. He began throwing pillows back into place (after attempting to hide the seams by flipping pillows, which did not remedy the issue), while huffing and puffing about how he was late for his social obligation, etc.You dont want a used sofa; what you want is a NEW sofa!I actually buy used furniture regularly, via consignments stores and Craigslist posts, but I, personally, dont buy furniture with sloppy/shoddy craftsmanship. Just not my thing. And while I appreciated Aaron reopening his store for me, I didnt appreciate his Jekyll & Hyde demeanor. After scanning a few other items in the store--at his encouragement--I quickly took my leave.I spent 11 minutes in the store. Literally.Unsettled by how our exchange had played out, I followed-up with Aaron via text. I (again) thanked him for his time, for returning to reopen his store. I also acknowledged that the pieces were largely as he had described via telephone, but that the sewing/upholstery defects prevented me from making a purchase. I specifically included how I didnt hold him responsible for not having noticed these sewing defects and sharing them with me prior to my visiting his store.I wished him well.Aarons text reply didnt address anything but my choice of New Balance running shoes, stating that they looked as if I had stolen them from a 5th-grade girl, and that I probably wouldve stolen her backpack, too, if the flowers depicted on it had been arranged differently.Hmm... Thinly-veiled gay bashing???(I will refrain from describing the peculiar attire he was wearing, or the peculiar vehicle he drives.)I replied to his reply, suggesting he get help for alcoholism, drug abuse and/or bipolar disorder--whatever ails him. Because there clearly is something unwell about this man. He runs tight, ready to explode, it would appear.Hes your best buddy until your association with him doesnt play out to his satisfaction. He replied again via text, but I chose to delete that text prior to reading. Im sure it was a doozy!Bottom line: run from this store, from this man.*Just read Aarons fabrication below. We didnt discuss price, I didnt make up flaws, etc. I have photos of the upholstery issues, and screenshots of our entire text exchange. Shall I post these, Aaron?
Barrington Resale has an AMAZING selection of antique musical machines. Aaron was so kind to show us how they all worked. The store had a range of unique pieces and collectables. If you are looking to buy something from someone who knows its history and only sells high quality collectables, then this is the place for you. It is however a bit on the pricey side. This is not the place you would go to buy something very cheap from someone who knows nothing about the product.Loved the store and the general atmosphere. We will definitely be back!
Very nice service and price!
My son and i stopped in the other night and aaron was very informative on talking about the different old phonographs and nickelodians that he has on display there. a delightful experience.thanks again aaron. jay and dylan wright.
