So much more than a Gas Station. Great food! Excellent people! Stayed at the hotel across the street ate breakfast and lunch here everyday.
I am apprehensive about posting this review. Not sure if I want to share this hidden gem, but the team working there are awesome and deserve praise. Its the best pork loin sandwich period. My wife had the blueberry bbq sandwich, and it crushed. Did breakfast and lunch the same day when dropping my son off for college. My new spot.
They always have a lunch special going on, the food was very good and for the price you get plenty of it. I normally get the brisket or pork tenderloin with a side of fries. The large portion sizes are great you can probably share it between two people. This is a must try place.
Fast food outlets offer hash brown only to find tatter tots HyVee did away with their hash browns . If you want real crispy hash browns this is the only place I found in Ames. i suggested prime rib on game days as the do BBQ in back that I have not tried . Family owned
This is NOT your parents convenience store! Sure they sell gas but where else can you get your choice of flavored popcorn, SUPERIOR grill items, and plantain chips? Locals know this is THE place so be prepared to wait a bit during the lunch rush. Youll be glad you did.
Have been for lunch a couple of times and awesome every time. The tenderloin and burger are amazing and they have the best fries in Iowa. I had breakfast for first time today and also amazing. I had an omelette and my wife had biscuits and gravy. All wonderful and fresh. I lived in Tennessee for 14 years, and have traveled all throughout the south and even been to a biscuit festival in Tennessee, and The Filling Station has the best biscuit I have ever eaten. Also my son wanted to try the tenderloin because he has never tried it from here. The awesome and friendly man who took our order said they dont normally make it during breakfast hours, but since the fryer was turned on, it would be no problem to make it. My son loved it. I highly recommend this place.
Blueberry brisket melt and the fries are my go to here and super delicious 🤤 would go back.
Unique place! Great service and fun stuff
News flash!!! Contrary to what the site says they are CLOSED Sundays. So glad I wasted a trip!
Love the people’s and great environment. Really get to know they customers 💯
Convenient location and good cookies. Smells a bit weird inside tho so I havent been bold enough to order a meal yet
Great quick bite. Friendly staff
Easily one of the best gas stations Ive ever been to. The whole team is very friendly and helpful, place is always clean and organized. Its strange to try to recommend a gas station as a place to go for food but their food is amazing, they bake their own bread, smoke and prepare their own meats and the kitchen crew is amazing. Best breakfast sandwich Ive ever had
The best on-the-go breakfast anywhere, not just Ames. Burritos always ready-to-eat!
Love this place great food and and great service
Phenomenal quality
Best pancakes ever!
We had a last minute lunch we needed to host and the Filling Station was able to cater for us. It was fantastic from beginning to end. The customer service was incredible and the food was delicious and so nicely priced. We will be frequent visitors from now on. :-)
Friendly staff. I honestly wasnt expecting much from my breakfast burrito, but it had a wonderful aroma of smoked meat. The subtleties and hardiness of the tightly wrapped deliciousness put me in a momentary food coma; a small sacrifice for a Saturday morning fuel-up.
This place is a GEM! I have had so much great food from here, its unbelievable. However just so people are aware they close at 2pm, not 3pm. Google is wrong....again. Other than that get the Tenderloin!
Im impressed by their innovation in their new menu
Amazing Breakfast and coffee, a healthy selection of items that you dont find at your regular gas station. Truly a hidden gem. It takes every part of my being to not stop and get breakfast or lunch here every day!
I just love this place. It is the best example of Midwest hospitality. Staff is great and they have an awesome fountain pop station. Also great food.
High end lunch was ok but pretty pricy. Service was friendly but my fried chicken seemed like it must have been sitting for a while under a heat lamp. The pork tenderloin sandwich that most other people ordered looked awesome, might have to come back and try that. Also, the craft root beer was excellent.
Think “Chip and Joanna Gaines do convenience store and restaurant.” The filling station restaurant is encompassed in an upscale convenience store and serves a simple, yet well done and homestyle breakfast menu. You order at the restaurant counter, then drinks and any other items are self service and you pay at the station counter. The food is on point—both the breakfast sandwich and biscuits and gravy we had were made to order and down home. The coffee was far above the quality at even some coffee shops. Highly recommend!
Love this place
You have got to try the biscuits and gravy - WOW!!The pancakes are really good as well.Headed back their next week to try the brisket with mac and cheese. The Filling Station in Ames is worth the trip.
Spent 10 minutes having my family place an order online. It said it was unable to place my order at this time. So I called them and asked if I could still place an order and was told Just a minute. The phone was set down, I could hear talking in background, and proceeded to wait. After 8 minutes and no response I decided to hang up and call again. Nobody answered when I called back. Waste of 20 minutes while my family is waiting. Took business elsewhere.
When will you guys be bringing back the lavender lemonade 😩😩
I have never had a bad lunch from here. Tastes like your mom made it for you
Awesome. And totally unexpected! From the outside it looks like a well maintained mom and pop quickie mart.Even on the inside it looks like a typical convenience store, that is until you get to the kitchen.REAL FOOD! Cooked by real people. You place an order, pay for your meal and they bring it to you. Not your typical fast food or convenience store food. Its GOOD food.I had the tenderloin. Everyone in Iowa knows about tenderloins and has an opinion on the matter. In my opinion this is one of the best, not plate sized and miniscule in thickness. This was 1/2 plate sized, about 3/4 thick and very flavorful. You can actually taste the pork. The breading is also flavorful and crisp. It must be good, the guy next to me had a similar response and found the manager to compliment him on the sandwich. Two ladies on the other side of me declared, weve found a new hidden jem.I could not agree more.Congratulations to Filling Station for finding and filling a niche in the quickie mart market.Ill be back.
I stopped here for breakfast. The food was excellent (I had biscuits and gravy), the service was great, and the decor was beautiful. Highly recommend.
Fresh hot fast breakfast. Great omelet!!!
Got mac and cheese for a side and it almost made me cry...homemade taste just like my grammie would have made. The salad was amazing also.
The food is so good and always fresh! They also have great coffee.
Got gas...
Outstanding breakfast burritos and service
Great breakfast.
Horrible! Stopped for a quick bite....hot dogs were cold and over priced! They dont clearly label that it costs for toppings like onions!! Girl working didnt seem to understand customer service at all!!! Wont ever be back again! Do not stop here, waste of time!
By far the best food in Ames according to me. I love this place, the classic sandwich is delicious juicy, just wow. I have tried the pork belly blt its yummy too, the breakfast is the best in Ames I must say. The quality of food is also awesome. The staff is sooooo nice and friendly.
Excellent food and neat view of their Bakers in the bakery.
Great place, great food and EXCELLENT service! I ordered the farmers breakfast burrito.
Awesome tenderloin and very friendly staff!!
The best placed to eat in Ames Iowa
A bit expensive, but your typical convenience store food. There was not a lot of selection when it came to pastries, but that couldve been because it was busy.
