Bryan helped me replace the hydraulic steering system and test the cylinder for our sailboat. He designed a new system based on a jumble of copper tubing that I had brought in. Bryan researched my systems, was extremely helpful and followed up to ensure everything worked as designed. The system was easy to install. I’m not sure how I would have completed this project without Bryan’s help. I highly recommend Gold Star Alaska.
My wife and I took our boat to Gold Star Alaska this last summer (2020) to have a new chart-plotter / transducer installed and then to have a starter replaced. They were knowledgeable, efficient, and their service was fast. Working with them was easy and our boat is humming along great. I would definitely recommend working with them and Ill for sure take our boat there again if and when we need something done.
I’ve been very pleased with the work I had done at Gold Star Alaska. The first project was to install Garmin electronics for radio & navigation, connecting to the existing NMEA bus. The work was done professionally, on time and below the original estimate. The second work was similar, mounting a bilge pump, installing shorter shift/throttle cables and fixing a faulty key switch installation. Again the work was professional, timely and within estimate. When I have additional work, I will go back to Gold Star.
Gold Star Alaska is owned by Cory Armstrong of ACI boats in Port Townsend, Washington. My experience with both companies has been nothing but a nightmare. There is a laundry list of unfinished work on my boat and warranty claims that have not been completed correctly. Brian Baker has made multiple trips to try and fix issues with the boat however they are still unresolved. The flooring as soon as you enter the main cabin is heaving and coming up. I requested to have this issue fixed before the warranty was up and Brian came down to fix the issue. Well the flooring is heaving again and when I phoned Brian about it he told me that the warranty was out and I would have to pay to get it fixed. One would think when you pay close to half a million dollars for a boat that the flooring would last at least 1 season and if it didn’t the builder would stand behind their work. As best I can tell the fish well was never sealed properly and flooring is buckling from underneath due to water saturation. I had to have the bunks cut out an re-welded in and they took so long to resolve the issue that I lost trips due to the boat not being ready. The bunks couldn’t fit a child much less an average adult. When the guys were finished I had to hook up the heater/plumbing and the engine electronics cause they left without completing. They left a mess as well that we had to clean. The ACI made doors on the boat are not sealed properly and snow/rain comes through them I had a foot of snow inside my wheelhouse last winter which when I asked to be repaired they tried using rubber material to seal it but it still leaks. Pretty awesome I guess I should be happy because I have natural AC in my wheelhouse in the fall and winter anytime the wind blows. I guess if they would’ve insulated the wheelhouse as agreed it’d be a little warmer in there. I had to sail the boat to Seward Alaska to get the warped transom fixed due to a leak anytime I used reverse. They paid for the work and half of the fuel for transporting the boat there. Originally they agreed to pay for all of the fuel. My contract shows that the boat is supposed to have 4 bilge pumps with switches. I got 2 bilge pumps 4 switches and an extra hole in my boat with a ball valve on it and nothing attached. When I discussed this with the builder Cory stated the vessel was never intended to have more than 2 bilge pumps. I guess he didn’t read the contract or notice they installed the switches/penetration and a ball valve. I also had the hose to my washdown pump blow off and begin flooding the engine room. When I inspected why it did that the hose never had a hose clamp on it so it blew off under pressure. Good thing I was on the boat or it probably would’ve sunk tied to the dock. I guess to wrap it up this was my experience with this company hopefully you don’t make the same mistake I did.
Excellent customer service and professional workmanship on my boat.
