When we arrived in anchorage the weather was terrible, but since my family were only in Alaska for a week we decided to try a tour anyway. Due to the weather it seemed unlikely to see the sunset, but Russ was so knowledgeable about the area he managed to provide us with a great tour anyway. He found a Dahl sheep eagles and falcon to view as well as taking us to the native health Center to see a truly remarkable collection of native art and taste some alaskan berries fresh off the Bush. It was a great tour that took us up into the clouds (literally). As good as the tour was Russ felt bad that we hadnt seen much wildlife and said to call him when we got back from fairbanks so he could give us the proper tour. On Monday the weather was clear and we were taken on the most amazing tour down turnagain arm to Whittier Alaska where we got to touch the northern most part of the Pacific Ocean and on his recommendation experience what had to be the best fish and chips of my life made of halibut fresh from prince Williams sound. He then took us to a lake where bald eagles were nesting and the the conservancy center. We got to see the bore tide come in at turnagain inlet before heading up into the mountains where we got to see a moose eating bark in the snow before driving back down the mountain into anchorages stunning sunset. My family was amazed by how great the tour was, and to top it off russ even took us to pickup our baggage and drove us to the airport after the tour was finished since our plane was leaving in a few hours. If I ever return to anchorage or if any friends or family are going there I know this will be the first tour company called.
Booked a tour, ended up changing the date of my tour (all very short notice on me). Was told I was going i on a different tour 2 days later. Next day I get a call from the guide who tells me they are not taking me/canceled on me. I asked for a refund was told I would have my money by the en of the day. Didn’t happen. I filed a claim with PayPal for not getting the service I was promised. The owner begins to send me all these nasty text. Pretty disappointed with this tour company. I did a lot of tours while in Alaska and I can honestly say they are unprofessional and will definitely not deliver on their promises.
Booked this tour with Russ last minute. He had a spot for the next day and readily told me things I would need for the Matanuska glacier walk. Best part of the tour was the glacier itself!Pros: Lots of energy and is extremely enthusiastic. His interesting conversations from Anchorage to glacier and back filled the idle time with many fun incidents. Knows many stories about Anchorage and the Matanuska glacier. He has lived in Alaska all his life and can give a good perspective of life and culture here for people interested in learning more. He has apparently been doing this tour for a very long time and has great stories to tell on the way and back. Has a great eye for wildlife - spotted a moose from corner of his eyes in the woods. Also showed us some parts of the city which was nice of him. Picked up and dropped off at the place I was staying at. Lost my glove and he has my address to mail it to me in case he finds it in his car.Cons: one too many Freudian slips. Eg. when asked about getting a discount says for people of Indian descent I raise the price 20% and give them a 20% discount (he does not realize this to be an insensitive remark) Russ was late running late to pick up and blamed me for not calling him - said he tried calling me but there was no call from him.Ideal for people visiting Anchorage who dont have a definitive itinerary yet and would rather a local tour guide drive them back and forth.
I was skeptical about traveling to Alaska during Pandemic in October but i talked to Russ (Downtown Anchorage tour group); he was so confident that i booked and finalized my itinerary at the same moment. Me and my wife would highly recommend Russ, he was experienced, funny, helpful and one gem of a person. He really loves his work. The tours were flexible, we stopped at a lot of scenic locations where we could just close your eyes and feel in heaven at places like Reflection Lake. Glacier hiking was one hell of an experience as this was something pretty new we tried. We cannot forget the pure blue ice 🧊 up at Matanushka glacier. We saw the iceberg in fresh running water, tasted the fresh Halibut fish in Whittier, and had lunch at Long Rifle Lodge (included in the tour) which had a perfect location. He picked us from the airport a night before our tour, that was a sweet gesture. He was very passionate about fossil hunting and taught us a lot of ways to explore areas around Anchorage. From Earthquake effects, to wildlife trail we explored areas of ALASKA that we might not have, had we not booked him. As he knew we were from FLORIDA 🌞 during last night of our tour he drove us to the Flat Top Mountain where we experienced first snowfall of the season. We shall travel Alaska again next year as this was once in a lifetime experience for us.
My tour guide was Russ Reno. He is so friendly. His car is so clean. I took a private tour. He showed me the most important places in AK. I started the tour at 8.00 am, and I spent plenty of time in wonderful places. I really recommend to take tour with him if you are visiting AK . He has a lot of historical ans geographical information about AK. also, he pick you up and return you back to your hotel
Awesome place to experience what Alaska has to offer!
We thoroughly enjoyed our sunset tour with Russ in June. We saw heaps of things we wouldnt have seen otherwise. Our tour was well worth the money. Russ also went the extra mile the next day when we realised that we didnt have our transfer to Whittier for our cruise sorted. He got us train tickets and made sure we were all sorted. He was such a nice guy, his local knowledge is invaluable, we had a great insight to Anchorage and its history.
This tour is amazing!! Russ welcomed us so friendly and kind when we came to the office. We had some problems with some bookings and he helped us out right away! Every dollar of this tour is worth it! Russ knowledge is incredible. He is professional, experienced and attentive. Highly recommend this long, interesting and adventerous tour!
We visited this Tour Guide group for Alaska Driving Tour Suggestions. The owner, Russ Reno, was very helpful to us. We already a driving tour package from Gray Line tours which provided us with a car rental, lodging, and train tickets. We needed additional suggestions and guids. Mr. Reno was most helpful to us. We would definitely use his services if we were to go back to Alaska for a vacation. He suggested that we drive from Copper Center out to Tok and then back to Delta Junction to get to Fairbanks. This detour was an addition 100 + miles but the scenery was definitely worth the extra miles and time. Thank-you Mr. Reno
Russ is a great guy, he is very knowledgeable of the area. I highly recommend him.
