From start to finish, Brian had a perfect blend of competent, professional instruction with humorous examples and stories to help us learn all the skills needed to feel comfortable with our quest to get certified.I hope to finish up with him on my open water dives as well, but even if my schedule prohibits that, I REALLY look forward to taking a dive trip with his travel group at some point in the future, as he is not only a fantastic teacher, but a excellent source of knowledge and advice - as well as great guy to hang out with! My husband and I had a wonderful experience getting our PADI open water diver certification here. There was so much to love about Huron Scuba. The PADI online course was very lenient and informative. At Huron Scuba, all of the instructors were so nice. They not only have information about the course we were taking, but they recommended other places to dive and taught us what to look for to dive safely. The pool certification dive was long, but we learned absolutely everything needed in order to have a safe dive. If we did something wrong the first time, the instructors stuck with us until we did it correct and safely. I am taking a private lesson for the open water certification dive. Unfortunately, I was sick for the dates I was originally supposed to take it. But, the instructors were very understanding and only cared about a safe dive. I was easily able to reschedule to a new day. It’s been a great experience.

Did my beginners Padi e-learning course and confined water dives with Huron Scuba. The training really went above my expectations. I had some fears about scuba diving in general, but training with Brian and his team really helped me overcome those fears and get properly educated on how to dive properly/safely.Overall the staff and training are excellent.

Really enjoyable class — theyre very good about trying to keep everyone comfortable during this whole pandemic thing. The actual scuba instruction was great, too. Brian and Oleg were both great about sharing their own experiences with scuba and how the skills we were learning in the pool would apply to open water. They also did a really good job of emphasizing the importance of taking everything they were saying seriously. It was a good balance of fun and professionalism that made the idea of breathing underwater less intimidating. I thought it was a good experience overall and Im really excited to go on my certification dive!

My wife and I loved going through Huron Scuba. The instructor Eric M. was fantastic and made learning the material fun and easy to understand. We also recently did our open water test. We had to do it before our honeymoon so we scheduled a private class and got open water certified. We went down to Ohio and did it in the frigid waters, but even though it was cold and out of the ordinary, it was an amazing experience. Eric and Huron Scuba went above and beyond, they were very accommodating to all our needs We couldnt have enjoyed our experience more and if in the Ann Arbor area there is no place I would recommend more.

Just returned from a great trip to Bonaire with the Huron Scuba Family. Brian provided all the information we needed to be prepared for our first dive trip. He was meticulous in organizing all the details, including selecting the resort, completing all the paperwork prior to arrival, organizing the local orientation, and assuring daily dives went smoothly. We cant say enough about how much time and effort he put into this trip to ensure we had a memorable experience. In addition to the daily boat dives, we were able to get in the extra dives necessary for certification for advance diver. One of Huron Scubas master divers, Bart Patterson, was very accommodating in scheduling our knowledge review, briefings, and afternoon dives, and we were fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from a terrific teacher. I just did to discover scuba class and I had a GREAT experience! Bart Patterson is an awesome instructor, he was very professional, patient, very calming.... I could go on and on. He makes sure you are comfortable with what you’re doing. I wasn’t comfortable with the way I cleared my regulator, I signal to go up, I asked him if I could do it again and he was more than happy to take the time to make sure that I was doing it right and was comfortable with what I was doing.That’s what so nice, they are all about safety and making sure that you’re comfortable with what you’re doing. Bart was the lead instructor but I’d also like to thank Dive Master Tim Rush, he was Johnny on the spot, making sure everyone was good to go and if anyone needed a hand. He was very helpful! Also a shout out to Dave Master Jeff who made me feel at ease as we swam around in the deep end of the pool.Last but not least Brian Bundy, owner of Huron Scuba. For those of you out there who may be afraid or nervous to try scuba, I highly encourage you to use Huron Scuba for your training needs. In preparation for a trip to Iceland I wanted to get scuba certified so I could enjoy the diving opportunities there. I was starting from scratch needing both my open water and dry suit certs before the trip. Unfortunately, due to nerves, I had a hard time with some of the skills. When it was time for the open water testing, I didnt feel ready. I considered just throwing in the towel and sticking with a life of snorkeling (also a lovely way to see the water world) but Brian and his staff worked with me for extra pool time to work on the skills that were giving me trouble. Then I was able to schedule open water testing with one of his amazing (and incredibly patient!) instructors, Gary, for the five dives necessary for both certs. By the end of the testing, not only was I able to complete all of the skills successfully, my confidence had grown by leaps and bounds. I am incredibly grateful for their willingness to go the extra mile as now I feel ready (and excited!) for my trip. If nerves are holding you back from experiencing scuba, I highly recommend getting off the couch and heading down to Huron Scuba. Youll discover a whole new way to explore our beautiful planet. We have a top-notch experience from our first phone call with Huron Scuba to the end of our dive #2. Brian was so helpful and courteous on our first visit to the shop and helped us pick out our gear. I came to Huron Scuba to get my certification for a current employment position as a scuba contractor having no prior experience and left feeling completely prepared for any future recreational or professional dive trips. Top Notch Service!!Recently I went in to inquire about updating my training. Brian and his staff gave me personalized one on one attention. John answered a lot of my initial questions, Melissa made sure that I had all the equipment I would need for Dives #4 & 5, & Brian scheduled me with one of his instructors that fit MY unusual work schedule. Eric took all the time that I needed to ensure that I comfortable with the skills that I needed and made sure that I was able to complete them flawlessly. Came into Huron Scuba after doing a ton of research on the regulator that I wanted. They had two different models including one model above what I was originally looking for. When I asked for technical specifications, they looked up any they didnt know and were very honest instead of trying to spin something. Because of their honesty, I ended up purchasing the reg above the one I was looking for, ordered the cable for my dive computer through them and have also recommended several friends here already. I will definitely be back and for more than to pickup my new computer!

I first went to Huron Scuba a little over a year ago. I got my open water, advanced, and nitrox certification through them. Ive also been on two trips (Belize & Honduras) with them as well. The instructors are incredibly well informed and patient. The store staff is helpful and thorough. And the trips they offer are some of the best Ive been on. I could not say enough good things about Brian and the rest of the store. They make you feel like part of a family and I have met some great people through them and the trips. My kids (12 and 14) and I took the scuba class and had a great time! While they will still have to take the open water test in a month, we all felt our questions were answered, we were really prepared in the pool, and it was a lot of fun! I completed the PADI Rescue Diver Certification last weekend with Huron Scuba. The rescue diver certification course was comprehensive, serious and could be stressful for some and at the same time a lot of fun. The e-learning was the first on-line class I have ever done and I liked it! The practical scenarios were challenging and we all lived through them. All the divers in the group are all great guys and I am proud to now call them my friends. Based on my experiences Brian and the Dive Master team at Huron Scuba are the best! With the knowledge I have gained in this course, I would not hesitate now in coming to the aid of a diver in distress or assisting in a rescue. I highly recommend the class/certification to all divers out there who have thought about it and maybe hesitated on doing the training.

The way this course was taught - was excellent. They kept the class moving and the students engaged. Brian had assistance with the class from Gary and others staff members which made the class feel very personalized. I couldnt be more happy!After my girlfriend talked me into getting scuba certified I checked out several dive shops in my area(Rochester Hills), but I found the staff(Brian) at Huron Scuba to be much more personable and attentive than at any other store. I didnt mind driving an hour to class because they made it easy; 1 weekend and I was IN! Huron Scuba made it easy to become certified while not leaving out the fun aspect nor the safety aspect of things!I enjoyed them so much that I also got my Nitrox certification through them and I will most certainly go to them for all of my future diving needs!Speaking of future needs, anyone looking for a great dive vacation look no further! We just came back from Utila C.A. and everyone had a great time! Cant wait to do it all again!

The first time I stopped in, Brian must have spent 45 minutes just walking me through the different gear and answering my questions. On that first visit I didn’t buy any equipment and at no point felt pressured to do so. Even if it wasn’t to make a sale, Brian seemed legitimately happy to just be able to talk about SCUBA; you can really tell he’s eager to share it with people. When I made up my mind and came back a few days later to choose equipment and sign up for a class Brian wasn’t there but his staff were just as helpful. I’d have to admit that I’ve never felt extremely comfortable in the water in the past, but Brian has a laid back teaching style that seems to put everyone at ease. Everybody in our class seemed to have a good time and Brian was more than willing to take extra time on techniques for anyone that needed it, without making anyone feel self-conscious or like they were being remediated. He’ll make sure you feel confident in your abilities before moving on. I’m really looking forward to the open water certification dives. And I appreciated the fact that he’s trying to set a program up with returning veterans that have come back with disabilities so that they experience some of the same.

Would give 6 stars if I could; I cannot speak highly enough of how this business is run. Although I obtained my open water certification elsewhere, I recently got the advanced and dry suit certifications (nitrox to come soon) with Simon and gang from Huron Scuba. Theres nothing really to say except that diving with these guys is more like going out with friends than really a testing environment--its really just the same as any other dive, except you have the confidence that professionals are looking after you! If youre scared of the concept of diving, rest assured youll feel content with Huron Scuba. Just get in the water (a drysuit helps--I swear).Before I go, I have to give my complements to the owner Brian. This guy will treat you like his long lost friend, to the point of going well out of his way to accommodate you--not just as a customer--but just like you were his own dive buddy. Seriously. No intimidation, no business or money rules all mentality at Huron Scuba. The shop feels more likely a family environment than a company--something I wish I encountered at other businesses. Brian wants you to go diving and he wants you to have fun, all at a fair price. He even lets you rent gear for $1 after your lessons if youre around town afterwards (on Weds.)Looking forward to either getting some gear or heading out on a trip with these guys soon.Sorry for being overly verbose, but its well deserved.~Troy

There is only ONE spot in Michigan to get certified for SCUBA. You got it = it is Huron Scuba in Ann Arbor. Owner Brian is so passionate and knowledgable about EVERYTHING when it comes to SCUBA. His team of dive masters (Wayne B.) and dive instructors (Bart P.) are amazing and super friendly. If you want to be overtrained and excel at every diving skill - you have arrived at the right place. These guys are professional, fun, and very very knowledgable. They treat you like family and want the best for you! My wife Carlenda and I, and the couple we got certified with 10 years ago, Mary & Todd, traveled to Blackbird Caye Resort, Belize the week of April 2-9 for our annual Spring Break dive trip. Brian at Huron Scuba, set up the trip for us and turned out to be one of our best trips weve taken! The transition from Belize City Airport to the awaiting boat, Big Bird, that would take us to Blackbird Caye Resort, went very smoothly. The 1 1/2 hour boat ride was smooth and the isolated and remote resort certainly met our every expectation and then some! Only about 23-24 guests including us the first part of the week, and about 15 the last part of the week! Totally unplugged - no TV, no radio, no cell phone, no internet - perfect place to recharge. Our Cabana was literally maybe 20 yards from the water! On a few mornings, there were dolphins playing in front of our cabanas - just 30 yards or so from the shore! The diving was spectacular with great visibility, lots of turtles and spotted eagle rays. Carlenda & I dove the Blue Hole - that dive was not all that spectacular because it being so deep and thus short (we did see several reef sharks though)! The two dives after the Blue Hole (at Half Moon Caye Wall & Long Caye), as Brian told us they would be, were OUTSTANDING! The food at Blackbird Caye Resort was good and plentiful. The dive staff were fun, knowledgeable, safety conscious and took good care of us. The night sky - with very few lights and with the island being isolated - was amazing. The new resort managers-Brandon & Bernice, while on the job less than 2 months, were friendly and joined our table for meals several times during our stay. Blackbird Caye Resort is the perfect place to get away from the hustle & bustle and get some great diving in! This was the 2nd trip Brian has organized for us (Utila in 2014 was the first).Thanks again, Brian!!!

During a recent visit, Brian (owner) gave me some excellent professional advice regarding issues I was experiencing with my Pony Tank Regulator. Diving, unlike other hobbies, requires a knowledge of a number of skills to be enjoyed safely. It is a fun and relaxing sport. Whether you are a newby wanting to learn this sport or an experienced diver looking to enhance your skills, make HURON SCUBA your shop. I know from experience because I earned my PADI Divemaster certification here in 2017 and continue to enjoy being part of the Huron Scuba family.___________________________Michael & Brian: Thanks so much for the extra time & attention that you have given me these past months. Huron Scuba is most certainly a Five Star PADI shop. I live in Toledo and pass other SCUBA training/travel shops on my way to Huron Scuba. The extra drive time is worth it. You & your staff consistently provide not only superb SCUBA instruction but good value for the products that you sell and expert service for all of the hardware that accompanies this diving sport. Sometimes shops “seem” to forget that diving entails “breathing under water” and that misconfigured gear could present serious issues. At Huron Scuba you have taken care of all of my scuba needs, fixing my leaky SPG & depth gauge, malfunctioning Dive Computer component, upgrading my regulator, and really went out of your way to have a pair of “dry” gloves ready for me prior to an Ice Dive. Sending me technical info to help me learn the eRDP was also most appreciated and will not be forgotten.The mini-training sessions that you have given me have helped me understand the theoretical and applied aspects of scuba. You do not make me feel dumb when I ask a question. You make me want to learn even more about the sport of scuba & make scuba FUN.I am 63 years old and feel fortunate that my good health allows me to enjoy & continue diving. I feel that once one stops learning, one starts dying. The challenge of working to be a PADI Divemaster is something that I could not of even imagined in 2009 when I first learned to dive and makes me feel alive. I have tons more to learn but that is what makes this a challenge & fun and allows me to improve my diving skills while helping others.

Helpful and informative staff. As a newbie it was a lot to take in all at once, but im glad I went through it all with this place.

Just got my Padi open water certification from huron scuba, I went to another store first but when i went to check out huron scuba i was amazed by how friendly and helpful the staff are, they knew my name after the second visit, did not try to pressure me in buying anything. im definatly going to recommend them to my friends and i will be continuing my diving education with them in the near future.

I am NOT new to diving! Ive been diving since the mid 60s so needless to say, I do have some experiences. I am fairly new to Huron Scuba so you might want to take this review with a grain of salt, since new-bes are pretty gung-ho as a rule, to begin with.As a more advanced, experienced diver, and as a professional, discriminating person in general I like to think I have pretty good taste & am a good judge of character. I started my relationship with Brian, Adrian & Jen at Huron in March of 2011 and was so immediately taken by their professionalism, friendliness and personal attention, that 1 month later I found myself with a high end computer, new regulator in St Lucia!Among the new guys on the trip I was completely welcomed by Trip Leaders Dave & Rachel, Joe & Barb throughout the trip and when I needed it, was given their complete personal attention. They were completely professional and Daves sense of discipline & organization made the level of safety and ease throughout the trip, abundantly clear to me, as Im sure it did to the 31 others on the trip.A side trip here: Although I havent experienced it myself (I might sometime though) I could see why some might feel offended (other reviews?) by Daves seemingly pointed manner. Look, the guys disciplined; nicest guy youll ever want to meet, but the guys disciplined in his life -- given him a break!!I rave about the Island, the dive & facilities, yes, but its the personal & professional attention that I review here. Returning from the trip, & continuing visits to Huron Scuba, I am met with the same personal attention, care & professionalism that led me to the impulsive decision to make the trip, and to purchase equipment (which admittedly, I did need!).Its true that Brian is a stuff freak: he not only loves stuff but he seems to love the best stuff. So, he stock it in the shop. Look, Ive read other comments about the expense. In my experience, there is NO cheep scuba or accessories...anywhere! It could be that some product at Huron is pricey. Exactly how much is your life worth??? Are you willing to trust it to on-line specials? Go for it! Nuff said about that!Gary Sunderland was just great teaching the Nitrox specialty. Hes the only experience I have with the teaching ability of any instructor, so I cant review this too well...YET.Ive been so impressed by this bunch that I have signed to do lots of advanced training with them. Im excited about this.I have no doubt that, no mater your level of training, there is something for everyone in Hurons community (and they DO have quite a crowd of great people!).Again, I am among the new kids on the block but so far, the 45 minute rides to the shop have been worth it.
