Chuck Barnes and his staff are likely the most knowledgeable guys in the Midwest for classic cars. This was my first classic purchase of a 1967 Barracuda. Though the car was in good shape, Chuck brought it up to a completely new level. The original purchase from North Shore Classics and now having Chuck do his magic made it so seamless and a great buying experience.
I just got my 1980 MGB back after having a new clutch put in and a complete engine rebuild. Chuck and his mechanics did a fantastic job with the car. I really appreciate how helpful everyone was and how much detail went into doing everything perfectly.
Called for a tow. Picked my car up and took to their shop. Diagnosed and tested everything, replaced battery and car was ready for pick up. Excellent service and quick turnaround. Highly recommend!!
Awesome shop, great communication and very knowledgeable. Fit me in and got my Chevelle back up and running. Highly recommend.
They are fantastic! When they fix it, its fixed right! Its where I take my car every time.
Always great work, whether it’s my classic car or my family car!
Called to have my work vehicle pulled out of some snow I ended up trapped in. Chuck arrived and was professional and pleasant through then entire experience. Pricing was fair and they were there in half the time any other company told me. Highly recommended.
Always reliable; great service.
Chuck Barnes and his team are the best!
Chuck is complete fake when it comes to being open and honest. I purchased a car from North side classics and ask the sales team for a recommendation of a third party inspector. They recommended Chuck the owner of Barnes...2 months later after working with Chuck on the cars estimate I come to find out from a receptionist NOT FROM CHUCK that he owns both places !! Complete sham....why keep this hidden from me...Why represent yourself as a thirs party inspector while keeping the truth hidden that you own both places...!!!Stay away due to misrepresenting !!!!!!
Very professional car repair shop and the parking lot is like car museum
I just wanted to say thank you to Barnes automotive for helping me with my flat tire. They really know how to treat theyre customers. I had a bad experience before with another repair/tow trucking company, so thats why I say this. So grateful. They had a driver come help me in less than 30 minutes. Great service! The driver was very helpful and quick and not to mention nice and professional! I will be calling them from now on! Thanks guys!
Rush Dispatch is proof, without question, that people with money and no knowledge of cars shouldnt race them... He has now attempted to trash two businesses due to his own incompetence. Barnes Auto seems to have great reviews unless you have a $200,000 car... lol
My experience at Barnes Automotive was awesome! I brought in my Lincoln do to the fact that I noticed a weird grinding noise coming from the front end.. it didnt sound normal or feel right. So sure enough my brakes were no good they needed to be replaced. I had a great experience at Barnes very nice staff and the man who I believe is the owner Chuck, he was very nice and honest, stand up guy! As they say you pay for what you get! I think I know where ill be servicing my car from now on! Much thanks!!
The best auto repair shop in the world. Super friendly. Very honest. They wont do additional work without notifying the vehicles owner
Amazing team to work with if you need your car repaired. They are an extremely fair, professional and reasonably priced shop. Their towing services are a+ too!
I broke down on the side of the road and called Barnes for a tow. They came to my rescue in less than 30 minutes. The woman I spoke to on the phone was amazing and the driver that showed up was extremely professional and helped calm me down in an very stressful situation
Im not sure why there are so many one star reviews - perhaps disgruntled former employees? I have had nothing but excellent service at Barnes Automotive for many years. I highly recommend Chuck and his crew for all aspects of automobile care and maintenance. They also specialize in restoring classic cars, so youll see some interesting ones in their lot.
Was in need of getting my truck towed and called around looking for towing service. Barnes did an excellent job. They answer the phone and send someone out quickly. Cindy was very nice to deal with in the office. A job well done!
EDIT: Just had to have my car towed again and Marcus showed up and had it on his truck in under 5 minutes. He even was kind enough to send me a picture of where he parked it with the address!! These guys are way underrated, my new go-to!Travis just towed my car after calling AAA and he was here within 45 mins as estimated. Sad to see all the other bad reviews, because Travis was incredibly polite and professional. I have never had that kind of experience getting my car towed before!
Awesome
My car was stuck in neutral, so I called AAA to get towed. Marcus came to tow my car and was courteous, professional, and helpful. This was the first time Ive ever had my car break down, and I was super worried! Barnes made this much less stressful, and I appreciate it! Once again, shout out to Marcus for being so helpful!
Great shop! Top notch work! Kind staff!
I needed some expert advice about fuel delivery. Chuck gave me 2 great ways to fix it. I trust chuck in every way when working on my car.he did a great job thanks again chuck
AAA used this service. Claimed that my car was getting towed therefore left the scene and their base did not call me back. There was no other tow truck. Did not apologize and continues to be very late.Do not hold your breath when you get this towing company.
My husband just waited for FOUR HOURS for a tow truck that NEVER SHOWED!! It was 20 degrees out! Luckily, a friend with car knowledge drove by, saw him, and stopped to help. Barnes was contracted through Triple A and he was consistently told the tow truck was on his way (which is why he waited, thinking that if he left, they would show up). He even got the number and called Barnes directly and they told him 20 minutes. They just did not show up! What jerks!! If you dont have time, say so!! Ugh. Four hours is absolutely ridiculous! So upset!
Absolutely terrible experience. When I have a car towed to a dealership for repair I would expect the tow truck driver to notify the dealership the car is there. Instead of telling anyone the car arrived, the driver left the car in the farthest corner of the dealership and just left the keys in the car and the car unlocked. I called and expressed how unhappy I was and was told I would receive a call back with a resolution and never recieved a call back. I would never recommend this towing service to anyone. Absolutely terrible customer service and the tow truck drivers have no respect for customers property.
Took him a $200,000 car for repair, he absolutely promised me that it would not be kept outside in the rain. He lied to me, it was kept outside in the rain. He also installed a brand new engine and upgraded the cam, engine locked at 1100 miles of use, hung up on me when I called to try and figure out what happened to this engine and said and I quote something is wrong with you. these are facts, Wow, read his reply, he is blaming me for his incompetence, classic. This car was driven with caution for 1100 miles and not raced after he installed and upgraded the cam. maybe if he was a professional the way he claims he would have recommended upgrading the fuel system to be compatible with the cam he recommended and installed. But again its my fault, OK, and the car was kept in the rain, the rain drop stains on the car now prove that, and other negative posts on here claiming the same, Keep in mind the owner of barnes also owns a used car dealership, no stigma there of course, because all used car sales people and dealer owners are super honest and overall good people. Regardless of how difficult of a customer he claims that I am, the facts remain the same, I was a customer, he installed a brand new crate engine, he upgraded the cam and the engine failed on an engine Barnes said is nearly indestructible when built properly his words, period
Customers Beware!!!! If your car is being towed thru AAA, the tow truck driver & Barnes Auto tow & truck in Arlington Heights are running a scam! The tow driver gives you a 5 star service. He goes on and on about how nice, honest, good fair prices & they wont charge you for repairs that are not needed. I was told the diagnosis would be $232.00. When I arrived Chuck the owner said it was 282.00. I asked him why he stated I had to do a little more e extensive work I asked him, If that was true, why didnt you contact me? He said I shouldve called him . I the went outside to ask the tow truck driver, why did you refer these people to me? They are scam artist & youre working with them. The driver gets a kick back, for convincing the customers to have there cars there for repairs. Then your car is there and you re subject to whatever charges, they feel to charge you. The owner is rude, unprofessional & sheisty. The office helpers are followers(cant make a decision without him.) When I questioned his business practices, he said he wouldnt release my car until I paid the 282.00 & he would call police. Because he didnt like my tone. They only work on old school vehicles. He says Ive been in business 35yrs & I said thats why it supposedly took you 4 hours to diagnose my battery issue. To make this story short! He didnt know what he was doing & wanted to charge me 1000.00 to replace battery sensor plus diagnostic. A grand total of &1300.00. Please do not go there! I wish Id checked reviews 1st! There market is for old restored cars.Beware!!!!!!
I had my Jeep towed to Barnes upon the recommendation of Advanced Engine Re-builders. The tow truck driver who arrived to pickup my jeep was probably the worst tow truck driver Ive ever seen. He didnt seem to be able to line up straight on my vehicle and would have dragged it sideways if I hadnt stopped him.Barnes diagnosed my jeeps problem correctly but the quote was more than I could afford!
Very good service and knowledgeable staff
Little bit of everything, friendly staff.. Excellent prices
Honest and hardworking people! They take the time to make sure your car is fixed properly.
I have only good things to say about my experience at Barnes. I know virtually nothing about cars. He patiently explained to me what the issues were and how he was going to address them.
The original dispatcher was annoyed (with me for calling?) but I let it go and was told it would be about 2 hours for a tow. 2 1/2 hours later when I called back, Debbie (thats what she SAID her name is) was incredibly rude. I explained to her that I was going through AT&T roadside assistance and had never been asked for the make/model of my car - just my phone number and the address where I needed assistance - and needed to check on the ETA of the driver. She was asking for car info that I had never given to the previous operator - when I tried to explain that to her - that me giving her the info now wasnt going to help her cross reference as I had NEVER been asked for it to begin with - she asked me what I expected her to do. I then questioned her customer service skills (she had such a bad attitude) and she then informed me that I was welcome to get towed from somebody else. When AT&T (Barnes is their vendor in this instance) called on my behalf theAT&T operator was told by a manager that they refuse to tow me because I went off on one their workers. WHAT? Talk about lousy customer service and a company who doesnt need your business. Just think, I was only going to have my car towed by them, imagine the nightmares one would have if they were actually going to fix your car. YUCK! I would tow my car via a rope by my teeth before I would ever call this awful company......
I was very pleased with the performance of this shop, I took my Mercedes-Benz to them to fix the convertible top they gave me an outstanding price, great customer service, I would highly recommend my family and friends to go here
So one of the work trucks breaks down .Power steering belt. Called AAA .they send Barnes towing .The guy was having difficulty from the start .As hes pulling up the inclined bed the cable snaps .I had to jump thru the window and try and stop my van as it rolled accross Arlington heights road. Thru 4 lanes of traffic .And finally got it to stop by rolling up two curbs and putting it into parkThe driver cones over. Asks if we can move it out blocking traffic! Uh. No .He leaves .just leaves and says .we have to send a bigger truckIf you have to use AAA .make sure they dont send this butcher outfit.Am now having truck checked for damage and putting ice on my shoulder and ankle that I twisted .Stay away from Barnes towing
Very helpful and professional!
Barnes Automotive has fast service and courteous tow truck drivers !!THEY FIXED MY CAR RITE.
I experienced the worst customer service on January 14, 2016 from Barnes Automotive. My car stalled at the Walmart parking lot, so I contacted AAA for a tow. AAA assigned the tow to Barnes Automotive. After waiting three hours in the Walmart parking lot for a tow, I contacted Barnes Automotive for an estimated time of arrival. Barnes Automotives receptionist answered the phone by saying Hold on a sec and immediately placed me on hold. When she returned to the line, the receptionist placed me on hold four more times within less than three minutes. After waiting three hours, my patience was wearing thin, so I told her not to place me on hold again and where is my tow. She could not give me an estimated time of arrival and tried to place me on hold again. At that point, I asked to speak to her manager.Paul, the manager on duty, took my call. I was in the middle of explaining my experience with his shop when he interrupted me. When I told him that I was not done explaining what happened, he said It does not work that way and hung up on me. I called him back and asked if he hung up on me or did we get disconnected. Paul said he did hang up on me. I admit that I was upset. However, I have worked in customer service in the insurance industry. I have never hung up on a customer. Paul continued to hang up on me as I tried to express my concerns about Barnes Automotive poor service. Finally, he decided to stay on the telephone. Paul said he was cancelling my tow and that AAA would need to assign another towing company. AAA did assign another towing company, but it took another three hours for them to arrive from South Barrington.Barnes Automotive is a horrible company that is poorly run and has rude employees, especially Paul, who should be fired immediately. Never go to Barnes Automotive.
I have never worked with a place that had such little respect for its customers, the ones paying your pocket! I unfortunately had the opportunity to work with Barnes Automotive about 7 months ago. During that time I brought my car in to be repaired as it had to be towed and the closest place for the tow was there. My car was fixed or so I thought.About a week ago the same issue occurred that had (what I thought) been fixed. I brought my car back in to Barnes because it was under their warranty( a 45 min drive to them with three children) to sit for two hours and for them to tell me that my car was not having the issue I had brought it in for. I asked what they recommended and Chuck informed me that he would have to drive it around and see if it would act up. I had my husband leave work early to come pick my family and I up. We did not have room for our stroller in my husbands car with everything we had (babies and kids have a lot of stuff) and I asked if I could put our stroller back in my car since they were keeping it. I was told that they would put it back in for me. How nice right? I added in since they were keeping my car, could they do an oil change for me? Of course, no problem, we will add that in. How nice again right?Several hours later, I get a call from Chuck with of course bad news, informing me that he felt as though my car had an interior issue and that for them to even look at it, it would be a base cost if $1800. I said no and discussed that we would be picking up my car that night. After finalizing with Chuck about picking my vehicle up, he informed me there was a cost of over $200 for just looking at my car and putting fluids in my car. His words were I want to break even. Being displeased with this cost, but understanding where he was coming from we paid for it and left to pick up my car. We arrived at 615pm one of their tow truck drivers was just pulling in as well. I got in my car and the check engine light was on.... Hmm weird that wasnt on when I dropped it off 8hrs earlier. I asked the guy there about it and he said it might just be on from sitting there, let it run for 20 mins and it should be fine. Im very trusting so I drove the 45mins back home and it stayed on the whole time. We arrived home only to look at our receipt and see that no oil change was done and our stroller was not in our car! Completely distraught over everything that happened that day I called Barnes to hopefully just leave a message. I actually spoke with a tow truck driver named Dennis who was incredibly nice and actually felt bad for my situation. He said for me to call in the morning and that they would arrange a drop off for the stroller because of the inconvenience. I thanked him for his empathy and called first thing this morning. I left a message for Chuck to call me back.Chuck calls back. I inform him of the check engine light being on in my car and he said, well it wasnt on when I parked it, so I dont know how a car can do that in that time. He added that I would have to bring the car back in to have him check why the indicator was on. I was furious because it wasnt on when I left it and now this would mean another drive back to them. He quickly moved on to the stroller issue and said so I guess there is an issue with you not having a stroller or something? I said yes, I had asked to put it back in my car before we left and we were informed that they would put it in for me. His response was well Jackie thought that the car wasnt going to be done until today so thats why it wasnt in there. I said, well thats all well and good but it wasnt our fault that it wasnt put back in there and I was informed that you guys would set up someone to drive it out to my husbands work. Chuck said he was not going to send a tow truck to drop off a stroller that he would make Jackie do it on her own time. I said that was unfair to make her do that. He said to me, well I have cars to work on and strollers are below my job discription and hung up on me. Lack of compassion and a total jerk!
Barnes was great and I loved the staff and quality of work they do.
This is the first review I have ever written. I took my frame off restored Chevelle to Chuck because a friend of his recommended him to me. I was told Chuck Barnes was a Chevelle expert because he owns 5 Chevelle show cars. I took my car in for some work and he left my car sit outside with a cover on it. The paint popped near the rear window due to the moisture that was trapped under the cover while outside in the rain. I told him about the damage and he said it would have happened anyway. Incredibly enough, I still took my car back to him again. I was in disbelief when I drove by on a weekend and my black Chevelle was sitting outside again. This time it had no cover on it. I was so upset I told one of his tow truck drivers I wanted my car now. The car had dried leaves stuck in the doors and hood. I had to replace the chrome hood pin screws because they where rusted. I also have baked on rain drops in my paint that have to be buffed out. I have over a $1000 in damage to my car. When his friend asked me this Spring what I thought of Chuck, I told him what happened. I told him I was thinking about writing a bad review about Barnes Auto. He asked me to hold off until he spoke with Chuck. About a month ago he spoke to chuck about what happened to my car. I was told Chuck was going to call me about the damage to my car. He never called. I wanted to give Chuck a chance to make it right. I knew that Chuck also owns a body shop and had the ability to make it right. TRUST is a big thing for me, I dont trust Chuck Barnes and Barnes Auto. If you have a muscle car that you care about, please think twice before you take it here. I wish I would have NEVER heard of Barnes Automotive.
Driving on south bound 294 Saturday 6/25/16 @ 4:45 pm I was cut off by your tow truck. A couple miles later on 294 he was tail gating me so that all I could see was just the grill of the truck. You would think someone driving a tow truck would have more common sense being in that line of work not to mention your company name is so visible on it.
Absolute joke. Waited for 3.5 hours for a tow that never showed up. Allstate really dropped the ball on working with these clowns. Stay away!P.S. the lady on the phone is incredibly rude!
Worst experience ever, waited forever to show up, dropped the car somewhere else, horrible service, shouldnt be in the business.
Second time left stranded by them they are 0/2
Very bed service. Drivers the broke the cars. Unprofessional service. Never ever use this company.
I took my F350 diesel to Chuck and they fixed my problem right away, Highly recommended
Best repair shop around
Great service
