Made the trip up to Asbury Park to check out a Fender American P bass. This is seriously my new favorite music store. Worked with Chris who is a great guy and very knowledgeable. Laid back atmosphere and no pushy sales tactics. Decided on the Miami Blue P bass. Got a great price on a trade in and then they have a repair shop in there so the technician lowered the action a little and put some great sounding flats on it. Awesome buying experience...5 stars.

Zach made my first trip to Russo the best experience Ive ever had in a musical instrument store. He was incredibly knowledgeable, accommodating, and polite.Outstanding customer service aside, Russo has a phenomenal selection of products. In less than an hour, I was able to try hard to find pedals, a vast range of guitars, and amps I dont see every day.10/10, will be back. And keep Zach there! Also, major props to whomever designed your logo

SHORT VERSION: Exceptional all the way around. Wish I could give 6 stars. Zach is awesome to deal with; Pat is a superb guitar tech and a great guy as well. Detailed version (IMHO) is worth reading - or just go to Russos and you will be happy that you did!DETAILED VERSION:INTROBuying a new guitar should be an enjoyable experience, especially for those of us who are not professional musicians. After all, you are spending your free time and discretionary money on a hobby. If you are not having fun, why bother? Getting a guitar at Russos was not a purchase, it was an experience.ZACH (sales person)From my first phone call Zach was absolutely cool to deal with. I could tell instantly that he was a musician who just happened to be working at a music shop as opposed to a salesman. I was very excited as I was moving up from a beginner acoustic guitar, and I really felt Zach shared in my anticipation like I was talking to one of my music buddies. Although I did have an idea of what guitars I wanted to try when I got to the shop, based on my conversations he gave me a well selected array of wonderful guitars to try out. Not once did I feel any bit of sales pressure. Zach is extremely knowledgeable and was very helpful. Both of those are understatements. And as long as I wanted, I literally had the room without any rush at all. And after actually getting my guitar (Ill leave you in suspense for the moment of what guitar I selected) Zach stays in touch and is just as friendly and helpful.THE GUITARS ARE JUST DIFFERENT HEREOk, I am aware that to varying degrees among manufacturers, acoustic guitars each have their own individual character; and sure they will sound a little different in different rooms, etc. BUT... prior to going to Russos, I had tried several guitars at a larger well known music store, in their humidity controlled acoustic guitar room. NONE of them sounded nor played as nicely as any of the ones I tried our at Russos, nor gave me that wow factor feeling. Zach told me that each guitar that comes in to their shop is checked out and run through the guitar tech before hanging up on the wall. You can certainly tell the difference.VIBESome places just have a cool vibe, and some dont. Russos definitely does. It just looks and feels like what a music shop should, and you sure do feel like a kid in a candy shop when you stroll in! Friends of mine who go there have said the same thing - theres such a cool vibe there. My wife, who does not play an instrument, commented on how much she liked the place and actually enjoyed going there with me. The acoustic room is particularly cozy, sectioned off for both a little quietness and definitely to control the humidity.PAT (guitar tech)Once I selected my guitar, Zach brought it right over to their guitar tech, Pat. He went over the guitar for several minutes, then brought it in to me, introducing himself and asking me to play it a bit and let him know my preferences, playing style etc. He adjusted the set up again a bit and I left with a guitar that was amazing to begin with, but even better by the time I left! Pat is also just a genuinely great guy and shared in my excitement for my new guitar. Subsequently, I had him do a little work on my old beginner Yamaha guitar - new strings (he suggested String Joy for this guitar), and replaced the cheap plastic saddle & nut with bone & setup. He did an incredible job! Pat definitely maximized the potential out of it! Sounds like a whole new guitar. And as he hung around a bit I could tell that he was excited & took pride in his work, even if its only on a beginner guitar. And as I had now been playing my new guitar for a while, I asked if he would mind & had the time doing a slight adjustment to the action - off he went to the bench, then back to make sure I liked it - and its EVEN better (well, as suited to me of course) now. I couldnt ask for better work.WHAT GUITAR DID I SELECT??????A beautiful Martin D-35. And a great memory of when I got it.Len

Russo was one of the few places that had stock of the guitar I was looking for. Although I didnt have any direct experience with them, I placed an online order based on the large number of 5-star reviews. I can say that they lived up to the hype. I placed the order on Sunday night and had the guitar in my hands by noon Tuesday. The guitar, price, and shipping was exactly as advertised. Communication was also terrific. I would certainly do business with them again.

Covid has changed so many things. There is a yearning for normalcy, even if it’s a new version of our old normal. I purchased a used arch top guitar from Russo Music in Asbury a while ago and was blown away by the shop. The instruments they have are amazing. My 11yo daughter loves this shop. She’s learning both guitar and bass and often asks if we can go look around at Russo. We have never felt rushed, ignored, or pestered by the staff here. They have all been incredibly knowledgeable and patient enough to explain things to myself and my daughter. We were in Asbury yesterday to get some fresh air on the boardwalk when the kid asked if we could swing by the guitar shop. When we got there, the doors were locked but someone quickly came and asked how he could help. We explained that we wanted to look around but just noticed the sign stating we had to schedule a visit. Luckily the shop was empty so we were allowed in. My daughter took a quick spin around and on our way out I noticed a used Bassbreaker amp. I was told they just got it in. It was priced fairly but was a bit out of my price range. Then they mentioned that there was a Black Friday weekend sale going on. I took my wife out to brunch in Asbury today and just so happened to bring the amp up over drinks. We swung by Russo afterward and the Bassbreaker became my Christmas present. The kindness of the entire team at Russo is greatly appreciated. The protocols they have in place to protect the staff and customers from Covid is greatly appreciated. Would I prefer not to look at their guitars through foggy glasses? Sure. Would I want to be subjected to getting sick? Absolutely not. The day will come when we won’t have to wear masks and socially distance ourselves. Until then, I would like to thank Russo Music for being concerned with everyone’s wellbeing. May everyone there have a happy and safe holiday!

As a bass player, Im quite jaded with the music retail industry in general, and strongly dislike stores like SamAsh and Guitar Center due to their lack of selection and a generally unwelcoming vibe in their stores. I was going to buy directly from Sweetwater, but I like to demo my gear before buying it, so I figured Id go to Russo Music for just that.Turns out, they have great customer service at both locations and made the demoing process so smooth and enjoyable for me by being friendly and helpful, that they earned my business. I highly recommend taking the trip to either location as you wont be disappointed by either the people or the gear.Fair warning to my fellow bass players though: they are not a Warwick dealer, so call first if youre looking to get a Warwick to see if they have a used one in stock.

Amazing selection, especially acoustics when it comes to the asbury location which i love. lots of high end guitars as well as some good mid range priced ones too. The quality far surpasses other shops and nothing is chipped, cracked, scratched, etc like at guitar center. The techs are much more knowledgeable too. Only downfall is they only give you 50% trade in value for your gear, so thats why more people do trades at guitar center. All in all its a cool place to play around and pick up a new guitar to add to the collection.

My wife made me buy it which was a first.. I couldnt tell her I had just bought a used one the night before. So I Left $300 on it & left it for months. They let me use credit for a few setups & a repair after restocking fee which was more then fair. Ive seen how they check out all their new inventory with a fine tooth comb . Nothing hits their floor without it being perfect. Very impressive inventory & staff. Im spoiled I can walk there in 5. min so I tend to wander in there a lot. I have bought several new Gibson and Taylor acoustics from Scott Engel. I have also traded in a few guitars, and have had set-up work done. This shop is a treasure. I have always received fair prices on trade-ins (less than what I could sell privately), but they always made the new guitar price attractive. If you are a Gibson fanatic, this place is Nirvana. They know their stuff, and the inventory is fantastic. With all the guitar trading I have done over a decade, the ones that remain in my herd are the ones I have bought from Scott.I only wish they were closer than an hour away for me. But maybe its a good thing they are not....Honest friendly staff, Gibson knowledge unparalleled, and pricing that is pretty fair. Yeah I want these guys around. AWFUL! Do not do business with them. Brought my guitar in to be appraised. They gave me a written appraisal for $1700.00. Four days later I was sent an email that the guitar needed $1500.00 worth of repairs in order for them to sell it??? They informed me that the guitar was ONLY worth $200.00!!! Obviously someone was interested in buying it, like Russos, for a low end price and figured they would lie to me and tell me that all of a sudden it was in terrible shape. They were dishonest from the start and are horrible business people. Why give a written appraisal and then inform me by email that it had changed. If they were good business people they would have stood by their appraisal. AWFUL!!!

Russo Music is a godsend in the cold, cruel and soulless era of the Guitar Center evil empire. Since the demise of Mannys, Rudys and Music Row, Russo is far better than any store in Manhattan today.Their sales staff is friendly, helpful and accommodating (no stink eye or clock watching if you want to play an instrument). They sell only quality instruments, from vintage, to premium brands and boutique builders, to first rate modest/beginner models. Their pricing is the same as anything you will find on the internet, but you get the huge advantage of being able to play and hear the exact instrument before buying it. But the best part of Russo is the repair/maintenance staff head by Scott, a true luthier with a passion for his craft. They take time to discuss your preferences and playing style before doing the work, even on a simple set up. Cannot recommend Russo enough.
