The staff were great and the location is nice. I got a plain old coffee and it was okay, Ill bet they are better as espresso than coffee, but the name says coffee, so... My wife got a breakfast sandwich that she liked a lot too.
I have been to majority of the specialty coffee shops in metro Atlanta and I have to say this is my go-to! I love the neighborhood feel of their new location. And that egg sandwich is phenomenal
The coffee is amazing and the staff is super friendly. I recommend letting the Barista surprise you with a drink (this is an option on the menu). The location is great as well.
Amazing shop. But what makes it amazing is Connan (the owner.) Not only are his skills behind the bar incredible he is a good person.Academy is hands down my favorite shop.Currently, Connan uses coffee from Onyx which you can also purchase in the retail area. I usually ask what he’s serving as far as origin and try to taste the coffee notes. Normally, I wouldn’t do that but because Connan knows exactly how to bring those notes out it makes my cappuccino even more enjoyable.I would highly recommend going to visit as soon as you can. In addition to espresso based drink you can also find other creations that aren’t coffee based.I the last time I went in I was also able to snag a pastry. Usually, they are sold out by the time I make it in. The croissant I had was quite good.
Great specialty drinks - Connan is one of the best baristas ever. Worth a visit if traveling or long-time resident.
Its the best coffee, dont waste your time going anywhere else.
Gorgeous inside. Matcha is TOP NOTCH. So pleased this has arrived in the highlands! Nice folks too!
Best coffee in town. I had the pleasure to speak with the owners and their passion for coffee, and dedication to sharing that passion with their customers, is something special. Get the cortado and prepare to have your mind blown.
The opening of Academy Coffee in Kinship in Virginia Highlands is a super exciting addition to Atlantas specialty coffee scene. Not only do they serve exceptional espresso-based drinks (espresso, flat white, etc), they have a range of innovative, seasonal drinks that smash together mixology and third wave coffee & tea (flat white with bay leaf & olive oil? iced latte with chamomile and habanero honey?). Delicious. They are also a multi-roaster cafe that is sourcing coffee from some of the best roasters in North America (e.g. Onyx) and some more exotic coffee varieties (e.g. Pink Bourbon, Gesha etc.). If exceptional specialty coffee is your thing, you owe it to yourself to visit!
Academy Coffee is everything you could want in a coffee shop. Super laid back vibe, a comfortable open seating area, a little coffee bar where you can sit and watch drinks being made, some really delicious sweet & savory pastries, some really interesting homemade reductions & extracts, but most importantly Connan, the owner and barista. Connan is a master of his craft and truly creates the perfect cup of coffee. My only negative with Academy is that it’s too far away from me, I need it closer!! Allow Connan to make a “surprise me” for you, because you won’t be disappointed!
This coffee shop has become part of my daily routine! Not only is the owner a skilled barista when it comes to coffee staples, hes created an amazing menu of cold beverages that you wont find anywhere else. My favorite drink is the Jitterbug -- a cold brew beverage with orange and ginger beer. Great location on the beltline and exceptionally friendly service.
The shop is very cute, parking wasnt hard at all. The barista was perfect! She knew what she was doing and it showed. They make all the syerps so there were couple of combinations that I havent tried (Ive tried everything or so I thought) that was off the chain! Rose And mint? Bomb! guinness and vanilla? Bomb dot com!
I recently started coming here after relocating for my job and its so good! Whoever has been taking my order has been very helpful and friendly to me as a new customer. They seem to be dedicated to social distance and safety; theyre currently only doing curbside orders at a table outside their front doors. Its much appreciated!
Top 3 coffee shop in ATL. Probably the most creative coffee shop in the city, interested in who else stacks up. Connan did a riff on an Americano that Im still thinking about, Im not even going to lay out the recipe here that would be cheating. Their specialty drink menu (8-10 beverages) rotate every season outside of the classics.
A brand new coffee shop next to Krog Street Market, Academy Coffee is warm and inviting. Barista and owner Connan is well versed in his craft, always taking time to answer my questions. The coffee and tea is of a very high quality (George Howell Coffee Roasters, East Poll Coffee Roasters, Rishi) and prepared perfectly. You should definitely stop by of you are walking down the belt line.
Love this place! Amazing coffee and espresso drinks and truly a family owned and operated small business.
One of the most favorite coffee shop from my list. When I was here for any purpose I never miss to stay here. They have really good mannerism and friendly!
Easily the best coffee shop in Atlanta. The quality of the coffee/tea, the creativity and uniqueness and the menu, and the awesome staff are unmatched! Great for studying or meeting up with friends, but convenient enough of a location (with parking) to grab and go.
Love stopping by and seeing ‘The Dude’Coffee to him is a craft, and you can taste the difference each cup.Competitively priced, offering a superior product. You’ll never go back to chain coffee after.
Best coffee shop in Atlanta. Very excited for the upcoming location!
One of the best coffee spots in town. This place is one of the best coffee spots in town. The baristas are amazing. Have been here multiple times but yesterday I told the barista to surprise me with a iced coffee drink with maple syrup flavor. That was hands down the best iced coffee Ive ever had in my life. The only downside of this place is that it is a little hidden and it doesnt have proper parking. theres a many times that I wanted to come here but I have to go back because I couldnt find parking.
If I could give this place more stars, I would.Come in here for delicious coffee and other refreshments made by a master, Connor. The environment is welcoming, and youll find quick friends with the regulars & staff.A review cant do it justice, just get over there and try it. I recommend the stuntman
Good coffee, for the price I really wanted a great coffee. Felt that the $5 cappuccino only had one shot, but would have liked a two-shot cappuccino for that price.
Great coffee and great conversation with the owner! Truly a family affair - my cortado was served in a handmade cup his father made for the shop. Will definitely be back next time Im in Atlanta.
This place was awesome. If you enjoy coffee, and havent tried this place yet youre missing out.The concoctions were delicious and the company was inviting. My wife and I were lucky enough to get the opportunity to sit and chat with the barista for 30 minutes or so after she finished making our drinks. She was nice enough to teach us a few things about making an espresso drink.Hopefully youll get lucky enough to have the same opportunity. If nothing else, youll at least get some good coffee.
Oh my goodness is this place great. The Irwin Street Market has a wonderfully quirky interior. Academy Coffee regularly rotates out unusual and interesting latte drinks and they have all been delicious. This place is quiet, the bakery they currently have, Galette is DELICIOUS (those bourbon scotch chocolate chip cookies!) and the baristas are very pleasant and friendly.
Excellent coffee! My wife and I went with the surprise me coffees which were custom made by the barista given what we like/dislike in our coffee drinks, and the result was superb. Check them out!
Great atmosphere for getting work done or having a conversation with friends! Coffee is incredible!! Coffee is incredible, I got a cortado (a classic) and if you like espresso I highly recommend it!
Great coffee in a fun setting... Specialty drinks were really tasty we tried the bees knees and one with bay leaf & olive oil. Highly recommend!
I never knew coffee could be such a wonderful, artistic experience! The staff is super knowledgable and friendly, like seeing a friend youve had for years. This is my new favorite coffee house! Now to get them to open up more locations... 😏
Each drink Ive had has been super delicious and unique. If youre indecisive sometimes like me, go with Surprise Me and youll get something awesome every time. The owners pretty cool, too.
I love coming to Academy coffee. This is a great homegrown neighborhood spot in an area that is slowly becoming more mainstream (but this place keeps it real!). Connan dishes up really creative drinks and the atmosphere is really chill - a great place to spend the afternoon doing work. Bike and car parking almost always available.
The unique blend of flavors are astonishing and delicious. Connan Moody (owner) is an expert in coffee and tea. He will make the best cup of tea or coffee youve ever tasted. Definitely go out of your way to check out this shop.
I really like this coffe shop and I frequent a lot of them. Of the 5-6 near me, I only like one other one besides this one. Academy is super casual, with good wi-fi, and friendly service. They share space with a flower shop and an ice cream shop, so you can satisfy multiple cravings and it smells great. I work here sometimes and it feels very comfortable. I feel like I just went to my friends house to hang out. Looks like they serve beer also.
Beautiful space, beautiful people and the selection of coffees and teas are outstanding. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted when I walked in. However, after a lovely conversation with their owner/barista Connan he gave me exactly what I didn’t know I needed. The best coffee I’ve ever had (including in NYC) I will definitely be returning when I am back in the Atlanta area!
Visited at eight, it was not full. looking forward to coming back with my coworkers.
I love the people who work there. They are always so friendly and willing to have in depth conversations that make you feel like family. I always feel so welcome there and the beverages are the best in town!
Guy on the register was very friendly and nice when I went just before Christmas and the coffee and gingerbread donut were delicious
Best coffee in Atlanta. The owners are almost always the ones behind the counter making your coffee. Expect high-quality, homemade ingredients. Expect great coffee and tea. Then have your expectations surpassed.
Do visit Conan, beautiful place to rest while exploring the area. Delicious coffee obviously.
This place has completely ruined me. Even not having the most trained palate for coffee now I can really taste the difference everywhere I go.Now every other coffee that i have is just disappointing.
They were so kind, intentional, and my coffee was DELICIOUS!!! 10/10 recommend
Delicious drinks and unique flavors! Wonderful customer service and large workspace and seating area. Looking forward to my next visit!
Fantastic coffee made by a great staff that is willing to connect and make you feel at home in their cozy atmosphere. Try the monkey bidness!
Amazing coffee, atmosphere and awesome connections! Love supporting this small business! #shoplocal
A brand new shop next door to Jakes Ice Cream at Irwin St. Market. The owners are some of the nicest people Ive ever met, the coffee is delicious and unique, and the space (while still a work in progress) is awesome.
I had some of the most refreshing coffee here! You just have to check it out
Academy Coffee is the best! I tried the delicious matcha almond milk concoction. Great atmosphere and delicious coffee! Highly recommend!!
Wow. Best coffee in Atlanta. I had the Bee’s Knee’s with oat milk. Worth the trip. Atmosphere is transitional but interesting.
Friendly and knowledgeable service. Fantastic coffee and matcha!!
Super friendly staff! I recommend the Bouje Bubbler! It was so tasty and they even shared the recipe with me! Will be back in no time. Great space with great coffee!
Like the concept but the interior is a shared space and doesnt really have an inviting vibe. It kind of looks like a storage space with random boxes and other clutter.
Best cappuccino Ive ever had.
Connan was great, Try the Waddah Melown you wont be disappointed.
I got a cold brew, which I guess came in only one size - smallish with a lot of ice - since the barista didnt ask me what size I wanted. It was absolutely the best cold brew Ive ever had and was drawn from a tap. How cool is that?! The only thing that would have been better was if it were a nitro cold brew. I have an extreme weakness for those. It was a bit hard to find since there was no sign, but its co-located at Jacks Ice Cream on Irwin, very close to Samson (the road, not the person). Again, absolutely the best cold brew!
Awesome coffee shop! Delicious coffee, board games to play, and always excellent conversation.
Really eclectic and cool place to meet and hangout
Connan the barista is a genius. I’m not adventurous with my coffee, but went out on a limb here and wow! Must try in Atlanta. Nice ambiance as well.
Delicious and unique coffee drinks, cozy space. Will definitely be back!
Exceptional quality and taste! If you’re looking for a unique take on coffee, this is your spot!
Love this place! Its a hidden gem just off the beltline, so its way less crowded than your Krog or PCM coffee shops. My favorite thing is to get the surprise me! drink, which means theyll ask you a short series of questions and then delight you with a custom coffee drink just for you. The best one so far was a monkey business latte, which had banana and almond syrup -- something I never would have thought to order for myself. Academy has a friendly staff, and a nice homey decor as well.
The baristas are amazing! Told him what I like and Connan suggested several things off the menu that were spectacular! A true barista! The two baristas are a lot of fun!
Organic milk and a variety of house made syrups. Expresso from Ireland was available when I visited. Friendly staff.
My favorite coffee in Atlanta ran by a true barista. Anyone else is just a dirt water slinging cashier.
Great cold brew! However, the owner is very bad at ratscrew. He’s probably the worst ratscrew player I have ever met. He reeks of a bad ratscrew player. The coffee is fantastic though, and Connan’s unique take on flavors is a breath of fresh air in the neighborhood. Again, worst ratscrew player I’ve ever met though.
Always a pleasurable experience with great drinks.
Five stars all around for the atmosphere, drink selection, location and owner. Ive tried the Chai Latte with almond milk and the Matchisimo a number of times and theyre delicious!! Hands down, Connan (the owner) makes the best chai latte Ive had in the Atlanta area. I brought my husband here recently and he really liked it. Ive told a number of people I know about it because its a MUST TRY if you havent already. You. Will. Not. Regret. It!!
Best coffee served in the cutest mugs.
The best cold brew of my life!
Good coffee, thank you!
Super unique drinks, great vibe, and customer service was on point!
Very interesting drink options
Awesome coffee shop!
Great coffee, awesome people. :)
I think this place is gonna be the best coffee shop in ATL.
Best coffee in Atlanta by a considerable margin
Im not a coffee drinker and this place had awesome tea drinks. Well be back!
Best coffee in town!
They care about their coffee and it really, really shows
