The word that comes to mind is “excellent”. Excellent location. Excellent staff. Excellent selection of materials, tools, and books. Whenever I visit, the staff is able to help with any questions and almost always has multiple options for whatever it is I need. Prices are reasonable, and I’ve never felt pressured into buying something more expensive than what I need. Highland woodworking gets my highest recommendation.

They seem to have everything you’d need to work some wood. I’m not a woodworker but it was interesting to look around.

Drove down to Highland Woodworking for the first time this morning from Kennesaw because I had heard so much about them. There were 4 employees on the sales floor, and I was the only customer in the store. No one ever acknowledged me in any way. I looked around a bit, felt like I was intruding, bought 2 books and left. I wont be back

This place is terrific. I have been a customer in the store since 1980. I have purchased online with the same quality of service you get in the store. As a retired shop teacher, I can tell you there is no better store to address all of your woodworking needs. I enjoyed meeting Roy Underhill and Thomas Lie-Nielsen on their visits to the store. Im proud to have been one of the earliest customers at this iconic shop. They have energized generations of amateurs and satisfied countless professionals ( I have been both). Service here has almost always been thoughtful, helpful and well informed. A couple of incidents with employees I hadnt met before make me wonder if this fine place is getting less friendly. I bought a power tool, opened it at work, saw it wasnt what I really needed and drove eighty miles to exchange it. An employee there said the box did not contain a certain manualand I couldnt exchange the tool. I offered to buy a new booklet you cant buy them What do you suggest? You Cant return it without the booklet. The booklet turned out to be a paper handout the manufacturer routinely gives away. Waiting for my (free) booklet so I can make another trip to return a $500 tool to another one. No response to my email.......####Days later.. I called management. The problem was quickly resolved HW even arranged the return at no further cost to me.

Be aware that the Highland Woodworking retail store is closed until further notice! I should have called first; my bad, but I did a 45 mile round trip to find this out because Google said they were open. Five stars because notwithstanding this nonsense, Highland rocks.

I’ve never seen a store like this— entirely dedicated to woodworking, including many handtools. I’ve ordered things online and received them quickly. I’ve also taken classes and they were worth it, and took the entire day. I love the book selection as well.

Highland Hardware is a well known Mecca for serious woodworkers seeking the best hand tools. All of the people working there are very helpful but if he is available I recommend talking with Stanley. Dont miss the upstairs balcony for more tools. And if youd like basswood blocks for carving dont look for them in the wood room. They are in the section with the carving tools..

This is my happy place. The employees have a lot of knowledge to help with any projects you might want to start or are having trouble with. Great classes to get you into woodworking or expand your knowledge and celebrate guest for special events. This is a speciality tool shop so there is a limited wood selection and they dont sale regular nuts and bolts,etc anymore so youll have to go to ACE for that.

A good place to find supplies for all type of wood working project. The prices are good and they have a good selection of supplies. Definitely worth the trip.

Excellent service. Incredible collection of products and information. Its pretty cool to have an internationally known hardware store in our neighborhood. Anyone can surf the web site. We can walk in and see everything in person. Hand tools are my favorite but there is a wide range of power tools and accessories as well. Classes and various demonstration days and books all help improve my results at home. Im trying to learn to make guitars but in the process, Ive had to learn a number of other skills. Highland Woodworking has really helped to keep me on the right track and shorten my learning curve. Whatever your goals, they have parts, tools, classes or videos to get you where you want to go. My daughter and I had the absolute best time making turning bowls in one of the Highland Woodworking Classes. After class, we found ourselves marooned do to our car being in the shop, but the staff was friendly and shared a plethora of great knowledge with us while we waited for our ride. Tools are available at reasonable prices. The staff are knowledgeable by majority and very friendly. The shop is well put together and has anything you need in order to complete any number of wood working projects including DIY books and templates available for purchase.

Went for keys, came out with stainless steel screws and nuts for my boat. Not something found in ATL very often. Daughter needed a sewing needle. They had that, too.

Their customer service went above and beyond when I needed to exchange 2 bandsaw blades I ordered that were the wrong size. Even though I was well beyond their normal window for returns they swapped them without hesitation.OBTW, their Wood Slicer 1/2 inch Resaw Bandsaw Blade are everything they say they are. zRe-daws 8 osk like butter.

As soon as I walked thru the door I felt at home. The staff is super helpful and friendly. They have a large selection of just about everything. They also sell some hardwoods. However there price for hardwoods are about 30 percent higher than expected and for the premium price that they are asking, I wishthat they would offer thickness planning on purchased wood. I came to town this weekend to go see the braves play. We had some downtime so I decided to make the short trip over to look and see what I have watched on YouTube and heard so many good things about. Ive been coming here since I was 2 with my dad. Now I am almost 20 years old and Im still coming here even though I dont live nearly as close anymore. The selection and people at Highland make the one hour drive in from Gainesville absolutely worth it. I am so glad Atlanta has been blessed with such a fantastic hardware store like Highland for so long.

I am from out of town and went out of my way to visit such an iconic store. I wasnt thrilled with the customer service and originally gave one star. I changed to 3 stars after the owner personally reached out to apologize. What a great gesture, it leads me to believe that the experience I had was uncommon, not the norm.

Traveled to Atlanta for work,... Got a chance to look around. Would have liked more time. But still very cool place.

First off, I find it interesting that all the people with bad reviews of this store did not mention their names in the review title. Sounds sketchy at the least. Second, all stores are going to have differing levels of quality merchandise. Some things may not be as good as other things. Some things in the same genre has a much higher price tag than others, and this doesnt necessarily mean that they will function better in your very particular usage. Wood working in general is a varied and customizable industry and there are usually 10 different tools that will accomplish 10 different jobs all ending with the same outcome. Stepping into a store that is so specialized you must have a certain level of experience or knowledge to begin with. After all they are in business to make money. If customers have to be taught the ins and outs of their certain craft idea in woodworking every time they come into the store then it can become costly to deal with these situations. I have had nothing but good experiences with your store and will continue to shop here locally and online.Thanks, Luke

Excellent service. I purchased a few bandsaw blades from Highland woodworking a few years ago. Their resaw blades are great. Last week I purchased a few more plus I purchased one of the carbide tipped resaw blades. Ordered on the 9th of October, received shipping confirmation on the 10th and had received it by the 14th of October. That is shipped from USA to Australia. I just wish shipping was cheaper but for that turnaround I cant complain. The carbide blade is brilliant!

Very bad experience when trying to order a soldering tool (branding iron). I was told it was one thing, and when I received it it was not at all what I was expecting . When I called about the problem I was told it was my mistake and there was nothing they could do about it. I went to amazon and got exactly what I was looking for and at a better price. Ive been ordering woodworking tools from HIghland woodworking for years and always have been very happy with the product, service and price. They carry only tools of exceptional quality - which is why I always return.

I started doing biz with Highland Hardware back in the 80s when there was no internet. Now that I live 500 miles to the south the internet has allowed me to once again do biz with Highland. And I couldnt be more pleased. They are a first rate outfit and will prove it to anyone with one eye and half a cent worth of gray matter betwixt his/her ears. They might not be the cheapest and I for one am glad of that. Service still counts at Highland Hardware.

Ordered tools for school in January, they confirmed them, thennnn realized oops we dont actually have these so we wont have them for 2 to 3 weeks. 4 weeks later...nothin. 5 weeks later, I get one after having called them. They emailed me that theyd send them when they get them and thanks for understanding... No. I dont understand. Why is this so hard to update your site, this is your job. If I order some things Im expecting them in the time frame given to me. You dont get to order them at your leisure afffter youve confirmed. People are on a time frame. I wont be ordering from them again. Its a shame because they claim to have so much on their site with little of it in stock. Customer service, very poor.

Ive been in retail for about a decade so my number one issue with any company is customer service. After hearing such hype about this company I decided I would go by and check it out. Ive been wood working for over a year now and very excited to give them a visit. Of course I was blown away by the selection, products and sheer amount of wood working tools they have. However, I was completely dissatisfied with the service. I walked the store top to bottom without anyone saying anything to me before leaving. On this trip I was looking for a dust collection system and ended up buying it online from another company. About 2-3 days later the dust collection system arrived and I needed an additional piece for one of my hoses so I figured I would give them another shot...Again, nothing. I walked in, walked by 3 people who worked there and grabbed what I needed. I was checked out by a friendly staff member but she was the only one who acknowledged me but of course you have to when youre checking someone out.On Tuesday of this week I was out of some supplies that I normally get at Home Depot but they were out. So I said to myself, third times a charm. When I walked in a young woman was behind the counter and she said hello I was a bit shocked and said maybe things have changed?! Then a young guy asked if I needed help and I couldnt help but say YES! I was stoked to get help and only be in the store about 5. This guy was extremely helpful and found what I needed. I walked around for about 5-10 minutes admiring my next tool, Festool XL Domino Joiner and a Band Saw but like my first two experiences everyone seemed to be too busy to help. I even had 2 people walk by while I played with the demo. I wanted to chat with the young guy again about products but didnt see him so I made my way to check out.My rating is based on my last experience. If it wasnt for the young guy working In the shop that day I wouldnt give a 3 star, it would be a 1 star. You can have every product under one roof for wood working but If the service doesnt back it up, then people like myself will just buy it online from other retailers. I prefer to buy local and always have. With the future of technology and over night shipping I feel that making a personal connection is very viable in todays society. I personally want to shop here. Im eager to learn more about wood working and pursue my craft but for me I need friendly and helpful.

Excellent store and professional service. Do not buy the Woodslicer Resaw blade. Its only useful for short, under 4 resawing. I purchased a custom length for my Aggazzani 20 bandsaw and it was horrible on 8 walnut.

Called to purchase a Festool Domino XL 700 and a Rotex 150 sander. The salesmen was rude and cocky. Wanted to charge me $13.00 shipping for sandpaper for the sander. $2000.00+ order! They could of put the sandpaper in one of the boxes. Ended up buying from someone else!

Ive ordered many items from Highland Woodworking in the last 9 months and been very satisfied that I recieved exactly what I ordered / expected and always in a very timely manner. The last order I made, last month, I ordered on a Wed eve ans recieved it on Fri morning. Hard to beat that. Product quality has never been an issue. Store personel (when I make the trip to Va/Highlands) have always been friendly and helpful.

Ive bought several wood turning tools from HW, theyre shipping is prompt and prices were ok. I did get a lathe chuck and it was missing the set screws that must have been removed from the box. The customer service guy said something goofy like, they are removed to keep you from ruining you head stock threads. Anyway, they sent the screws promptly. The web site is awkward in that it has you agree that you got the right stuff. I guess thats ok, but is different from other sites. Overall I like them.

Just wanted to share a pleasant experience I had with Highland Hardware. I ordered one of their Wood Slicer bandsaw blade some time back and when I received it I tried to put it on my bandsaw but it was too long. I got aggrivated and just wraped it back up and stuck it aside. Last week I needed to replace a dull resaw blade and found a local shop who said they could cut and reweld it. The weld failed when they put it in the jig to grind the weld. I then called Highland Hardware and talked to someone there who said they could not reweld it. I didnt understand why not so I contacted Chris Bagby, the owner. Chris explained why and offered to let me purchase a new blade at a very good price that I was very pleased with. Now this old blade was over a year old (although never used, but cut). By the way, it was my fault that the blade was too long as I had misfigured the length when converting millimeters to inches (and I had told Chris this during our emails), but he made the offer anyway. You cant beat customer service like that. I will definately sent them more business.

Reputable internet retailer.(This review is based on a request made by the owner. While Im not a fan of solicited reviews, Ive had no problem with these folks. They deserve more than CAPS LOCK rants.)Ive purchased a number of power tools from Highland. Earlex sprayer, Rikon baby band saw, Steel City Planer. I went with Highland because their sale prices are good, their shipping fair, and because they have what I want.Ive had two customer service events with them. The first was when I thought the Earlex was misdelivered/lost in shipping (I was in the middle of a big project, and in a mild panic). Their folks worked with me to track down the package (ended up being a mis-scan by UPS). I was happy with how they handled the urgency. I got the sprayer in time.The second time was when the Planer arrived with a bent handle (damaged during shipping). I first tried the manufacturer, who were responsive, but a week went by and no handle (it took 3 week to get it). In the meantime, I contacted Highland. They had the handle out to me the same day. No hassle.Sometimes no matter what you do, it wont be good enough for the customer. For me, Ive had good experiences with Highland. Others might not. Thats just the way things are.

As a serious (obsessed?) hobbyist I have bought from Highland Hardware for many years. I am an avid woodturner, and I love their woodturners bandsaw blades - I have bought several over the years. I had one problem - one bandsaw blade had an incorrect weld by the manufacturer - it was not welded true and square. I called Highland, and they sent me a replacement immediately - no questions asked, and they paid the shipping. Thats all you can ask for with a vendor. I also love their Woodslicer bandsaw blades for furniture making. Ive bought from them many times, many products, no complaints.
