Nepenthe (still not sure of pronunciation) was the first stop for us last Saturday during a weekend getaway to Baltimore. We got there around 12:45 in the afternoon and were happy to see empty bar stools so we bellied right up. We were greeted promptly by both bar tenders who made us feel welcomed and answered any questions we had. The beers here are some of the best Iβve had during our travels lately! Even better is that they have a lot of options in cans to go so we could bring home back to PA and share. We will definitely come back to Nepenthe next time we are in town!
Cool brewery in Hampden. Good variety of beer styles that are delicious too. I also tried the veggie banh mi which was delicious! The only downside was that they close at 9 on the weekdays. The early close time doesnt really lend itself to conversation time with friends meeting for dinner and drinks. Having said that, Id π― come back when Im in the neighborhood.
Great beers and solid food. Food can be pricey but there are many fun fusion and unique flavors for everyone. The thick cut fries and dipping sauces are fun to share. Wednesday nights have trivia at 7:30. Get there early to grab a good seat.
Nepenthe is such a great brewery! Baltimore City currently has a 1-hour time limit for all customers (its annoying, but we canβt complain) and Nepenthe was great about it, they came by and gave us a 15 min warning. The brewery is huge and the tables are really spaced apart. The food is great, and i always love their flights!
The best bar food in the area, delicious beers, a good flight option, speedy service, wicked t-shirts.
Great service at the bar. Menu is not kid friendly, but not kid unfriendly exactly. Would be tough for picky eaters. Overall, good experience.
Surprisingly amazing food! Everything Iβve tried has been really delicious. They have a beer for everyone here! Tons of choices
Thereβs nothing not to love about this place. The beer is top notch and the food is to die for.
Good beer, cool space. I wish they had more vegan options and/or a βbuild your ownβ plant based burger prompt.
Really fun brewery! I really liked the atmosphere, there are a bunch of large tables which is great for groups. The beer was good, not my favorite brewery, but still worth trying. They have good food with vegetarian options and non-beer options like wine and cocktails for those who donβt like beer. You can go downstairs and check out the actual brewery and they also have a brew shop downstairs where they sell everything you need to make your own beer.
This place is wonderful! Weβve come here to watch lots of soccer and the beers are great, the food is so good, and the staff and atmosphere is incredible. You should go here!
Been great for the few online beer pickup orders! Interesting mix of options that change over time. Great find since moving here over a year ago.
Cool spot with interesting beer, well-done junk food (burgers, fried chicken sandos, dozens of dipping sauces) and the option to make it veg with Beyond burgers. Plenty of space to spread out (bring a deck of cards along!) and kid-friendly (we had a 6-month-old in tow). Clean individual bathrooms and a very cool DIY brewing store in the basement.
The beer was okay, I mean thats a very subjective thing. So are reviews. The specials arent that cheap even during happy hour. The flights are fun.The wings I had were not great. The sesame ginger were really lacking in flavor. The havoc wings were confusing, I thought they were supposed to be really spicy. They need to up their wing game. Rocket to Venus has better wings. My friend got the fries. The atmosphere was really cool though so I bumped it up a star.
We were sitting outside with friends, and every time people stopped to chat, staff came out and told them no standing around and no drinking their own sodas. It happened at least 3x during the afternoon. They started getting rude about it, too, remarking that i like to get paid and whatnot. Meanwhile, bartender had to ask for help making a margarita. There are much better joints in Hampden than this place.
A very cool establishment! Went for a date because i love beer and they had a cool cheap beer sample platter. Plus one of the bartenders speaks ASL.
This was a nice brewery that had food and drink. Good atmosphere and friendly staff.
Ordered the scallops special for $16 and alli got was TWO scallops, definitely NOT worth it. The grilled cheese was very greasy and hard to eat. The hostess was a little rude when I came in with my service dog and tried to refuse us. The beers are wonderful though and bartender was very helpful. If I come back it will be to order beers only.
Really cool place. Good food, friendly staff, great experience. Highly recommend.
Nepenthe is my favorite brewery in MD. Their selection is always creative and delicious, the food is worth any drive, and the staff are all well-informed, kind, and happy to see you. I cannot recommend this place enough!
Great food and beer! Loved the atmosphere. They do a great job with health precautions.
Great food (wings, fries and burger were delectable), great beer, great atmosphere. Wasnt crowded, good covid measures, and open garage door gave good ventilation and a great breeze
One of the best brewery in Baltimore. Must visit
Great time. Bar tender Jay was the best. Great visit.
Nepenthe was fun. Good beer, good food, great place.
Class A joint. Spacious (easy to maintain social distancing) Great staff. Food wasnt horrible.
Very friendly! I appreciate their COVID protocols, and how their staff were very polite and knowledgeable about the food and beer menu. The food was delicious and the beer selection was superb.
Best beer in Baltimore! Mostly IPA focused, but theres a little of everything for all types of tastes.
Very nice environment, the establishment is clearly trying to deal with covid laws and regulations. Staff was very accommodating
Best burger Ive had in a long time!I ordered the Drive Thru Burger and its the best burger Ive had in a long time! I also love the dipping sauces for the french fries! I used the curbside pick-up, and arrived exactly at my pick-up time and my food was ready and waiting for me. Great service, pleasant folks, and delicious food!
Nice place! Good social distancing. Auspex is an awesome brown ale!
Great food and drinks
Genuinely enjoyed being there. The beers were all fantastic, the food was top-notch, the service was wonderful. Theyre taking extra precautions for CoVID, and it shows. They were on top of the cleanliness.
Amazing food, great atmosphere
Spacious industrial style space with a good amount of tables. kid friendly at early hours when you want to sneak in for a beer. decent IPA selection and some awesome bar food at a good price point. Great spot!3 minutes later... Nevermind upping it to a 5 because they have cocktails too. This place rocks
This place is great. Lots of space, beautiful woodwork and art, nice employees and of course, great beer. I liked every beer I tried (6), and so did my beer-picky girlfriend. The food menu is a bit limited in variety, but there are really good options for bar food. Basically sandwiches and appetizers. They also have a really cool shop downstairs that sells Homebrew stuff. It was closed before I got there, but it looked well-stocked through the window. My only complaint is that one of my chicken wings was undercooked: very pink inside and tasted off. Aside from that one, they were some of the best buffalo wings Ive ever had. Perfectly crispy, nice and spicy, good quality meat, and what tasted like in-house made sauce. In fact, everything seemed like it was made in-house. I definitely recommend going here, and I will be back!
Great local spot to grab a milkshake IPA. The brew-shop connected to the brewery is also a great asset! Make sure to grab an order of fries.
We stumpled upon this brewery and we were floored. Loved the atmosphere and huge beer selection. I love sour beers and they sure did provide good ones! We also order sandwiches which were out of this world along with the dips for the fries. Will most definitely be stopping back here next time we come to Baltimore!
Came yesterday for drinks and some food, so this is only a review of the restaurant. I know they just opened and are probably working out some kinks, but I was pretty disappointed overall. The cocktail I got was very good (Aperita) and the beer was fine (nothing spectacular, but fine). The food was the real bummer, though - it was overpriced and bland. I was very excited about the Bangkok Dog based on the description, but none of the exciting flavors came through and it honestly just tasted like a regular old hot dog. But a $10 regular old hot dog. It didnt even come with fries or chips, just 4 or 5 small, flavorless pickle chips. Not worth it. My boyfriend got the chicken sandwich, and it was soggy in the middle and equally as bland; the spicy honey was really just...honey - and the only purpose it seemed to serve was to make your hands sticky. Again, it was overpriced at $12; it was relatively small and came with no fries or chips. I will end on a good note, though! It wasnt all bad: Yummy cocktails, good sandwich buns, the garage fries were pretty tasty, great location, spacious, and nice vibe. I would maybe try the food there one more time in a few months to see if its improved, but dont quote me on that.
Service and wings are subpar.
The beers are pretty darn good and the O Burger was delicious! Service was decent. Atmosphere was a little loud and it was a bit chilly. It if definitely go back.
Best brewery in Baltimore. Really really awesome bar food too
Great new spot. Plenty of room for friends. I got the flight and enjoyed each brew. Menu looks amazing. Tried the potato cakes and was impressed by the little bites. Check this place out!
Another fun brewery in the city. Lots of space with plenty of big tables and a really cool atmosphere. Tried four of the beers and all were good - some better than others. Bartenders were great and the service was quick. Definitely planning on visiting more often, especially when the weather warms up.
Good happy hour for the all night happy hour on Tuesdays! I tried the wing special of honey rosemary wings and they were delicious. The beers were all great that I tried with Space Jellyfish being my favorite.
Tasty food and drink. Many of the beers have a fruity profile. There are eight beers on tap currently. I like dark beers so I got the Plutonian shore milk stout. Really enjoyed that! The food is tasty, and the sauces really add a nice touch. Will definitely be back!
Went yesterday for Harry Potter trivia and the place was PACKED. Iβve been to plenty of packed bars but none that handled it as well as this one did. They were obviously overwhelmed and not expecting such a large crowd but he staff was pleasant and got food out as fast as they could and despite the line being around the entire bad when I got there I had my drinks within 15 minutes. The food was delicious and we all had a great time!
Had a lot of fun here on a crowded Saturday. They had a big selection of beer including a lot of citrus-forward IPAβs. Only took a few minutes to order and the bartenders were on point. Will definitely be coming back!
This is my new favorite place. Great food, amazing Beer and even better employees. This place has the best atmosphere. I have never purchased clothing from a place like this, until today. Cant recommend this place enough!
The brewery is very nice and has plenty of room. There were probably 50 people there and plenty of space. The beers were very good and they serve food too. We had the garage fries to snack on which were a good snack.
Baltimore has several great breweries and taprooms and this one is among them. Conveniently located in Hampden, the taproom is modern and well designed. I did like their beers although I only ever get IPAs and the food is great for this kind of environment. What I dislike about Nepenthe are the prices. The beers and food items are too expensive compared to similar options and the happy hour deals dont really cut it. Its a shame, in principle Id like to go more often.
These people that run this store are so nice and helpful and very knowledgeable! They have quality items and my boyfriends beers always turn out good because of the good quality ingredients we get from here! Wish the location was in the county but well worth the trudge into the city for us!
Great homebrew store in the basement and brewery/taproom upstairs.
Excellent beers! The space is a bit loud when there are a lot of people, and the food is only mediocre at this point... but remember: its a beer hall that happens to have food, not the other way around. The staff is wonderful and attentive.
Very friendly staff, outstanding beer selection, and delicious homemade food. The place is warm and rustic and I highly recommend it.
I had a great experience here! I was about to walk out with all the ingredients to make beer (thinking that I was ready to brew) and they kindly took the time to educate me on the what I would actually need to make beer. Looking forward to coming back with a little more experience next time!
Great variety of beer and cocktail and wine options as well. Also lots of food options! They have something for everyone in a big space
Nice environment. They serve food which is a plus. As a beer enthusiast, I was looking for more variety and the potential for education about the beers themselves.
Nice spot, good addition to Hampden. A selection of beers with a cocktail drink menu and food: both appetizers and mains. Happy hours through out the week and food specials as well.
Theyre currently under construction but accept online orders. If youre local, the fulfillment of an order is fast and theyll bring it out to you. Cant wait until its open.
Sat at the bar on an early Friday evening. Was surprised at the very limited menu. Asked a bartender what he had just served to someone that looked good, and that is what I ordered. It was not what I had seen but instead the special of the evening, brisket sliders. They were average, but they were not what I had asked and did not want to wait because my friends food had arrived correctly so I kept them. Had to twice interrupt the bartenders to get service because they were having so much fun talking each other and totally ignoring any customers. Sadly this is becoming a norm at many places. Agreed with my friend that we would not be returning.
I had started brewing and realized I was short on some ingredients. I called and found out that they were closing in 5 minutes but the woman who answered the phone told me shed wait for me to get there. Thats real customer service. Always helpful with advice as well. Thanks!
My wife and I just had dinner here for the second time. She had the brisket sliders and I had the Korean chicken sandwich; both with fries. I hadthe Pollydribbles #2 and the Porcupine Ambush; she had the Beebweepa. Everything was great. Were so happy and lucky to have Nepenthe around the corner from our house.
Nice space, good beer, meh food. Avoid the honey sauce. I got it on wings, three of my friends got it on a sandwhich. No one liked it and were not picky eaters. Food needs an upgrade but this place has great potential.
Great beer! The fries are really good. I wish you could order your burger doneness though...
Food is great. Beer is great. Also cant wait until they can get weirder with the beer choices, but excellent beer offerings for now.
Only 4 beers now but theyre all good. Wings and disco fries were great
The staff is excellent. They are incredibly knowledgeable and make themselves available for any questions you might have. Ran through the all grain brew course on Sunday and left with a good deal of confidence.
Always w favorite!
Great beer but the food has room for improvement.
Love this place! Beers are amazing, outstanding food, and the service is always great!
The food was fabulous. The beer was great. Glad your finally open. Cheers
COVID update: this is literally my most trusted dining option regarding safety.Great atmosphere, fantastic staff, a bar that has a designated spot for ordering drinks, good food, great beers and some truly wonderful art. Seriously, a friend and I just sat and drank beers one night and talked their giant three panel art thing in the back the majority of the evening.Nepenthe is totally my jam.
Dropped by for Sunday lunch. Beers on tap reflect current trends in craft brewing (e.g., milkshake IPAs, fruited IPAs, kettle sours, etc.). Tried a couple flights, beers were solid but nothing stood out as being extraordinary. Prices were reasonable. Food was rather mediocre. Brisket sandwich lacked flavor and could have used more salt. Tiger Sauce was not particularly spicy. Lamb burger was overcooked and dry. Fries were best aspect of the meal. For the prices charged for food, I was expecting better. Definitely a cool space and good vibe but youve been open almost six months so its time to step up the quality of the food.
Cute and spacious place to grab a beer, food or any other kind of adult beverage
They have excellent beer and a nice selection of food on the premises unlike other breweries that only have food trucks
Brian, brews great beer I will come back.
Great place to go for brewing supplies. Run by a nice couple making a go of a start up. They have a brewing area and once they are able to get the proper licenses it will be a fantastic space to co-brew in.
Delicious food and drink! Ive been impressed every time Ive been in.
