This is a great local bookstore where you can reliably find good reads for cheap, and donate some of your own books. The workers are always kind and will be helpful if youre looking for a particular author or genre. Im uncertain if they can order books specifically, but this isnt the type of shop you go to for ordering titles. This is where to experience the lives of books from their previous readers and grow the community book interests.
This place is my absolute favorite independent bookstore of all time. Firstly, their selection is so interesting and unlike any that Ive ever seen before. The exposure to different cultures, literary styles and ideologies is immense and covers niche pockets that I didnt even know about. Secondly their buy back system, while selective, is great and I love getting store credit for more books! Third and most importantly, their community support with their mini food pantry and fridge is so wonderful and I am happy to contribute every time I go there. Love you guys!
This bookstore is super cozy, has a wide variety of interesting books, and always has really great music playing. Be sure to skim the $1 and $5 books outside before you go in and get lost in the ceiling high shelves.
One of my favorite bookstores in the hudson valley. EXTREMELY safe COVID guidelines for entering the store. Very conscious of local organizations and others, they have a food pantry, and fridge for those who need it on their property. Great selection of new and used books. While small, you never know what you are going to find. Never had an issue finding parking near by either. Out of all the book stores in the hudson valley- Binnacle is the one I would 100% recommend.
Very nice little bookstore carrying both used and new books
Very cute bookstore! Also love what theyre doing with the beacon prison project - donating requested books to the incarcerated.
Great, comfy independent book store. I love to come here and support them.
Small but cute store neatly organized with some good finds, but found the staff to be rude.
This is perhaps the best-curated selection of books I have ever come across, and this includes the numerous bookstores I have happened upon during my past five years of residence in New York City. The cleverly selected name of this bookstore is an apt indicator of the treasures to be found inside. Any book lovers visiting the Hudson Valley should make this bookstore a must-see.
Im so happy to have this bookshop in my little city. Fantastic selection of used and new books and overall good vibes. Be sure to pop in if you are visiting Beacon, and follow their Instagram for daily book recommendations.
I made a family reservation to go the store with my four adult children. The website never said there was a four person limit on families. When I came to the store, we were told this information and one of us had to wait outside. I explained that we drove 45 min to get there and the website didn’t state this. The worker wasn’t accommodating at all and told me she was letting her boss know that she should put the “family limit” on the website (my idea). The store was very unwelcoming and the prices for used, dirty books was high. I like to support independent book stores but I will never be back to this one. I’d rather give my business to other book stores. By the way, their loss as I read about three books a week.
I LOVE independent booksellers, and I had wanted to visit Binnacle Books for more than a year. I finally had the opportunity to visit this bookstore on Sunday, March 15, 2020. I was pleasantly surprised at the large number of books on a wide variety of genres, both fiction and non-fiction. Everything from Sci-Fi, Economics, Queer Studies, the Occult, and even books in Spanish, Russian, Polish and more. Incidentally, the lovely lady behind the counter informed me they were closing for two weeks, as of Monday, March 16, 2020, so I recommend you call or Email the store before you visit. I enjoyed my first time there, and look forward to returning, as soon as I can.
It was uncomfortably warm inside, the books were not well organized. The woman working there was very kind and helpful, showed us specifically where the books we were looking for were located. Cute place to come and read kids books to little ones also
Nice little bookstore. Pleasant to go in and browse.
I am a regular customer at Binnacle, having spent hundreds of dollars there on books over the last two years. Most of my experiences there have been quite pleasant - I always buy something and have recommended Binnacle to others.HOWEVER, last Saturday I was browsing through books - innocently enough. The shelves at Binnacle are double-stacked, with one row in front per shelf and a further row in back. I have on previous occasions found relatively rare books in the back row of shelves - and on the day in question I was doing the same. The lady running the shop archly let out a Can I HELP you, sir? as if I was doing something wrong. She was further rude to me and never apologized for both embarrassing me in front of other customers and being unnecessarily hostile. To repeat, all I was doing was browsing through the shelves. It was a book store. People are supposed to browse through books at bookstores.I bought a book but the experience put me in a foul mood for the rest of the day.I will continue to buy books from Binnacle, but not if I am treated rudely again
Nice selection of used books (in addition to new books).
A great store with excellent service. I walked in (Im not from Beacon) several months ago and they were extremely helpful in recommendations. I just ordered another book from their store and again the staff was friendly and quite helpful. I love a nice, independent bookstore
What a great little place. Love their Blind Date book idea. They wrap a book up in paper with only a brief description on it. So you buy it based on that. Very cute!
I live in the next town over from Beacon and I havent been there in a while. I know Beacon has added so many new restaurants, stores etc.... I decided to take a ride there to walk around. This was the the third store I passed from where I had parked and I was immediately interested. I love to read and write. The atmosphere was great, the girl who helped me was wonderful so kudos to her! I got a book for $5 bucks where I would have cost triple that somewhere else. We got talking and she gave me some extremely helpful tips, suggestions for a particular subject and contacts. This has now become my new favorite book store!! Thank you for all your help and useful information!!
Great selection of pre-loved and new books.
Excellent little place. Its packed wall to wall and floor to ceiling with books. A little cramped for a big girl like me, but has very good deals.
Little book store, big personality. I always enjoy stopping here when Im in Beacon.
One is very lucky to have a book store like this near them :)
Small but relatively quick moving stock-- youre always sure to find something to read and if you ask, theyll order books for you or look into acquiring rarer books. Dont be annoying, but if you want, ask if they have something else downstairs if youre looking for a specific author. Young Adult books are in the kids section, and comics are by the window. Have fun! (Be sure to have a peek at the bargain shelves and bins outside, and theres a lovely donut store next door that closes at 4pm)
Small used books store. $1.00-5.00 book deals out front. French radio station playing inside, friendly store keeper who writes down all the sales in a spiral notebook and does take credit/debit cards. Very quaint. Cozy shelving area, so be prepared to be close to other patrons while perusing. Nice selection of classics and new books. Well organized and labeled sections.
Cute store, good collection. My issue was with the saleswoman, who not only didnt want to honor the sales tax rule for fellow booksellers but, more importantly, was strikingly dismissive and indifferent. That attitude prompted me to leave my personal selection, for which I would have happily paid the tax, on the shelves. A little bit of courtesy or apologetic - even fake- explanation would have been appreciated and kept me from writing this review.
Absolutely phenomenal book store, the best Ive been to in this area of the Hudson Valley. Properly curated, with a large selection on hand. Basically any book they have on display is worth a look, with what I feel are great prices. Plus the people running the place are super nice, awesome and welcoming. If I could, Id live there.
Excellent little book shop in the heart of Beacon.
Very nice little bookstore, super cozy andnice selection.
Lovely unique store with an interesting collection
All kinds of wonderful books 📚
The ubiquitously creaky floorboards are disconcerting, the shelves are overstuffed to the point where its hard to get books off shelves, and it looks like theyre about to tip over. I purchased one used book only to find that the same book wouldve cost me less to buy new. It wasnt a special edition or anything. The person working there was nice, but I dont plan on ever going back again. Ive had much better experiences, both in terms of ambiance and price, at other stores.
Awesome bookstore. New and used books - great titles. They also buy used books
A very charming bookstore, staff was friendly as well.
Good selection and prices, friendly staff.
This is what a bookstore should look, smell and feel like. Really fun store with a very interesting collection
Place was supposed to be open at 12pm its 12:40pm and no one here!
Great selection of books and the buy used books. Will definitely be back.
Pleasant atmosphere, great selection of books, and friendly assistance; however, prices are too high. Paying several times the original cost of a used book. These are not rare books that command a higher price.
Nice friendly store very helpful polite girl who works there found what I wanted
Great selection of occult knowledge, including a section dedicated to Erotica & Math
Adorable used book store on Main Street!! It fits right in and offers some sweet books at awesome prices!
I found a whole bunch of books that I liked very much at a good price
Nice old fashioned place to find a good book.
Great used book store with awesome selection
Great independent shop!
Great shop with a well curated selection! Staff is very friendly.
Cute place with cheap books!
The best
Love this place!
