I wanted to pick up some bait to fish at the pier. I waited about ten minutes for the owner to help me because he was too busy socializing with another regular. He saw me several times waiting patiently. The place is small and dark. Probably wont be going back.

This shop is a mess. Walked in and it looked like a hoarder own this business. Very dirty, unorganized and looks like a junk yard for used fishing tackles. The older gentleman is nice but this review is no reflection to him but whoever owns this tackle shop, it is a mess. If I had taken a picture of this place, it would look like a hoarder lived in it. Junk and garbage all over the place. If you think I am making this up, check it for yourself and find out I am dead on accurate on my description.

The owner is the old gentleman named CJ real nice guy gives you fishing reports on everywhere around that he knows about in general usually has pretty much all of the bait you want from Salt to freshwater and Tackle as well great dude

Im going to San Fran next year for equipment training and called to ask for fishing reports. They were very helpful and patient to help me understand when is the best month for fishing. THANKS

I came into the Berkeley Bait and Tackle Shop to get my Shimano Curado DC respooled with new line. When I walked in, I did not see anyone behind the counter until I walked up. I noticed someone was sitting down and watching TV. Upon asking the person if they can help me respool my reel, his response was “you can do that yourself”. Advising him that the line came out uneven when I tried to respool, he said that I “need a machine” to respool my line. The guy never got out of his chair to even help. Thanks for wasting my time. Complete sorry excuse of a dark hole in the wall for a tackle repair shop.

The only reason this I didnt give this place a 5 star rating is because the limited stock. What you do find there is at a far lower price than even the large corperations like Cabela, Big 5, etc. This place is old school. Lots of used equipment as well. There is no more live bait, due to the work it takes and the age of the owner.CJ the Owner is a very nice guy and I plan on getting what I can from him.

Love the place, prices are fair and CJ is always willing to share his knowledge.
