Great store for difficult to find comics. Very good service.
I love the new location. The store is a small, one room cabin, packed floor to ceiling with books. The owner is both nice and knowledgeable, and it seems like hes read just about everything. I bought a Saga Compendium there and would recommend the shop to anyone looking to make a quick stop to pick up a title or 10
This is a great spot for comic needs and whatever they dont have they will order and inform you of its arrival. Staff is knowledgeable and gives good alternatives. Its one of the greatest highlights in downtown Berkeley. I love this place!
The space is well planned out and clean. The clerks are helpful and eager to be of assistance. The Half Priced Book store next door complements this place well. This store also sells t-shirts and other comic-related miscellany so its easy to find interesting gifts. If one store could turn me into a comic nuts this would be the place.
Good comic shop. However they dont make back issue easily accessible. They are there! Just ask. But I hate humans... So the extra conversation kills me.
Fantastic Comics is well, fantastic. Theres always something interesting out and I always walk out with something
Fun crew, small store, but they have the books.
Girl at the counter needs to know how to handle comics. She grabs them by the spine and squeezes them to pick up. I also picked up 3 issues of a new book and they would only let me buy 2 giving no reason. There were still 3 issues left on the stand. Nice, inviting place, but too much open space for a comic shop unless they intend to fill it up. Can see them gone in a few years.
Ive been going here for a few weeks now. They have a great selection of comics and graphic novels. The staff has been awesome; friendly with great feedback on comic series. Everyone Ive met is really enthusiastic about comics! I also love the fact you can start a list with them and theyll hold the comics on your list. I highly recommend this place. Totally Fantastic!!
One of my favorite comic shops. Only frustrating thing is that two of the dudes who work here are sometimes comic shop guys, one more than the other. Still a great shop with a great selection. Ask about their buy 10 deal.
Great comic store thats been open a little over a year now. Owned by two brothers, both of which are well informed and provide awesome customer service. The owner has given me several issues for free just because he thinks I might enjoy them. Definitely check this place out.
Nice clean and big store and a large selection of books. I went to sell a small box of random fadder and they gave me a very good price for the lot.
Now this is what I call a comic book shop, all the latest editions, a great selection of graphic novels, plus box loads of old weekly comics. Staff were helpful and friendly too.
Great selection of cool zines and graphic novels (and of course comic books). friendly and helpful staff, without the snooty comic book guy attitude. top notch.
Great local comic shop. Staff is cool and knowledgeable, would totally recommend anyone stop in and check the place out.
I like this place. Its not too tight so I dont feel like Im about to damage something. The folks are quick to help you find something when you are looking lost and have ordered for me a few times when they were out of what I was looking for. They dont charge in advance when I ask them to get me a comic, just call when it arrives to I can drop by and pick it up.Right next to BART its super convenient to visit. Between this place and Games of Berkeley down the street I could lose my entire paycheck in a day.
Great shop with a great staff. Classics and back issues lacking but the staff makes up for it and will bend over backwards. I went in and asked for every Civil War II book, including tie-ins, they helped track them down without complaint and even ordered those they still could. I wont go anywhere else for new books or subscriptions as long as geography permits.
Great selection of comics. Miss them.
The absolute best comic book store I have ever been too. They have every comic, and a huge wall of comic books. They also have old prints, t-shirts, local artist, and collectibles. Great selection of kids comics as well as Manga. I absolutely love this store and travel to Berkeley solely for this store.
A great comic shop, advice when you need it. I hear they buy from collectors, but cant confirm. Deep collection of current titles, graphic novels, manga, history, zines and LGBT interest.
Great selection of comics, and people here are so helpful. Their recommendations are always spot on.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great location. Consistently hosts up-and-coming as well as big names in the comoc world.
Great comic shop, great selection, friendly staff!
Best comic book store in Berkeley! Helpful staff. There was a doggy
Great selection and helpful staff. If you cant find it, ask.
I found my comic store. After browsing a little I was approached and given a little help to find some new series. They staff is friendly and they have all that I need.Their computer system could be better (I would love an email when my new s***t comes in), but thats the only complaint I could come up with. They hold my comics every week and are friendly and helpful. Parking sucks...but its downtown Berkeley. Get a bike.
Great selection, if they dont have it theyll order it for you if its available. Awesome customer service!
This is not a bad store, but it does lack a few elements, and also, they can make a couple changes that would have pushed my rating higher. Love the feel of the store, it is always very organized, and the staff is always nice and helpful (they even offer 10% off for students, awesome!). They have all of the new issues, and a really good selection of TPBs. This location does lack back issues, and doesnt have the selection that a classic comic book store has.The things that I have a problem with: The back issues that they do have, which consist of a lot of issues that are still fairly new (a couple months to a couple of years old), are EXTREMELY over-priced. For example, issues of the current Amazing Spider-man series that are only a few months old were marked as high as $10.00. These items are easily still cover price or cheaper at other local shops as well as online. My second issue is their bargain boxes. I give them credit for having a bargain box, which they actually have a solid selection of back issues, most are marked 1.00 and 2.00. The problem though is, they stick the price tag on the cover of the comics. WHO DOES THAT? To a collector, that eliminates almost ALL value to even pay a dime for the book. A suggestion would to be to separate the 1.00 books and 2.00 books, and just keep them in a 1.00 box and a separate 2.00 box, and mark the FRONT of the BOX. I truly believe this would easily solve the problem and more collectors would be willing to grab a couple dozen books in one visit. Plus, separating the 1.00 and 2.00 books into their own boxes would save a lot of labor next to having someone hand tag each book.
You know its going to be a good experience in a comic book store when you walk in and theyre playing The Mountain Goats. If you join their loyalty program you get a free book for every 10 you buy.
Very knowledgeable owners. If youre a child of the 80s and/or 90s, this is the place to be!
Outstanding comic store in Berkeley. Comics & Comix bit the dust long ago. With the more recent demise of Comic Relief, the area was in desperate need of a cool comic store. By cool I mean not just in selection - because they have that - but with employees willing and able to help out with mundane and obscure requests alike. Fantastic Comics fits the bill. Its a great store. Every time we come in for a specific item, we walk out with one or two other items we didnt know existed. Highly recommended!
The only comic shop I still frequent on a semi-regular basis. Friendly staff, great selection, awesome deals, great love for the local indy comic scene, and within a block of all major public transportation.Highly reccommend!
Cool comic book store run by cool people can find the classics and new stuff here
One of the best comic stores Ive ever been to. I love it!
Mis this place
A welcoming, friendly establishment for everyone from the most seasoned indy comics veteran to the greenest rookie fresh off the Avengers film boat, Fantastic Comics has it all. And what they dont have on hand, they are happy to order for you. I have personally ordered several copies of the hardcover collection of Adventure Time storyboard artist Jesse Moynihans amazing comic, Forming, to give to friends. Its just that good. With their convenient location right downtown, mere minutes from campus (and SECONDS from BART), their academic discounts, their sweet subscription service, and their friendly & extremely helpful staff, Fantastic Comics is the only comic store for the discerning Berkeley shopper.
Not very friendly. Disappointed by their small selection of graphic novels
The staff clerks are great! Book selections as well 😁
Good selection of comics, and a shelf with some decent manga as well
Got most of the comics I needed and the one they didnt have they offered to get
Ive only been a couple of times, but every single time, Ive been able to find what I want and the staff have been very kind and helpful in recommending books.
They have a great selection and are really helpful.
Great selection, well informed staff!
Cool little comic book store. Needs more back issues
So many great comics! And they carry art mags like juxtapoz
Cool shop with cool staff. If you buy a random Funkopop and dont like it, you can trade it for one that someone else didnt like and traded.
The girl at the counter was rough with my comics and even bent the from page of one. Ive also never been to a store that 1.)Charge for bags and boards and 2.) Doesnt put the comic in said bags and boards to make sure they dont bend. If you go here make sure to take the time to make sure to secure your comics before leaving so they dont get damaged.
Very bad customer service there are better places to to go with better selection, helpful staff and parking
The best comic shop that Ive ever been to. Its got a great vibe with open space which makes the selection process easy instead of those cramped comic shops that make the selection process too daunting
Right next door to Half-Price Books is this comic book store. Unlike most comic shops that Ive visited, Fantastic Comics is very spacious, though a bit dimly-lit. As a manga reader, their manga selection is very limited, but it is very organized. The staff leaves me alone to browse, which I appreciate, because I am one of those shoppers who likes to be left alone unless if I want to ask for help. They also host events and signings here, like when Marjorie Liu and Gene Luen Yang visited. Sadly, I have yet to attend such an event here, but its wonderful to see a local comic store right by Downtown Berkeley Bart host prominent guests.
Talk to the owner Uel Carter about feminism when hes high and see if you want to support this store afterwards.
Great place great customer service
There is a fair selection of comic books, though not too many back issues shown front and center. Nonetheless, the people there are incredibly helpful for both people new to the comic book franchise or old veterans.
Trendy looking store with focus on new stuff, meh service and meager back issue collection.
They got every comic book you want
Great atmosphere and helpful employees.
Great store great staff.
Awesome comic book store!
This place is cool.
Lots of comics, obscure and hard to find if you get there on release date
Nice place
Always good comics selection
Just called and the guy was very rude terrible customer service
Helpful people, good selection
Good place, friendly
Still a fantastic place to buy comics!
