I am willing to pay$16 if they do it right but they made a goodfellas today that was just skimpy on ingredients. This is why they raised their prices to cover costs and there is also now no choice of sandwiches. I think they had an item that became too popular and they just don’t want to make them so they overcharge and underperform to discourage you ordering it. Too bad because I also shopped there but can go elsewhere to local markets. Hope they might return to form in the future

Fresh vegetables, the best Fuji apples. Well known for its wine selection. Left wall has local bakery bread.Bulk spices so they are fresh and less expensive than McCormicks.Separately owned butcher in three back has huge sandwiches but lunch only. Expensive meat. I go to nearby Ver Brugge which even has house made sausages for $5-9/lb.

Like the village market nearby but less pretentious...great spot for groceries and high quality food. Friendly people. Parking can be tough but it is worth it. Great butcher in there makes it all better!

Entering Star Grocery is like stepping back in time: a family-run grocery store that really cares about their customers. They feature local produce wherever possible, and stock many hard-to-find, high end food items from around the world.

Great produce. Good combination of typical, almost old-school items combined with more contemporary foods like a modest offering of Miyoko vegan cheese products. Nice that that there is still a bulk section especially the spice one. Everyone who works there is friendly and helpful.

Fun grocery with excellent sandwich counter and meat deli. I always feel like Ive walked into a grocery store in Sonoma or Sebastopol! Great fruit and veggies selection. Also extensive wine and spirits section. The coffee is excellent and its price is the best kept secret in the Bay!

Incredible chocolate selection, and I love their goat/sheep milk ice cream options! They have lots of healthy meal staples too :)

This grocery store is full of fun and local foods. Their mango salsa was amazing, and their fruit very fresh (we tried the apricots and blueberries). We also bought homemade halvah and salted caramels on our way out-- so glad we did! Im looking forward to the other goodies we bought.Only downside: This store is way more expensive than other specialty stores weve visited recently.

With competitive pricing on many uncommon grocery items and a great selection of items that are in many cases locally sourced this is a great place for a quick grocery trip.Staffed with friendly adults and local high school students this is a neighborhood staple. They carry lots of fresh produce, baked goods, meat, fish, etc. If you are in the area and need to pick up some food products or even basic home supplies this will be a much more positive experience than heading down the road to Safeway.

Sandwich shop inside makes delicious fresh delicious sandwiches. The rest of the market has a big selection of high quality drinks, tea, chocolate, produce, and all the basics. Great service, Im always happy to stop here when I need anything.

The meat counter makes good sandwiches with quality ingredients, but it takes forever and they act like theyre doing you a huge favor by selling you this sandwich and making you wait for it.On my last visit, the store was better stocked, organized and cleaner than Ive ever seen it. Their prices continue to be outrageous.

I have been shopping at Star Grocery for years. It is well stocked and maintained and has quality goods, especially produce, all at reasonable prices. There is a wide selection of wines and a nice meat market which also prepares sandwiches to order. I love this store.

Star on grand seems like a nice enough little store, then I met the clientele... they were pretty awful.I had 3 negatice experiences in one visit there today, a gentleman cut in line at the deli counter and when I spoke up that I was nex he mouthed off to me, then the person working the counter continued to help this other dingus.If it werent for the customers who go in there I could see myself shopping there. I would suggest just go to Safeway or the market hall... they are both in close proximity.

I love this local grocery store. No lines!Despite its size, it has whatever I need plus things I cant find at major stores such as Safeway or Whole Foods, like certain decaf teas, ginger marmalade, and white rice flower. They also carry all the basics. Their produce is always fresh and they have ripe avocados. The meat counter is another story--very small selection. This store has a long history of good will in its neighorhood, and well deserves to be patronized.

Bryan Adams sammy in the back. Ryan Adams? Whatever, its good. If I could afford to only shop here I would... Sadly, at this time I cannot. But its worth the premium, ab-so-lutely.

Cool neighborhood market offers a wide variety of foods, beverages, kitchen gadgets, etc. They also carry locally made items like the ReGrained bars made from spent beer brewing waste. No waste there! Eat beer! 😎

This is the biggest little market I have ever shopped at. They literally have everything. Good quality food, wines, meats, cheeses, desserts, etc.

In a town that contains The Berkeley Bowl and The Monterrey Market, both of which offer extensive selections of produce, this is no mean feat. Both organic and non-organic items are for sale. And where it is possible, local and seasonal items are made available. It sounds corny, but it is an perfectly-curated selection of produce.The meat market mimics the produce department. It too has a strong competitor just blocks away. But because it is compact and its selection is focussed on quality and seasonal tastes, it attracts locals who want the best food in a neighborhood setting.And it is that quality, the best grocery items in a convenient location, which characterizes Star.The rest of the store is a collection of, again, groceries that you want: fresh bread from local bakeries, top notch dairy items including a cheese selection that is curated by the same person each day, canned goods, baking goods, delicacies, pasta, breakfast cereal, a fine wine and liquor selection and a superb selection of beer, again, curated by the same person each day.So far Ive described a store that serves the neighborhood well. Despite the sometimes long lines at the register, this tiny local grocery store is enormous on quality selections and hard-to-find brands. A treasure!
