Dealing with Doug at Custom GunWorks in Bohemia, NY has been a total joy! He is responsive to emails, he calls you back fast, know his products and is very professional for a one man operation. The shop is small, organized and clean. Bill and Doug are very accommodating, professional and courteous. The store and shop are pristine and very well stocked, with reasonable prices. I had several gun smithing jobs done- one was a shortened barrel another was the removal of barrel threads to make a PC9 carbine NY compliant, and a third was the installation of a hand guard on a rifle. The jobs were completed and the final work looks as good as factory! When you deal with 782, you will deal in complete confidence.

I have known Doug for years and would only see him when I went to Campsite where he used to work. Doug is a USMC Veteran and is not only extremely knowledgeable but is one of the kindest and patient people you will ever meet. A truly descent human being! I only found out recently he opened his own gun store and I hope you will give him your business because he deserves to become very successful!

Good variety of ammo brand/caliber/prices. Gun selection is a little light, but it is a fairly small shop. They offer firearm repair/customization and transfers for ammo and firearms. They also carry various aftermarket accessories for firearms. Staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, great place to have work done on your firearm.

Excellent shop and honest people. I had bought a black powder gun here previously, and when I decided to sell it months later, Doug was honest with me and suggested private sale rather than going through him and paying the consignment fees, as I’d get more money that way. He gave me the honest answer even when it means he will get less money, and for that, he’s earned my trust. They’ve also helped me numerous times with trying to ID odd guns I’ve obtained and giving information to assist me with learning gunsmithing.

Does not know the law for picking up guns, held my gun for 2 months. Did not honor my license for identification when Govern Coumo stated it was valid. I even bought in the law and DMV statement, he would not even look at it. Lost his temper, told me to call the police. Very disappointing.

Well let’s see the Gentleman whom owns it is on hand and one heck of a guy. Its USMC Vet Owned he has been around for quite some time you might recognize him from another Gun store. Let’s say he’s knows his stuff to say the least.Well there are some fine pieces of equipment rifle wise and some really cool antique items.He does take on items for consignment.Gun Smithing again some really cool custom rifles top of the line not production. The store has ammo and quite the selection of reloading items. He does transfers and is very competitive and kind with his prices and fees and offers a white glove service.The store also does repairs and obvious custom work related and or associated with Custom Gun Smithing. This place is one of those little treasures hidden from the naked eye.Trust me you will want to meet and visit Doug he’s hands down an A-1 an a amazing Vet with knowledge know how and experience . Doug is a great guy to do business with. I love that he doesnt jack up the prices like other shops on LI. Had what i needed in stock at very competitive pricing to what the big online stores sell product for. I always prefer to do bussiness locally and Doug will get plenty more of my money...lol.

Excellent place to do business with. Got a great deal on a consignment gun, then put one of mine on consignment and it was sold in 2 weeks. Stuff in stock you wont see at your average shop (Lapua brass!), easy gun and ammo transfers and friendly help from Doug and his pup. Highly recommended.

Folks who spend any amount of time in local FFL stores have probably seen and heard rumors, straight up misinformation, high-pressure sales, gimmicky advertising, etc. Doug is one of the only I’ve met in the industry who I actually trust to always be a straight shooter (..sorry). He’s always been honest with me, even when it’s not in the sale’s best interest. That, and the desire to support a local brick-and-mortar business, are what brought me to 782, and and why he’ll always have my business. My handful of visits and purchases at the shop so far have been unsurprisingly good, and it’s been a pleasure to meet Bill as well.

Great guy. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Went with a broken gun Saturday 1 hr before they closed. Needed the gun for a shoot Sunday. Doug stayed late and got it all straightened out for a very fair price.

Havent been here yet, but I called and asked about a custom build. The guy answering the phone said hed pass my number on to the gunsmith. Expecting not to hear back, as with most situations, I kept looking. To my surprise, the gunsmith called me back on his personal cell, and talked to me for 20-30 mins about what I wanted, what he recommended, pricing, et cetera. Mind you this is all outside of business hours. These are people who pride themselves in their work. Once I get my ducks in a row, I will definitely be spending a good amount of money here.
