Some friends of mine referred me to this shop because of Magic Cycle’s expertise and popularity in the area. I brought in a couple of used bikes for tune ups and replacement parts. The entire process took about two months. The information in my repair ticket was lost for a number of weeks, management/employees never called to update me on repairs or completion, and staff repeatedly commented on how cheap the bikes were all 4 times I went to the shop. Overall, I only paid $145 for two tune ups and a replacement part so I figured I could let the rest go.I took the bikes on our first outing today, and the breaks on one of the bikes don’t work AT ALL. So if you are in need of any bikes repairs, I would not recommend wasting your time here. And if you’re new to biking or mountain biking, you’re definitely not welcome here.

We rented downhill bikes from MC at their Sugar Mountain, NC location. They are right next to the lifts so access to the trails a piece of cake. The staff helped us out with everything we needed. The bikes they rented us were high quality and rode like a dream. This was our first time trying downhill mountain biking so the staff made sure we knew what to expect and explained it all to us. It was a great experience for us and I highly recommend MC. We range in age from 17 to 50 and all had fun.

The guys working the shop downtown were incredibly kind and helpful. They helped our family find good quality and well priced mountain bikes, and explained everything for my boys and I. They even installed the bike rack onto our car in the rain- with a smile. We appreciated the employees very much and had a wonderful experience!

Excellent customer service and professionalism. Weve visited this shop multiple times recently purchasing two bikes and several parts. Each time the experts at Magic Cycles met us outside to accommodate our health circumstances and were extremely kind and helpful. Highly recommend this shop and will definitely be a repeat customer next time in the high country. Thanks Will and team.

My husband and I visit NC every year. This is our favorite bike shop for many reasons. Great bike mechanics who have even helped us while on the trail and we have received fast bike repairs at the shop. The employees have given us very accurate trail advice that we really appreciate. Magic has good bike accessories To select from. We were lucky this year...we arrived right after they got the 2020 bike jersey shipment in. Had both of our sizes. Who ever designs their jerseys does a great job !!! Thank you for all of your great serviceConnie and Rob.

My boyfriend and I went in this shop today, as we walked in we were not even acknowledged. There were only two employees, and not even a hello or ask if we had any questions. We did not feel welcomed at all. I never leave bad reviews, but feel as if you are African-American this is not a place you should spend your money.

My son saved all his money to buy a mountain bike and we found one at Magic Cycles this past Saturday. We came back today to buy it. We drove from Winston-Salem, I took off work. I had called to confirm that the bike was still there. We walked in to buy it and they brought it out. Once they brought it out, they realized that someone had put a deposit down the week prior, which means it wasn’t available to buy. It is very upsetting to see how hard my kid worked and then see his excitement to buy the bike move to absolute disappointment. This is very unprofessional. It is ridiculous that with today’s technology, they couldn’t figure out that the bike wasn’t available to sell. I have never been more upset with a business than I am with this shop. I would not recommend shopping from this store. Absolutely terrible.

Came in while passing through town today to replace some parts damaged in a crash. Staff was extremely helpful and went out of their way to get me back on the trail. Very knowledgeable team and very attentive to details like letting me use their bike wash, brushes and hose before throwing my bike back in the suv! Cant recommend highly enough. Recommended a great local trail I wouldnt have tried as well.

I asked for my back brake pads to be replaced. The mechanic removed my entire brake assembly and installed some cheap brakes instead. He did not tell me. I did not notice at first, but when the brakes went bad very quickly, I took the bike to my regular bike shop to have them look at it, and that is when they told me what Magic Cycles had done. The owner of Magic agreed that a mistake had been made and told me that he would refund me the amount that I had to pay the other bike shop to fix the mistake. But he never sent me a check. I was able to successfully dispute the charge with my credit card company. I am leaving the shop a 1-star rating because I gave the owner multiple attempts to correct the problem, and he never followed through. So not only was a mistake made; the owner did not correct it.

Huge thanks to Magic Cycle for diagnosing and repairing a potentially race ending mechanical today at 6 Hours of Warrior Creek. Before the race I noticed my rear wheel was rather loose and the skewer would not screw in completely. Luckily Magic Cycles was offering their services for race participants that day and were able to help. They tore off my rear wheel and basically reassembled my rear hub in a matter of minutes. Ive had this service before and its not cheap - They did it for free. They hooked me up. much appreciated. Thanks guys. Love your passion and commitment to the sport of cycling.

Admittedly, my first experience with them was not so great, but it was on account of one of their former employees. I went back a few years later because I was growing frustrated with another LBS in the area and had much better results. Ive kept coming back since then - to great customer service. The owner is chill, down to earth and knows his stuff.

Last Sunday, I got to Magic Cycle with a cracked back rim. (This was day 1 of a planned 4 days of riding trip.) It was only an hour before closing but they stayed two hours beyond and did a rim swap. Then they came back an hour late to double checked the re-built wheel and deliver me my bike, ready to go!This place is the BEST!

Came by today to check out inventory, probably gonna buy something else I didnt need. Brought my very kind and humble husky shepherd mix with me. Hes great with all other animals, kids, etc. Had just left mass general store around many other dogs, kids, adults, etc. Was greeted at the door by the mechanics pit. Had a dog sniffing standoff at the front door. Didnt enter immediately, let the dogs hang out for a second to get the feel for each other, about 6 or 7 seconds later the shop dog decided she didnt like us, started a pretty gnarly brawl with my dog. Dogs will be dogs, I understand, but then the mechanic said sorry, his dog is like 50/50 with other dogs. I mean WHAT THE HELL? Why is that dog allowed to roam free in the shop if its 50/50 with other dogs while customers are allowed to bring their dogs in?! Naturally, a customer has been lost, and I will never be going back there. ~owner of a $2000+ custom built full suspension bike

Its rare to find a bike shop with a staff as knowledgeable as the guys at Magic. When the salespeople make bike and accessory recommendations its clear that they are speaking from actual experience using the products in which they sell. As a customer I can always expect to receive advice that cannot be obtained from researching product information online or at other shops. What better place is there to buy mtb tires from than a shop with a xc national champion on the sales floor?

Bike shops! Stop by this place to see how a 21st century bike shop should be run!I am not local. Ive spent the last couple months traveling around, riding trails and visiting the local shops that support them. This was by far the best shop Ive seen. The building was perfect: rustic and cozy. I also liked the brands they carry. Santa Cruz and Rocky Mountain are great bikes. Giro and Bell are great shoes and lids and it was refreshing to see a bike shop selling Shimano and Pearl. I know shops arent happy with the way the brand does business, but at the end of the day you cant just drop Shimano. I couldnt put it any better than the way the owner did. He said simply, “I carry Shimano because their stuff just works.” Thank you. I shouldnt be made to feel like a pariah because my Ibis came with a Shimano group set.I ended up buying a set of pedals, and had them bleed my brakes. The brakes now work better than they ever have. (I had really neglected them.) Thanks guys.I guess the whole experience was pleasing because its the first place I went to that was missing that obligatory “business” guy. Seems like most shops have one, usually the owner. Like a toned down version of the gum chewing, used car shark. The one that rushes the sale and doesnt really make you feel special and welcome. And at the end of the day, thats what its all about. Most of us serious bikers have no problem paying full retail for an in stock item, but if were going to be treated no differently than we would at Walmart, than why not just shop online?

Ive been here a few times, and most recently was an amazing experience. Needed to replace the god awful stock stem on my Giant Trance 2, needed to get new tires, go tubeless, and have them checkout my rear wheel and drive train (Shimano SLX is an amazing drive btw). Everyone, especially Merve (probs got that wrong) and the dude with long hair (dont know his name but he shreds in his sleep most likely) were amazing to work with. The service was great and affordable. I talk a lot and they did not mind it, and made me feel rather welcome. Merve went over some tires with me and recommended Maxxis, a brand I am very familiar with. We then looked at stems and I saw where they are a renthal dealer, so of course I went with the tried and true Apex. The installation and tubeless conversion was flawless, there is nothing more gnarly than watching your baby get transformed within a matter of minutes. The care given to checking my shifting and brakes was the equivalent to a mamma bear protecting her cubs. Because of them, my bike is almost full enduro bro status, and pretty much feels like Im riding a bike that Jesus himself worked on. If you take your monster with a side of unicorn piss, wear baggies, and take shredding very seriously, give the guys at Magic Cycles a look. I dont always write reviews, but when I do its because my Fox Float DPS made it so easy to do. They love what they do, and it shows in their work and customer interactions. To sum it up, if you need the sag set, tires, stems, anything in between to give that last little bit of aggressive pumping go here. This isnt the shop Boone or Appalachian State Students need, its the shop Boone and Students deserve! So mix up those Monsters, dial in your bikes, and go to Magic for some gnarly discussion and tips!
