No frills, self-service, and you need to go with a clear, but not rigid, idea of what you want. Within those parameters, the best prices for fabric youll find for states around. I dont buy quilt fabric here (you could), but Ive gotten amazing wool, linen, sport blends, dressy fabrics, even leather. If you like something you see, buy as much as you might ever want - odds are that it wont be there next time.
Wonderful place! Tons and tons of great deals!!! I love Sydney Harris the previous owner so much! His son now owns this Place. Great family!
I was prepared to spend tons of money in this place until the chubby mullet wearing employee harassed me and screamed at me while I was cutting fabric. He singled me out for some reason (maybe my race, gender, who knows) but he killed my vibe and I just stopped cutting fabric for myself. I was visiting from out of state and heard great things about the unique selections in this warehouse so I was disappointed in the way I was treated. Who get SCREAMED at while patronizing a business? I wasn’t breaking the rules. I guess I wasn’t welcomed there; my money wasn’t good enough; he was having a bad day and took it out on me. No matter what the circumstance, zero stars for customer service.
This is fabric central for all the fabric lovers. The place is more of a warehouse filled with different types of fabric. You pick the fabric and cut the yards needed. The selection is pretty good although not very well organized. Quite frustrating to find fabric without looking through the whole inventory.
Found some really good deals on fabrics and trims. I love this place!!! I always spend too much money and stay far too long looking at the large selection of textiles.
Great place to shop for fabric and reasonable prices. I sew windows curtains for my client. Never go wrong with any fabric l buy from there great staff.
This is a unique fabric store. It is dirty and set up like a warehouse. On the other hand, you can find an enormous selection of fabric there!!! So much to choose from. They have quilting cottons, fine silks, wool, decorator fabrics, and so much more. Just be prepared to dig.
Great fabric and really nice staff. The amount of fabric is overwhelming but this place is a treasure hunt and the staff is super awesome. They took the time to talk to me about my sewing project and give me ideas on fabrics to use. They do this pretty much every time I go in.
I loved it. Messy, chaotic and all my favorite things about sewing. Not for everyone.
I give this place a 5 star because they are really trying to make everyone happy. There are a lot of fabric, it is overwhelming, but also fun. You can find everything there for all your sewing needs pretty cheaply priced. You just have to dig!
You have friendly and very helpful employees. My sister came with me and she loved your warehouse, couldnt believe the variety of fabrics.
If you have never been, its the place to go for fabric. Aisles and aisles of fabric in every color and type you can imagine. My daughter especially likes the barrels filled with buttons. They suggest mask wearing, but do not require it.
I love shopping here, however, the fact that masks are still required makes it a no-shop zone for me. Others can do as they choose but Ive definitely made my choice!
Treasures hunters will be delighted. Good deals and a huge variety! Can be overwhelming if you don’t know what you want. Better experience if you have specific needs. There are additional savings if you get their emails. It’s self serve so you measure, cut and label yourself when buying under 5 yards of a fabric. Be sure to measure your remnants too as they ask at the register.
This place has anything you could possibly want. It is an embarrassment of riches for any sewist, with trims, elastic, beads, buttons, notions... Everything. It is HUGE, with bolts and rolls stacked to the rafters. That is why I docked a star: you cannot reach everything. There are aisles completely blocked off with overstock. Its not bad, just frustrating at times when the thing that looks interesting to you is 10 feet over your head or wedged in so tight you cant get it out. I love this store.
Overwhelming number of choices, colors and patterns. Better have a good idea what you are looking for or you never leave the place. Friendly staff although they could do with a few more of them.
This facility has Lots and lots of fabric, trims, laces, leather goods, straps, upholstery fabric, foam, stuffing. everything you could possibly need. If you cant what youre looking for it doesnt exist.
Love wandering about and finding fabrics I dont really need. Staff are super knowledgable and nice.
The employees at this store, with the exception of a very nice man named Frank, are incredibly rude. I did get some good fabric at a pretty good price, but heard several employees throughout my shopping day yell at and speak down to other customers. As I was checking out, I asked the cashier a question, and she was extremely condescending to me. Im sorry that I dont know how your store works, with piles of fabric and mass chaos. I wont go back. Ill keep ordering from Fabric.com, etc. A good deal is not worth being treated like garbage.
Love this store! Fabric selection is phenomenal! Prices are reasonable and affordable. Staff is friendly and helpful. My only suggestion would be that they have a key/legend to isle/rows numbers and areas to guide shoppers in the right direction & types of fabric. Nothing fancy just a simple half sheet of paper.(Note: covid safety practices and guidelines are being observed and respected in this store.)
I walked into the store look to my left and I bought like 10 items love the store it is the best store EVER!
Love this place. Best fabric store around.
Most fabric is priced around $6-7.50/yard for cotton. They also have woolen, silk, lace and so much more. Check there first for zippers and other notions. Youll save a bundle.
Lots of fabric for diy personnel; I love it. They always have what Im looking for.
I went there to get some buttons. They have millions of buttons if not trillion!!!!!
S. R. Harris Fabrics is still the amazing warehouse/thrift store mashup that it was a decade ago. These photos are about 1/4th of it. They have wools, silks, and linens along with upholstery, sportswear, and quilting cotton. Dont expect it to be tidy and well organized like a Joannes or Hancok. Do exect an amazing selection!
I was able to find what I needed and then some!
There are stacks of cloth, upholstery material, designer material, silk, polyester, buttons, zippers, vinyl, cotton any type of material you can think of. There are great deals like a bin with $6/yard silk. You may have to dig and move other fabrics to get at some fabric. I will and have gone back. They have a parking area.
SR Harris has a fantastic assortment of fabric available and great prices.
Great browsing experience. Amazing selection and good prices. It is a warehouse though so be prepared.
This place has a huge fabric selection. There are tons and tons of exclusive designers fabric. A lot of fabric bolts are missing price tags, which could be frustrating. Prices are reasonable, but didnt see any screaming deals. I will definitely be going back there whenever I need to make something special.
Always the best and helpful staff 👏
Magical wonderland, sewist paradise! Lots of geeks on staff is a bonus, but besides that everyone is knowledgeable, helpful, and covid conscious. There was a line outside today, not sure if thats the norm but maybe prep a podcast or book for waiting.
WOW. Everything you ever wanted as a quilter is here, and even more you didnt know youd want! Line takes about an hour or more in coronavirus times on the weekend, but once youre in you can shop to your hearts content. Staff are so knowledgeable and helpful! Prices are great. Organization can be a little confusing at first but if you ask for help or go with a veteran who knows the space youll be fine. So glad to have access to this as a beginning quilter!!
I am disappointed as to what happened today (valentines day) upon entering the store with my sister. She is currently going through chemo and went into the store wearing a face shield that was below her chin because she is having trouble breathing. We were greeted with a clerk saying that she needed to be wearing a cloth mask and that it was the governors orders. Unfortunately she could not put a piece of cloth over her mouth and continue to breath normally, and had to leave to her disappointment. The staff can look up this mandate on health state mn us and find the following. It is not known whether face shields (a clear plastic barrier that covers the face) provide the same source control for droplets as face masks, but they may be an option in situations where wearing a face mask is problematic. It would be nice to have some common sense when enacting safety for staff and customers, instead of making the lives of these people harder than it has to be.
My mom and I love this place. You need to hunt bit sometimes but its great for lots of projects.
A lot of fabric!! There are no patterns!! Its cool though. The silk pattern is beautiful!
Did not allow my wife and I inside. My wife has claustrophobia and cannot wear a traditional face covering, we purchased a specific custom one that follows the MN state guidelines just for this trip and we were turned away. No place that discriminates on this basis should be shopped at in good concience. On top of that, they were not following other guidelines like capacity concerns and social distancing. Total hipocracy, discrimination and poor service.
Overwhelmingly perfect. You could spend so much time here just looking.
Nice fabric. Almost overwhelming at the quantity of fabric in the store.
Great fabric selection and great prices!
Love the prices. Needs some more staff ASAP.
This is the most amazing fabric store anywhere! They are doing the best they can to social distance. Although it’s a large warehouse, only 9 people can safely cut at a time. Wear your mask, be patient, obey the rules, and you will be amazed at the selection of fabrics, it’s endless!
If they dont have it, you dont need it. Prices reasonable.
You need to let more people in the store. Waiting 45 to 60 minutes is not acceptable. Especially with the mask requirements. Here is the formula of how many people can go in the store:Start by dividing the space into separate sections that you can easily measure.Measure the length and width of each section.Get the area of each section by multiplying the length X width of each section.Add the area of each section to get the total square footage.Divide the total square footage by 120 to get the 50% occupancy capacity.Ill change this after its fixed because its normally okay. I also showed up at 550 but was told the store was already closed. Thats also not acceptable business etiquette.
The prizes are a steal. Prepare to spend some time digging if youre looking for anything specific though.
Found a great fabric for outdoor furniture cushions. It took lots of searching but found it! This place has done a great job of protecting customers during this pandemic. Sanitizer at the door. Strict limits on numbers in store. You will probably have to wait in line outside and when a customer leaves the next in line can enter. It can be overwhelming in this warehouse of fabric but it did not feel crowded with people
This place has a huge amount of fabric and materials but dont come here expecting any help from staff. I came to looking for something specific for someone else but I dont sew so I needed extra guidance. I had to practically beg someone to show me where the fabric I was looking for was located as basically nothing is labeled. I ended up being helped more by customers than staff. The only reason I walked out with any fabric is because a very nice customer showed me where to go, and how to cut what I needed. Ive never in my life had to fight so hard to give a store my money. I would have walked out but the fabric is for a gift.
Great stuff, but grumpy. I ended up grumpy too because of them, and refused to spend my money there. Customer service is as important as stuff.
Very helpful and knowledgable staff helped this inexperienced shopper find what I needed quickly.
I love this fabric store and I hope they never get shut down because the prices are affordable and reasonable and the variety of fabrics you can get is awesome!!!! When you get there, so much to choose and you don’t feel limited at all. Sometimes for those who loves seeing and making projects you can go crazy spending because you’ll fall in love with the people working there and the fabrics you will find.
So much fabric. Awesome
Often bolts are very heavy. Help would be appreciated.
Great, but overwhelmed!!! Can hardly wait to go again!
Still distancing. Be prepared to wait to get inside
I could spend hours here. Such a great selection of fabric at an excellent price!
Its an insane maze of fabric chaos and I LOVE it! Think of it as an adventure- pack snacks and wear comfortable walking shoes, because if you love fabric, youre going to be here awhile. Prices are excellent. Check out their website or Instagram for monthly coupons to save even more. Quality varies and customer service is nearly non-existent, but if you enjoy a good treasure hunt this place is for you.
Updated and changed my opinion of this place today. They expect the customers to stand out in the 100° weather and wait without doing anything to monitor who is waiting.Let me just make it clear, I support wearing masks and limiting the number of people in the store. I want to support local businesses, because it is very important to the community. However! I will not support businesses who are asking the customers to put themselves in harms way to gain access. I encourage other to take a stand until they make changes! I regret to have to say my friends and I will sadly be ordering online instead of buying locally. What a waste, because we spend thousands here every year.
Waited outside for 1/2 hour. Limited customers. Worth the wait. Great selection and prices
Great place. Can be tough to find specific items, but pretty well organized. Nothing else like it.
Love this place
This place makes me feel like Ive happened upon a clandestine operation in an abandoned warehouse. The shelving is lumber yard quality so you probably dont have to worry about dying in a fabric avalanche. The prices are good, better than other fabric stores in the area, but not better than online. You cant put a price on being able to touch the fabric though, or the thrill of maybe stumbling upon the skeletal remains of a long lost quilter. Its fun to go here, and if youre looking for the New York Public Library of quilting cotton, look no further.
Huge warehouse. Cut yourself. Clearance cotton fabric was $2.99 was the best deal I could find. Limited customer service. Due to COVID there is a limited number of people that can come in. So be prepare to wait 20-30 min before you can get in, I went midday on a week day
Always a good time picking out fabric from their amazing selection!
Almost any fabric you could wish for, and at a pretty decent price too!
Seriously! Its unreal we have to stand outside in this heat, and there is no organization to get in once they meet the limit. I used to really like this place.
People were friendly n so helpful...would go again
This place has the largest section of fabric in the cities. Be aware:: get enough fabric for your project cause you may never find that fabric again due to the massive size of the warehouse!!They have a wide selection of 4 way stretch but wish they offered more of a selection of what is popular currently for dance / swimwear.Sid the original owner is a character and chats everyone up when he is around.Great place, a must try if you are into sewing and or crafting.
I was at the Store today (3-23-19) and was looking to purchase some transparent camouflage for my project. After entering the Store I realized I was going to need a lot of help! This store was huge. I ran into an employee in less than 5 minutes and asked her where I could find camouflage? She said aisle 20 and told me how to get there. Very helpful! After I fond it i was overwhelmed and needed more help? Then I ran into Amy in aisle 19 and she answered all my questions about the merchandise I was going to purchase. She said when I make up my mind to bring the stuff up to the counter and I was supposed to cut it. She said if I needed help that someone would cut it for me. Well lo and behold Amy was up at the counter at that time I got up there. Amy cut it for me and when its time to check out no one else is around but Amy so she check me out to. AMY WAS VERY HELPFUL! Ill be back!
Huge place with so many pieces of fabric to choose from. Prices are good, as well. Can buy fabric of all types, buttons, zippers, decorative rope, and more. They have it fairly well organized, but there is so much that it can be hard to find something if youre looking for a particular pattern or type. Im sure if you go more regularly, youd get a better handle on locations of items.
Just WOW... I cant imagine there isnt anything you would need to go elsewhere for!
Amazing selection! My teenager was like a kid in a candy store!
Great selection of fabrics in this warehouse with helpful though minimal staff. I cannot imagine anyone complaining about anything here if you like a sense of adventure in fabric shopping. There are plenty of dull and boring fabric shops if you want little to choose from and in-store organization is your top priority in finding fabric. It’s a delightful place!
Awesome fabric and great prices!
Excellent customer service. Huge inventory.....
I love this place! There is so many fabric choices that I have always been about to find anything Ive been looking for if not something better! And I have always found the staff to be helpful and friendly. Definitely worth a trip is you have a sewing project.
Every fabric you could ever imagine and tons of colors. Row after row of quilting cottons and batiks. Polar fleece stacked to the ceiling. Trims, buttons, leather, Velcro, webbing, threads and more. Silks and wools to make your mouth water. It is a warehouse, so not a lot of labels but totally worth the hunt.
More fabric than 500 grandmas.
DO NOT bother coming here while they have their COVID19 restrictions in place. It will not be worth the time. Plan to spend at least 1 hour waiting outside, getting poured on in the rain with an employee occasionally walking out to bark a few orders at everyone. They’re allowing 20 people in the warehouse at a time, so bring a book and an umbrella if you plan to wait. Masks are required, babies and all.
We go here quite often. Today we were there and 2 of the staff members were so rude several times. First a younger man was carrying something and walked by Sid who was helping someone. He interrupted Sid and said what are you doing. Sid didn’t answer right away so the younger guy starts yelling at him in front of customers FOCUS SID. Every time we go there Sid is the most friendly out of everyone always asks how we are doing etc. Then I proceeded to watch the older short grey hair woman working at the counter she was incredibly rude to all the customers that were asking questions. While my mother was shopping I continued to watch this for about 45 minutes. She was rude and insulting to them the whole time. Several customers were complaining about her to each other. We had a question and purposely went and asked the younger lady working there. The prices are great and we live in Maple Grove but we may starting to drive over to Savage one it’s really hard for me to watch how they treat not only customers but also their fellow employ Sid. So sad
Little bit of a wait outside in sun but they do offer umbrellas.
This was my first time going to SR Harris. Everyone that worked there seemed disengaged, not friendly, and not helpful. The woman at the register wrote entire paragraphs on 3 different post-its before she even looked up to acknowledge me. A simple Ill be with you in a minute would have been sufficient. They do have a large inventory, but were limited in what I was looking for-Lace. Probably wouldnt go back. The smiling faces at Joanns is worth the extra price of fabric.
So many options💫
Luv Harris! If you cant find it at Harris...it doesnt exist!
Love it. @!!!
Helpful employees, better selection than chain fabric stores and way better pricing. If given the chance Id come here over JoAnns every time. A bit of an overwhelming selection when I first got there, but staff was very helpful. Will be back.
Had a great time exploring, it being my first visit, I was overwhelmed, in a good way! Helpful employees and owners... Amazing prices. Great parking, place was clean, Other than dust in the higher reaches.
What an fun experience shopping here!! Beautiful, high quality designer fabrics are in abundance! I have been to both locals. Brunsville location is not as overwhelming and they cut your fabric. The Brooklyn Park location is a large warehouse and is so much fun rummaging through all the fabrics. You never know what you will find. A must have to shop there when I visit Minneapolis!!
Always a great trip!
The variety of materials was incredible. Staff was very willing to help me find what I needed. The material bolts were stacked.very high; about 18 feet tall. Felt a bit claustrophobic. Otherwise great experience shopping there.
Theres tons of options to choose from, they have almost anything youre looking for fabric wise, a wide election of thread and you can cut your own fabric or have someone do it for you. They also have zippers, buttons, and other fabric related add-ons. The service is always good as well. It also really inspires one to create and sew.
Just need to start letting in a few more people.
