I had read the great reviews and work nearby, so after pulling check engine codes myself, I shared them with Ruppel’s. I was not in a rush to get my car back so I wasn’t in any great hurry. My negative experience and what prevented me from giving 5 stars was that I was still charged $172 for pulling check engine codes when we had already gone over them. I was told that the 172 was to “clear the codes”, which doesn’t seem like a process that should cost almost $200. Other than that, I am more or less happy with the work done as the car seems to run right.

I highly recommend Ruppels! We have been taking our old Nissan to Ken ever since we moved to the area 6 years ago. Its hard to find a trustworthy mechanic, so now that we moved to the other side of they bay we still go at least once a year for a check up.

We have been using Kens services for as long as he has had the shop I believe. He recently replaced the shocks in my van - which he found to be an issue after a test drive after a separate check engine light diagnostic. Over the years, we have had brakes done, an oil leak, you name it. He is honest, helpful and will go to great lengths to solve a problem. I wont go to anyone else.

I went to Ken original because he came highly recommended and during an oil change they had noticed my power steering fluid was low. But when I took the car to Ken for a check, he noticed that a recent repair job of my alternator had been done incorrectly and the bolts holding it in place we’re all completely stripped. Ken fixed the issue after a day of work, was very clear about what they were doing and the cost that would be required, and offered what seemed to be a good price. Overall very happy with how it went. Ken seems like a good person with the client’s interests at heart which is often difficult to find in the industry.

Ruppels is great, one of the best service places to take your car. Ken and his staff are fantastic and will give you straight answers and honest service. I go out of my way to take my car there, they are that good.

Theyre always honest and upfront about what needs to be done, what your options are, and the cost is very reasonable. Brother in law recommended this shop. Fist time here. I dropped off my 1976 cougar which was making a rattling sound. Ken was able to not only find the problem, a failing starter, but also diagnosed other issues which I thought were normal in older cars. When he communicated the issues I can tell he was very thorough in his inspection. I decided to proceed with anything that was potentially hazardous. Within a week he was able to complete a list of issues and replace the failing starter. Shop is very clean, super organized, price was fair for the work performed, extremely professional, and Ken is truly outstanding. Took my 19 year old Jeep into Ruppel’s after an oil changer stripped the plug on my oil pan and tried to cover it up!! Ken is super friendly and professional and fixed her up ASAP with a new plug saving lots of $ and hassle to replace the pan!! Also, have taken her here for brakes and spark plugs. The shop is clean and the workmanship is excellent. I will continue to trust Ruppel’s for all my future Jeep needs!!

Ken has been keeping our cars running smoothly for over 10 years, ever since I got tired of being upsold or being given shady rationales for needed repairs at a dealer (these rationales never held up to questioning from me or my gearhead brother). He is clear on what needs to be done and only performs services which are truly needed. He has also handled minor issues via phone or a quick 5 minute intervention at the shop. Great local business; Im happy to support it. Convenient location, too, right next to the Burlingame train station.

We have been going to Ruppels for many years, with all of our cars, and always to our full satisfaction. If Ken feels a problem is better being fixed by some specialty shop, he will recommend that, which has only happened once with a transmission problem. Just recently our automatic car seat adjustment on our 1996 Volvo broke. Unlike many car dealer services, who immediately tell you they need to replace this or that, Ken thoroughly researched the problem as he always does and traced it to a bad connector which he fixed by cleaning it. The charge for the work was very reasonable and they got it fixed in less than half a day. This is our typical experience with Ruppels Auto Fixation. Great work.

My car was a white 1990 Acura Integra and I had owned it for a long time (sold now). This car owed me nothing, it ran so well thanks in no small part to the TLC from Ken and Ruppels Auto Fixation. He is very fair and HONEST. Once, I had issues with my clutch grabbing and not going down all the way to the floor. I told Ken about it and he showed me the floor rug had crept its way up, wedging under the clutch. Remove the rug obstruction and voila! Perfectly functioning clutch! He won me over with his honesty. Ken and his team are the best around and they pay attention to the older cars which need more (aforementioned) TLC.
