Salt & Straw on Burlingame Avenue offers a variety of flavors that will appeal to all taste buds. They have gluten free ice cream (!). Today there were seasonal berry in 5 flavors. Interesting combinations such as an Indian Lassi with berries. My favorite is the cold brew with cashew pralines. It gives me the caffeine boost I need in the afternoon which is when I (and many other customers) descend on the shop. Giveaways were a temporary tattoo and regular stickers today for “National Ice Cream Day!”It was hot in Burlingame. Ice cream was just the right snack to cool off & continue my enjoyment of the day.8/13/21Who could resist? Returned again because the ice cream is delicious! They had just started the Campfire new menu series...great (!) new flavors to check out. And they resumed giving out tastes! I adore the coffee toffee cashew praline. The scoop staff suggested I combine it with the chewy chocolate brownie. This is a winning pair!
Always good! Great flavors to choose from. Double Fold Vanilla!
The ice cream here is SO delicious. I tried a few flavors but ended up choosing the Cowboy coffee grinds and bourbon and was SO happy eating a double scoop of this flavor. The staff was very friendly and efficient with getting through all the customers in line. Had a great experience here. And very happy that they have a bathroom as well for their customers.
I went there on Thursday to have an ice cream and when I told them today is my husbands birthday 🥳, and when we were ready to pay the bill she refused to accept the money as they said its free 😊 and the best part was when they sing a song Happy birthday 🎂🎉 for my husband. We felt so good. Thanks TEAM members of Salt & Straw🧁I really appreciate you all!!🙏
Drove out here because the Palo Alto location had a line around the block and was able to walk right in and grab a cone. Love it! The staff is super cool and helpful and the ice cream is beyond anything else I’ve ever had.
Really tasty ice cream! They take flavors you already know and elevate them to the next level, but Id say the unique flavors are the reason to eat here. Their vegan options sounded good too. Could go 5 stars because the price is up there, but there is a line for a reason.
Went here at 10:30 pm they were cleaning. They said they are close. I usually go here, they close at 11pm sharp. They should change the operation time they post so people wouldn’t waste their time driving just to be told they are close when you are 30 minutes early from closing time. 09/15/21
Keep doing what you’re doing staff. You guys are the ish. You need fun friendly staff that make you feel happy and excited that share the same mood and energy as you when you come in to be gluttonous and get hella scoops of ice cream. I love nice staff that leave you with positive experiences. So glad to have missed any lines and got a moment to talk to staff and ask questions about their flavors. And golly effin gee the best waffle cones I’ve ever tasted. You can smell them in the street. This cone was so darn good! My ice cream was delicious and the salted cupcake or whatever flavor was fire!! I had strawberry tres leches and another I forgot the name. I went crazy this night. I was too happy for dessert and no like and wanted to try them all.
Not only is the ice cream amazing but the people were too!! As soon as we walked in there was a line, but we were greeted and helped almost immediately. Our ice cream server double checked allergies and our cashier was so kind and thoughtful. She double checked to see if my two young daughters needed cups and spoons and of course extra napkins.
Long line but moved relatively quickly. Classic flavors are always good! Pro tip - buy the pints and you can go straight to checkout, skipping the line
This place has some really unique ice cream flavors. If you are here dont miss out on trying out the seasonal flavors that are pretty good. But their honey lavender is a classic and you cant go wrong with it. Pair that with their fresh waffle cones (this place smells amazing because of the fresh waffles) and its a match made in ice cream heaven. This place is totally worth it!
Used chownow to order ahead. This is especially good for ice cream in a cup. If you order a cone, they put your scoop on a cup and you can add it to the cone. Its the only way to keep your order frozen and fresh. I didnt mind especially because I could skip the line. The ice cream is very yummy, of course. Worth the price
I received a few pints of ice cream (delivered) as a birthday gift from a friend and I am totally hooked! Every flavor was absolutely amazing and I may as well consider their Honey Lavender my favorite ice cream in existence, though their Pots of Gold is a close second. The pints arrived well packaged and VERY cold (no melting at all). I can’t wait to try more and see future seasonal creations. Y’all rock.
Despite being the most busy place in downtown Burlingame, the service here manages to be very friendly and patient. I brought my grandma here and they respectfully explained their flavors and let her sample.Their ice cream is also divine and we come here often to bring back pints or sample new flavors.Recommend highly for their ice cream, not as a sit down place or to hang out... unless you want to do that in line!
Not a huge ice cream fan but this was delicious! Highly recommend the mint chip and cookie dough flavors. The dont do taste tests at the moment which discouraged me to try a seasonal flavor. The line looked long at first when we arrived but goes by quick so dont be discouraged by it.Amazingly friendly staff as well.
I have had some great experiences here but also some bad ones. The low stars is due to the inconsistency of the experience. Today I got a double scoop of the cookie dough ice cream in a waffle cone that had only 2 pieces of cookie dough in the entire thing. I think for a $10 ice cream cone, its reasonable to expect a bit more than that. I was so disappointed. If I wanted just vanilla, I would have ordered that. This has happened to me before so I felt I finally had to say something. Its almost better to be mediocre every time instead of great one time and disappointing the next. Consistency goes a long way. I wont be back for a while.
They have great vegan ice cream options here that arent just sorbet. Very tasty options like honey lavender (not vegan) that have good flavor but arent overpowered with sweetness.
If you like odd stuff like dead crickets in your ice cream then you have come to the right place. I wound up getting the plain vanilla cone.
I didnt know salty ice cream could be this good
Always great ice cream! This month this location has cereal-themed flavors. Definitely recommend the cocoa crisp one and the lucky charms one. Oh yes.
Line was brief and efficient. This store has some unusual flavors that I was too cowardly to try, but the salted caramel and brownie chocolate were decadent and flavorful in the extreme. Will absolutely visit again.
Great hand crafted ice cream at a reasonable price, the berry ice cream was outstanding. Im eyeing the bourbon the next time I stop in
We had the best time! Interesting flavors, the line moved quickly, and the staff was so helpful in describing the Rad Reader series - I cant wait to go back and try more flavors!
Good quality ice cream. Very expensive and small choice of flavors.
Awesome flavors and good portions a little expensive but worth it once in a while
7/2020-No walk in but you can ask for samples. Honey lavender is still out favorite. Waffle cones are light, fresh and crispy. Mint chip is very rich and creamy.12/2019-About 5 seasonal Halloween-themed flavors! Our favorite is the honey lavender and today we added the candycopia. The sugar cone is free. We really appreciate being able to taste any and as much as we like before deciding. Its a smaller location so the entrance gets crowded. One scoop is $5 and two scoops is $7. The creepy crawlers has REAL bugs... Maybe will try in another lifetime. 🍦🐛🎭🎃❤️
Great service. However, I have been here a few times. No matter what I order, ice cream is fairly flavorless.
This was my first time at Salt & Straw and I was not disappointed. I was out for lunch right across the street when I spotted this place. Soon after finishing my lunch I dropped here to satisfy my sweet cravings. The guy behind the counter was friendly and the place was not crowded. He started my offering us to taste before ordering ice-cream. After trying a few I settled with sightglass coffee cashew praline and it was delicious.Just the perfect blend of coffee wrapped with coffee bits and creamy. I really enjoyed it. Definitely coming back to try more.
A guilty but true pleasure. They have a wide array of amazing and changing flavors as well as some old favorites. These days there are a lot of specialty ice cream shops out there but this place consistently delivers and provides some fun and funky things to try if you are feeling adventurous. Jenis will always have my heart, but this comes a close second.
Tried the seasonal flavor...something cupcake. It was delicious. They make their waffle cones in house so be sure to get your ice cream on a waffle cone
Thank you Axel you cool-Jimmy, Roy, Noah
Great flavors, dairy and non-dairy options!
Incredibly nice staff! Be warned that you cant do taste tests right now. The vegan flavors are usually very good.
Must visit place in Burlingame. High quality ice cream.
First time trying it and let me tell you..the line was definitely worth standing it. The coffee flavor was amazing!!
The best and most interesting ice cream anywhere. Sometimes too interesting!
The waffle cones are so good 👍
If you love or like salty and sweet ice cream...this is the place for you
The Thanksgiving flavors (only in November) were so unique! They tasted just like their names, but some of the flavors were a little too strong for my taste. I ended up with roasted peach and sage cornbread stuffing, which tasted like peach cobbler to me. I like how they are so creative with their flavors! They use local ingredients too, which is why each store is a bit different. The staff that helped us was so nice and patient. She let us try ALL the Thanksgiving flavors and more! I really like how great the service is. It can get very crowded in the store, but they work fast. I didnt feel rushed to pick my ice cream.Overall, great ice cream shop! The line can get very long, but I think the wait is worth it if you are an ice cream lover. Sometimes, they give out free samples while you are in line!
This place was excellent! The ice cream was great. I loved the fact that they had vegan ice cream! Check this place out! This was my first time and it is worth it! 2👍👍up!!😁💖
Just love it here.Came here on a Monday evening for some post-dinner summer time dessert.Line wasnt super long, which was nice. The girl who helped us was very kind and patient, she let us sample a couple of different ice creams before we committed to the flavors we wanted! Love the creative seasonal menus that they rotate through. Fun and engaging!Ended up having the mint chip (vegan) and a coffee pecan type of ice cream. Absolutely delicious, cant get enough!Stay cool, Salt & Straw
Trying to find out whats so addictive about it.
This was my first time at Salt & Straw and I was not disappointed. I was out for lunch right across the street when I spotted this place. This is the most crowded ice cream corner in the area. When I first visited, I tried their strawberry ice cream as its my go to flavour, but I didnt like the taste, even though its melt-in-the-creamy. Their sea salt caramel is also bit too salty for me. They have a huge variety with some unique flavours. Double vanilla and candycopia are my favourite so far.
Terrific service by the staff! And S&S’s suite of homemade flavors never fails to disappoint.
Team chocolate gooey brownie forever!
I was motivated to come here for the first time since the reviews were promising. We tried 4 different flavors, strawberry tres leches, salty caramel, vanilla and chocolate brownie (I don’t remember the exact names of all). I was disappointed by the lack of flavor, the best I can describe it is tasting like watered down ice cream. I wanted to like it but I won’t be returning for more.
THE best ice cream Ive ever had. Their portions are also very generous. Have to get the kid size to even finish a cone. Their unique flavors work surprisingly well and you can also buy pints of flavors you didnt get to try. It tastes best when served fresh and on a cone, though
I love Salt & Straw! They have really unique and delicious flavors. The staff is very helpful and despite usually having a long line, you dont have to wait terribly wrong. I come here at least once a month to try their seasonal flavors. I highly recommend if want high quality ice cream!
Excited to finally have salt and straw on the ave! they have creative flavors. youll see a line out the door generally, but its worth it. scoops arent cheap, but the ice cream is quality. be sure to ask for as many samples as you want. also their waffle cones are fresh and you can definitely tell.
The frekle mint is my favorite.💞 My daughters favorite is the birthday cake with blueberry jam which is seasonal ☹️ love this place. Nice staff
Amazing ice cream? Crazy flavors? Great location? Check, check and check. This place has amazing ice cream. The only negatives is that the lines are crazy long but well worth the wait. The line moves fast and the staff friendly.
Well-worth trying especially since its near The Grove area. Thai tea macaroon ice cream sandwich was heavenly! $5 a sandwich is a bit too pricey, but so worth the taste. Most likely will have to park in nearby residential areas.
Amazing ice cream 😍 and great options to choose from
Although I love salt and straw this one doesnt have the almond brittle flavor that I LOVE. But I could have sworn Ive had it at the one in the city, but they told me this area doesnt get that flavor... So strange
Okay, fine. Bay Area, you win this one. Coming from Boston, I maintain the best hard ice cream in the U.S. comes from New England. I still maintain this. JP Licks, Toscaninis, New City Microcreamery, there are too many unbeatable places. BUT...Salt & Straws flavor game is LIT. Raspberry crumble with toasted anise? Mt. Tam cheese with ACME bread? Jasmine milk tea? So many awesome awesome things to try!Service-wise, I am also really impressed. Given their flavor game is so innovative and interesting, I was really afraid that I would want to try too many things before deciding. But despite the long line, they had enough employees to actually come OUT to the line (I wasnt even to the case yet) and he encouraged me to try as many flavors as I wanted. I loved that, as someone who knows her eyes are bigger than her stomach.A scoop was $5 and dont let the line deter you; it moves pretty quickly and youll be agonizing over the flavors while you wait anyway.
Great flavors, some interesting ones. O doubt. But the quality and taste is really there. I love coming here for an after dinner treat!
Best place till date for ice cream. The taste is sooo good. Lots of options to choose from. Plus the handmade waffle cone is tasty
Have been going here since they opened up in Burlingame, great ice cream and great and friendly staff! Today I tried the limited edition carrot cake and praline and Ill have to say its one of my favorite flavors! That and the regular Mt Tam flavor that they keep around as a regular flavor! Enjoy!
Great ice cream! Got the split scoop with Fresh Sheeps Cheese & Strawberries and Birthday Cake & Blackberries. Theres a line every time, but their friendly staff handles it well so it moves along and youre not rushed (and its worth the wait).
Very quirky flavors available here, like olive oil (and traditional ones as well). Not cheap, but very good ice cream.
Decent favours and options. They offer samples to try before you diving into it. Long queues at the moment but overall good service. Ice creams try to be unique but are similar to your Ben and Jerrys at times. Worth a try!
This place always serves up a sweet and savory lineup of seasonal flavors. They currently have a camping inspired lineup. Dont be afraid to try the different and unqiue flavors as they always impress. This is one of my favorite ice cream shops around! Remember you can spend $0.50 more to split a kid or single scoop into 2 flavors!
O. M. G. This is amazing ice cream. The shop offers flavors youve never seen before. When we visited, their special edition ice creams were all Thanksgiving themed and featured sweet potato casserole, stuffing, and turkey among other varieties. The service was friendly and quick.
Interesting flavors of ice cream available at an acceptable price range. Very happy to see plenty of vegan options which could easily pass as the real thing. Friendly and helpful staff, as well.
A must try when you see one. Staff was so patient as we tourists sampled so many of their unique ice creams. I finally decided on a Neococoas black sesame brittle & brown sugar, which was ridiculously good. Ice cream shop very much like The Parlor in Durham, NC.
Editing review (in Feb 2021)This has been my goto place for long now..and when I picked up my icecream yesterday.. I found this hand written note on my bag..made my day! ❤️❤️Absolutely loved this place! Tried the sea salt and caramel ribbons icecream and it’s worth all the calories ❤️❤️Dying to try all the other flavors!
This place is as unique as it is caring about the community. Hiring bright young people. I brought a student of mine into the store and the manager personally helped us find the perfect flavor for my student.
I choose to have my cars serviced at Burlingame everytime, so that I come and get ice cream here.
I first found Salt and Straw in Portland, and was really happy to find they had opened this location. They have a selection of unique ice cream flavors that cover a huge range of tastes. Personally, I gravitate to the chocolate and mint flavors. Take a taste of what they have on offer, because youll find flavors here you wont find anywhere else. The waffle cones are made fresh and are some of the best Ive had. So far, the lines here arent the crazy out the door and around the corner we had in Portland, so go before everyone discovers the amazing ice cream here!
My husband and I really enjoy their salted caramel ice cream. Down side is long line ups though. I took my brother and his wife here and they loved it too. Definitely going back.
The brownie ice cream was so good. Worth a try!
Great ice creams and shakes, flavors are tweaks of common flavors with quality ingredients. Service is great, try all the tastings you want, though this can slow the line a bit. I recommend getting split flavor - two smaller scoops instead of a single larger one for more variety.
Get ready for some funky flavors. I really enjoy some of the classic flavors like chocolate brownie, strawberry tres leches, and honey lavender. Its worth checking in with the store regularly to see what their seasonal flavors are too.Burlingame Pro Tip: Dont wait in line for ice cream in a cone or cup. Instead, politely wiggle through the line thats often running out the door and find your way to the pre-packed pints freezer. Take your time perusing the pints, grab what you want, and then simply check out at the register. You dont have to waste any time waiting in lines. Ive been able to get my Salt and Straw ice cream in less than 3 minutes by hitting up the pints when others were spending 20+ minutes in line.
Ice creme
Wonderful and delicious!
The line here can get pretty crazy on the weekends. Unless youre dying to try it or have time to kill Id hold off until the weekday. The customer service is great and you can basically try as many flavors as your want.If you dont want a cone or scoop, you can always buy the prepackaged stuff and skip the line. Youll just have to eat out of the tub like how everyone else does, but in the confines of their own home.
