Gather Here is a shop, a fiber arts school, a community hub, an arts center, a gathering place all in one. They are a fabulous resource for first time crafters to professional artists. They carry gorgeous, playful, fun, serious fabrics and yarns, and textiles of all sorts. They have all the tools and patterns you need and the helpful talented staff to get you started on, through, or casting off/stitching up/ binding it finishing off any project. Their classes post monthly and fill up fast, and their studio is great for those of us who need more space, better machines and a little moral support to work in a project.

Thank you gather here for being a warm & welcoming, community creating, gathering place. 🧶💕🧵The staff are the loveliest people. The products are thoughtfully curated to maximize ethically sourced, sustainable materials, while still providing affordable options like universal yarn (I bought their bamboo pop there to make a ripple bralette for my friend, which was both affordable and sustainable). The fabric’s are amazing as well, with Japanese organic prints and lots of fun fat quarter options. I love that they have patterns that come in lots of different sizes and are really thinking about how to keep gather here inclusive. I feel so lucky to have such an amazing local store to go to.

I *am* the target audience for this store. I love the aesthetic & the variety of brands & crafts carried. I haven’t managed to take a class here yet, but that’s only because I moved farther away. I love coming in to sit & knit for a while - if I feel like chatting, I always meet someone interesting. No big deal if I don’t.It’s expensive, yes, but that’s because of the brands they carry. If you do a price comparison for the same brands, they’re in the same ballpark. The process of designing & creating fabric is complicated & takes skilled operators. It’s not cheap to create quality fabric.

A fantastic shop with incredibly helpful, patient, and professional staff. I wanted a yarn that wasnt in stock and they were able to set up a preorder for me. And when I needed help matching yarns, they sent over a bunch of pictures to help me choose.Im primarily a yarnie and their selection is fantastic - theres a great balance of affordable workhouse yarns, popular hand dyed like Manos and Malabrigo, and unique fibers and blends.

This place is very specialized, expensive, and....exclusive? I feel that I am not wanted here so I only stop in quickly for staples. It’s fine that I’m not the client they designed the store for, but why the stink eye?? It’s like they don’t trust me or something. I’m not usually an anxious person but this place....I don’t knowSolid for quilting - whimsical prints and fat quarter bundles. Lot of indie patterns which lean heavily sundress/flowy blouse (which really describes the aesthetic of the whole store). The heavier fabrics are relegated to a small corner and are shockingly expensive. You could practically buy designer before you could knock something off yourself. Decent notions, but again, specialized for a specific Cambridge aesthetic

Best craft store Ive visited and Im so lucky it is my LYS. The owners have created such a welcoming space to visit and learn in addition to having a massive selection of materials made from natural fibers. The people who work here are knowledgeable and always interested in what your yarn is going to grow up to be; the yarn selection is constantly expanding and it would be difficult to leave without being inspired to make something! In addition to being a frequent knitter/shopper, Ive recently started taking sewing classes here to learn a new craft and find the selection classes and projects offered appealing to the modern maker. The machines are wonderful to work with (albeit, too much so that I have no idea how Im going to manage without a fancy Bernina!)Overall, a must visit if youre a crafter who finds themselves in the Boston/Cambridge area!

First off, every staff member was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The fabric selection is incredibly tasteful, beautifully curated, and high quality. The shop is also taking very thoughtful and excellent precautions to prevent the spread of COVID. I appreciate everything about this place, and the studio in the back is well equipped and the price is very fair and reasonable for access to such incredible resources. In addition to all this, the shop is impeccably clean! For fabric (and yarn) enthusiast who enjoy high quality --> this is your spot. An XL thank you to the staff for being so friendly and welcoming, Gather here is a true gem.

A wonderful local store. I had a rather last minute fabric need and saw gather here had what I needed on their website. Right now due to COVID they’re only doing curbside pick up and same-day pick up isn’t an option. Since I had a same-day need I decided to give them a call and Molly answered the phone. She was so kind to accommodate the pick up that same day. Without hesitation she made it happen! Truly a prime example of a local, shopping experience. Just a few hours later we picked up the fabric and it was exactly what we needed! The ‘radiance’ is such a beautiful cotton, silk blend and was lovely to work with.5 stars to gather here — thank you, thank you!

What a haven! I decided to make some pillows— have not sewn in over 20 years and hence no sewing machine. I signed up for machine rental at Gather Here. They welcome you and set you up for success. Give you a great deal of work space and all the tools you need. They nicely answer questions and provide free coffee tea and cookies. The shop is a lovely display of materials, tools, handmade items and class or work space. A great community vibe with at least 3 generations working or shopping. Terrific unique concept

I love Gather Here! Ive taken a few sewing and embroidery classes and all of them were taught by kind, helpful, encouraging experts. The people who work there are always available to lend a gentle helping hand and they help make you believe that you can tackle any tricky project. I feel good about shopping at Gather Here because I know they care about supporting small businesses, respecting the environment, and carry high quality products that they enjoy using themselves. The best part, I think, is that they host community-oriented events like book club, basic life skills, and Inman Square local events.

Overpriced and Gentrifying. Anything that you can buy here that you can buy somewhere else is unashamedly marked up usually 40%/50% sometimes more. Gather Here is by far one of my favorite places in Cambridge. They have beautiful products and the people who work and shop there are some of the nicest you will ever meet. They always have the products I need in stock, which is certainly not the case at other stores. Some reviewers have mentioned that their prices are high. This is true only because the products they have are extremely high quality; you will not find this quality of yarn at a Michael’s store. They do not appear to mark up their products higher than stores outside of Cambridge or even online retailers. For example, their prices on brands such as Clover knitting needles etc. are actually lower than they are at both Michaels and Amazon, and I’d much rather support GH.

Love that this business is in my neighborhood. They have a lovely curated selection of fabric and patterns, and they have the nicest store staff, but I have to give a special shout out for their classes. I was a lapsed cross stitcher and I had never touched a sewing machine in my life. It took me a while to muster up the courage to take a machine sewing class, but eventually I took the plunge. I had a blast in both the totebag class led by Kayla and Saras school of sewing series. Most of the other people had a little bit of machine sewing experience but the classes still felt completely accessible to me as a complete newbie and someone with 0 spatial skills. The instructors were very patient and receptive to questions. In the months after their classes, I bought my own machine and have successfully taken on and completed my own sewing projects at home; I am totally hooked. I also took Emilys embroidery basics class which was relaxing and fun (and it inspired me to pick up cross stitching again) and Noahs helpful machine maintenance class, which I think it a must for a new sewing machine owner. I have also loved the events they have helped organize, like the winter market that featured various local makers, and the toiletry kit drive to benefit our neighbors in need. Most of all, I appreciate them making it crystal clear that their space is welcoming to ALL. Great community space and store, I cant imagine Inman Square without them!

My grandmother died this morning. My partner and I were scheduled to take a class. We spent months talking about sharing an activity like this and trying to find a wonderful local resource for it. We thought we found the answer in a beginners sewing class at Gather Here. When I found out my grandmother was dead this morning and that I needed to meet with family for funeral arrangements, I called and left a message that my grandmother had died and we would not be able to come in for the class. I asked to reschedule. I called back and spoke to someone on the phone a few hours later. They have a policy that they do not give refunds because they are a small business and I absolutely understand and respect that. They can reschedule class tickets but told me they would not because I didnt give them 72 hours notice. I told them I dont know how I was supposed to give them 72 hours notice that my grandmother was going to die. The person I spoke to said they would talk to the owners but that they historically have given zero exceptions so that they do not allow unconscious bias to sneak into their decision-making. The owners came back reaffirming that they would not accommodate us. They offered what felt like a slap in the face it of the materials and said we could come in and just use the machines to try and make things with the materials as of that was the point. If a small, supposedly community centric business hides behind unyieldingly rigid policy rather than taking an empathetic approach capable of managing situations like this then they have no right to call themselves community-centric. Attempting to unilaterally avoid bias via a zero tolerance policy as a way to be fair seems robotic and lazy at best and thoroughly dismissive or intentionally ignorant of human and community business complexity at worst. The condolences feel like nothing more than lip service. Im beyond stunned by how this was handled. This rigidity and faux compassion are so counter to everything I thought Gather Here stood for. This has been an incredibly negative situation and I cannot see myself supporting or recommending this business anytime soon.

Yes, this place really is that good. They sell a surprising variety of products for a smaller store, from fabric to yarn to needles. The young woman who worked the counter answered my three questions succinctly and helpfully (does the thread come in different weights, which needle should I use, and where can I find push pins?)They sell at reasonable prices, which are comparable to a national chain. They are switching it up and moving two blocks down the street soon, so dont be alarmed if you encounter an empty store front.Support a small business that encourages crafting and creativity.

Gather Here is a wonderful, community-building store that means so much to me and countless other people. The beautiful monthly window displays brighten up Inman Square. Every time you walk in the door youre met with warm greetings, friendly faces, and beautifully curated products for every craft project that you can think of. When you interact with the employees, they offer useful assistance and a genuine interest in what youre making. Ive taken so many classes there, from garment sewing to quilting (with Lizzy House!!!), knitting and long-arming. When my mom and I were due for new sewing machines, we got them there and it came with a free class to learn how to use our new machine (I love my Bernina!). Ive learned a lot, become a better crafter, and met some amazing friends through classes there. They also make a point to stand up for what they believe in, including fairly compensating their employees, stocking their store with products from small businesses that are made mindfully made, dedicating portions of their profits for charities, hosting events to make hygiene kits or warm winter accessories or sleeping mats for people in unstable housing in the local community and blankets for refugees, building a community among other small businesses in Inman Square, etc. I feel so lucky to have Gather Here as my local yarn/quilting/sewing/craftivism store!
