Moving here from Utah--where roads are wide and straight--I was pretty apprehensive about driving big U-Haul vehicles around the Boston area. Fortunately, U-Haul made the rental experience easy so that I could focus on the task at hand. The first day we rented a 9 van and the vehicle was new, clean, and far easier to drive than I expected. The second day we rented a 10 truck and, despite being an older and slightly longer vehicle than the van, it was just a easy to drive. Without U-Haul I dont know how we couldve picked up the dozen or so pieces of furniture that we bought locally on Facebook Marketplace, but now our apartment is furnished and wonderful. Furthermore, the associates who helped us at U-Haul were very friendly and capable, and the first day we rented, the employee helping us didnt charge us for any miles because of an error in the records (this saved us close to $40!). We loved working with this place.Two things to keep in mind if youre inexperienced driving big rigs like I was: 1) the suspension is very rough so youll want to package furniture carefully to avoid it getting jostled and damaged and 2) seeing behind you is a challenge because you cant look through your rear-facing windshield-mounted mirror. Be sure to adjust your side mirrors so that they offer a much rear visibility as possible.

Do not use for storage.The storage is on the second floor, but there is no elevator, only a ramp to drive up, without room to turn around at the top to turn around, so you must back down. Someone hit the garage door, and currently (July 2021) its broken and you cant use a car at all and must walk up and down the ramp with your stuff. There isnt parking on site, so you must park on the street, but often all of the spaces on the street are taken up by uhauls.Some storage units are stacked on top of each other, and the roller stairs are very rusted and have broken support beams. They are difficult to move around/turn and are not safe because of the broken steel supports that are intended to support your weight.There are often people using their storage unit as a place to hang out during the day and listen to the radio/relax/sit in a lawn chair in the hall. Evidently the facility has had a problem with people bringing food/beverages in because they have lots of signs up about it, but I still saw it happen.I would avoid this place at all costs.

It was easy and quick to get a van from here. The van was in good condition and this place is right next to a gas station and the subway. The prices were reasonable.The only thing that wasnt great was the after hours drop-off. Someone parked in front of the pull in entrance making it very hard.They have a web app based return which worked OK, but required many pictures, which was annoying when it was raining.

This is a conveniently located UHaul company. Drop off of the truck was straight forward. Staff dont seem thrilled to be there and could be speedier, but if you can be patient, this is an alright location. Also sells boxes, tape, packing materials (for small things all the way to mattress bags etc.).

Terrible service, the staff is so rude. They flat out rejected giving me help with simple things like where do i park the truck after hours, can you show me where the drop off box for keys are They even did not show me which truck to take until i begged them. Also refused to help with the E-return for after hours drop off and said that they are not familiar with how it is done online. Even the simplest things they refused to help with, I asked the lady what my contract number was and she said she did not know. Every question you ask they talk down or yell at you.

The store is like any other uhaul location. Pretty decent and the service was good.1 star docked due to the shortage of parking lots. Had to return the truck after hours and there was no space to park it. 2 adjoining lots are private and cannot put the truck there. Metered parking was also full. Had to park on the sidewalk finally.

TERRIBLE experience. I used the highly encouraged app to get my vehicle. I confirmed I could pick up two hours before opening multiple times. I arrived, found my vehicle, and found it parked in. I called the help number and she said there was nothing I could do but someone usually did arrive 30 mins early and could help me.I sat for 1.5 hours (while movers were already waiting for me at my house). A woman arrived 30 mins early and I explained the situation and she slammed the door in my face and told me they werent open. I continued to sit for 30 mins and watched as she moved almost every other vehicle except the 2 that were parking me in. FINALLY when they officially opened I could get my truck and found none of the moving equipment/blankets I reserved were in the truck. Instead of an apology. I was told they dont do app pick up even though I was ENCOURAGED TO DO SO with covid-19.When the items I requested were not in the vehicle I once again I asked for assistance and was directed to a pile of clearly dirty blankets (unacceptable esp with covid) on the ground which took me multiple trips to get into the vehicle. Meanwhile movers were at my apartment (and charging me) for over 2 hours. I called U-Haul twice and have emailed twice trying to get money back and keep being told I will hear back in two days, I dont. I call and am transferred before someone takes me name and hangs up again. I will NEVER be taking a u-haul truck again. I encourage you to use another service or at least another location.

These guys are awesome. Sept 1 is the most brutal day of the year in Boston, yet my man James was energetic, friendly, and accommodating all the way; totally above and beyond! They are pros, and know how to stay organized and handle the crunch. My drop-off was seamless and literally took 30 seconds. Well done!

Based on the location (very convenient to Central Square) and combo of truck rentals and storage, this place is worth looking into. I’ll up my rating to 4 stars based on the excellent attitude and service of one employee in particular, who’s name is James. He kindly re-parked a truck for me and amended my reservation and paperwork so I could return the truck early. He was a major help! So... hopefully you will be able to deal with him.

My man Ace provides exceptional service and helps you as much as possible to make sure you are taken care of. I left my airpods in the truck and it was safely stored and returned to me the next day. Folks in this store got no sense of customer service. Apparently this location has a requirement that international students need to show their passports along with their international licenses. And guess what? That information was never communicated to me. I had infact completed my online check-in and it still failed to tell me that. Do people really expect internationals to carry their passports around all the time?I requested them to cut me some slack since I had travelled from far, and Id have to travel all the way back to get my passport, but the woman didnt budge. Worst part was she had no compassion for my situation, and not even a single apology! I mean, the least you could say to your customer is sorry for the inconvenience maybe?

Ace, James, and sorry I forgot the womans name, were all very friendly and efficient. They had me in and out in no time at all. Picking up and dropping off are both very easy with their garage attached to the store. I will not hesitate to rent from U-Haul in Cambridge in the future. U-Haul charges by the day, which is much cheaper than home improvement stores who charge by the hour.

We came to boston to visit and rented a trailer for a couple days and needed some help with a hitch, one gentleman was very friendly and helpful the other gentleman was flat out rude, poor experience, would not recommend this location. I mean i dont expect 5 star dining, its a uhual, but they were just subpar and not helpful... also brought the trailer back early and received no refund. Would give 0 stars if i could !!

Very convenient location. You know what the trucks are.My experience of the staff here are horrendous. I rented a truck and the service I received across pick-up and after the rental was terse and unhelpful. I was charged two fees that I did not understand, and the answer on the phone was essentially thats on you when I tried to understand them. Highly recommend against the online check in system, as my experience was that it will be used tack on as many fees as possible.Look, if you can use a different location do it. A lot of time, youll have to use this one. Brace yourself.

My son and I had a 10 foot truck and auto transport trailer reserved. One of the Cambridge associates, Ace took the time to make sure that we correctly and safely hooked up the auto transport trailer and vehicle. We could not of done it without his help. We were very impressed!

I had a great experience renting from here to move some stuff from one place in Central to another today. Although the line was long when we got there, it moved quickly. The van was brand new with only 100 miles on it and we had a very quick and easy experience with pick-up and drop-off. For an in town move U-Haul is quite a steal, since your mileage will be low. The owner helped me both times.

Amazingly helpful people. While returning the uhaul I locked the keys in the vehicle. They spent nearly an hour of their time to unlock the vehicle which they didnt need to. The could have easily just charged me the unlock fee but instead put in some time and effort and it really went a long way. I highly recommend these guys .

Installed a trailer hitch here with Chris. He is excellent. There was an issue with cable and we have to back to Lexus. The Lexus quoted me $2000+ since we dont have towing prep package on our car. Back to Chris, he installed the wiring equipment for us in only around $200+

I was put off initially by the poor reviews I saw for this location, but hey, It was convenient for my move so I just went with it. BIG mistake. My experience was the same as the customer who returned the truck right around closing. The U-Haul employee at the counter instructed me to pull into the garage. As I walked out to the curb, in the pouring rain, he pulled the garage door shut right in front of me, locked up and ran to his car. When I waved him down to get his attention he yelled over his shoulder to find metered parking on the street and sped away. WTF?

Beyond slow to service customers. I came solely for a storage unit and ended up waiting over an hour. In high season they seem to be understaffed and it makes it extremely time consuming to complete a basic transaction. By the time they serviced me I barely had time to unload when I’d left 1 hour on a meter. Wish they had a more efficient means of working with customers. I’m currently in the store and there are NO employees to be seen.

I was very pleased with my two experiences at U haul. The line can get a bit long sometimes, specially in August when lots of people are moving out in the city. But the price of the trucks is very reasonable, they have a good selection, and there is an after-hours return available.

Hello everyone, if you are renting a U-Haul trucks/vans or any vehicle, make sure to take the picture of mileage, gas and exterior on your phone when you get the vehicle and also when you drop off, specially if you are returning after store hours to have proof separately than their contract. They are over-charging people for either miles, gas or damage. If you have the proof then you might have a fight to resolve or you have to go through hassle of calling, being on the phone or in person and no result. When i was there, the person who was helping me was talking to other employees not paying attention what i am saying and didnt explain me anything properly. I rented a truck for few hours and only drove 5 miles but they charged me for 75 miles, when i called they were rude and no result. I saw another review with the same issue, hope she got her issue resolved. I am trying to contact the manager but no response. 😕😑😤

Really terrible experience -- possibly the worst Ive had as a customer. I reserved a truck on the website to be picked up after hours via self pick-up. When I arrived, the app returned an error. I spent the next two hours on the phone with different customer service representatives as they told me different ways to fix it, none of which worked. It turns out, the manager of the location never actually assigned me the truck, despite my reservation going through. I never got my truck.Advice for improvement:1. There is no excuse for letting a reservation go through without a vehicle being assigned. That needs to be fixed.2. If an error returns, please call this 24h number, someone should be on the other end. Chris never picked up.3. Customer service should understand the error messages returned from the app. The error messages should also be much more descriptive Sorry, there was an error on our end is not helpful for either party.4. Customers should be able to request to speak with the same customer service representative.5. Customer service representative should leave better notes on the file.

This location only has 2 employees working on a moving rush day. Waited 20 minutes to get a truck I already ordered, and the online check-in didn’t work because the cargo van I was assigned online was 5 deep in the parking lot.Next time I move in-town I’ll just rent a Zipcar van.

I have been going to the Cambridge Uhaul location for several years for all of my storage and trucking needs. The staff is friendly, helpful, and pays close attention to detail. The manager, Bonnie, has been especially supportive and always finds solutions to my trucking problems. She always knows the best way to fix any computer/ scheduling errors in a quick and efficient way. I was running late to pick up a truck one evening and the store had already started closing up. Bonnie saw me from outside and cordially greeted me at the door before helping me get a truck. My evening would have been a disaster if I didnt have access to a truck that night. Bonnie and her crew run a clean, welcoming, and friendly shop that makes you feel like part of the neighborhood and they are always willing to go the extra mile.

There was a woman working that was very nice, but there were some dudes that were totally creepy and kept asking my girlfriend questions about moving which I understand can just be engaging with customers but it was to much. Just beware that you might get hit on by the guys here.

It takes a while to fill out the paperwork to rent a vehicle, but the staff is friendly and willing to help make things work for you. You just have to be patient while waiting in line. Best bet is to reserve ahead of time on the internet to make sure there are trucks available. It gets busy here with all the students around. Check in afterwards was a breeze and no hassle at all. Ill use these guys again.

Hopeless lazy employees. Got called out for being 15 minutes late (in the past I’ve waited an hour past the scheduled pickup time for a Uhaul truck). Employee basically left my equipment (more than one person could carry) on the ground and told me where my truck was. The truck ended up being blocked in and all the equipment I bought got wet. Was not given any instructions on how the vehicle worked (the truck was 11 feet high) or details on how to drop it off. Consider alternatives if you need to rent a truck.

Dont ever use U-Haul. I was moving to my new apartment and needed to use the highway. I asked the rental agent if the truck was equipped with EZ-pass and he said to just go through the tolls and I will get charged. 11 months later my credit card was charged over $100 for $5 worth of tolls. After calling the location I rented the truck from, being connected with customer service in Arizona, and then equipment recovery, NO ONE could tell me how those exorbitant were calculated and they recommend I take it up with Massachusetts Dept of Transportation. This is not customer service, its really customer disservice. Lesson learned, pay your own tolls.

I was given a truck with a quarter tank of gas and told to bring it back with a quarter tank. Im not sure how I was supposed to measure that I filled up the truck precisely to a quarter tank.I was also charged twice for my reservation and a third charge popped up for $191 for damage! The truck was undamaged and when I confronted the manager about it he told me I was lying and it wasnt until I asked him for evidence of damage to the truck that he went and looked at the truck and said there was no damage. Instead of refunding me the charges he charged me again! I had to call the corporate customer service to get it straightened out. All for a 2 hour $35 rental.I would never recommend anyone use Uhaul after that experience. Stick with Penske.

I rented a trailer from Uhaul in December. During the move we entered a light rain and it flooded the trailer causing significant water damage to our furniture. I called Uhaul upon discovering this and they sent me to Repwest to file a claim. After filing the claim it took over 3 weeks for me to be contacted after sending numerous emails and calls trying to find what the status was, Repwest said I would be contacted in 2 days after filing the claim. When I finally made contact the adjuster denied the claim immediately as they do not insure water damage. I tried contacting Uhaul after the claim was denied and was told a manager would contact me immediately. After 2 weeks I had not received a call from a manager and tried calling again and was bounced around several times until I demanded to talk to a manager and was called back 2 hours later. I understand they do not state the trailer is water proof but my furniture would have been safer covered in a tarp instead of a Uhaul trailer as the water stayed in the trailer. The service I received from Uhaul was terrible and trying to find any answer from them was terrible. I believe they didnt return calls or emails to push me out as far as possible to forget about the incident. I would never recommend Uhaul to anyone. Their customer service is the worst I have ever dealt with even compared to Comcast. They did not once offer to help with anything and instead made me play a waiting game. Rude, dismissive, disrespectful, and incompetent are too generous for the staff and service provided at this location. U-Haul at Central Square attempted to install a hitch on my vehicle for which I paid $366 in advance. Instead, they caused significant damage ($600+ repair fees) when the mechanic attempted installation and couldnt correct his mistake. This is a simple installation that shouldnt have rendered my vehicle un-drivable. I dropped my vehicle off as scheduled on Saturday and now its the following week and I still dont have my vehicle. The reason being, after shorting out my electrical transmissions, the Owner (as his U-Haul nametag states) and general manager (as his business card states), attempted to fix the situation. This Owner is NOT A LICENSED MECHANIC yet he felt license to behave as such by attempting to jab at my break line with a screw driver causing even more damage. My vehicle had to be towed out of the station to a legitimate repair center ($150) They are ignoring my emails and phone calls. They owe full reimbursement for the cost of this installation and full payment for my tow and repair fees. They are unsafe and uncaring and considering the quality of my service- they are a tremendous risk to all drivers.

They charged me for 42 miles even though I drove 5 or 6. Multiple calls to this location did not solve the issue, and had to call corporate uHaul customer care. They could not get a hold of either the store or the owner, even though they showed as working. Ended up having to waste an afternoon on hold to solve the issue.

Giving Uhaul 1 star is a stretch. I reserved a truck (several weeks in advance) for the end of May and requested an early AM pick-up time. I verbally confirmed trucks would be available before/around 8am since I had movers scheduled to arrive at 9am. A day before our move, I received an email that the truck would be available at 12:30pm. I spoke to an incredibly rude and unhelpful customer service rep who told me there were absolutely no trucks available in the greater Boston area before 12:30pm. Uhaul seems to have a horrible truck rental scheduling system and awful customer service. In comparison our experience with Budget has been amazing.

I didnt have too much trouble here. I was really only concerned that after reserving a van, when I showed up to pick it up I was told, Let me just check to see if we have a van available, as if my reservation did not guarentee that I got a van. But, the online reservation is free, and it expedites the process. If you have the return time of 5 like me, I suggest you get there on time. I made it at 4:59:30, and they were in the process of closing the door. They are not the kind of place that closes early, but also they do not close late. Other than that, the van was in good condition, ran well, and did its job nicely. It saved me a lot of work. Another note, although its advertised as $19.95 for a rental, after the milelage fee and the $11 dollar insurance, it will likely work out to something around $35 or $40. In addition, they require a deposit that will boost the up front cost, but you will get that back after returning the vehicle. With the deposit, it worked out to $80 up front, but after recieving the deposit back, the entire service only cost me $40.

This is a HORRIBLE facility for storage. You have to back in to a narrow space uphill for two floors. After a couple of horrifing bumper experiences, I just started parking on the street and lugging out things one piece at a time. (The available parking is also not really close to the building.) The worst is that you cannot cancel your space online--you have to go in physically and tell them you are done.

Worst experience I ever had!! I waited for an hour in the line to get my truck, and the ONLY staff at the counter was unfamiliar with their own system. When I got the receipt, they mistakenly charged me twice and the ridiculous part was that they did not know how to give me a refund. I had to dispute through my bank to end the nightmare.

Very bad customer service, bad rental schedule, not clear about the rules, they charged me more for miles I didnt use. Ill never use Uhaul again
