Such an awesome local bookseller. If they dont have it, they can get it in two days usually. Thats equivalent to Amazons prime delivery. They offer curbside pick up if needed. Jeff is a great resource at the store and you have to love the cat that roams the shop. They have a great kids selection.

I LOVE all the books I bought, that Randy Watts wrote of all theCumberland County fire company histories. I dont know what I would have done if I never knew about this bookstore being in Carlisle. I like how books are on display in the window to what is available to see and buy. Whistlestop Book has any books you want and GREAT PRICES!!!

When I was a kid, my dad took me here all the time, and I still have some of those books to this day. Dont listen to that other guys review-- it is absolutely a welcoming place for kids (Hello! there is a huge childrens book and teen section), and I spent a lot of time here as a young kid. Working at Whistlestop was one of my first jobs in high school, and later when I was in college I ordered a few books through Whistlestop as well. Since then Ive stopped in to browse and request a few books as well, and Ive never been disappointed. Jeff Wood, the owner, is to this day one of the best bosses Ive had the pleasure of working for; hes always so friendly and extremely helpful. Whistlestop is one of the most well organized and stocked bookshops of its size Ive ever been to. Jeff can order anything youd like if you call ahead, and prices are pretty low. The last time I ordered a book it was the same price on Amazon, came in within a few days, and made me happier to support a local business. Go check it out! They often have other little things besides books, like local art and trinkets, that make wonderful gifts as well.

This is a wonderful place full of wonderful people. The prices, though not cheap side, are not unreasonable and are completely worth it for the friendly service you receive. It is a really nice small town bookshop with a fantastic owner. The owner makes a point to come into the theater class and help out. He is extremely knowledgeable and a wonderful person.

Cozy shop that seems to have very book Ive ever looked for whether current or classic, cooking or history, children or young adult, annotated or break beat poetry. How do they do that??? The owner is very knowledgeable and has made excellent, informed suggestions when I am searching for gifts. His expertise is thorough and so valuable--thats why I shop locally. They also have a cool selection of literary themed gifts like tees and book bags. And local honey!

This little bookshop is so much more refreshing compared to larger super bookstores. Theres no Starbucks here, just walls and walls of great reading and trinkets. Its family owned, well stocked with books, has beautiful displays for children of both classic and new popular books. The store itself is beautiful, decorated whimsically for different seasons and holidays. The owner is wonderfully helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. If they dont have what youre looking for, theyll get it for you. This classic little shop is definitely worth a visit!

A little hole-in-the-wall but well-kept. Nice selection. Beautiful part of town. Handy to Carlisle street fairs. A little pricey but not bad for in City.Carlisle is a great place by the way - a town like America doesnt see much anymore. You should stop in even if youre blowing through on I-76 or I-81. And no I dont work for them. Its a college town - great for kids - tons of activities. In particular watch for street fairs and one of the biggest best car shows up and down the East Coast.

I was in Whistlestop yesterday. We have visitors from Belgium this weekend, and whenever we have visitors who are interested in books, Whistlestop Bookshop is a must-see stop in Carlisle. The bookstore was crowded with shoppers, and everyone seemed happy to be there. My group of four was looking at the shirts that are dedicated to famous novels. Our Belgium visitors knew many of the featured books, but they were unfamiliar with Goodnight Moon. We headed straight to the Childrens Section, and I read them the entire book, in well under 5 minutes, pointing out, of course, my favorite things in the pictures. Its something I was comfortable doing in this very welcoming bookstore.

Interesting selection. Not just books. Also cards and other book related gift items. Shop keeper seemed disengaged unless you were a local/regular. Didnt acknowledge my presence or greet my friend and I when we walked in. The next person received a hearty hello. They had made previous purchases per their conversion. Slightly off putting. You would think a small store would welcome customers. I did smile at shop keeper with no response.

This a fantastic hidden gem on the Carlisle main strip down High Street. They have a good selection for a small local book shop with an extra back room full of fiction/fantasy/Sci-fi and more. They also have a great childrens section in front that we use to treat our daughter after walking around downtown. Definitely a fun stop in!
