We love MCL and frequent the Castleton location. We were disappointed with the Carmel location. The highchairs for our toddler were gross. They were all wet as if they’d been sprayed with water but all still had food stuck to them. We almost turned around and left immediately but our other kids were too excited to eat so we just opted to hold our youngest. They ran out of fried chicken legs for our other kids and apparently couldn’t cook any more. The other entrees tasted as if they’d been frozen and heated in a microwave. The person I’m assuming is the manager was working the register. Felt very rushed. Had to ask for help to carry our trays which seemed odd as were both holding small children and it was fairly obvious we’d need help. The overall restaurant is in need of a deep cleaning. Our hostess/waitress was kind and helpful; this is the only reason for the second star.I understand many businesses in this sector are understaffed and struggling. However, prices are going up, salaries aren’t, and this location will not be getting any more money from my family.
Please for the love of God, never eat here. The service was fine. Steve was very kind but the Food is soooo bad. No seasoning. None. Everything bland af. I got the roast beef and fried fish and green beans and mashed potatoes, a side salad and coconut cream pie came up to be able $24. I went big Bc i wanted to get a since of the spread. Just dont waste your time. You cant really mess up mashed potatoes those were okay with enough salt and gravy but every thing else was a big disappointment. It was suitable for the pallet of an old white couple. Every other table was old white couples and that makes sense. Its soft, mild, lukewarm food. Unremarkable in every way. But as a young person Of color I’m used to some spice, some kick something ANYTHING INTERESTING. This ain’t it chief. My god what a waste of time and money.never again
I like that they have more choices on their buffet. Much more than the other 2 MCLs that Ive visited. The food was tasty and you could tell it was homemade. Large portions
A great cafeteria style restaurant. The food has always been good. A very nice dining experience. We always stop here when we are in this part of the city.
Grilled Prime Rib with sautéed mushrooms and Mashed potatoes with dark gravy it was Wonderful . Wife had Chicken and Noodles with New Potatoes simmered in butter she loved it .Exquisite.
First time customers, mashed potatoes tasted like they were instant potatoes. Mac and cheese no better. We did love the fried chicken the rolls and the Harvard Beets. Steve our server was very attentive and personable.
Good home style food. Good chocolate cake. Great tea.
Staff and owners are exceptional!Food is great comfort food. Reminds me of home.
The good things about MCL: Variety of selection - not too wide, but not too narrowQuality of food - all made well and always the same.Price - reasonable for what you are getting. The less good: if its your first time there youll be overwhelmed and have no real idea what you are paying for and end up spending more than what you thought.
Great restaurant food was hot and delicious and customer service...
I have never been to MCL until a few days ago when I took my elderly Dad there on his excursion from the nursing home. MCL is the kind of place whos got a pretty decent reputation or so I have been told. But, this was awful! I ordered a coffee and it was old and acidic tasting. I ordered the mac and cheese and it was barely acceptable and it was the most edible thing on my plate. I got broccoli with cheese sauce and the broccoli was warm and not cooked through. The cheese sauce was runny as water and tasteless. I also chose a Rueben sandwich which was also not that good! I do not know what is up with this! A waiter did come around and I asked for a new fresh cup of coffee and he did bring back fresh tasting coffee, but the one given at the counter was BAD. The hot deli at the grocery store does a superior job compared to MCL. I would rate 1 star but the restaurant is clean and the service was ok. But the main part of the restaurant -- food -- wasnt acceptable. I didnt eat most of the food because I couldnt. I dont know if I can ever get myself to go back.
Cold green beans, chicken undercooked, rolls and cake were good. Very disappointed. $30.00 not worth the cost
It depends on who cooks on what day. Sometimes its very good and other times its ok.
Fast friendly helpful cashier and line order takers along with manager everyone was awesome and respectful 😀
Good comfort food. Lots of sugar, fat and butter. Taste great, but dont expect to lose weight.
Drove from Lafayette to eat here and they didnt disappoint. I miss Lafayette MCL but at least we have a solid alternative.
We always love this place. Tonight it was chicken potpie for hubby and cabbage and sausage for me. Oh, and the deviled eggs! Dont forget the deviled eggs! Yummy!
Been here many times for meals and carryouts. Everything as expected. The carryout service is fairly efficient and meals packaged well. Chicken and noodles, fried chicken are standards. Beef manhattan. Nice large handled paper bag. Sometimes the old ways are still best.
MCL never fails to provide a delishous meal just like home cooking. Thank you!
Food was pretty good.Staff was friendly and helpful.Prices are too high for what you get.Not a good value at all.I only got one side, and NO dessert. She got two sides and a dessert, and we drank water. Two poeple could have eaten at a nicer restaurant for less than the $35.00 we spent at MCL cafeteria.
Always perfect what you expect and enjoy from a great cafeteria.
I really dislike the food, it all tastes like mush. This is a place for the elderly to go, not hip at all. I would never go if I was not dragged here. The building itself is very pretty, wish the dining experience matched.
Very good food and service.
Great for toddlers. Wide selection of food, no long wait after ordering or to get a check, and isnt a fast food restaurant.
Cafeteria style with good food. I like the liver and onions. Service was excellent. Waiter refilled my drink several times.
Very rude service. I will not be back.
I love a good cafeteria because you can pick what you want. Theres a senior discount from 2pm to 5pm. They always have a good selection of vegetables. I can always find something I like. Not a gourmet place, but they have a solid selection of entrees and salads as well as desserts. I am a fan of the sugar cream pie, which is only available in the Indianapolis area.
I always stop here on my way to New Albany. Food is always excellent and the service is great.
Very quiet, good choices, hot foods hot. Service excellent
Good quality hot fresh food. Cafeteria style service. Prices in my opinion are extreme for restaurant style. Prices are more in line with a sit down waitress service restaurant, than a cafeteria style line.
I love it there spaghetti was amazing sitting area great! The food there was also so filling. But they got the price mixed up and charged us 20.67 but the real price was 18.13 but, we told them and fixed it. The bathroom floors were kinda stinky.
The food is defiantly better than most restaurants but wholly cow are they expensive. Great restaurant food that is just like you made it at home and the pies are fabulous but wow, expensive, everything on the menu. Although the cake and pie are great, about $2.50-$4 per slice. $26 for a whole cake to take home. Who would pay $26 for a cake? So a small salad around $2. An entree around $5. A side around $2.50. Pie around $2.50 and an ice tea around $2.50. You are looking at $15/person IF you stay on the cheap end of everything.
Good food for the price.
Very clean, friendly. Mgr friendly. Helpful, lots of food for the money
Its MCL. Its not great. Its not awful. The staff was awesome. The food was MCL.
Great food & Staff !!! Rick & Rod are Amazing there.
Great atmosphere and our waiter was super friendly and the quality of the food was exceptional. Only complaints were that the cashier was short with me, the selection of food was basic to put it lightly and I couldnt understand a word the servers were saying. Its hard enough to understand broken English, top that off with trying understand it through a mask and you might as well just guess the words. Go on a Mon, Tues, or Weds with the kids and they eat free. Otherwise your going to pay an arm and a leg. Its ridiculously high. 46$ for my daughter and I. Its insane.
My stuffed chicken, green beans& mashed potatoes were absolutely delicious! My mom loves the chicken fried chicken from Cracker Barrel! I’d absolutely love if you can make chicken fried chicken home made& Serve it!
Just as we remembered for years gone by...the food and staff are fantastic!
Very good and filling food. I loved it.
The food was amazing! My first visit, and I wanted to get the same thing I had for dinner to go.. its caffitwria style food, exceptionally prepared and fresh! Deserts are amazing too
Food was good except they charge for everything separately. Which gets expensive.
Friendly, helpful and good food, good portions.
Good home cooking. I still love their cinnamon rolls. Friendly staff . It is very reasonable priced for all the food you get. If you like cafeteria style food you will love this place.
Delicious lunch..
Nice selection, the food was bland. Manager was running the cashier and rude. Server was polite.
Love the good ol cookin.
Very disappointed. INSTANT mashed potatoes, poor quality. Everything was ala carte and expensive. Just my wife and I and over $40 for a meal that should not have cost more than $15. We should have gone to Sahms or Texas Roadhouse. We would have had a much superior menu and experience. Cold food and not very clean!
Incredible food and a loving and warm atmosphere. Extremely under-rated business and absolutely deserves more customers.
The kids loved the food options. Quiet and relaxed atmosphere. A little over priced, but the kids would want to go back.
Hadnt been for a long time. There were many options and everything was tasty. Staff was very friendly and helpful. It is set up for family dining. We went when really quiet.
Really really good food, reasonable, fantastic variety, clean, great friendly staff. Senior citizens like us only eat where food is good, they were here.
Great selection of food though the salad selection was sparse (Covid-19 restrictions).
Delicious food but very high prices. But what really made me rate 2 stars, they do not have handicap accessible bathrooms. A regular size wheelchair will not even fit through the bathroom doorways. And the staff did not seem very concern about the problem.
Not worth the individual pricing of cold food, not worth the sticky tables, the only thing that was good was the bottle of water. Buyer beware .
Food was really good! Got Monday Blue Plate Special: fried chicken with 2 sides and bread (had mashed potatoes/gravy & green beans with cloverleaf roll). All that for $8.99 - which is cheap for MCL 😃😙🤑
Food and service was good. Clean. Social distanced.
Great selections of all parts of dinner, food tastes fresh & delicious, service was spot on
I guess this place felt better when I was a kid. If your old then you probably love it. For the price there are better places but if you want a quiet atmosphere this is an alright spot, on account of the old people, so man old people...
This MCL is amazing. The server I like personally is Josh. He is very fast and attentive. He is very sweet. If you visit this location look for a tall handsome man with glasses named Josh. You wont be dissapointed. The food is hot as well. Good food for the price :)
I have not been to this location personally but I have had food delivered to a friend and his wife that were having a hard time with medical issues. When I called i reached a young woman named Destinay. I explained the situation and specific dietary needs and she put together a week worth of meals and handled everything from the order to the delivery. She went above and beyond and so far the food is being thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks so much!
Cold and tasteless food☹️
Food was very good .
Food was very good. Choices were great, service after we sat down was very nice! Place was busy, but clean and its very spacious inside.
Good food and friendly employees
Good food. Beware you will want everything and the prices add up. If you like leftovers for the following day this works well
Food was wonderful, staff was super friendly and attentive. Not as busy as I thought it would be for a Saturday afternoon, (there were only 6 other guests) I hope this place makes it through covid, it would be a shame if it closed.
Good food/Restrooms could be cleaner/Need to make coffee refills more convenient!
My visit was well worth the 45 minute drive! The portions were perfect and the food tasted home cooked. Just like mamas :) Our server was Molly, her service was beyond exceptional she treated my wife and kids so well and special that my son says he want to go see Molly. It’s a good family place with great food and a very special server!!
The service and food was very good. I was however dismayed with the ladies restroom. It needs cleaning from top to bottom especially the walls and doors of the stalls. Im still cringing over going in there so it colored my experience. Our waitress was outstanding and everyone was very kind and helpful.
Their food is delicious
First time here tonight with my family. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food selection and taste was amazing! Were definitely coming back soon .
Awesome food and service! Aly was the best server, she really took care of us. The manager more than made up for us not getting a chicken leg that I wanted, but couldnt get out to us in a timely manner. Highly recommend this MCL! Food could be warmer, but we did get there late and close to closing time.
I had a very good teriyaki shrimp stir fry. And OMG!... The most decadent Eclairs in America!
This is a great place to go if you want to know what its like to live in a retirement home. There are several tables of old ladies playing cards taking up all the tables. Ive had it with eating inside. From know on, Im getting carry out. The food is good and the menu changes every day.
Went with several family members for lunch . Good food and good size portions. You wont be disappointed.
Food was very good. Fried chicken, Lima beans, coconut pie. I hate that they have people trying to wait on you for drink refills & taking trays. Let us do our own
The staff are very friendly and offer excellent service. Great food selection and tastes like a home cooked meal!
Wonderful All Around! I took my elderly relatives here for lunch after a doctors appointment. The turkey and dressing was divine. But even more impressive was the staff. From the servers to the dining room, the staff was friendly, patient with us and so quick to respond and so helpful. We felt so well cared for at our visit. The staff all seem to enjoy each other and working there and that attitude carried over into such a nice experience for the patron. Thank you for a wonderful pre-Thanksgiving lunch. We will be back again!
The costumer service was phenomenal! They made sure that our experience was lovely.
Well prepared, good selection, proper portion size, fast in and out. This is not a fast food restaurant. Its inexpensive compared to traditional eatery with same menu.
Don’t listen to the food CriticsThis is the best home Cookin in the State of Indiana. It’s not a 5 star high class restaurant as it’s your basic cafeteria but it deserves 5 stars for food and staff friendliness, cleanliness. I continue to go to this place and it never gets old.
Have to love MCL. Always great food and servers. Something for everyone. Home cooking better than you can cook at home
Food was great great customer service
Love MCLs food. Tastes like homemade.
Comfort food reasonably priced. Nothing fancy, just generally good eating. And dont forget the yummy pies & the strawberry shortcake dessert (in season).
Soooooo good
Great food in a consistent quality. The people that work here are the absolute nicest people of any restaurant. Still a great value with awesome Selections and great weeknight specials
Expensive as far as cafeteria style goes. I had steak ($10) with grilled mushrooms ($3) and two sides was $18.44. Luckily, a nice lady in front of me gave me a coupon for a free $5 dessert. The food is very good and excellent service. Next time, and there will be a next time, Ill stick with the special.
My church recently hosted a dinner following a funeral for the brother of one of our members. We needed a good meal on short notice to serve about 50 people. The website had a lot of good information that helped us figure things out quickly, and the manager we ordered from was very helpful in guiding what would work well for our situation. The food was ready on time and easy to transport. We had lots of compliments on the food. It was a good experience all around. The catering experience was exceptional, and I would highly recommend them. The food is definitely basic American comfort food.
Great food! Friendly staff!
Great food and service
Just not worth the price. Dated atmosphere. The Mac and cheese is a step below kraft.
Love the MCL...I have been visiting different locations for 35 years since I was a small child. This last experience was below average. We arrived a little after 5 on Monday evening. Everything looked yummy but once we got seated and dug in...the chicken was not hot almost cold and was dry. Which is disappointing because I always choose dark meat..its hard to dry out dark meat! The macaroni and cheese was too aldente and bland and the broccoli was not cooked long enough. I couldnt eat most of it..the cheese was runny and all over my plate. And last but not least the roll was NOT fresh by any means. All in all very disappointing. The highlight of the visit though was seeing my old boss bussing tables. 😁
Our family (kids ages 1-6) LOVES MCL! They have fresh, great quality home cooking and a wonderful selection of pies that is a must if you visit!
The food is great and has a good selection. The staff was friendly and their was no wait. I would come back.
Great fried chicken and chicken parmigiana! Best coconut cream pie in the universe!
