I had an amazing experience coming in and seeing all the amazing retro video game consoles! This place can also feel like a mini museum. Its great that a place like this exists and it helps our kids to see what kinds of older games we used to have around. This place is great for PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, Nintendo 64, SNES, NES, DS, GameBoy, etc. They also carry modern game titles/consoles such as Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. Overall very satisfied with the customer service. I sincerely wish this shop great success and the ability to expand further. Please make a shop near Downtown Sacramento.
I took my broken PS4 in for repair, the service was fast and my PS4 works better than it did before. I would highly recommend this business to anyone having issues with their gaming consoles and they have a great selection of old school games and new games. Its a gamers paradise . A+ service
Excellent customer service. Shelby was awesome. Great remodel. Lots of awesome games. Blown away by what vintage and rare games sell for but that is the market. Wish I had $5,000 to spend. Great staff. Awesome place. Highly recommended.
Quick easy fair. Nice people. Lots to go look at as well.
Great game store. Large selection of multiple game systems They also resurfaced a dvd that I brought in and made it look brand new. 😊
Love this place. Has a great selection of older games. No where better to buy games.
My husband and I quickly became regulars at this place. The staff is always super friendly and very knowledgeable about current and fluctuating inventory. The seem to regularly carry rarer titles and its such a treat to see. Their other merch like bags, prop weapons, and puzzles is very diverse too and quality stuff. I will always be recommending Fair Game for any style of gamer.
Huge collection of retro games that is incredibly impressive. Minus one star for pretty high prices.
This place is awesome. Games that cant be found anywhere else, reasonable prices, and expert recovery services. An old GameCube game of mine (FE: Path of Radiance), was skipping constantly and now works like new. So happy we found this place!
Nice people, varied game selection, great music choice for the shop. They always have new stock coming in, and they carry rare items if you’re a collector. They also work with you if you have questions or issues with an item. It’s worth the visit if you’re an avid game collector, or just a casual player. They really do have something for everyone.
Went to turn in some games and recieved decent value. Very nice, helpful and informative staff. Helped me with all my questions.
Excellent inventory. Clean and well organized store. Fair prices.
Top tier used video game store. Old and new they got it. Nice employees who will answer any and all questions. Very good inventory. Highly recommend.
Its a very neat shop with some cools things to find at an affordable price. However one problem I have with this place is that many of the items are overpriced greatly, especially the higher end items which are priced at least 30-40% more than what the item is actually worth. In my opinion youre better off finding the same item on Mercari or eBay for a more reasonable price.
I brought in a high value Gamecube disc to be resurfaced. Great job, 10 mins, looking brand new.
Great selection across pretty much all generations of games. Staff was very friendly and helpful as well. However, their prices are horribly inflated. Pretty much any game or console they have is double the price you will find on eBay or other marketplaces for an identical product. For example, a complete Twilight Princess for GameCube sells for around $120 but theirs are priced at over $200, and a loose copy of Pokémon Red goes for roughly $50 but theirs is priced at over $80. If their prices were more reasonable, this would be a fantastic place to find games.
Hands down my favorite video game store around. Great service and great products.
I visited for the first time in approximately six months today and was sad to see that Fair Game has decided it’s more important to have a ton of great inventory than remotely fair pricing. Everyone knows you can’t have both in the retro game market, but historically Fair Game always had prices in line with eBay, Pricecharting. Now in many cases it’s close to 50% more than what you would pay on eBay. For example, the sticker price on Rule of Rose is $915. There’s absolutely zero precedent for that game selling for $915. It’s a 47% markup from current Pricecharting. I’m sure the owners will just blame pandemic pricing or whatever, but this is now far and away the most expensive retro store I’ve ever been in. It’s a great museum, you’ll see tons of games you never see anywhere else, but you’d be foolish to buy it from them. The staff are nice and the place is aesthetically pleasing. I hope the owners/management see the error of their ways soon and get back to being honest.
Cody is the best! We love this store. It’s fun and inviting, great layout.
Great customer service and products. Im not a big gamer but nobody makes me feel unwelcome for not knowing what Im talking about. 10/10 game store with a great selection.
An amazing store, with an amazing staff. So many great games, it is hard not to walk out broke. And they do trade ins for store credit. This place is awesome!
Great friendly knowledgeable staff! Good turn in deals and great location
Fantastic experience as always got snatcher complete in Box for the sake of CD along with a couple of other things I was looking for in great condition as always
I love going to this place because it brings back a lot of childhood memories and I feel at peace when I’m there. I’d definitely work there if they’re hiring right now.
Good games. Horrible horrible prices. They had Pokémon xd GameCube for 270 disc only which is a joke of a price it’s worth 170 COMPLETE with case and manual.
They always great people w a smile an tell them about any special sales going on
Genuinely helpful staff. Patient and answered all of my questions. Great selection.
Good firendly customer service. The remodel looks good. My only issue is the prices!!! Ive been coming here when they first opened and prices were fair. I understand retro gaming has become popular and taken off but paying $20-$300 for a video that cost $3-$20 a few years ago is insane. Its becoming not affordable like lots of things these days. The new systems are cheaper to play instead of the 35 year old systems. Its crazy. However, the selection is awesome. The customer service is the best Ive ever experienced and they have everything..if they dont they can get it. Ill be a customer for as long as they are around. With quality comes a price. And with all these scammers out there trying to sell you you repros, I know buying a game from fair game will be working and legit. If not, they will take it back. Jist like theyve done for me a couple times. Thanks guys!
Awesome store!! Staff are super cool and knowledgeable.
Love coming here and browsing while getting discs repaired, I always leave with something.
Simply amazing service! They managed to fix my Switch Lite Joystick at an amazing price and were very fast. If you have any classic video game needs they are the place to go!
Great place. Kind staff ready to answer any question you have to the best of there ability.
The staff here have an important task: preserving our childhood. All the fun games we enjoyed playing, the great memories with family and friends over a console, it’s all right here. From the moment you walk into the store, it’s nostalgic, each staff member thouroughly knows their stuff and will meet your personal needs. You’ll find what you’re looking for and more, and if not, it’ll be ordered for you. Fair Game is a league above ...
Fair Game is a nice place to shop & get retro games, & Awesome Friendly Customer Service to. I shop at Fai Game a lot & have been since March of 2003
Great staff! Awesome place for rare finds.
It sells old video games. Stores like this are like the shiny Pokemon equilivant of gamestop
I have been to Fair Game many times. Always worth the trip, even if for just taking a trip down memory lane. Great store and staff is helpful.
The employees at Fair Games Retro are very friendly and knowledgeable. They cleaned up my PS4 so it runs very quietly now.
Very friendly and knowledgeable. Best place to go if you’re looking for retro games.
The staff are always helpful and happy to help
Lower your prices or perish the same way all game stores do. I bought a copy of pokemon crystal for $20 at half price books. Fair games sells it for $100 despite the fact you can get it online for $10
A cool little slice of gaming in Carmicheal. They have a cool selection with really chill staff, even if I cant afford some of the rarer ones.
I was able to get a lot of store credit bringing a lot of random games an hardware over to those guys, I was able to find a whole lot of rare and hard to find video games, And if they keep growing at this rait... they will probably become the spiritual successors to dimple records!
My whole family loves this place. We go here all the time. They are friendly & very helpful. They have low prices also.
Very satisfied customer. Mailed in some GameCube Discs for resurfacing. The turnaround time was super, the price was reasonable, and the discs look great. I will for sure be sending more discs in the future and will be telling all my friends about this service. Thanks guys!
They are always helpful and nice. Love the store.
Stopped in today for the first time not really sure what I was looking for and happen across two games from my childhood that I want to play again, and even though there was no PS2 controllers that wont stop me from coming back when Im ready to pick up my super Nintendo and my GameCube again. Such a great selection from almost any console you could think of and really great prices to match. If you been reading reviews on this place unsure whether to go in or not just go in and check it out.
Awsome staff very kind amazing people always makes me wanna shop there again
In principle I like what this store represents but in the few times I’ve been here (save for one nice young woman) the customer service has been terrible. I have been ignored and was scoffed at and dismissed by some rude employee for looking for a fairly mainstream game for my nephew (could have easily gone to any big box store, but I wanted to support a local business). I understand it’s not really your thing, but you don’t have to be rude. I ama gamer and collector myself but I shouldnt have to prove myself to be treated decently. The customer service is supposed to be what sets a business like this apart but for me it was a reason to not come back. As others said there aren’t any great deals here, but it’s worth a look if you’re a collector.
Fun spot, very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
I love this place! Its my fav game shop and Im really happy these places are still around!!!
It was great and the prices are more than fair for the games. -From an 11 year old gamer
Great customer service very welcoming for family and friends thank you bought a lot of great things. Sells quick
I went in just to trade old video games in and pick up a game or two. What I didnt know is I had a rare video game that was worth some big bucks
Good place to get retro games and collectibles
Every time I come here I love to take my time & browse. Definitely no pressure & comfortable environment. I’ve purchase a few times here before now. 2 problems I’ve had are incorrect pricing & a inoperable game. Every time I voiced my concern, each & every employee here has resolved the issue professionally & kindly. I can say that I will continue to be a repeat customer. Thank you
Great independent game store with a fantastic knowledgeable crew
Selection and service are great, but make sure you check the receipt for errors. Ive been charged incorrectly twice now.
Ive been in the store three times recently, and Cody has always been very friendly and helpful. The selection and prices for the used games Im looking for are better than the local GameStops, and Im happy to support a local business.
Great place! Staff was great and their recommendation was awesome.
Friendly service as always, and very peaceful shopping experience.
Best place for all your needs on business to present day games
I really enjoy this store they have a nice selection while they did not have the games I was looking for they are better than some other stores in the areas.
Have great inventory. Good store atmosphere. But the prices are all EBay/Pricecharting hooked. You won’t find any great deals here
Always professional and guarantee their products
They have an amazing selection of vintage video games and systems. It was fun looking around and remembering the games of my youth.
Very friendly, and welcoming...It nice to have a old school gaming store that isnt trying to shove new games down your throat.
Fair Game Retro makes gaming enjoyable, provides a sense of community, and has excellent customer service. I went in to buy a PS3 and couldnt have felt happier with how the experience turned out. If I could leave 10 stars, I would easily do it. Terry and the crew are awesome!
Great shop and spied me the new Retron 5. I want. Employees impressed me with their knowledge. One of my kids asked about a few games and what differences were for same cart different colors. Dude was soldering a gaming guitar, stopped and gave us excellent knowledge on why and what was different about them in-game. IMPRESSED!
Prices are overpriced. I even mentioned it to them at one point and they told me it was safer than buying on ebay, which makes no sense. Some things are even priced like $30-50 more than you can get online in same condition.
Very Cool spot my kid constantly wants to go back for more. Good selection very kind and helpful knowledgeable staff
Best place to for retro ganes an even anime some of the best selections Ive seen in a small store definitely recommend going
They charged us $30 to see what the problem was with 2 Gameboys & a Super NES. They charge $10 per device just to open them and look inside for the problem. After a week they called & said none of them could be fixed after they looked inside. After bringing them home it was very evident that they had never opened any of them up. They either didnt have time or interest to actually do what was paid for or they do not know how to fix gaming systems. The problem is actually fixable it was loose soldering on the connectivity to the screen. The screws had actually not even been broke from the factory seal. DO NOT TRUST THESE CROOCKS! On top of all that the Tetris game that had been in one of the Gameboys they decided to steal & replace it with a Mulan game. They could have had loyal customers to their small business but now we will buy games & have systems repaired by a business that actually want to help people rather than lie cheat and steal from their customers.
Great retro store
I went about a year ago, and the place was very nice. I bought Mario Land for the Gameboy, while the cartridge are was a little damaged, the game was in perfect condition. The staff was very nice, too. Great selection of games.
Great prices and working conditions with the electronic devices. 10/10
Great place super nice people, fair prices, great place for the kids to get a game.
One of my favorite places in Sacramento. They always have what Im looking for and a great variety of random rare finds!
Definitely worth the purchases I bought from here. Best place yet 👌
Marking my review from one star to four. I had experienced some communication problems with them after my online order. Took a little time for them to get back to me but the Manger got back to me once escalated and he handled the problem extremely well. Thank goodness, I buy almost all my stuff there and even gift cards for parties. I wasnt going to leave them forever over this but was definitely not going back for awhile. Now I can say after days of frustration Im very happy and feel good about giving them the chance to make it right. Knowledgeable staff and the tech was helpful and understanding of the situation. Thanks Fair Game
Im editing my review to give more to this incredible gaming store. The variety of games available is outstanding. Almost every classic system going back to the Atari and even the ColecoVision they have on display( & even sold ). Every visit, I find myself looking at every corner of the store not only because of the numerous classics they sell, but the quality they are sold as. Almost all of their games are sold with the game case, and even the instruction manual. However, their prices are a little higher than other thrift stores/online sites, but their premium conditions make up for it.Last but not least, the staff. The staff is super friendly and extra helpful. Whether its a busy or slow day, you can definitely approach them with any gaming questions or needs. This is more evident in their social media; very responsive. Beyond that, they have sales daily, even events that really engage their clientele. They just held a Free Video Game event last weekend, and the line wrapped around the corner and into the back of the parking lot. More recently, they expanded the store and now include more merchandise, food and drinks(Stuff you wont find in Gamestop). Overall, this store is my go-to place for anything retro gaming. Im sure there are online sites and more local stores that sell the same thing. But if you want to go back in time, before online ordering, before the gaming industry became massive, when you were a kid waiting in line wanting to buy the gold cartridge Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, you go to Fair Game.
Went in for a copy of Final Fantasy VIII, and got a CIB copy with none of the disks scratched. I had a gut feeling the disks would be somewhat scuffed but it the ones I got were almost brand new. In terms of the store, they have a decent selection of games with their PS2 selection being the largest. Not a whole lot of rare games, but if youre looking for something common they most likely have it.Their prices are pretty reasonable too- my copy of FF8 was 20 bucks which is what it usually goes for on eBay, and Id much rather support a local business than use eBay.
Its a nice place. They made a side room for figurines, and fun knick knacks for you to buy. They still have their gaming selection. I use to go there back in 2003-2005 for Dreamcast games. Their stock has dwindled, as far as type of retro games for nintendo. They could have more in the back room, but what they had on display was half of what I saw on their online store. Got some wii games. Good prices too. Gamestop would charge double for what they price it as. They have rare old games as while, but I was that for the wii. All in all. Im happy that the store is still around. The location only bad if you have to walk of ride a bike to it. Fair oak blvd. A crazy road.
I love this place they are always super helpful and have a great selection!
Great game store one of the best in Sacramento! Keep it up guys your awesome!
This place is awesome!! They are great people and have a great selection of games.
I was sold a scratched disk. After bringing it back It was fixed within an hour. Prices are slightly high, but inventory is great.
Nice staff, good selection
The 3 people Im aware of that work here, are all always incredibly helpful, prompt, and knowledgeable of any and everything I may need. Plus the selection is unparalleled.
Have more than gamestop with better help!! Employees care unlike big chain stores
