Very helpful staff! Raising their own baby birds, can be prepurchased weeks before they are weaned to go home with you. Fair prices!
No doubt that they are knowledgeable about birds…..Visited the store 10/2 and the gentleman behind the counter was nothing but condescending and made sure he pointed out everything we we doing wrong from cage, having a fully flighted bird, playstand and training. I told him we would love to bring our bird in for training but unfortunately we live 3 hours away. Left very disappointed, we were just shopping for a new cage, food, toy and he treated us like we were idiots. Yes we are new bird owners but wow!
Incredibly nice bird shop! I love Chris and John and how nice everything is kept. Best place for bird enthusiasts
Ive trusted Kookaburra for over 15 years for my birds nail trims - John is the only person I trust to towel my aggressive elderly rescue conure! They have a FANTASTIC food and toy selection. If you live in North Texas and you dont shop at Kookaburra, youre missing out.
I bought my best friend here. Ive had her little over a year and love her so much. Thanks Kookabura:)
What an awesome shop! The manager welcomed my special education class and let us learn some cool things about birds. Will definitely recommend this shop to friends and family!
Great service and we received a daily video of our bird while out of town. Thanks again!
Love these guys so much! So great with my bird. Always the place to go for his wings and nails.
I wish they had more than 5 stars for a rating. AWESOME experience with Chris who took EXCELLENT care of my Sun Conure this morning. Its always a risk when taking your baby to someone new for the first time. Chris answered all my questions professionally and politely and again took awesome care of my Mango in getting his claws and wings clipped. Because of Chris.... I am a Kookaburra customer for life!!!!!!
They clip nails and wings. Absolutely amazing
Been going here since I was a kid in the 90s. Theyre careful not to encourage impulse buying. Its a great place to learn about new birds. They have diy supplies to make your own toys.
A lengthy but important review:I have visited this shop several times over a two year period. The first time I went the staff member there (it’s always the same person, I believe he is the manager) was somewhat friendly and willing to have a conversation with me. The only thing that stood out was that, although I told him about our many large parrots and extensive bird history (we used to rescue) he acted as though I knew nothing.Subsequent visits only offered an increasingly unpleasant experience as the rudeness of the staff seems to intensify each time. The last couple times we just stopped by to see if they had any birds (they rarely do; we know people in the industry and know why they don’t, but that’s not our business to share). We chose not to interact with staff, but could hear the staff’s demeaning and belittling interactions with other customers. Our final visit to Kookaburra was when a woman came in and asked if they ever have cockatoos for sale. The staff member abruptly told her they never carry cockatoos. They woman, an unknowing customer, asked why, to which the staff member loudly and abrasively snapped back “ma’am have you ever even heard a cockatoo scream before?!”. The woman was clearly shocked. My wife and I (cockatoo owners) were so embarrassed and sad for the lady we kindly took her aside and briefly, nicely explained why cockatoos don’t make good pets for novice owners. We’ve talked to many people in the hobby and this is a very common experience with kookaburra. I don’t know how they don’t have more bad reviews. To the staff. As an experienced parrot owner, rescuer and soon to be veterinary student, I strongly recommend taking a different approach in how you interact with the general public and educate people about birds. I admire your knowledge and desire to ensure people don’t make an uneducated decision in purchasing a large parrot, but remember that you don’t know everything, and at one point you knew nothing. Be kind to those who have little knowledge. Don’t insult those who may have more knowledge than you. Many people are turned off by you’re attitude toward customers. It is up to you to turn that around.
Helpful and knowledgeable. A gentleman answered my questions on the phone and was very polite. I didn’t manage to get his name but the employees here are very good at what they do.
Have been coming here for 17 years. Great place to get bird food and to get them groomed as well.
RUDE SALES GUY DOESNT KNOW SQUAT ABOUT BIRDS. THIS PLACE DEFINITELY NEEDS TO RENAMED Cocobirds. Save up ur time and money go somewhere else.
Fantastic place for my green cheek conures to get their nails trimmed. Got the yearly package for two birds, and the staff are professionals and know what theyre doing. Thanks kookaburra!
The staff were great, friendly and knowledgeable. They handled our baby with care and we will be going back very regularly!!
The guys are very helpful. And they are always aware of the health of your pet. Verry good job.
Absolutely awesome service and knowledge.
We found this gem accidentally as our vet is next door . i walked into the store as it says bird shop and boarding as well .. Mr Chris was very welcoming and informative, he showed me the whole place the kennel, the crates (which is so clean!! ) and the backyard (which is huge btw Ginger loved it) .. no nasty smells of urine or even birds!! John who is at the counter sometimes is a jolly fellow and very warm.. i personally thanked him for taking care of our dog Ginger because she was well taken care of for 10 days and did not miss us at all, when we picked her up she did not have the nasty smell of urine or other kennel smells that dogs generally get at these places !! we boarded for long ten days for the first time since we got her and were skeptical if she could cope that long, shes a little dog and very playful though and their staff gave her a lot of cuddles everyday :)!! as i took my time to research a lot of options.. i chose this for their PERSONALIZED ATTENTION TO EACH DOG and willing to learn details as well .. they sent videos of her each day in email .. they upload it to their channel on youtube as well and it just feels so better to see your babies well taken care of !! Thank you John and Chris and the other little guy i dint catch your name !! they have hilarious commentary in the videos too!! thank you!! we will come back soon FOR SURE
Love this store ! They have A Great variety of birds and bird toys.
I stopped by when traveling through, and holy cow is it expensive. I don’t know if birds and supplies are just that much more in Dallas than okc or what.To put it into perspective, I have bourkes myself that I purchased directly from breeders at different bird fairs for $100 and lutino bourkes for $125. These guys were charging $425 for the lutino! And I think he said $375 for a regular. Crazy! But hey if people pay it then that’s on them! I did not have problem of bad customer service that the other reviews mention, the guy was pretty friendly.
Theyre always so kind, helpful and very knowledgeable.
Always a pleasurable visit. Thank you for your outstanding service and professionalism.
Great selection of birds and supplies. A friendly and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend!
Good toys, food, and theyve given us a lot of advice about our cockatiel as new bird owners. We love coming here. Theyve got a loyalty program too :)
Great place, went in for a beak trim and they did a great job.
Me and my mom went to the store this afternoon because I really want to learn about parrots and interact with them before I ever consider getting one. We aren’t from The area and have nothing similar near us so I was eager to stop by. Well I believe the owner of the store was more than happy to let us talk to him and the birds even though I’m sure he had other things to do. Thank you for the time and letting me hold the shops beautiful Macaw!
I took my bare-eyed cockatoo in for a nail trim which was around $14 dollars. What the employees did was nip the ends off with a cat or dog style trimmer. Her nails were just as scratchy as before. The proper method is to use an electric nail file like in the salons so the nail tip can be filed down smoothly. For what was done it was way over priced and very disappointing. I will not return to Kookaburra.
Good selection of toys and food. Lots of cockatiels and some other small birds.
Took my African grey for a trim today and have to say it was wonderful. They are so kind and knowledgeable, Ive gotten a great consultation about what would be good for my specific type of bird.I will definitely take all 17 of my parrots back and I recommend anybody that is looking for a great store to check them out.John is amazing in answering all your questions and they have HEALTHY, HAPPY and BEAUTIFUL birds...Store is super clean as well as the boarding room... great place
This was our First visit to Kookaburra bird shop and it was a wonderful experience. We were greeted by Chris who is very helpful, super nice and didnt hesitate to answer many questions as well as allow us to handle the birds we were interested in. Shortly after we were greeted by John as well and he helped my daughter decide on the best bird for her. He thoroughly explained the care and other valuable information we needed to know about our new little companion, helped us gather the items we needed and was all around a pleasure to talk to. I will gladly recommend this bird Shop to anyone. The friendly knowledgeable staff, clean environment and happy, healthy birds made our experience at Kookaburra very pleasant.
This is the best place to buy bird, food, toys, cages etc.......They all are very knowledgeable and helpful especially Chris with any questions you have even though you might not have bought the bird from them. I will definitely take my Quaker parrot for all his grooming needs.👍👍👍👍👍👍
The staff is extremely knowledgeable, and experienced. They do all my trims, and are very gentle when handling my parrot. I would highly recommend them to help with your bird!
I got 4 birds from this bird shop. Its amazing how they train the birds and make sure that you get a well trained bird.
Awesome pet store. They spent an hour educating me on choosing the correct pet. They also stock better bird food than the big chain pet stores.
The staff was amazing to work with. I went there with the idea of getting a specific kind of bird, but walked out with a different kind. It was a good thing. They talked me through each bird type, their requirements, and helped me make an informed decision, instead of an impulse one. The selection of products for our new family member was vast and affordable. I will definitely being making trips back for food and toys, instead of closer places.
Best store for parrot/bird owners! Amazing selection of toys, food, nutrients and bird accessories.
We boarded our 2 parakeets here and it was great to be able to see them on video everyday! Thank you for all you do!!
I was very impressed by the gentleman working today. He was beyond knowledgeable about birds and didnt mind taking time to educate future potential customers, knowing that we were not buying anything at all today. Answered a million questions without expecting anything in return. His love of the birds was obvious. His patience with my son and me was wonderful.
We boarded our dog here for almost 10 days.Staff is really good with personal attention towards each pet.Video of your pet is uploaded / emailed to you every day which is a plus.Backyard is pretty decent size where your dog can play.If you are looking to board your dog this is a right place .They have some offers of you board more than 10 days.Personal Attention 10/10Hygiene 9/10Overall Satisfaction 9/10.
I love this place. They have all the bird-related items and expertise here.
Best place for birds and care of your birds! The employees are very knowledgeable about birds; from types, behavior, diet, care etc. I never leave there without learning something new about one, or more, of my birds. I was encouraged to try a brand of birdseed they sell, due to an issue I was having with my cocktail. I purchased the seed and my bird is completely different; feathers coming in better and lots more energy! I have started giving the same food to my other birds and noticed positive changes in them too. This store is like no other and I am glad I started going there!
If you own a bird you need to go there! All of the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Not only do they have a good selection of food, toys and other supplies but they also offer boarding.
Kookaburra bird shop is the best of its kind that I can think of. Michelle knew how to take care of our Australian parrots habits with plucking her neck feathers, and also taught the bird to go outside. The bird loves going there for boarding, and her shop is full of colors and birds with personalities. Now that she does dog boarding, well be sending our pooch there as well, because we know how much she and her employees really care. Its also convenient and clean. Thanks!
I got my first ‘actual’ bird here. The reason I say ‘actual’ is because most of my life all I had were very skittish parakeets from Traders Village. My boyfriend and I stopped by when we both decided to get a conure for Christmas. We had been to multiple shops before arriving at Kookaburra. When we stopped by we got to talking with the manager about their availability, what to prepare for, what they can eat, what type of toys we buy, etc, etc. He answered all of our questions with such professionalism and confidence, we both felt ready to get the bird here. It’s 6 months later and it’s still one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I love my bird! When she came home they said to give her some time alone. That all birds need time to get comfortable. Not her. She instantly wanted to come out and play. I can’t imagine my life without her anymore. I’ll always come back to this shop when looking for a little buddy.
Wonderful staff! Vera loves spending time here in boarding. Thank you so much for everything.
There is a Macaw in the store and it looks majestic
If you have a bird (or, like us, birds, plural) then this is definitely the place to go to. Staffed by friendly bird-lovers who really know what theyre talking about. We go there for special food for our Parrotlet which we also bought there. Charli, the Parrotlet was perfectly hand-tame, a happy little soul who worships my wife 😍 If you could see Charli lovingly nestle into my wifes neck or this beautiful little bird merrily swinging away chirping contentedly it would tell you all you could ever need to know about how great Kookaburra are with the birds they sell and board. If you go there say hello to Miranda the huge, beautiful red Macaw who perches in the middle of the store on her own special tree - just dont be tempted to wave a finger too close to her or shell make it clear you can look at her lovingly but not touch! 😂A great place for bird lovers. ❤
It was...ok. The birds were not in the conditions that Id recommend. They also didnt have variety and customer service was really terrible.
My husband and I come with our pet cockatiels to clip their wings and nails every few months. The staff is awesome! They give you tops and check on your bird and provide recommendations. There are some birds sitting in the open and other in clear boxes, so it is fun walking around and looking at all the other birds. Plenty of supplies to buy for your bird, too!
I took my Pionus in for a nail trim today. The guys there had my little man out, clipped, and back in the carrier in under two minutes, and did a better job with less strain on the little guy than anywhere Ive ever been. I really appreciated how well they know birds, and I saw some species Ive never seen in person before, and they were fantastically healthy, cheerful, and well looked after. It was well worth the drive, well definitely be back.
This place is a bird lovers heaven. Lots of toys and perches to choose from as well as plenty of food mixes. Prices were about what I pay on Amazon, which is great since I can see the stuff in person.Staff were super friendly. They also do wing and nail clipping here if you want to avoid bites trying to do it yourself.
If you want the best advice out there, from the friendliest, most knowledgeable staff in the business, then Kookaburra is the spot. Im usually a shy conversationalist when Im not very knowledgeable about something, but I left the store feeling fulfilled, and with a new addition to my family! My advice...if youre looking to enrich your life with the gift of an exotic bird, dont go anywhere else. You will be taken care of here.
I love this store! The staff are so knowledgeable and friendly - they are more than happy to show you around and let you handle your potential feathered friend. I bought my first parrotlet here last year, and added to my flock today. The prices are reasonable for services, food, toys, you name it - they have it on hand. I never need to go anywhere else.
Boarding was reasonable.Having the bird and dog at one location was helpful. Received videos daily, too.
We are new parrot owners and have no clue what we are doing . We are learning and the shop took the time to help us with toys, and the proper diet for out baby. They offered great advise and said we can come back any time for assistance as needed. We adopted at 15 yr old Amazon who needs a little TLC and we felt welcome and not like we were idiots at being first time parrot owners.
In the 4 years weve been customers of Kookaburra, weve never had anything but positive experiences here. Making several visits before acquiring each of our birds (about a year apart), John & Michelle answered our questions and helped us pick the right birds for our household. Every time we board, I am extremely comfortable with the care our birds receive - and more importantly, the birds are happy and healthy. The shop is clean, well-stocked, and of course, MIRANDA!! I am thrilled to have this valuable resource for my feathered babies!
I purchased my African Grey Congo at the Kookaburra Store. They were terrific about answering all the questions I had about my new wonderful pet. They offer play dates, discounted trimmings and provide honest answers to my birds needs, whether they will benefit (with another purchase) of if we could save money going a different direction. I really appreciate their honesty and integrity.
I dont have a bird, so not any kind of expert, but we did go in just to look at the birds. They have several macaws in the center of the store. The Supplies were spread around the sides of the store and appeared to be pretty adequate. If you were in the market to buy a bird this would appear to be a good place to go.
Very attentive and knowledgeable staff! They truly listen and care.
I visit the store regularly to purchase food, toys and treats for my Macaw and Senegal. The store is always very clean and the Birds all look like they are enjoying themselves and are very well cared for. The staff is friendly and very helpful and have helped me take better care of my birds with lots of advice and helped me convert my birds on to a better diet. I have not personally made use of their boarding facilities, but have several friends that do and they have nothing but great things to say about the service and how their birds are taken care of. I would encourage any one who has a bird to pay them a visit.
My husband went in to the shop with our three-year-old for a short while as I stayed in the car to breastfeed our one-year-old. I ended up joining him inside just to see what the shop looks like and what kind of pets they had. For the next 20 minutes after we left the shop my husband told me of his experience with the rude staff. A lot of the reviews mention staff being rude, and this is more of the same.My husband is extremely passionate about all types of birds so he was asking questions and the staff couldnt care less. This wasnt just a one-time, possibly-misconstrued response that the staff made. There were four or five sequential events where they were extremely off-putting.Im giving two stars because the area was clean and the birds were beautiful, but the attitude of the staff is very disappointing.Correction: the Hispanic kid was pleasant and welcoming.
Perfect Pet Boarding! My Daisy was happy to stay! The staff truly care! Usually she will not eat or drink for 1 or 2 days, but was just fine here at Kookas!
Great place to find a awesome pet. We feel in love with the Double Yellow headed Amazon. All birds were great. Clean and very knowledgeable place.
One of the absolute worst stores for Birds in the DFW metroplex. One of there associates John has an attitude every time we come in to board our bird. One time when I came in he just handed me the papers and said something so rude I wondered if I had done something to offend him. Before hand he was polite when were intrested in buying a bird and when we bought a bird from an out of state pet store his attitude changeThere owner, did trimming for my bird and put him in pain. My bird was so fearful of people for weeks he wouldnt talk or be social. This store is one that I would avoid. Theres one other store in Fortworth that I would go to other then that avoid this store at all costs
Awesome place to visit, and The Person that was there answer all my questions very kindly
They do a great job with their trimmings for our eclectus parrot and sun concure. They are super quick and incredibly knowledgeable about various birds types.
One of the worst stores in the USA. John one of there employees is extremely rude and every time we enter the store it seems like he has an attitude. I am a member of bird group and will strongly avoid this bird store.
Awesome bird store!!!
Review of the boarding services at kookaburra: Amazing experience as always. Took great care of my dog and sun conure and sent me a video! I know that my animals are in good hands here.
I have been taking my conures to Kooks since 1995. I went to them after having bad experiences at the other bird sops in Dallas at the time. They have always given me extremely helpful advice and assistance. I have been buying all my girls food there for many years as it always is fresh and the variety of healthy products is great. In my book, if you have a pet bird, you need Kooks!
Very nice store with high quality products. Great toy selection and nice food brands. The store is always clean! The birds are is the store are well cared for and healthy. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. No other store comes close in DFW. If you have birds, you need to be here!
I bought my Pineapple green cheek conure from them less than a year ago and they helped me through the process from start to finish!! Also will answer any question that I have!! All the employees couldnt be nicer and they love and care for each and every bird that enters the door!! Love this place
My wife has been going here for a while and I see why. Great people and we love the daily videos they send when he is boarded.
Really great shop. Took my cockatiel to get his wings trimmed and it was really worth it!Will come back to get his nails trimmed too.The staff there was very nice and helpful when I asked about what kind of nest I needed for my parakeets. Overall a grear experience!
The people there are very helpful and the place is well maintained. I got to interact with a few different birds to see which type would be the best for me. All of the birds were very tame and never tried to bite me. Ill definitely be going there in the future, for toys and to adopt another bird :)
This place ROCK!!!! If you are thinking in getting a new feather friend this is the place to go. Ask for Michelle or John! I been their loyal customer for quite a while and always have an amazing experience. Kudos!
Decent shop for those looking for birds as pets. Not much of variety of selection. They cater to boarders while you your away.
The only place I will and have taken my blue and gold mcaw. I drive from East Texas 2 hours to have my birds nails and wings trimmed. Highly recommended by my vet Dr. Osofsky. Very friendly and knowledgeable.
Nice places for a variety of birds with the owner who are very polite and explain you finer details on how to buy n keep the birds. The only drawback can be that they are a little expensive but again not too expensive.
Good to see an owner for Knowledge and passion for bird pet ownership!
So friendly. Very informative and patience with us as we visit and ask lots of questions about our new baby. So glad we found them
This shop has been around since I was a kid. When I was in high school I really wanted a bird and I visited frequently asking questions to learn about care and species. One day they told me I need to stop coming if I wasn’t going to buy anything. Fast forward 8 years and now I’m an adult. I have a bird and since it’s close to my parent’s house, I stopped in thinking that I could grab some stuff. They were still rude to me! I don’t know if they remembered me or not but I just do not like the attitudes nor the prices of this shop. I drive 40 minutes away to another bird shop just so I do not have to buy from them.
When I was a kid, up to now being an adult, I always wanted a bird. That being said, I went here to see the birds and hold them. The staff was so rude because I wasnt buying anything at the time. I was actually going to buy a bird, but when I came in to see the birds and to see which one I would connect with they were just so rude. I dont understand whats wrong with the staff. If you have a bird shop expect people wanting to see the birds and hold them. This is the only way to see which ones you connect with. Sheesh!
I have been here several times for Dog Boarding. The place always looks clean and organized and the staff is super friendly and helpful. Our two dogs are sometimes a handful, and one basically has special needs, making him difficult to handle. We were very fortunate to have found this place. The staff has made aware of this and went above and beyond to take care of us. We drive across DFW to take our dogs here when we board them and its well worth it. We will continue to use their boarding in the future.
This outstanding family owned facility has been in the pet business for over 30 years. The owner, Michelle Beckley, a Texas A&M graduate, commits her life daily to the service and care of her patrons and their pets. The dog boarding facility is top notch. The dogs get wonderful care including walks, baths, playtime, and lots of love. The birds in the store are absolutely beautiful!
I like they take care you pet nice service
I recently purchased a new cage from them at a cost of approximately $285.00.Within a few days I managed to get my African Gray on top of the cage. After a few moments my bird caught one of his toes in a hole on top of the cage. It was a horrible experience for both my bird and myself. I actually returned the cage to Kookaburra and they told me since the bird had been in it, they could not take it back. All this within a 3 week period. They told me they would contact the manufacturer of the cage to see if they would take it back. They said no. I think this is more of a store policy rather than manufacturer incident. So STAY AWAY from this business! Kookaburra would not refund my money and Im stuck with this new cage I can not use. They have nothing posted in the store or printed on the receipt regarding store return policy.
