Yesterday I went to the store with a Ham radio that was apparently not working, of course I called early to ask Gene if he can check that type of radio. When I arrived he inmediatly put it over the repair table and start doing few tests to verify my statemnent. Short history he find out that the radio was ok and probably was used wrong. He took few minutes from his time and no even charge me for that...I was impresed and I wil come back to propose a deal with an amplifier he has in the shop.Great experience.

It sure look like a nice place... parking behind the store. But even though the sign said open and I was within the hours the door was locked and nobody was there. Too bad it look like a nice place. Maybe next time I pass through.

Going back a number of years, about 8PM I get a call from a local YL who just had to have a new HF rig that night ! The nearest dealers I could think of were KJI and another in Scranton PA. Rose decided on KJI and she picked me up in her little Subaru about 9PM after we arranged to pick up the Kenwood TS430 rig that night, and KJI Gene would wait up for us. I dont know what the hurry or urgency was but Rose broke all speed limits to get to KJI and we arrived about 10:30 PM as we were driving there from Carmel, NY ( Putnam County ). Gene welcomed us and Rose bought the Kenwood TS430. How many dealers would be willing to do business like that long after closing times ? Can you believe 95 MPH on the interstates to get to KJI ? Well, that is a night I will never forget. We knew of Gene and KJI from all the hamfests we saw him at in the past and future. This may be a decade or two late but many thanks gene.

I wanted a 2 Meter HT but was very skeptical about ordering on line. Couldnt find any stores open during this crisis so I put it off. Got a hunch to dig deeper and found Genes Business about 20 miles away. Got there and was blown away by his inventory and knowledge. Purchased a Yeasu rig he v gave me a Hat and Bag. Great experience and the fear of buying knock off equipment is gone. Looking to do a lot of Business with Gene.

KJI .. specifically Gene is just GREAT! The store is nice with a good selection of solid gear but the real reason you go to KJI is because of Gene! A truly stand-out, great guy known for his integrity. He handles special orders with no problem and is simply, Mr. Reliable. Gene and KJI are the rock of ham radio in northern New Jersey!

Ive now been to this store twice, and Ive had a great experience both times. Gene is very friendly and strives to help you find exactly what you need. I told him what I was looking for, and thats what I got. I was in and out of the store within 15 minutes. Highly recommend the store.

As a newly licensed ham, I called KJI based on a google search. I called the number on the website and was greeted by Gene. From our very first conversation I know I found my go to ham radio store even though it is a 50 minute drive from my home. Gene is a listener and does not try to sell you but points you in the direction of several choices once he has a good understanding of your goals in the hobby. Gene makes himself available for questions ( i’ve Had a few) and I find his knowledge, advice and kindness to be the exception in the way of customer service today. I would highly recommend KJI and Gene to anyone interested into getting started in this hobby. Gene is a very pleasant shop keep. I have purchased a couple radios, books and amateur radio accessories from him at the Big Butler Hamfest in Butler Pa. and was able to visit his shop. Sadly, they have limited hours due to illness. His prices for being a brick and mortar store are a reasonable as they get, imho.

Not to thrilled with this place at all. The first time I used them, was at the local hamfest. Needless to say I was billed twice on my credit card after making my purchase. just a simple mistake I thought, and Gene did take care of the problem. A couple of years later, I actually visited his store to buy a 220 MHZ. rig and a mobile antenna. Gene was packing up for a local hamfest when I stopped in. He was more than friendly and courteous and showed me what he had in 220 mobile rigs. To make a long story short, I ended up buying the JT 220 M, and a diamond mobile antenna. Gene explained to me that he did not have the NMO mag mount I wanted, and he would ship it to me factory direct. To make a long story short, I never received the mag mount, and the JT 220 M was defective. Despite several phone calls, and the fact that Gene was never in the store due to all the hamfests he does, I gave up and sent the rig back to Jetstream for repair. Twice billed, paid for items never shipped, defective product, way too many coincidences for me. Sorry to say, I will never use him again.
