Saw the outstanding collection of work by Victoria Findlay Wolfe, along with the informative video by the artist, describing her process. This museum is a treasure. Work is always beautifully curated and thoughtfully chosen. Gift shop is full of unique handmade surprises.
Went with my wife. Did not realize the true artistry that goes into words. The quilts displayed capture everything from the classic look to the modern designs.
Had a wonderful time. Friendly, welcoming staff. It was my birthday on a Tuesday and my kids were in town. They’re not usually open on Tuesdays, but I left a message and one of the staff happened to be there, so she allowed us to come. Such a delightful visit. It’s a small museum of fiber arts- happened to be showing quilts that have a bit of history of Wisconsin. Thanks for the nice time!!!
My destination to view the works of Victoria Findlay Wolfe; PBS interview about her art and WMQF’s role as her first exhibition; exhibit hall focused 100% on VFW’s completed quilts in this Perfect setting of a post and beam renovated c.1850 barn where exhibit space soars beyond the wooden haymow ladder to the peaked ceiling/roof above. Based in Cedarburg WI - picture postcard perfect Americana; c.1900 The Stilt House Gastro Bar has a history that’s an example of contrary Midwestern independence; menu and meals are seasonally designed locally sourced artfully created - also picture perfect and equally delicious; followed by WI grown large Granny Smith apple dipped in thin caramel rolled in WI dried cherries cooled then dipped in chocolate on a stick in a gift box specifically designed to hold this amazing dessert; to maximize quality time here - visit when there are no commercial tourist attractions (e.g. avoid September Oktoberfest and professional athletic times) - walk leisurely to enjoy the tree lined sunlit streets or pat a friendly furry fourlegged friend as you sit beside the Fire Dept fountain enjoying the view of the river flowing beneath the steel RR pedestrian bridge.
Just amazing! Family from out of town, quilters- just enjoyed every minute. A wonderful history lesson to boot!
Excellent art activity. This time they had historic quilts some as old as 200 years. This time no touch, no photos. Exhibits change.
It was fun to see and read about the many Wisconsin hand made quilts. It would have been nice to have a guided tour which wasnt available when I was there on a Sunday afternoon.
Great place to see beautiful quilts any time of year.
The staff here are knowledgeable and friendly, and the show on display this weekend was really interesting, with lots of history behind it.
An interesting and unique museum with a rotating collection of artworks which are representative of both domestic and international artists. During my visit they had an exhibit on tobacco silks from the early 1900s. It was quite interesting and was something I had never seen before. They hold classes throughout the year on quilt making and weaving.
Staff was very passionate and helpful, exhibits were intriguing and beautiful!
Wonderful and very historic quilts. What a treasure for your town
Lovely small museum in what was an 1850s German farmstead. No permanent exhibition but the temporary exhibit I saw was great.
Small but lovely quilts.
Beautiful exhibit!
A very festive gallery exhibit opening event! The museum really knows how to hold great events. Plus, the exhibit showcasing Wisconsin artists has wonderful textile pieces featuring a variety of mediums. Beautiful!
This museum is a must if you love quilts. It is small, but very cute. Nice gift store.
Always friendly and helpful.
The Museum has awesome displays from quilt and fiber artists. They have displayed historical quilts, Japanese handwork, modern quilts, knitting, weaving, felting, punched rugs- any type of fiber art you can imagine will be featured at one time or another. Admission is only $6, and a years membership is $30. The barn itself is a showpiece, and the time, thought, and donations that went into making this a reality was well spent. They have great workshops, open the grounds for barn days, and generally give the fiber arts community a beautiful showcase to honor those who did handwork in the past, and carry on the traditions in new ways today.
We attended their 5th birthday part last weekend. It was a nice event with learning and fun for both adults and kids (puzzles, sew-your-own bean bags for corn hole). The 1850s farmstead that its located on was a pleasant surprise for my pioneer life-interested kids. They also have the most interesting climbing tree Ive ever seen. So all around, a fun visit. Well be back in the future.
Not worth the money paid; the only staff member that was attentive was that one that jumped right on us to pay admission when wed barely walked through the door. The person who came in behind us however, got a lovely introduction about the museum. The website and the brochures made it seem like there would be a large collection of quilts and other fiber arts, but all they had was their two special exhibits that werent very large. Probably the nicest thing about the whole place was the artist in residence, who had a weaving display in the front as we came in. Definitely wont be going here again, or recommending it to anyone else .
Take your receipt! If the cashier offers you a receipt after youve paid, TAKE IT! Otherwise, in the midst of your relaxing reverie, the Director, as she introduced herself, will rudely ask you if youve paid, because I wasnt here when you arrived. Thats my problem how? Talk to your cashier! Although the quilting/art is beautiful, personally, I wont ever go back.
Top notch museum. I confess that I visited on family day and admission was free, but I was greeted warmly and the staff was great about answering questions related to the pieces being displayed. I was amazed at what the artists could do with material, thread and yarn. I recommend a visit.
Such a treasure! Great place to visit. Definitely a hidden gem in Wisconsin.
Beautiful display of Native American fiber Arts. Was so interesting to read descriptions of materials used and tribes represented. Very helpful staff and nice gift area.
The museum is an amazing showcase of what quilting can be. we stopped in for the first time to see the ants to elephants exhibit and it was phenomenal. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will be stopping by again and would recommend to any art lover.
Visiting the Wisconsin Quilt Museum was a much anticipated event for me. How very disappointed I was to not see any Wisconsin quilts on display. We visited and viewed the Japanese exhibit which took maybe 30 minutes. The name of this building is misleading. Maybe it needs to be renamed the Wisconsin Quilt Exhibition Center. Check the definition of museum. The building itself is beautiful and very “Wisconsin”.
Nice to see some unique quilts however not worth the price.
An amazing place! You need some quality time to enjoy it 😊
Men- take up any offer from your wife to stay in the car. This wouldn’t have been worth it for half the price. I suspect any glowing reviews about this place are from people that have exhibited their work there.
Beautiful building! The Water exhibit is fascinating, and the people are so helpful.
To Anyone who is interested in Quilting or the Fabric Arts, this is a Must See Place! Make sure that you have at least a half-hour to spend there, but one hour would be certainly better!
What an amazing space! The display was breathtaking. Cant wait to visit again
Great little mueseum that was very interesting. Learned what tobacco silks were and how they were incorporated into quilts. Worth the trip to see it and go into Cederburg WI for shopping and wine afterwards.
Rude and ungrateful! Friends and I spent hours of time organizing donations for their annual rummage sale...followed the list of what they wanted...only to be insulted by rude and ungrateful staff when delivering. Maybe they need to earn their support like the rest of us.
I have been to the museum on two different occasions to listen to a guest artist speak. The exhibits have been well worth my drive and the setting is perfect. I plan to return before Stevie the croc leaves Wisconsin. Staff are all friendly and the gift shop has a great variety of items of interest to quilters and non-quilters alike. Plus, Cedarburg is a great little town to visit for food and strolling.
I stop in whenever I am in the area because the rotating exhibits are consistently excellent. As always, a well-designed, interesting exhibit of quilts, and fun gift shop selection.
Heard about the place after hearing about it from our friend on an NPR program. wonderful overview and exhibits with a lovely location and a super affordable gift shop of local and national textile artists.
Family Fun Days are amazing! They are free and there are many arts and crafts to do with your family.
Wonderful museum covering all things quilty and fibery. A true hidden gem.
Tried to get info.Closed and website inaccurate re closures. Building looked interesting. Sorry we couldnt get in!
Wonderful show of award winning Japanese quilts. Stunning!
Appreciate the talents that have been continued for so many years. Beautiful building, location and everything is displayed so well.
A great place to see historic quilts.
Its a wonderful & interesting place!
Just outside Cedarburg. Great exhibit with improved lighting:Death. Wide varieyy of goods in Gift Shop.
Beautiful venue, very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
A beautiful facility with knowledgeable staff to enhance your experience.
Great exhibitions of quilting. Classes for local residents.
Great Japanese exhibit from competition in Japan 2015.
Great collection of fiber arts. Not your grandmas quilts.
Excellent museum displaying artful quilts, with rotating themed exhibits
A well-curated collection of quilts and fibre art. Call for current collection information.
Disappointed, 2 or 3 old quilts. Not my idea of a museum. Though the current display made was with old tobacco silks the quilts/art pieces were new. Price was high for the 30 minutes it took to view the displays.
Thought the price of admission was high for what is there.
No permanent collection pieces available for viewing. $8 to see one gallery of pieces of very mixed quality was far too much.
Amazing museum, great staff!
Nicely done with interesting exhibits
Awesome information and displays.
Wonderful
Fabulous! Amazing!
Nice place?
