This is a dumpy store to begin with. The guy behind the counter, the owner I assume, at first ignored me completely for about a solid 15 mins even though there was only one other customer at the counter looking through items, and the owner had a bit of an attitude. Came off as annoyed when I asked to see some 64 Kennedy halves. Said he had them around here somewhere or something to that effect. No surprise he had difficulty finding them because the place is cluttered. When he took forever to look for them, I assume he was looking, I just kinda laughed to myself and walked out. Definitely wont be going back. One star is too generous of a rating.
Husband and I had wonderful experience around Christmas Last year just randomly popping in. Came across a special estate brooch, owner shipped to our home out of state very quickly. Very impressive collection for a small store, tasteful jewelry with hard to find designs. Owner was very kind and lovely, can’t wait to visit Charlottesville again just to go see what’s currently in store.
I got a series of 1899 $2 bill today, I have been following ebay, and bids and I got a really good price on a very nice bill. A really cool collection for coins and bills, and definitely quality merchandise. Definitely recommend this place!
I came to Treasures Through Time to sell an diamond ring. Larry was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Throughout the entire selling process, he kept me informed on the progress. I believe Larry got me the best deal possible! I couldnt be more grateful.
I bought coins from Larry for several years and thought we were friends until he turned on me. Larry used to tell me take coins home with me and pay the balance in a couple weeks since he evidently trusted me then. However one day about ten years ago I was in his shop trying to make a cash-trade on a very nice 1879-CC Morgan Dollar which was priced affordable back then. I was so excited to have found that coin I had been looking for !!! Also I picked out some other cheaper coins but every time I picked a coin Larry would put it back in a pile in the showcase which he never did before ! No one else was in his shop so I thought that was odd ! Then all of a sudden he asked me if I pocketed a coin and I said your kidding right Larry ! He said NO ! So I immediately emptied my pockets placing everything on his showcase including my coins I brought in to trade. Then I turned my pockets inside out and let him pat me down since I worked in corrections and this was the proper search procedure. I then said these are my coins I brought in to trade and he said yes and he said he must have been mistaken but he never apologized !!! I told him I was very upset and angry with him then which he could evidently tell since he ran behind the showcase from me ! I still was waiting for an apology that never came and let him know he lost all my business. I really wanted to buy those coins too, especially the 1879-CC Morgan that I still think of still this day. Which was really a bargain but after being slandered by him I could not ever buy anything else from him ever again !!! I told a friend what he did and she said he never was really my friend. He only wanted my business which he abruptly lost for all time !!! I am the type of person that would rather DIE than steal from someone since I have had things stolen from me and it felt like I was being raped or violated !!! Which I felt Larry had done to me !!! Also I am a very trusting person until someone gives me a reason not to trust them. I used to have an Antique shop & would leave some items outside and people would leave money for what they wanted. I long for people doing things for each other instead of taking and mistrust. I must be obsolete. Im writing this in case someone else has gone through this. I dont see how he has repeat customers after hearing how he treats others including myself.
Larry helped my fiancé and me find the perfect engagement ring, and diamond to go in it. He takes the time to ensure that anything he orders for you is of the quality that both he and you expect of it. He does incredible, high quality work, and is happy to work with you and get to know you in order to find the best piece for you.
Great store with tons of coins, paper money, silver, mints, and much more. The website for this store is wrong in that it displays Holiday Hours of operation on the right side, except it says For the week of December 6, which is horribly wrong in that today is December 29. Please fix this, as it would be nice to know hours of operation for the current holiday week.Other than an incorrect website, I find this store fascinating, intriguing, and a little piece of history.
This is a wonderful shop! Beautiful jewelry & great coins. The owner, Larry is very friendly & helpful. -Pat-Charlottesville
I had a wonderful experience with Larry and Janie. I spotted a beautiful ring. After I thought about the purchase for a bit, Larry gave me a great price, resized the ring for me, and shipped it quickly to my house. Its an adorable little shop in downtown Charlottesville -- cant wait to stop in again!
This store has everything, jewelry, coins & stamps. Really impressed with the wide selection in this small store. I definitely recommend it. Just went back& love the silver jewelry.
Im deeply grateful for Larry Engles kindness in helping me replace some sterling flatware. His professionalism and fair pricing mattered a lot to me.
I have been relying on Larry Engles expertise and exemplary customer service since arriving in Charlottesville from Boston in 2004. I trust him completely and rely on his savvy, comprehensive understanding, and acumen involving all aspects of estate jewellry commerce. I have sold to,TTT, dozens of valuable pieces of fine jewellry, many Tiffany and Company pieces, and continue to be confident that I am receiving not only fair, but generous compensation. Larrys affable manner and his enthusiasm for my satisfaction, engenders confidence that each item is being considered with the utmost care, knowledge and respect, while additionally rendering the maximum price. On more than one occasion, I have unsolicitedly, delightedly, received additional sums of money after an item garnered a larger than anticipated sum at auction, Treasure through Time is my sole destination for buying and selling estate jewellry and sterling flatware. Kudos!
I been going there for years, if you are looking for certain coins just ask he probably has them hidden somewhere.
Dude is a straight douche, had an attitude the entire time, I would rather throw all my merchandise out than go back to that place and go through that again.
I called the store to ask whether they carried a certain item. The gentleman I spoke to was terse and seemed irritated that I was calling him. They didnt have what I was looking for so at least I didnt have to go interact in person.
