Wonderful son and father business. Unfortunately, their selection is what I refer to as The Great Wall of China and Other Asian Guitars. Usually nothing American, new or old. That would be fine if these Asian guitars, including a few from Vietnam, didnt have Made in USA prices. The store is fun but the prices are way off for overseas guitars where labor charges are only $3-10 a day.(boutique pickups or not). Still worth a visit though. Go and have fun.

The selections pretty good but service isnt very friendly... Its also got a dont come here unless ur gonna buy something vibe too. Was gonna buy some strings but then decided not to.

Great spot! Huge selection of instruments. I started playing guitar in 2020 after deciding lockdown was a good time to do something Ive wanted to do for 40 years. Visited this place last summer when I was in Charlottesville for something completely unrelated, and it was a great experience for me and my kid. Im raising a drummer, so the drum room was a hit. I loved looking at the guitars, with a lot of the standard brands and some nice Tagima & Dillion instruments as well. Well be back.

How have I missed this place! They literally have a little bit of everything! Far more selection than I imagined, with the best in knowledgeable advice.

I searched EVERYWHERE nationally for a particular electric guitar, and finally found one on their website. Calling them on the phone, they not only answered (!) but generously spent time cutting me a wonderful deal. They then shipped the guitar several days sooner than they said they would. The guitar arrived expertly packed and with all hang tags and literature for both the guitar and case. Larry and the crew at Specialty Guitars are a class act. Trust them for an internet sale 100%.

I absolutely love this store! It has a variety of well-known guitar brands and brands that you wouldnt see in commercial music stores and would have to order. Theres everything here for the beginner to the seasoned professional - electric and acoustic guitars; basses; ukuleles; banjos; mandolins; amps; small selection of books and supplies. There are also keyboards, drums amd some wind instruments. More importantly, the staff and its teachers are friendly and very knowledgeable and go above and beyond to help you with your musical needs.

Hands down, the most awesome selection of guitars in town. Larry and his son are awesome people and are always helpful. Ive been a loyal customer since 2009, and have gotten some of the best deals Ive ever received from Larry. Highly recommended.

This store is packed tight with wide-ranging inventory, so avoid taking children or service animals, if you can help it. Tripping over your shoelaces could cost a small fortune.The proprietors are knowledgeable, not pushy, and pretty friendly (though with a pretty dry sense of humor).This store is in a strange place, above a tire shop, but is accessible from Rio and Route 29. It is a very small parking area so take your car not your Escalade. Most of the asphalt is covered with cars waiting for repair. Dont park in the wrong place.

Very helpful and friendly staff. Lots of guitars and amps you wont find in other physical stores. Effects pedals could have more variety, but they also have pedals I dont find in guitar center or elsewhere. Everything from clone/budget to boutique.

I LOVE this store. The amount of options is amazing and everyone is so knowledgable and friendly. Larry, the owner, is fantastic. He can teach you so much about each guitar and all the companies he carries, its awesome, hes a like a walking encyclopedia. I asked about lessons and he recommended Mike DAntoni, who I now take lessons with and he is a fantastic teacher. Hes patient and a great guitarist, but he doesnt spend the lesson showing off--he really teaches! Plus he is super easy to schedule with and hes just an all around great guy. This is by far the best music shop in Charlottesville and the area. Go there, you wont regret it!

I have been let down by this place multiple, multiple times. They did not have a standard, black hard case that would hold a standard sized Stratocaster in stock at the store. I could get one with leopard print, but they dont stock a case for the most popular guitar body in existence. They had a very poor selection of guitar straps that didnt look like caution tape or were littered with skulls, and do not service amps in store. There are smaller local shops in Cville that offer more service and selection than this place with employees that actually care. When the guy working here told me they didnt have a case to fit a Strat, he goes right back to reading his magazine without attempting to offer any solution like he doesnt care about my business either way. I also realize that they specialize in specialty guitars, but it seems odd to me with a store that is entirely devoted to GUITARS that they dont at least entertain the idea of having a few Fender, Gibson or Martin models. This place really is worthless.
