Who doesnt like good ice cream? This is the place to come for real creamy home good ice cream right here. It is also in walking distance to everything. Walnut street Bridge, north shore, restaurants, millers park, etcButter pecan milkshake and coffee/mocha something that they said was lovely if you are a coffee ☕ conasor
Great Ice Cream for a good price. The line was very long but the workers moved people through quickly. They have a variety of flavors including Sorbets and Dairy-Free we will definitely be back!
I got the burnt sugar brownie and it was unique, delicious, and reasonably priced. Fast and friendly service. Cute location. Overall a wonderful experience and I’ll be returning.
So, so tasty! And the service was incredibly fast! We waited in a short line outside the building (due to social distancing recommendations), but the line moved quickly, and we ordered, and by the time we had paid, my ice cream was ready! I got a one scoop of Cookies N Creme with a waffle cone, and it was perfect! Theres a huge variety of flavors, but this classic flavor was amazing in itself. We walked across the pedestrian bridge while I ate it and had a lovely evening by the river!
My family and I visited Clumpies while vacationing in the area. We enjoyed the ice cream and the staff were super friendly. During my visit I appreciated the continuation of the mask wearing policy they have in place. While the vaccines have been a tremendous win in the global pandemic none provide a 100% guarantee that you will not contract covid and it has not been proven that the current vaccines available are effective against some of the new emerging variants. There have been breakthrough cases where people have still contracted the virus; therefore, it is in the best interest of the public to continue to where mask in an environment where you will come in contact with those outside of your normal circle in an enclosed environment. Thank you Clumpies for good ice cream and your decision to help the public stay safe and protect your workers. I will return when I’m in the area with my mask!
It was good and enjoyable but a bit simple. The staff was amazing and the ice cream tasted great. I would recommend this place.
Visited Clumpies 4/2020 during the pandemic and it was absolutely delicious. We needed to get out of the house so we decided to just take a drive. After driving for two hours, we saw Clumpies and decided stop in. Everyone was masked, socially distanced, hand sanitizer station setup, and no inside dining, Awesomely good!
A good ice cream spot. Always busy, always yummy.
Great ice cream, as always, but still requiring Masks over a month after the CDC said that it was unnecessary. No indoor seating still. They’re also running out of certain products. They’re so abundantly woke. I won’t be back until they discontinue the stupidity.
Ice cream was just okay, the employees all seemed like it was their first day on the job, one was throwing a fit and didn’t know how to make a milkshake, and the line took forever not because of how many people but because of how slow they were working, they weren’t giving out samples so it wasn’t because of that either. The manager or woman in the office requested one of the employees to meet with her while they were making no progress with the line, I would expect if it was so bogged down the manager would come out and help and not take away a set of hands. Really a sad ice cream shop and I love ice cream and generally have no bad things to say about a cute local ice cream shop in towns I’m visiting. Also, some people in front of us left when they got to the front to order because so many flavors were out and the outside sign didn’t say all of the out flavors so you wouldn’t know until you waited in the line to order and see the sign at the register.
Tried to take my mother to get ice creme for Mother’s Day. They told her to stand outside to be served like a second class citizen because she had no mask. The mask mandate in Hamilton County has ended, if you require people to wear a mask to buy ice creme you need to provide them to the customer since it is not a county requirement it is your store’s requirement. And you need to learn how to speak to customers, absolutely unacceptable and will never return again as a result.
Icecream was delicious. There was a long line but it went fast. The wirkers was very friendly. Great stop on a warm day walking around Chattanooga.
Some of the ice cream flavors taste nice (blackberry cobbler, lemon basil), others not so much. But it’s not creamy . And some of the flavors were really icy (key lime pie). Strawberry rhubarb hardly had any strawberry rhubarb in it, which was a bummer. Staff was really friendly but very unorganized and messed up a couple of our orders, forgetting the toppings. They scooped up all our ice creams, but let them sit there without handing them to us as we paid. There is no seating, which is very inconvenient. So sorry, I wouldn’t come back.
Their ice cream is decadent, sweet, and delicious. This is one of my favorite stops during the summer after a fun day at Coolidge Park. The lines are long, but the flavors far exceed the inconvenience of the wait. So tasty!
Great ice cream and a nice patio in the back. The ice creams are rich and range from more traditional flavors to unique (such as basil ice cream with lemon curd swirls mmmm).
Great shakes! Probably the best Chocolate milk shake ever🍦💖
Excellent ice cream in classic and contemporary flavors. I have to stop here every time Im in Chattanooga!
Really fantastic ice cream with a truly surprising number of unusual and creative flavor combinations. Today I enjoyed a whiskey caramel corn flake scoop paired with a blueberry & white chocolate. The staff is helpful and friendly, thoughtfully asking how much product youd like in your cup or cone. Be careful how you respond, this stuff aint cheap. You wont regret it though, as this is some of the most delicious ice cream youll try.
This was the worst experience I’ve ever had at Clumpie’s. When my lil one and I visit Chattanooga (we live 45 minutes away) we almost always stop at Clumpie’s for a sweet ice-cream treat. On this particular visit we were woefully disappointed.I had one scoop in a waffle cone. The cone was slightly burnt, shorter than normal and there were two eraser size holes in the bottom of the cone. I noticed the holes and asked for a different cone because I knew that it wouldn’t take long for the ice cream to melt and drip through the bottom. I also know that a napkin would’ve been sticky and soaked if pressed against the holes. I kindly asked for another cone ((( something I’ve NEVER had to do here before))) the girl tried to give me another cone and asked me to transfer my ice cream to the other cone with a flimsy plastic spoon. Can you imagine me attempting to scoop my ice cream, as it melted, plastic teaspoon by plastic teaspoon into the other cone??? ((Rhetorical))She gave me a new cone and that was nice but the employees should be throwing out defective cones instead of trying to serve ice cream in them to begin with.My lil one had a kid scoop in a cake cone. I asked for ONE Cherry on top for my lil one and I was upcharged 1$. One whole dollar for one cherry. My lil one always gets one cherry every time we visit Clumpie’s and I’ve never been charged before. Now I am aware that toppings are a dollar, but ONE cherry!!!??? If it was 5 cherries or sprinkles etcetera I’d be very understanding, but that was not the case!!! So I was refunded the dollar and I promptly placed it in the tip jar.The ice cream was good but the customer service and waffle cone were quite disappointing.
Great Ice-cream. Rude employees.Edit: 4 months later, still rude employees. Seriously, lighten up. Try enjoying your job and not taking it out on the customers.Response: It was what they said and how they said it. Such as... I picked up my milkshake and walked to the door. While doing so, I realized it was leaking out the side. I went back to the counter and showed the kid the crack in the cup and he said What did you do!?? Then he proceeded to poke at the hole with his finger{not gloved} and then dump it in another cup and tried to give me it. ~ No thank you, you just had your finger in it. Then he complained the whole time it was being remade...
Horrible service.. No one greeted us... Workers standing around doing nothing... Had to ask if could order... As always Icecream was wonderful
This was our 1st time ever going to Clumpies. It was late, close to closing time. Yet, there were 3 employees there, and they all 3 were very eager to help. The 2 young men ended up serving us. Both were quick to answer our questions, and very polite.I really liked the building too. Very old but hip. Loved the fact that you could sit indoors or out on a patio. From inside, you could see the main road and the back you can see the scenery of Coolidge Park, the 2 bridges that are lit up. It was very quiet and nice.I recommend this place for great service, great ice cream, great views and just being in a great atmosphere.
Not so impressed with clumpies last night. Great service and ambiance, but the ice cream was very lacking.
Great ice cream, terrible service. They were out of 13 flavors and you can barely get the servers attention. Theyre just hanging out behind the counter talking.
They were super sweet and made delicious ice cream even more fun. Now to the ice cream, the carrot cake ice cream is the best ice cream I’ve ever tasted!! Can’t WAIT to go back.
Overall enjoyable, a pretty standard ice cream place, nothing special
The ice cream at this place is nothing like I have had anywhere else. The kids absolutely loved it, and the atmosphere here is awesome. Its a relatively new business, but it being in an older setting gives it kind-of a 1950s ice cream parlor feel, while being obviously modern simultaneously. The smell inside this place makes you want to have a gallon of whatever ice cream is generating it (obviously a mix of all, but you know my point). We truly look forward to returning. If this review helped you, please like it.
I have been holding this review back long time and still cannot believe this place has not gotten better over multitude of time. I came back to Chattanooga a few weeks before because of business trip and my husband is fan of the espresso chocolate crunch from Clumpies Ice Cream. Let it be known I have gave this establishment many chances and opportunities to correct some of major error and some these are issues beyond last visit. The ice cream start melting immediately after you receive and the flavors are just strange to me. Their is a fine line between creativity and toddler food. The whole building look as if it is falling apart, I really felt I was going to fall through the floor boards. The vents are disgusting. Toppings are stale. The bathrooms are always abysmal. I have seen many dead bugs on ground in my previous visits. And the staff horribly rude every time I have come here. That is my main issue. I have spotted multiple employees on phones as customers were in line, instead of making helpful suggestions. Nothing but gossip as I paid for ice cream. and I did not appreciate a rather grumpy employee named Ariana rushing me when trying to select flavor. That is the problem with phones in work area. Distraction. I have encountered the same issues in the past and given the benefit of doubt but I am over it. I love rock city and I love the incline but this is simply one part of rock city that I am not get on board with. Terrible investment on rock city end. I am writing this to inform people to lower expectations when arriving here. Done giving my business.
Great stop while enjoying a walk
Out of like half of their flavors. Good luck with that.
Second best ice cream in Chattanooga. Long lines tell you it is very popular and well loved. Great selection of flavors. Great local brand for this two location treat main-stay down town. Limited seating at both locations and no parking but a great refreshing treat from walk or shopping. Very popular with the college to middle school group. Families welcomed. Something for everyone.
Caramel whisky cornflake crunch. It’s absolutely the best out there.
Great ice cream! So many choices. Everyone in the family was happy with their choice. I agree with some other reviews that it is more sweet than creamy, but overall very good ice cream.
I had a terrible experience because the ice-cream tasted awful. Luckily, Owen Newman made me feel better!
If I could give this establishment 0 stars, I would. This was a sub par ice cream shop before covid, but the times we have been back since we have been treated very rudely by the young kids that work here. The business is very intense about social distancing and masking, which we’ve previously abided by, but it feels like you’re walking on egg shells the whole time you’re in the place. No friendly service here. Like others have mentioned in previous reviews, the workers are grumpy, snappy, and on their cell phones a lot. The last time I went in (after the TN governor lifted the state wide mandate) one of the girls working got intense about wearing a mask, and when we told her we didn’t have them due to the mandate being lifted, she told us we would have to buy one from them to be served ice cream. Let me be clear, ALL other establishments we’ve frequented in Chatt since the mandate was lifted have not forced masks, but left it optional to the customer’s discretion. If a private owned business has the right to refuse you service when the state you live in does not have a mask mandate, you should provide your customer with the face covering you are so worried about them wearing. We walked down to Ice Cream Show and got friendly customer service, and just as good ice cream. Won’t be frequenting Clumpies again.
Great ice cream. Good variety of choices. There is at least one vegan option and some dairy-free options. They do their pricing by weight. A waffle cone goes up to around $3.00. You can mix and match scoopes. You can get a waffle, sugar cake cone and bowls. The atmosphere is nice and pleasant. Its in a good place downtown and next to a lot of places just by walking.
Always deliciously wonderful ice cream with so many fun flavors!
As others have said, be prepared to wait, but please DO WAIT! The ice cream is extremely smooth and full of flavor. They have typical flavors and some Ive never heard of - firecracker (tastes like cotton candy and has pop rocks in it). The employees were obviously rushed, but were never rude and accommodated every taste request we had. The missing star was because the bathroom was in terrible condition. It WAS very busy, but still. It was worth the stop and we will be back!
Horrible customer service, my out of town family went there. We bought pop rocks ice cream and wasnt told theres no pop rocks in it. Brought it home and called the store was told theyd replace it. Went back and the manager Cassie changed her mind, pretty much told me I was a lier. Wouldnt replace the ice cream. I wont bring family here again, I will never go myself either.
This is a Chattanooga staple. Everything they offer is wonderful, and their staff are always on the ball. Cant go wrong here
Bathrooms closed, due to Covid, Im sure. Whole entryway blocked off, due to Covid, but then everyone has to turn around and go past the people standing in line to leave. Meanwhile, the entire foyer is wide open. Back door is exit only, so we walked our children out to sit down on the porch to wait for the ice cream and couldnt get back in. Theres NO HANDLE ON THE DOOR. What kind of absolute idiot runs this place? I wish we hadnt spent $50 for this garbage.
Long line but moved rather quickly. Good homemade ice cream.
Delicious ice cream!! Weve been to both locations in Chattanooga and theyre both great.
Best ice cream we had it a long long time. We spent all day at the Tennessee aquarium the walked over the walnut bridge then had ice cream and ate in the beautiful park close to the river before taconooga! Everything was great in Chattanooga! Best ice cream before dinner, and it didnt ruin anything!
Best icecream this side of the Mississippi 💯💯💯💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Ice cream was very good and staff was awesome!!
Very rude customer service. Super slow staff. Never come here. 👎👎👎
We stopped by after dinner and had a great experience. Due to COVID, they werent allowed to give testers. I was worried because were from out of town and I didnt know if Id like the flavors. But the woman behind the counter was really patient and helped me choose a flavor. She even offered if I didnt like it that shed replace it. Not only was the ice cream delicious, but that was some of the best hospitality that Ive ever had.
Wow! This was our first visit of many to come for sure! The ice cream was phenomenally delicious! So creamy and the flavors were divine! Great customer service by friendly staff. Due to COVID and social distancing the wait was a little long.
Fair price and excellent taste
Ice cream is delicious! There is a good variety of both unique and classic flavors. The staff is friendly and helpful.
The carrot Cake ice cream & banana pudding ice cream are delicious
So delish!!
Ice cream was extremely good and was at a great place. Please go support this group. Staff was awesome 👍
Awesome ice cream
On a very HOT day in Chattanooga my husband and I decided to get some ice cream. Upon entering we were asked what we wanted then immediately after paying and receiving the ice cream we were told to GET OUT! It was 94 outside and we just wanted to enjoy our ice cream in the air conditioning so it wouldnt melt!! I found them extremely rude!!
Understaffed, line took forever
I went there to get ice cream yesterday and they said I had to have a mask even though the mask mandate is over so who is going to have a mask with them just to get ice cream . The time before this a guy did come out to get my order this time they didnt I will not be going back I did like to go there with friends and family when they came into town but now I will just go across the bridge or one of the other many ice cream shops
This place use to serve a consistent quality product, but that all changed when ownership changed a few years ago. The ice cream’s consistency is very icy and even chalky at times. The flavors are flat. Since Clumpies was purchased by Rock City it seems that they are more concerned about quantity versus quality and expanding their locations instead of perfecting what they’ve got.
Great selection of Vegan Ice cream. Thank you Clumpies!
The Butter Pecan and cookie dough is amazing
NOM NOM NOM! The ice cream flavors I had here were phenomenal! I had two flavor of the day selections. The first was a nutella base (not as sweet as youd think) with bits of chocolate covered baked crepe pieces mixed throughout. The 2nd flavor was Oatmeal Apple Butter. Toasted oats mixed with a big dollop of apple butter mixed in a sweet cream base. The whole family had a wonderful experience with the friendly staff. The only drawback was that the bathroom was closed to the public.
Clumpies is a Chattanooga institution. Honestly, I had been only once before and didnt think it was worthy of a 5-star review. However, I have now been there twice in the past week and it really is a great ice cream shop. Really diverse and interesting featured seasonal flavors. The White Chocolate Peppermint was my favorite. Ice cream is a great texture and shakes are authentic. Everything is home made, including great hot fudge sauce. Definitely will be on my regular rotation! Pricing is odd in that its done by weight, so you can easily ring up an expensive bill, but they will make small scoops if you ask them. Also, theyre happy to let you try as many flavors as you want before toy decide on one (or more)!
The best Ice cream in town.
Cute place! Not a lot of seating but the ice cream is pretty tasty and not bad priced. A little hard to find if you are not familiar with the area but worth it when you get there. It was super crowded when we got there but the staff got though the line pretty quickly. I was impressed with how upbeat they remained. The staff was also very friendly.
This place is to die for! Sooooooo good! When you walk in you are hit with the smell of warm waffle cones. If you are lucky you can get an ice cream in a fresh warm waffle cone. It is mouth watering. I do not have a favorite ice cream there because everyone of them i have tried so far has been delicious. The service is great too, very friendly and willing to answer all your questions and help you make a decision on which ice to get. It is a must if you are in the area.
They are decent but their service is trash, they don’t only want to make a business out of ice cream but want to charge me 2 dollars for a mask! Unbelievable
So good. So busy, bit so good. Lines go fast, taste whatever ones you want. Usually some unique flavors. We hit it up every time were in Chattanooga.
They have excellent quality and selection. You can have your ice cream in a cup, sugar cone, waffle cone or make it into a milkshake. The service is quick and friendly. Great to get a cone and walk around the park to enjoy. They have a good amount of seating inside but can get crowded at times.
Some of the best ice cream Ive ever had.
Yes great touristy spot and atmosphere. Tourist prices. Its not bad at all and I dont not recommend it. And I really cant compare it to other ice cream shops in the general area. But if we try those other shops and they dont make the cut....I might add another star! 😉
Weve tried Clumpies several times. Ive had ice crystals in my ice cream EVERY TIME. Well go across the river to The Ice Cream show or order from Ben & Jerrys.
Our favorite ice cream in town! The sorbets are superb!
