This is a cool place that is definitely worth checking out. I had a dresser refurbished and I love the new look and color.. But its expensive and not perfect- paint was mistakenly sprayed into one of the drawers, they didnt clean-up hardware that I requested and confirmed via email, I had to vacuum out the drawers before I could put clothes into them, and they can be tricky to get ahold of via phone.
I would rate them zero stars if I could. Their customer service is atrocious. I’ve ordered three times from them. The first was a piece of furniture that was estimated to be done in two months and I hadn’t heard anything from them so I checked in and it was delayed but finally came around the four month mark. The second I ordered a piece of “art”. I say art loosely because it was black Sharpie written on a piece of paper, shipped in a non-sturdy bubble wrap package. It came bent in half with holes in it. My third order is currently being only partially refunded after it has been over two and a half months since I ordered the home goods items because “their return policy is to not refund custom items”. I just re-read the policy and it only states custom “pieces” aka furniture are non refundable. It says nothing about anything but furniture on their refund policy. I checked in about my order but heard nothing so I checked in again and got a vague “everything is a bit delayed right now” and given no timeline or even any information on my order. I haven never been treated so poorly by any company, ever. They could have done better at every single step but I was continuously let down. Emails went days without being answered and met with vague answers and little information. Their social media looks so pretty and perfect but it’s a total let down, in my experience. I expected more. I guess that’s my fault.
Overall, it was an OK experience. Luckily I was the only individual shopping when I found an awesome set of 6 dining chairs so did not have an issue with getting assistance (as mentioned in some other reviews). I was a little surprised the chairs were going to take 6 weeks from time of purchase (something not mentioned until I paid in full) but I thought they were worth waiting for so no biggie. I was also told someone would give me a call a few weeks before the chairs were finished to touch base. This never happened, but again, no big deal. Now I understand Covid has impacted all businesses, big & small, and is the cause of some delays. However, it is not an excuse for poor customer service. With my furniture pick up date set for Aug 31st, I decided to call about a week prior to ensure they would be ready to go. I had to leave a message & received a returned voicemail the next day confirming pick up for Aug 31st.When the date rolled around, I made a quick call before driving over the MegMade and was told the chairs were not ready? Its infuriating that I had to do all the follow up and received an extremely lackluster apology for MegMades delay. So after waiting an additional week, the chairs were finally ready. But again, disappointing experience. I was told to pull around the store to load where I was greeted by a man- not wearing a mask- who just started bringing out the chairs and loading before I could look at anything. Weird when youre spending over a thousand dollars on something. The chairs are more or less what I was expecting, but they werent clean when picked up (sawdust all over) and there are a few spots on the legs that were missed in the painting process.
A rough experience that continues as I write this. We had two antique pieces repainted. They were delivered incomplete and some shelves missing. We brought back the drawers to have them finish painting the spots that were left bare and asked them to please confirm with delivery company that everything was on the truck before they sent it back. 2nd delivery came. Still no shelves. And a broken drawer. Contacted store again. 3rd delivery came today. Drawer fixed but they sent someone elses shelves. Was told owner (Meg) would call to discuss. Still waiting..........hard to say anything about actual painting as the service and response has been dissapointing to say the least. Calls to store were answered with indifference. Overall a less than satisfactory experience. And still waiting for shelves.
Megmade is great they have pleasant staff and a nice selection of furniture accompanied by an in house shop in the rear
My husband and I stopped into the store to inquire about whether Megmade could paint a Heywood Wakefield coffee table top. I was told that this was something Megmade could do, and I was told to send a photo in order to get a quote. I did send a photo, and I heard nothing back. Since I have had some problems with my Email, I sent another another Email, giving another Email address where I could be contacted. I also said that if this project was too small. I would appreciate knowing that so I could look for another place to handle this project. I have yet to hear back from Megmade. I have several other projects in mind, but I won’t be looking to Megmade to do them.
Very neat place.
Very cool place
Been following MegMade for years and decided to pull the trigger. Im super happy to support this local small business. The finish turned out great and I absolutely love the piece! Definitely coming back for more!
The pieces are beautiful and stock is great. There is a clear sign that says open to the public, but I felt specifically unwelcome when I walked in. I was looking for a specific piece for my mother and budget wasn’t an issue, but it felt like the scene in Pretty Woman. I shouldn’t need to flashy cash to feel welcome in a store. Disclaimer- I present Hispanic and thought it could be that but my mother (who is white and presents white) went on her own to give them the benefit of the doubt and they treated her the exact same way. Got the feeling that if you don’t have an appointment or aren’t working with a designer than you aren’t welcome.
I recently made a big move from Kansas to Pennsylvania. I needed quite a few new pieces and Meg, Joe and their staff were absolutely unbelievable. The attention to detail, the way they wrap the furniture to make sure it remains flawless and the way they continuously communicate with their customers to ensure they are getting exactly what they need, is beyond a 5-star rating! I am so grateful for everything they have done for me so far and I know there is more to come. Every person that walks into my condo immediately comments on my furniture! I proudly say I got it at MegMade! Thank you very much for all you have done!
I am very pleased with my sideboard from MegMade. They were responsive to my emails and provided updates on the status of the product when requested. The timeline for delivery was slightly longer than expected, but based on the finished product, it was worth the wait!
MegMade is your one stop shop for unique and custom home furnishings. MegMade has perfected the art of restoring one-of-a-kind treasures with top notch craftsmanship. No other painted or restored furniture vendor can compare. MegMade will help you A-Z in creating the look you want. Not to mention, Meg and her team are a joy to work with! Almost every room in our home has a beauty from MegMade. You won’t be disappointed!!
Went in, waited...browsed for a bit. Found a piece I liked...waited. Finally went i to the back to find someone, asked the guy of there was someone to help me, he said he could, went up to the front...waited some more, then left.
I live in the neighborhood and want to support local business but right off the bat I did not feel like this was a very neighborly place. I walked in and was greeted with a cold smile less hello-what are you looking for. I work in the service industry and everyone I work with is genuine and appreciative of our customers. This kind of first interaction just makes me wanna turn around and leave.I stayed out of curiosity. Everything seems reasonably priced and of good quality. They have beautiful restored furniture pieces but did not have what I was looking for. I did buy a small decorative object and had to pay with credit card because I did not have exact amount for my purchase ( no change).Your experience may differ and you can try to guess why... Note that there is often traffic on the surrounding streets and delivery trucks will be blocking the one way street and the alley right by the store. Not a lot of parking space either.
MegMade did an amazing job painting our daughters bedroom furniture. We are thrilled with the results. The furniture was mine from childhood, and they made an old set new again. The pieces are white and are simply beautiful. My 9 year old daughter initially wanted brand new furniture when we moved, but shes now in love with what she has. Thanks MegMade!
We had 2 pieces of furniture that were refinished to look more modern. Lauren at MegMade was VERY responsive to me throughout the entire process. I couldnt decide on a color and she was patient with me and shared as many samples that I asked for. She also helped me choose new hardware for both pieces of furniture which aided in the whole transformation. The delivery process was very professional at both pick up and drop off. I am very happy with my new furniture and will definitely be working with MegMade in the future. Thank you MegMade!!
MegMade is a wonderful company! Their stuff is really amazing - so creative and beautifully done. i love that Meg and her team take old - often unloved- furniture and give it a second or third life. Its such a great idea - and they do it right. Great white glove delivery by people who care. my chest of drawers is GORGEOUS!
I bought a nice piece of furniture about 4 years ago and paid a lot. I recently came back looking for another but it seems that the prices have tripled since then.
Don’t order rugs through MegMade! They never kept us up to date on our order, and I ended up having to reach out to the supplier directly, numerous times, throughout my months of waiting. Not worthwhile. Throughout weeks of waiting for the rug, MegMade continued to not respond to phone messages and emails. Even though I understand how difficult it is to deal with another wholesaler, MegMade was the one who was unresponsive to me, which is why I remain disappointed.
I will start off by saying that I cannot speak to the quality of their products. I live in the neighborhood and have had my daily life impacted negatively by MegMade and their staff. I have emailed and begged for change and been met with lip service that smacks of derision. Their staff parks in the ally (we are on a one way street) with impunity and when notified by phone they deny it. Funny thing...I have a time stamped picture (a ton of them) and personally watched a man come out of their building to move the truck after someone else was honking a ton. We have had to start putting a lock on our dumpster otherwise its filled with broken chunks of wood and shipping material. The covered our car with plastic and tape without asking while they spray painted the building. To this day some of the tape isnt off. But all of this is just inconvenient. The headaches are the worst part. We come home to an apartment thick with varnish fumes all summer long. It is terrible. We dont have central air. More often than not we try to keep the window AC units off to save money. With the fumes, we end up spending a lot more money on our electric bill. Even then the headache inducing fumes are present for the duration of all warm months. I have been begging them since last summer to please help us. If your staff needs to wear respirators to work around it what are we ingesting by air? Must be pretty bad. In short they do not care about this neighborhood or the well being of other people.
Our second time buying from MegMade and no regrets. I spoke with Shelby who was incredibly personable and helpful. She sold us a gorgeous restored sectional for a very reasonable price. I pull up the uhaul and the guys loaded it in less than a minute. Hard to find people like this anymore.
Very pleased with the job they did repairing our wobbly dining room chairs. Based on their work, I’m confident that they’ll see us through many more years of holiday meals and family gatherings.
Fabulous experience with MegMade. Picked out a beautiful buffet, selected the finish we wanted it painted in, and it was delivered right on schedule. Everyone from the sales process to the delivery team were so helpful and kind, and I most definitely plan on being a repeat customer :)
I love this store! They do an amazing job and are real craftsmen. My husband and I love our dresser from here!
The only reason I am not giving them 1 star is because I like the furniture I bought and the color I picked. Unfortunately nothing else went right. They completely desregarded all of the instructions and requests I had made. As this is a custom piece of furniture I needed it to fit exactly and it was all wrong.I purchased an old dresser to be converted into a vanity. I requested to replace the legs, and even purchased the correct ones per their instructions. As I did not want my vanity to be too tall I explained what the max height of my end product would be (including stone) and theyd told me to purchase 8inch legs and theyll cut them down to size. This did not happen and the vanity was super tall. My contractor spent an hour on this and that cost me another 100$. The response from Meg was the equivalent of a shrug. Sorry bout that, guess we forgot. She was willing to send her people to pick it up and fix this but that of course was no longer am option as the contractor was prepared to install it. Then we found out that while I requested that he legs be moved a few inches to make room for baseboard on the sides, they were not, and this was received with an annoying oops and Ill talk to my team on Monday. That of course did not help me and my contractor had to work on this as well. Next up we learned that while my plan was to install an undermount sink, they had cut the sink holes to fit an overmount sink. So contractor was back at work at 8pm sawing this to fit. Paint for retouches was not included so they had to deliver is especially the next day. It all came with a shrug, as if they dont care at all.On top of this, the vanity was ready a week later than estimated, and though I begged for a heads up to get my contractor ready to pick up asap, they didnt do that for me and it took an extra week to come in, and then all these issues, and then another 500$ extra for my contractor having to fix all of their faux pas. What can I tell you? Id stay away, Ill make sure to tell everyone I know and Ill find a more professional place to work with next time.
Great options! A little pricey though1
Refinished a dresser to its natural wood state, and it’s absolutely stunning!! I live out of state so it was a little nerve racking not to see the dresser in person ever, but they did a fantastic job!!
Besides the exorbitant price for painting a piece of furniture they broke it in the process and tried to cover it up by tacking in plastic floor base you would find at Home Depot (picture illustrate). Though they admitted to their actions and offered small restitution, they have not even honored that, and chose to be non-responsive. Accidents happen, but this type of treatment is completely disrespectful and they should not be in a service industry. Zero stars!
Great business with the highest quality of workmanship in their niche industry
Amazing from start to finish. High quality at good prices and excellent service.
I recently visited Megmade in Chicago for what I thought was a quick visit. I had no idea what awaited me! Their showroom exhibits gorgeous furniture, beautiful pillows and jewelry, and a furniture closet that would make any DIY pro green with envy. I do not let myself get carried away with pretty things though; customer service is what counts most. MegMade has that down packed! They were kind, helpful, extremely knowledgeable and all around great people. I went in to purchase One-Step paint by Amy Howard and walked out with plans to return for a lot more. Thanks Meg!!
It seems to me that the business has gotten too big and quality and attention to detail just isnt there any more. I have purchased three items from Meg Made over the last three years. I most recently ordered a china hutch and a buffet to use as an entertainment center. My issue is with the buffet... first I had to send it back so they could put shelves in instead of drawers, even though I had told them that is what we wanted initially. They made me pay extra for the shelves, which was really upsetting when it was their mistake, and in addition I had to wait two more weeks to get my furniture. I get the buffet and everything seems ok until I notice there are drips on the front center of the item, not good. Then, less than a month after having the item, a handle falls off one of the drawers. I noticed that the handle was already fixed badly and Meg wont call or email me back to fix the handle or find a replacement after over a month of contacting them frequently. Now I have a $1000+ broken buffet that I have owned for a couple months, such a bummer.
I gotta be honest the first experience with Megmade was amazing. We bought a French oversized dresser (9ft wide) which they provided a 5 star delivery service to the fourth floor of our town home. As a satisfied customers we went back to give them repeat business this time having a piece refinished we already own and have some night stands they have in the customize section of their show room. Several Facebook messages, voice mails and email over last few weeks cant get anyone to call me back. If Im giving them my business I shouldnt have to chase them down. If it wasnt for the amazing quality on the first transaction Id rate them less than 4 stars. Id recommend only going through them for a finished piece trying to get anything custom down isnt worth chasing them down.
Very easy to work with and cannot wait to see final product!
Great little furniture store
