Came here for the first time today, very nice and roomy dine in area. They were really busy, so be prepared to wait a bit for your order or to even get your order taken during busy times. The food was okay, chicken tastes like freezer burn, but the bagels are soft and delicious! They serve Caribou coffee as well, nice drink selections. The employees hate their jobs and its very noticeable by how moody they are. We sat by the ordering counter and we could hear them arguing with each other the whole time we were there. Other than that, great place to get bagels! I would probably do delivery or pickup next time to avoid the wait and crabby employees.
I hate to be that basic b**** that says “if I could give it zero stars, I would,” but if I could give it zero stars that would be one too many. First off, the ordering process.. There was no sign saying the coffee was self service so after two instructional coffee orders we were rudely snapped at that we could do it ourselves so move on. We ordered four bagels with spreads which shouldn’t be too complicated but one bagel had the cheapest serving of cream cheese I’ve ever seen (see photo) and my brother ended up with an Asiago bagel with jalapeño cream cheese instead of a cinnamon raisin bagel with butter... Samsonite, I was way off. I’ll justify the one star with my appreciation for the ironic name of this shop. Touché, Einstein, touché.
Went in right as store opened at 7am on a Sunday morning. Food was good, coffee was good, employees were friendly, we were served quickly. 2 star review is just because the place was filthy when it opened. Tables weren’t wiped, bags weren’t put into trash cans, toilet paper wasn’t filled, and floor wasn’t vacuumed from the night before. Also, one employee sat outside in his car the whole time we were there putting cups and napkins into bags - which seemed like an inefficient use of time seeing as the restaurant was not clean
Been to Einstein at other locations and have always enjoyed the food & service, but this location doesnt offer much in terms of cleanliness or service. The food isnt bad, but when the employees arent courteous and the service is slow, it just makes this an Einstein to avoid. Best to head to Coreys NYC down the street.
I ordered the turkey sausage & cheddar on an everything bagel and added on the hash brown & coffee to make it a meal. The bagel sandwich was terrific & tasty. The hash brown was cold in the middle, I brought it up and they made me a new one. However, the undesirable taste of the first cold one stuck with me and overshadowed that aspect. There was no creamer or half and half out. I notified the staff behind the desk, they thanked me and did nothing. That 2nd strike on service irked me. I wanted to enjoy some coffee with my sandwich. When I was done eating, I caught another staff member who promptly put some creamer out.
I was a little wary to return to Einsteins after a previous experience I had at another location. This one, however, is fantastic. Even though they were out of the bagel I wanted, they were happy to substitute another bagel for my sandwich and of course it still tasted amazing. I think this is going to be a new regular lunch spot for me.
Food was fine, coffee was great. Poor review solely for management yelling at cashier in front of customers... while we were in line waiting. What is wrong with you? You dont discipline your employees in front of customers you sociopath.
Agree with service & inefficiency comments. There is no order fulfillment flow even with 3 employees working the order board. The two times that stick out for me, because I always go in thinking it will be better this time, they completely skipped my order & I ended up waiting over 25 mins for a bagel with cream cheese. The next time, after waiting 22 minutes, they did not put cheese on the breakfast sandwich. I then get told that they cannot open the sandwich, which they made, to put the cheese on! I would have to wait for a new one to be made (no thanks) or they can give me the cheese and I can put it on myself - I think you can guess the option I went for. If you have time to kill, go here, if you want to be in and out quickly...AVOID!!
I keep falling into the trap of going here since I work across the street. It is so horribly inefficient, a simple bagel sandwich consistently takes 20 minutes to get, while Coreys NYC bagel down the street can do it in 3 minutes. They have five people working during lunch, but one is on break, the other is idling by the register, and another is sitting at a table flicking at his phone, leaving two people to prep food during their busiest times. The staff is very self aware that they are slow, and see to embrace they fact they are slow. For my own mental health, I had to stop going here. Seeing how a basic operation of making mediocre bagel sandwiches is so thoroughly slow and mismanaged drives me nuts. Dont get sucked in!
Waited over 10 mins for a bagel with cream cheese. Coffee was mediocre. Bagel was good. But not worth the wait.
Just walked out and what a poor experience with staff. You can quickly tell there is just a poor vibe here. Slow service, staff that just looks like they dont want to be there, confusion behind counter. Got me looking around and dirty first thing in morning. Obviously a staff issue all around. Wont be going to this location any more. Good bagels so please work on this hiring.
They re my regular guys now. I work in real estate and I ve been using their services for over a year now. They check that everything is working smoothly in the property before I list it. I haven t had any negative comments from clients or inspectors thanks to them.
Food was good but had to wait well over 20min and remind the worker multiple times about our iced coffee. Only go if you have half an hour to spare to get your order. Also apparently the “order here” sign means nothing. Step down to the other cash register
I arrived at the restaurant excited for my bagels. when i got there they refused to take my order saying that “they didn’t know if they had the bagels needed to complete other orders” however the display case was full of a wide assortment of bagels. they then proceeded to speak in a condescending and demeaning way. the bagels are delicious and if they can fix organization and management problems, this will be a fine establishment.
The staff are rude, waste time, and often take several minutes to even acknowledge the presence of their customers. The number of staff was almost equal to the customers yet I wasn’t helped after several minutes. I walked out and left, and if they noticed at all I’m sure they were happy to see me go. Complete waste of time during my morning commute. I’ve had at least acceptable service there on occasion, which is why I gave them two stars, but it’s so typically bad I can no longer bite my tongue. They’ve lost my business.
Great spot for an easy morning breakfast. Everyone working here was very friendly. It does get very busy, but as long as youre patient or order online first.
Alrighty bagel sandwiches. Nice customer service. Best place for a quick lunch. Fair alert: got over toasted shrunken baby bagels
The young lady who made my berry smoothie was so nice. The one making the bagels was pretty mean the whole time. It wasnt even that serious.
This Einstein is by far the best Ive been to of the chain. The staff here is quick with orders and absolutely delightful at all times of the day. The food is also definitely some of the best Ive had for the price.
I love Einstein - great bagels and breakfast sandwiches. Everything bagel is my favorite. Cant speak to coffee as I am not a coffee drinker.
The best ever. Sesemi begel toasted with cream cheese. I must be really hungary. I loved it. Thank you guys.
1) Missed my train because it took forever to make my bagel w/ egg and turkey sausage2) There was no turkey sausage on my bagel when I received it and the cheddar looked and tasted as though it hadnt even been cooked/melted3) Ran out of iced coffee and told me it would take too long to replaceComing from NY, these are not bagels. This is circular bread and terrible circular bread at that. This will be my first and last time at an Einstein bagels. The one upside is the employees were super nice.
These are not Bagels. These are buns shaped like bagels. the place was very clean and efficient but these are not bagels!
Have been here a few times because we love the bagels, but this is the last time. Not sure why they keep these places open. Poorly ran and nobody cares. We came in at 9:45 on a Saturday and they were almost completely out of bagels and they said it would be an hour before they had more. We ordered what they had and sat down. While eating a group of 20 people came in and sat at the register for 10 minutes and nobody helped them at the register - even though there was about 10 people working. The group of people ended up leaving and the workers just laughed.Einstein - just close your doors in Chicago!
Einstein Bagels is awesome. Tasty food, Caribou coffee, friendly staff and decent WiFi. Ive been here several times and its always a pleasant experience.
Disturbing customer experience at this location. Which sucks because I love the bagels. Everytime I come here I’m beyond shocked at the way this staff treats customers. I can’t even comprehend it honestly. They’re beyond miserable and negative and terribly mean 24/7. They have messed up my order and told me that it’s my fault, they throw my bag of food towards me on the counter while keeping their back to me, not looking at me, not thanking me or saying a word. I feel so disrespected being treated/talked to that way. I could give many stories that would make your jaw drop to the floor but it would make this post way too long. The only reason I come back here is because it’s the only Einstein bagel bros close to my house and I like the bagels but I honestly think I’m done. I feel uncomfortable coming here. One time the girl was so disrespectful to me that I asked her if there was a problem. To what I thought was going to be a good thing, the manager came over. I KID YOU NOT the manager started treating me worse than the employee, saying that it was my fault my order was messed up. It’s disgusting. I worry about what they might do to my food if you know what I mean. My recommendation to the company is to pay attention to how your employees are doing business at this location and do a better job of hiring a staff that doesn’t make customers feel uncomfortable and disrespected to the point where they can’t eat here anymore.
The most unorganized establishment Ive ever experienced. Ordering a sandwich shouldnt take 23+minutes. There goes my lunch break.
Cosy place to grab a cup of coffee/tea with bagel. They also serve lunch sandwiches.
Great place with great food. Their egg and bacon on a bagel is really awesome
Great place for breakfast, large choice of Bagels....and I should know !
Great for a quick bite. A bunch of choices nice front staff. Service was a little slow but food was worth the wait...
Ive tried to eat at this place twice but the service is sooooo slow. The first attempt was two months ago, there were five people ahead of me in line. After waiting ten minutes on only moving up two spots in line I walked out the door.Today I tried to go back. I walked in about 15 minutes before they closed. There was one other customer and four employees that I could see. Just like the time before, I was not greeted whatsoever. I waited in the order line for a couple minutes and then an employee, who appeared to be a manager that was sitting in the corner working on some paperwork yelled across the seating area to another employee that they were closing in ten minutes. I thought she was talking to me, but she clarified that she wasnt and went back to her paperwork in the corner. There were two employees behind the counter but neither acknowledge my presence. They appeared to be cleaning and getting ready to leave. After waiting about five more minutes and not having an employee try to take my order, I walked out and went a couple blocks down the street to NYC Bagel Deli. Im embarrassed for Einstein that they could care so little about the customer experience. Obviously I wont be going back, and I recommend everyone else do the same.
Nice little bakery and breakfast place.
If you want good bagels for a decent price, but cold service for free, this is the place to go! Bagels were really good but the 3 ladies working the morning of July 14th were rude and barely even looked at you when talking to you. Also, while standing to the side to choose what we wanted, we were told to just step up when ready, when we did and someone walked in after we stepped up they took his order while he was standing behind us. RUDE!!!!!!
Impressive levels of not caring by the staff, slowest service Ive ever experienced at a bagel shop. At least I got what I ordered?
Got there about 10am. Ordered coffee and 2 sandwiches..they were out of coffee. All 3 Thermoses were empty. Customers had to tell the workers. They were not prepared. We had to waikt 15-20 min for them to brew. Dont know why they didnt have them ready to be switched out when The thermoses were empty. Very dirty coffee area, and were out of almost all Condiments such as sugar Creamer honey Stir sticks...pretty much uncalled for...lazy workers. Saturday Sept. 9th 2017
This is the longest I have had to wait for a bagel - well over 20 min! Extremely inefficient! Avoid
Only go here if you want to wait 30 mins or more for your breakfast sandwich. Ridiculously under-staffed.
The food is great but the bickering amongst the staff is 100% uncalled for! Also they obviously do jot care about the business if all they can fight about is who is going on break when the place is packed. Oh and chomping on gum like an animal is not very appealing...
I came in for coffee and wifi. The coffee was cold do they brewed a fresh pot. However the fresh coffee didnt taste good.
Very poor service. When customers would like up at the ORDER HERE line, an employee would impatiently tell for people to go down to the other end of the counter to order. I think they should reconsider their queue set up. Then when our order was ready the employee just tossed it across the counter where it fell over. Luckily not off the counter, but the situation showed their lack of attentiveness. Additionally, our friend specifically asked for no cream cheese (shmear) on her sandwhich, but it came with it anyway, and all the maker of the sandwhich had to say was “I made it right” or some such.
This location could possubly win the award for the worst custmer service experience since the genesis of mankind. I waited 20 minutes for one bagel as the staff and management is the definition of disorganiztion.
The restaurant itself is huge, but beware on weekend mornings, as it does get pretty crowded. There was only like 3 people working on a saturday morning when we went, so that didnt help. (if you want better bagels, go a block down, theres a new york bagel place thats super small, but very good)
Pleasant atmosphere, friendly, professional staff, great selection of bagels. This place is very consistent, and its consistently good!
Definitely the best best bagels, overall the experience is cater with professionalism, speed and efficiency.Grate coffeeExcellent breakfast sandwichesFresh squized juices
Busy but not quite jolly. But great selection of bagels
Friendly and energetic staff. Always able to try something new and never disappointed.
Very good bagel sandwiches, located near the Kinzie Hotel.
Not quite HATE but the service was very slow and my toasted bagel was cold. Staff was nice enough but had no idea what to do not enough experience.
I placed a catering order for 12 people for breakfast. I paid $74 and received 10 tiny bagel bites. Chewy (not fresh) tiny 10 bites. Thats it. Absolutely ridiculous. We called Einstein Bros and they laughed and hung up. I called back because I needed a receipt...no can do. Staff in incredibly rude. First and last order.
Love Einstein bagels. Lots of table space at this location. Convenient downtown location.
The staff at the Dearborn Street location is the absolute best! Very friendly and customer service oriented.
I realy had a great time in Chicago. I was lucky to stay at this hotel .It is like to be in middle of down town .every thing is so close to other attractions places.
Awesome employees. Awesome food.
Food is excellent but there is one staff lady that is so rude. Cussing because she has to do her job and talking horrible about customers. She does not need to be in customer service.
Unfriendly staff, just awful customer service. Walk to the order sign then after several minutes, the staff tells you - dont order over here, order over there. They ran out of the bagel for my sandwich and when I asked about an alternative, she advised “you can pick anyone”. That’s nice but you can’t see the bagels from the counter. Rude and incredibly unhelpful. Had to ask 3 different employees before I got my iced coffee. I’ve eaten at many an Einstein Bros. This one doesn’t live up to the name by a long shot. Find another one nearby. If the Einstein Bros are reading this, train your folks or close this shop down.
Horrible service I waited over 20min for 2 beagles and a pastry and then had to ask for my pastry and again for my iced coffee, the lady up front looked like she was on drugs and couldn’t understand what I wanted. Once again just horrible service!
Its Christmas Eve and the are playing Tyler Swifts Christmas Must be Something More, on repeat. I feel for these employees.
At 2pm this was quiet, with the only other customers being the employees children. Unenthusiastic staff producing a relatively unexciting bagel. It tasted OK, so theres that.
Very slow and understaffed. The people working were doing all they could and food was good.
Great roasted asiago bagel with cream cheese and bacon.
The staff seemed a little short handed during a prime brunch hour.
Great service by the ladies at the front. Awesome bagels and shmears. Love the santa fe bagel. I visit them everytime whenever I come to Chicago. Helps me escape the lines at Yolk.
Took me 30min to order to go bagel. Staff doesn’t have any sense of urgency and moves super slowly and unorganized.
Ill give you six stars if you add salt bagels
I loved this place. I do have it were i am from, but never tried it until now. Yes it is overpriced for a lot of items, but honestly it was worth it to sit down in chicago and see a shop not so busy.
Rude staff, counter marked order is closed customers have to order from the counter marked pay here causing alot of confusion. Orders do not include receipts or lables so nobody knows whos order is whos. Tables and floor are filthy, had to clean our own table. This place is such a mismanaged mess.
Avocado toast and chai latte were great!
Friendly staff but sloooooooooow service. Lots of table space to spread out and work.
Clean shop with good food. The draft was helpfully as well. Fully recommend it.
I always love their bagels and coffee.
Nice bagels. Coffee just 👌
Im Herron Easter Saturday and they have a serious crowd, one man threw a fit about his order being lost and the girls were trying to make it right, and hes just making a scene. Honestly crap happens in a restaurant from time to time and if you are the unfortunate one to be that mistake, as long as they try to fix it, get over it. I loved my specialty coffee and the food was great. Long wait but thats to be expected if there is a huge crowd. All in all Im very happy. And too that jerk who made a scene, if you want fast food. Go to mcdonalds. Stop giving these hard workers a hard time on a holiday.
The staff seemed incompetent and took a long time with my order, which they got wrong when it was finished. Would not recommend for a quick grab and go meal
Great service early on a Sunday morning.
Great tasting bagels. The cheesy bacon egg sandwich was a great way to start my day.
They cannot get an order right to save their lives. Their employees are either extremely illiterate or are the most lazy humans on this planet. No location I’ve ever been to has gotten my order right. Ever.
It is alright but service is a bit unorganized and places like Cosi sell you better bagels.
Excellent and fresh bagels! The spread with hazelnuts is awesome!
Service and restaurant cleanliness was horrible when we came on Sunday July 8th. People were walking out of the restaurant after being tired of waiting and dealing with the staff.
I have never successfully gotten exactly what I’ve ordered from this place, and I have no clue why I keep coming back. Go anywhere else.
Good fresh bagels and excellent lemonade but staff are a bit slow
Wide variety of options on the menu, and plenty of seating. The food was delicious and the staff were nice.
Always great bagels with a smile.
Always friendly service, girls behind the counter are always happy to see ya even if there is a line. I get the HAM and Swiss on everything bagel they get it right every time.
Horrible customer service. Staff is very rude and unprofessional. They just stand around and talk to each other as if theyre not at work.
Worst personnel ever!!! Even the supervisor/manager (the white woman in red hair and red clothes) was so unprofessional that all the other garbage employees started rants and confrontation against me the customer. Worth mentioning all the othwr were blacks? Yeah natural behavior I guess they should including the red head woman receive proper CUSTOMER SERVICE/SALES training. SHAME on the owner(s) of this establishment as well to hire and keep employees like these. Very bad experience. Neither me or my friends I know will ever come to this place again. If youre the owner and youre reading this post then an alarm shall ring in your head and take action. If you want more details email me.
It can be a bit slow at times but the service and bagels are good.
Some of the best bagels everrr! So fresh, and always a good selection of them!!! :)
I have always loved Einstein Brothers! They arent very popular where I live now, so when I saw one in Chicago, I was so excited to bring some bagels home. However, my experience there was probably the worst Ive ever experienced at ANY establishment, ever, not just Einsteins. This is gonna be a long review... I walked in with my friend, and went up to the Order Here sign, next to the bagel display. There were three or four workers behind the counter with their backs turned, making sandwiches and such. That was fine, since I needed time to decide anyway. But after about three minutes of waiting, no one had said a word to me, my friend, or the other customer in line. Finally, one of the ladies told us You order over there and pointed to the register. I thought ...ok, well the sign says order here, and this is where the bagels are, but whatever. So I go down to the register, tell her I want half a dozen, and pay. The register girl tells another girl to go get my bagels. I ask if Im allowed to choose, and she says yes. So I go back to the Order Here area. The girl chosen to help me said that she was new, but based what happens next, I find it hard to believe she received any training at all. So, she awkwardly stands behind the bagel display, not saying anything and looking around. So, I start by saying Hi, Ill have two chocolate chip bagels, a blueberry, a garlic-... But I stop because she doesnt appear to be listening, nor is she making any moves to grab a bagel. She says, Blueberry, what? At this point Im really annoyed and tired of being patient with this whole situation, so I decide to do this bagel by bagel. Two chocolate chip bagels She looks around the display, searching. Now, I find it hard to believe that there are no signs on the other side of the display indicating the types of bagels in each basket. If there were such signs, she had no idea, because she had to desperately search for each one as I called it out. I had to point out each bagels location in the display. We continue, and the process takes at least a full minute. So then she sets the bagel box down on the counter and tries to close the top of the box. She clearly has no idea how to close the box correctly. So I tell her I can do it and take my bagel box. Now, one of the reasons I love Einsteins bagels is the chocolate chip bagels. I noticed when she grabbed those two, that she picked one from the Cranberrry side of the basket. I wasnt about to be cheated out of my glorious CC bagels, so I check. Lo and behold, one cranberry and one chocolate chip. So I go back to the counter and explain the situation, and a different girl gives me a chocolate chip bagel. I also noticed when I got home that she gave me a pretzel instead of a potato bagel. Ugh. Thus ends my terrible experience at this Einstein Bros location. I am amazed that they are able to function with such incompetence. Seriously, this location needs to hire higher quality staff, and ensure that theyre trained before putting them on the Sunday mid-morning shift. This was an embarressment.
Green Chilie Club was by far the best I have ever had!!!
Slowest bagel I’ve ever gotten. Waited 20 minutes for a sandwich.
This morning I was referring by a friend to this location the lady she was working at the cashier she completely black my e energy to have it all she can even gave me a chance to chose what I want she rush me to get what I dont like to it I left the restaurant definitely I will never ever come back to this location I hated it never refer a friend Im glad sounding by plenty of good resturantUn happy first custemer
Always fantastic!Need to bear in mind that Sunday close to closing time, the selection is somewhat limited
Great Einsteins, plus its open later than most others
