After walking by a million times I finally went in and Im kicking myself for waiting so long! Well organized and a great selection with lots of signage to help navigate the close quarters and packed shelves. And all of the staff were very helpful

Fantastic book store. Jammed packed with options. But well organized. Lots of personal descriptions provided for books, staff picks really help. I loved the categories and flow of the store- like modern fiction or locally sourced reads. I could have spent quite a while longer here.

I love this bookshop in Lakeview! There are far too few brick and mortar shops these days so Unabridged is the perfect stop for all your book needs. Great selection and very friendly staff. Definitely check it out if youre in the area.

Have only gone once and enjoyed browsing! A lot of options and a great space to browse and explore. My only wish is that their website said what section to find a specific book you looked up, unless I am dense and missed where it says that on the website.

I really like the small and intimate space of this book store. We came here looking for books about Chicago for our nephew and with the help of I believe the book store owner we were able to find specific books that we had come in search of.I do think that the owner was a bit flustered when she arrived and noticed people (my husband and I) already waiting and the door for her to open, so she came off as being snippy when she asked my husband if he could step back from the door.Im not sure what that was about but other than that encounter she was beyond helpful and even came from the front of the store several time to the area we were located to locate books for us that we struggled to find. I love supporting small, local businesses and will definitely order from this store in the future for any other books that I may need.

Fell in love with this place the instant I walked in. Hand-written book descriptions and staff recommendations are a huge plus that add a personal touch to the shop. I could browse for hours, there is truly something there for everyone. They have a fantastic discounted book section as well.

Unabridged Bookstore is a quaint store that adds a large number of personalized staff comments to aid book browsers. The place is stuffed with a great variety of titles and has the feel of an old tiime traditional book store.

Such a vast collection for any and everything!! I wish I could have stayed longer and didnt every dime I had. They also have a lot of black literature here as well which I greatly appreciated. The staff was so nice and welcoming, such a quaint sanctuary.

Unabridged Bookstore used to be an essential part of any Lakeview shopping experience. Unfortunately standards of customer service have declined over the past few years. Especially bad are the phone manners. Just yesterday afternoon a woman answered the phone, and was rather sharp with me. I asked for a copy of Henry James The Portrait of a Lady and was told there were none. I then asked if one could be ordered and she quickly brushed me off with something about not available through their distributors warehouse... and that was that.I know the book trade, I worked in it for ten years during and for a short time after my college days. This is the customer service of someone who wants to go out of business, especially in these days of pandemics and Amazon. I dont expect perfection, and I know how hard these jobs are, but she could have offered me another title, and said sorry, which were standard customer service actions when I learned the trade.I guess Unabridged Bookstore wants me shop at Amazon. I just did. I just ordered the book I needed. A nice Penguin edition. No fuss, no rude manners on the phone..

Love this place! I The selection isn’t huge, but that’s what those big chain bookstores are for. Every book looks interesting and it’s clear the business has values. They also have these little handwritten notes from staff on books that they recommend, I think that’s very cute.

A cute bookshop with good staff recommendations and usually has the latest releases! A huge travel section. If you’re looking for anything specific it’s best to ask because of the way the store is laid out but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty easy to navigate. I don’t recommend going into this store looking for a specific book though. More of a place to explore on your own and stumble upon your new fave. :)

Awesome Lakeview bookstore thats been around for a while. They have a wide selection, a great downstairs travel section, and frequent speakers/events. Id recommend coming here to find new books that you werent looking for.

This bookstore is awesome! The shop itself, is massive. The staff is super helpful. The childrens book section has amazing choice, not just your Dr. Suess basics. They carry an array of inclusive (read LGBTQ, POC, Female, etc.) Non fiction and fiction literature and reading suggestions too. They even have a couple of book clubs. Ill definitely be back.

With the rise of eReaders its always nice to see actual brick and mortar bookstores still in existence. Unabridged Bookstore has an amazing selection of just about any book you could think of. It is beautifully organized, the staff are super friendly and helpful, and it has a very welcoming quality to it. Highly recommend for any book lover to visit!

Unabridged is one of my favorite bookstores in Chicago. Theres a wide selection of books available and the staff are very helpful with any questions.

Best bargain section in the city. There is a huge selection of books throughout the store, which makes quarters a little cramped, but everyone is aware and polite. They always have great music playing. The staff is very hands-off, but more than willing to help if you do have a question. Staff recs and themed tables lead to some real gems.

Really chill place with a great selection. Im a PKD fan and got caught up in a book with transcripts of interviews right before his death -- pretty cool, and something Id never seen in other stores.Dont sit down in that comfy leather sofa unless you want a really awful-looking cat climbing into your lap like hes your best friend. Very sweet animal but not winning any beauty awards =)

One of the few remaining true independent bookstores. It has not only weathered the era of Borders and Barnes & Noble, but it has even withstood against the mighty Amazon...and thrived! If they dont have what you need in their massive stock, theres nothing they cant get you if youre willing to wait a few days for it to be ordered.

Great book selection and friendly staff. Certain shelves contains staff recommendations, with some books getting a small, personalized description by a staff member. I really appreciate this service because it helps me expand my horizons on other books I otherwise wouldn’t think about getting. I’ll definitely be coming back soon.

This is a lovely bookstore and their selection is quite large. One of my go-tos in Chicago without question
