I am a novice when it comes to anything cigar. I was extremely satisfied with the help I received. I explained to the gentlemen that greeted me that I was a novice and I need a 80th birthday gift for a casual smoker. Not only did he explained some different brands and flavors but he helped me some accessories as well. They even gift wrap for free! While he was in the back gift wrapping my purchase his co-worker let me know they had used cigar boxes for only $3! I was lucky to find this place.

Just stopped in and Scott took excellent care of this newbie! He explained what he was showing me and made excellent recommendations. Can’t wait to try them when I get back to Ohio! Big thanks and I’ll be back!

I did not catch the individuals name that helped me today (8/14/2021). I brought in a table top lighter that was not operating that I wanted to get serviced. It is a family heirloom and I had no idea on where to take it. The gentleman that helped me told me that they do not service lighters but asked me if I had it with me. I showed him the lighter and he went online and found where I could a replacement of it. I had been searching for days online on how to get this lighter repaired and it took me one trip and 5 minutes to get the answer. Thank you!!

This is the place we always come to buy cigars, and we drive all the way from Milwaukee!! The staff, all of them, are so knowledgeable and patient and so so so helpful. I recommend this place a 100% the selección and the variety are superb to say the least.

This morning I stopped in to get my father-in- law some new cigars for his birthday and had the pleasure of being helped by Andrew. Andrew was phenomenal. He asked the right questions and truly listened to exactly what I was looking for even though I was a bit unsure. He even did a beautiful job wrapping them for me!! I gave them to my Father-in-law tonight and he is on cloud 9. Thank you, Andrew!! Im already planning my Christmas trip to Chicago and will definitely include this as a stop. Very much enjoyed visiting this shop while I was in town. Very nice selection of cigars and tons of accessories and humidors. The man working the counter was very helpful and knowledgeable and I was able to pick up a few nice sticks and burn one of them there.

I had the best time talking with the salesman named Phil. He knows his stuff and is very good with making sure I had the correct product for my particular taste. 10/10 will visit again. He also invited me to one of their events and it was really cool.

Me and my buddy described very specific cigar preferences and let the guy choose a stick for us.PRO-TIP: Right across the street is a liquor store — Galleria Liqueurs. They give a discount to Up Down Cigar store patrons... which you can then bring into Up Down! Up Down will even loan you some coffee mugs for your beverage. Great little outdoor seating area where you can burn a stick ... with heaters when it’s chilly!HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

There is no other place which would compare to Uptown Tobacco in Illinois and Chicago. Its always something going on during the week of tobacco tasting etc. Uptown Tobacco has been around for over 60 years plus and counting. This place is worth every pleasurable moment giving you a emporium of what cigars and tobacco is all about.

Going to Up Down Cigar, 1550 N Wells St, Chicago, IL 60610 will be a great experience that you soon wont forget. The staff know everything there is to know about the cigar industry and their offering in the shop. The loss of the founder Diana Silvius was a blow to the entire industry but certainly for Up Down Cigar which she founded many decades ago. I look forward to my next time in the shop as its always a great treat.

I do not know anything about cigars and I have to say, the men that work there were incredibly informative, kind, and really wanted me to enjoy the experience of buying my first cigar for a friend. I asked them if they had a gift bag or packaging and they gave me a nice Up Down Cigar mug with a bow on it--Gotta love the little things!

Okay its been awhile, I wanted to give this review a fair shake. I have been visiting this cigar store for about 8 years. The staff has always been accessable and friendly with amazing suggestion. First always a kind staff thats welcoming. Onto the selection of cigars. They have an extensive selection of cigars. The only brand(s) I dont see there are Espinosa and Matt booths. The lounge out back is fine outside smoke area. The inside lounge leaves a lot to be desired, not a lot of room and the counter isnt the most relaxing spot to smoke a stogie but it works. Going back to their selection if you cant find a cigar to smoke here you may need to reconsider what youre looking for in a quality cigar.

Up Down Cigar is an old town institution having kept its doors open for the past 50 years. With connections all across the cigar industry, there are few things you wont find that will make for a good smoke. From La Palina to Padron and Tatuaje, you wont even find any trouble finding some Opus X at Up Down. They bring in some of the biggest names in the cigar industry nearly every month and recently opened a back garden patio for outdoor smoking in the winter.Not the greatest place to have a cigar during winter, the retail space is a little cramped to bring five or six friends to go smoke. Overall the staff is knowledgeable and helpful and the shop has a lot of history and great selection.
