I have long wanted to try Georgian cuisine and finally saw this restaurant by chance. I liked everything, but we did not know that there are no alcoholic beverages in the restaurant and you can bring them with you. After we asked the waiter a second time if she was sure there was no alcohol :)) she suggested we go to whole foodsWhen we arrived at the entrance we were asked if we had booked, we did not reserve but at first glance it was not very crowded, so we were quickly seated, though at the very end of the hall. It was about 5 pm and maybe 4 tables were occupied, but when we were going to go almost all the tables were occupied.
The food was flavorful, rustic and filling. Fresh baked bread and hearty stews…. trust me get the lamb stew…. just do it, get the lamb stew. Entrees ranged from 20-30 bucks per plate and expect to order sides ala carte. There wasnt a dish we didnt enjoy and the venue was a cute and charming.Everyone was very kind, however to be fair it was faily empty and it took a while to get our check. Also there were only canned beverages, I would expect a restaurant like this to have a fountain. Also it’s currently BYOB until they get their liquor license.
This wonderful establishment sparked an obsession I was not even ready for! Georgian food is OUT OF THIS WORLD. I had the most personal experience with the owners and staff and it made me want to consume this food every day for the rest of my life. This is a picture of almost everything we ordered - and it was all amazing. This is it guys… the food you’ve literally been waiting for your whole life. This sounds over dramatic but for real I’m forever changed!
Great food! Excellent service! Was our first experience with Georgian food and waiter was very helpful and friendly. Definitely recommend friends to check it out! Very affordable and large portions.
A unique decor inside this place gives you a feeling of stepping outside Chicago for a moment. The food is fantastic, the vibe is great, and this is really worth checking out. I wasnt familiar with Georgian cuisine, but the flavors here are something special....almost Mediterranean mixed with eastern Europe. Try it!
This place is great! Atmosphere is very welcoming and chill and cool and the staff is also really friendly. But what I loved the most- the food! It was so delicious and flavorful, and the portion sizes were generous. The presentation was exquisite as well. If you are looking to treat yourself to an amazing meal. Try with your friends and family. I would like to come back here again.
This is now my favorite place to eat in Chicago. Incredible decor and music. The staff here are extremely courteous and friendly. Bring a bottle of wine and they will open it for you and provide glasses. Order a khachapuri to start and you will be thrilled. The mixture of butter, cheese and egg is complimented perfectly with the dough. I had lamb and my wife had chicken in garlic cream sauce. Either way you can’t go wrong here.
Rare Gem of Authentic Georgian cuisine in Chicago! My dining companions have been living in the U.S. for almost a year and were missing such dishes as khatchapuri. We discovered the Diplomat Cafe and were not disappointed. We visited in a Saturday afternoon and had the place to ourselves. The presentation of the dishes we ordered was perfect and tasted amazing. Very friendly and courteous staff. Interior of the restaurant is nicely decorated and comfortable. Unfortunately, I do not live nearby and would not be able to visit often. Only complaint I can make is that the menu pricing is a bit steep. Perhaps a lunch menu with lower prices would help attract customers during the day.
Having no prior experience with Georgian food beyond the baked goods, I cannot comment on the authenticity here. It seems like there is a mixed set of emotions on this subject, via other reviewers. In reading online, however, Ive realized that Georgia has an incredibly diverse culinary tradition for a country its size, so perhaps this has something to do with the mixed reactions? What I can say is that this food was unlike anything else Ive had. Similar in many ways, and often with familiar ingredients, but much more unique than I was expecting. The flavors were very bold, almost exhaustingly so, and the flavor combinations did not remind me of either Turkish or Russian cuisines, which I was expecting as major influences. We really appreciated the wealth of vegetarian options, and it seems the Georgian table is vegetable-forward overall. My only quibble was that the prices were indeed fairly steep, which prevented me from trying as many dishes as Id like, but the portions were generous and Id be surprised if much wasnt prepared in-house. Consider it the price of admission into a unique culinary world, and a tip of support for a very special local restaurant.
I have family connections to Georgia so my family knows a good deal about Georgian cuisine and when I brought them here they were all beyond pleased, as was I. Delicious, authentic food, with great options for vegetarians and vegans. Havent had such tasty compote since my grandmas. Check this place out, you wont be disappointed!
We loved this place so much! Tasty food and very polite staff! When we come to Chicago next time, well definitely go there again.
I had a great experience coming to this cafe, the employees where very kind and friendly. When we got there it was supposed to be close, but they kept it open for us to enjoy my friends birthday party. The food was amazing I’m sure we will be returning soon. Best of all we felt at home, everyone spoke Turkish and Russian had a great time. Highly recommended!
I think we ordered too much 🤔 but the food is very good.
The only Georgian (former Soviet Republic, rather than the Peachtree state) restaurant in Chicago, features some unusual but tasty dishes not offered anywhere else, a small sampling of what we tried: Chkmeruli, Georgian baked chicken w garlic cream sauce; Nigvziani Badrijani, eggplant stuffed with garlic walnut paste; Pkhali, chopped & minced eggplant, spinach, beets and leeks; Khinkali, Georgian style dumplings w mushrooms; and Tarragon flavored Georgian Lemonade. Lastly, its BYOB.
Delicious food and great service. Azerbaijani server was so friendly and polite. Thanks again. Appreciate it.
Warm, welcoming atmosphere and authentic food. Not the best place or cuisine for anyone with nut allergies, however.
Love Georgian food. The service was great and the food is really amazing. Place is clean with a nice modern international vibe.
Very professional stuff !!! Had really good time and enjoyed truly GEORGIAN 🇬🇪 food !!!100% Coming back
Delicious food, friendly staff and convinent parking! Try it and you won’t regret it!
Wonderful experience . Delicious food, authentic vibes .
Staff were very helpful and food was solid. A little pricey but good overall.
Nice place, good food. They dont sell alcohol but you can bring in yours.
Beautiful place, helpful staff, delicious food (very vegan friendly!), and a new culinary experience. I definitely recommend.
This place was wonderful, staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions you might have. We had multiple dishes but the ones that stood out to me were the Ajapsandali a vegetarian eggplant dish,Khinkali - which was a delicious heftier soup dumpling type dish, Ajaruli Khachapuri which is pictured below with the Georgian Lemonade Tarragon Flavor which was also excellent! All of the Georgian Lemonades were fantastic. I will be coming back again! :)
This place was absolutely delicious. Will come again.
Ate here pre-covid and food was delicious. Came back yesterday excited to eat and ordered a very generous amount of food but something changed. Everything but the khachapuri was bland, didn’t make us feel very good after, and waitress was rude throughout our experience. Disappointed in what used to be a delicious homemade tasting restaurant!
Lovely authentic Georgian cuisine in the heart of the city! 🇬🇪🇬🇪🇬🇪
Great food, friendly personnel!
The food is absolutely delicious and tastes like it was made with love. I highly recommend this place!
Great authentic food, I recommend the Ajaruli Xachapuri. Dont be afraid to try something new here. Pass on the kabob though, it tasted baked.
Almost amazing. Great, yes. I miss more walnuts and vegetarian variety of Georgian cuisine. Id still very much recommend it to anyone!
This place is definitely amazing. Foods are so delicious and server is best l had.Very clean, nice service and atmosphere has impressed us.I suggest people to come and once see and taste their fresh and health food.
Fun and different
Simply put - amazing. Extremely friendly staff, delicious and authentic food, beautiful atmosphere, very clean and roomy. One of the best food spots in Chicago, in my opinion. Definitely will come back again, multiple times! Cant describe enough how much I loved my experience here.
The dishes here were very authentic. The chakapuli (lamb stew) in particular was delicious. Service was fairly quick and our waitress was friendly and attentive. The only downside was that it was very loud. I couldnt even tell you if there was music playing or not because we couldnt hear it. Regardless, it was a wonderful meal and Ill definitely be back.
Delicious and made from scratch! Plenty of food for the price
Best chacapuri!
Our server was great and recommended some delicious wine to have with our dinner. The main dish are amazing, I highly recommended some delicious wine to have with our dinner. But an overall wonderful experience.
Fantastic! All of it! The service was superb. The food...was amazing! We got a collection of appetizers and smaller dishes and they were great. Everything is so tasty! Also BYOB...
It is very special, place for Georgian Cousin, tiny country in Caucasus Mountains. The food are highly tasty, but a bit spicy.Very nice service & good location at Lincoln Park of Chicago.
I picked my food up. The guy working the restaurant was nice and helpful. We ordered the Chicken Tabaka and the Imeruli Khachapuri. Both were amazing. I will be coming back.
Best home made Georgian cuisine! I liked EVERYTHING Ive tried here. Perfect for Take-out to serve authentic dinner at home for friends and family.
Nice place for authentic Geogian cuisine. Great food, good service
Excellent food, wonderful service AND GREAT FOOD. We were going to take a picture of the food but we ate it too quickly. Traditional Georgian staples with a nice not too loud atmosphere. Try any of their stews and leave room for the honey cake at the end!
Love this family restaurant! Worm atmosphere, so delicious food, excellent service! Highly recommend to visit!👍🏻
I celebrated my birthday in this cozy place and enjoyed it a lot. Everything was so delicious, service was very attentive and accommodating. I recommend this place if you want to enjoy Georgian food and just to have a good time.
Delicious Georgian food. Ive missed it for a while and finally found this gem! Georgian cucumber salad with walnuts doesnt sound too exciting, but one of the best things youll find. Period.
Great Georgian food. Very large plates of hinkali. Good service.Beware, its BYOB which is kind of unexpected from a Georgian restaurant.
First time here. Was great. Food was new and delicious. Service was good. Nice atmosphere. Worth it if you want to try something different.
If you like trying new cuisines youll definitely enjoy going here. Never had Georgian food but found it to be a unique blend of familiar flavors and new ones.
We absolutely loved it! The service was wonderful and the food was great! The best khachapuri Ive ever had. Their Turkish tea was awesome! We are definitely coming back! Tip: make a reservation if you decide to visit on a Friday or a Saturday night.
Sophisticated family run ethnic European delicacies restaurant. Friendly service and cozy atmosphere.
I enjoyed the Georgian beef kabob. Although the lamb meat of the other dish unfortunately was not fresh. The atmosphere is as though you are in an embassy of a foreign country.
Great Georgian food. Decent price. Will go back.
I visited this new Lakeview restaurant two weeks ago and I loved it! The breakfast was awesome! I also went there for the opening the first day and got a chance to try out multiple items from the evening menu. Incredible Mediterranean cuisine at a great price. Ill be going back for sure.
Turkish coffee is great. Be cautious with BYOB. We were charged for wine glasses even for our kids. The kids did not have wine! Gratuity is included with a party of 6 or more, but this will not be mentioned to you. So dont automatically leave a 20%tip as youll end up topping 40% for mediocre service. Tea is not free refills so if youre thirsty for more than 6oz if hot tea and ask for more youll be charged each time.
This Cafe is amazing! The food is delicious and authentic. Service is friendly and with a smile. And the ambiance - like youre sitting inside a Tbilisi cafe!
Excellent food. Was busy so slightly slow service. Excellent suggestions from the waiter regarding the unfamiliar (Georgian, Europe) menu. Wonderful decor. BYOB.
Everytime I eat here I like this place more. The food is great and the people are nice. I love having such an interesting restaurant in the neighborhood. A must try.
Great food and service. My first experience with Georgian food was a great one.
Very tasty food, friendly relaxing atmosphere, decent prices
The food is fresh and delicious! A lot of options too. I love it! The owner is super sweet too. I could eat here every day!
The Khachapuri was delicious but pricy compared to other places I’ve had it.The food was okay the potatoes were fried perfectly but unfortunately they were fried in oil that had not been changed in a long time making them smell of dirty oil.The atmosphere was beautiful and the staff was very friendly.
Best potatoes, lamb chops and eggplant dish.Yummy food and nice people. You wont be disappointed
Absolutely the best Georgian restaurant. Service and food deserve more than 5 star. Thank you guys :)
Overall was great. As Azerbaijanian me and wife like Georgian food very much especially Khingali which she has been craving for a while. Servant was very helpful and welcoming. Although Khingali was not as good as the ones we tried in Tbilisi but I think its because of meat in US. Honey cake was incredibly delicious, recommend to try. Thanks a lot for reminding us Caucasia
The Best Georgian Food in Chicago! The event have vegan options, everything is delicious! The service is amazing, beautiful place with beautiful music. Recomend to Everyone!!
Best Georgian food in Chicago! Some of the friendliest group of people and staff Ive ever met. Must place to chow down and fill your belly.
As Ukrainian, I love delicious Georgian food. I was very excited to find this cute Georgian restaurant in Lakeview. In my opinion Georgian food is one of the most tastiest in the history of the world’s famous cuisines. Every dish is so full of different flavors which will surprise and satisfy the most demanding pallets.I’ve ordered some meat khinkali filled with delicious broth. There is some trick to eat this dish without spilling the broth. I think the restaurant personnel can help to learn that little trick. Also, I get a chance to enjoy khachapuri with melted cheese and an egg . And it’s taste was very delightsome. Their pkhali were very rich in herbs and walnuts. The dish is eggplant and beets based. This place is BYOB and Georgian red wine is perfect choice for such a hearty food filled with Georgian sun and love. I think that some ethnic Georgian music would be great addition to underline the authenticity of this restaurant. The service was very attentive but I’ve came early afternoon and was an only customer over there to my big surprise. Don’t hesitate to give it a chance if you not familiar with Georgian good. The dinner can take a turn being a great gastronomic discovery and adventure.
Quaint spot, lovely service, food youve never heard of! I got the mushroom dish, it was garlicky and buttery and delicious
I would take any turkish restaurant over this place.
The best georgian dishes!!! If u taste u will never regret!!! Everything is so delicious 💞
The food here is delicious and authentic . Highly recommend
Great food.
I am Georgian and would highly NOT recommend this place. Food is horrible and does not taste nor look like Georgian food is supposed to. Khinkhali were exceptionalally terrible, tasted sour, and left us sick with food poisoning. Do not waste your money and health at this place!
