I love this place! Good for a quick bite if you want something reasonably priced, but they have banger cocktails so its also a great place to go for a boozy brunch. The staff is tenured so you can always expect to recognize a friendly face when you visit, especially Zoe! We love sitting in her section! Their fruit is always fresh and assorted, rarely is it just melon (ew). Waffle fries are also a must here.
One of the best brunchy diners I’ve been to in Chicago. Located a biscuit’s toss away from the Chicago blueline station, it’s convenient and easy to find. They’ve got indoor and outdoor seating, offering tables and booths near the window and in a side room. The service was friendly and responsive, menu was extensive, food came quickly, and price didn’t break the bank. I got veggie sausage and eggs, with a side of pancakes to split. My partner got chilaquiles that he raved about. It was a great brunch spot that well hit up again, for sure!
Very best corned beef hash. Loved it with their hollandaise sauce as an Eggs Benedict. Bloody Mary was good too.
Came inside, very quiet and quaint. Two ladies perked up ready to serve me. I asked if they did to-go coffees. She said we only have regular and iced drip coffee to go, and if I wanted fancier stuff like lattes, I could go to the local coffee shop across the street. I didnt eat here, but I wanted to write a review because of how thoughtful the staff was!
I have given this place too many chances. I work close by so I keep wishing Ill find something edible. Probably some of the worst Ive had.I have ordered many different things and I think the only thing I have enjoyed was the waffle fries. Its comical how bad the food is.Please order chicken tenders if you want a good laugh. If youre hungover. Do not order country fried steak... Its a flavorless rock with hints of dog food.
Ive been here three times - one of my favorite brunch spots to just have a nice meal outside with a friend because the food is always reliable, the service is amazing, and theres usually some decent people / puppy watching when my mind wanders. Edgar skillet is great (sorry, I couldnt help from digging in before I took a photo) and so is the huevos rancheros (especially if you add avocado).
Not sure what they do with their eggs but this was the best omelet I have had in many years. Absolutely perfect. Sitting on the patio on a sunny morning was perfect. Also the coffee hit the spot. A++++ would recommend this spot.
Great variety on their menu. They also had a nice outdoor seating area. Service was great! Even a little activity page and some crayons for our little one.
This was a great experience. The waitress was quick and efficient. When a mistake was made with one of our orders she was quick to rectify and even covered our mimosas as compensation. The other staff members were also kind and I will definitely come again.
Ordered pancakes for delivery and they arrived with no maple syrup or anything, just dry pancakes. When I tried to call them, nobody even answered the phone. Not sure what kind of breakfast doesnt have maple syrup, but I will never order from here again.
Love this place, probably the best non-chain diner in the city. They recently got a liquor license it seems, so Im excited to come back and try more brunch cocktails. Larger parties might take a little longer to seat, but 1 or 2 tops never seem to have to wait long in my experience.
Nice little spot. Got right in, service was quick, food was served quickly as well. Big portions. Waitress did a good job. Chios with sandwich were a bit stale. Overall nice little spot.
Very good place! Our server was super attentive and friendly, she kept our coffees full and had great recommendations about the menu. The food was fast, hot, and tasty. Well be back for sure.
Clean place, gracious people and beautifully tasty food food! Get the Breakfast salad, it’s delish! (Pro tip, you don’t even need the salad dressing, also... order toasted English muffin with it!)
Tasty food and great service!Sub gluten free bread at no extra charge 😍
The food was FANTASTIC. The place was crowded but handled it amazingly. Recommend to anyone.
Awesome breakfast! Highly recommend! The skillets were great and the country fried steak will leave you full and wobbling back to the car!
Ordered Breakfast to go, I had the Chorizo Benedict with potatoes as a side. It was ok, plenty of food but I probably have to eat in to truly experience the dish.Came back and had Lunch outside. Had the Kale salad and a Margarita.I LOVED the margarita!!! Savored it to the last drop, yummy. Kale salad was delicious, crisp and satisfying.Definitely will be returning. Next time I will share a photo.
My burger was absolutely delicious but the counter lady Diane H. was downright rude. She didnt acknowledge me at all when I approached the counter. In fact, she turned her back on me several times without asking if Id needed help. I finally asked her if the small bag on the counter was my order and she very discourteously, retorted; whats your name?I told her my name and she gratingly responds: then thats your order but turns her back to me again and starts pushing buttons on her queue board. Finally, she comes back to state the cost and take my payment. I hand her the credit card, she slams a receipt on the counter without saying a word and turns her back on me again.Im totally annoyed at this point but keep my calm and ask; Do you need me to sign this or... before I can finish my sentence she grunts; Yeah I need you to sign it. So I sign, take my bag. She never cracked even half a smile nor thanked me or anything of that nature. She wasnt paying any attention to me when I walked up and barely paid any while I was making my payment however, when I reach over to grab one the mints in front of the register shes stretching her neck to simply see how many mints Im going to grab.Totally unacceptable. Makes me not want to return or recommend this place to anyone.Appears to me they dont like or have respect for people of color and thats a shame.
I love their food! However, they take a little longer than youd expect. If they hired another cook, Id probably eat there at least three times a week! Overall, great experience! I hope they never leave the area!
Very nice and low key breakfast food place with extensive menu selection
Sat us quickly. Service good. Kids loved pancakes. My skirt steak and eggs was just ok. Ordered medium rare and got medium well. Eggs undercooked.
I have been going to the Windy City Cafe for about 5 years now. Dining in and take out. Excellent service and food every time. Local staple for great breakfast/brunch!
Great local breakfast spot right around the corner from our apartment. Plenty of parking around, Chicago Blue Line stop right out front, Milwaukee and Chicago Buses out front as well. These guys serve up delicious breakfast delights, and serve Big Shoulders coffee roasts. The FOH staff members are as delightful as their amazing pancakes!
An ABSOLUTE must try if you are in the beautiful Windy City (CHICAGO) and craving some classic American Cafe breakfast!
Convenient location in the West Side near the Blue line. Favorite place for customizable omelettes and breakfast burritos.
Excellent service!!! Excellent food! Everybody in our party loved it & one of them went back within 3 says!!
The food was excellent, the staff friendly and helpful. Loved the French toast.
Do not visit when they are getting ready to close. Eggshells in my scrambled eggs and cold potatoes. And I seem to have irritated the server. The owner and host was very gracious so I will try again, but no time soon.
Absolutely a gem of a restaurant! Theyre very good with following proper COVID restrictions. The chicken fried steak was to die for, and the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, especially Brooke! Will definitely be coming back in the future. Could not have asked for a better dining experience.
This place is overhyped for no reason. I got The Hangover thinking it would be delicious, but it was bland and the potatoes were dirty. Im not sure if they were rinsed at all. Portion was large though
I love this place. Food is incredibly good. It is not a cheap greasy spoon. It is high quality. It is not cheap but definitely get what you pay for here.
Food was delivered to the wrong address. The driver refused to admit it was incorrectly delivered until forced to put the door person on the phone. Ended up having to cancel the order and get a refund an hr and a half later.1 star isnt for the mistake, mistakes happen, it is because instead of just admitting the mistake and helping to resolve it, an hr had to be wasted debating whether or not I know where I live and where food is delivered there.
Terrible experience. Service was slow and rude. Food was nearly unbearable. Save your money. Don’t waste your time at this place.
Great breakfast cafe! Everything is fresh and they serve Broad Shoulders Coffee which is my favorite! Love the fast service. My favorite place to take visitors.
The food is always so good and fresh. Really reasonable prices and the portions are nicely-sized. I dont know how you guys do it, but keep up the good work!
Server Valarie is outstanding. Great food fast service. Great atmosphere.
Divine! Food is so tasty, prices reasonable and great 7$ cocktails. Service also very fast and welcoming.
Always great food and service. Staff is awesome and friendly. Highly recommend for breakfast and lunch!
Placed a doordash order for breakfast.Got a message over 40 minutes later that my order was cancelled because they were unable to process the order even after they had confirmed the order.Thats great to know at almost 1030 when breakfast is now over almost everywhere. An absolute joke of a restaurant obviously being run by people with mental deficiencies.
I have been to this place many times always having a great experience. The staff is very friendly & attentive. The quality of food is always top knotch as well as generous portion sizes. They have a small outdoor area that is great for business brunches!
Delicious food and stellar views of downtown. Our new favorite breakfast spot.
Great food, music, and just general aesthetic. 10/10 service
A hidden gem....great food!
Horrible. Worst dining experience I’ve had in a while. Food took way too long, it was all lukewarm, tough, and bad. Majority of the party members felt nauseous after. Met with a hostile greeting upon entering. Not sure if it was because the place is inherently incompetent or because they didn’t like us for whatever reason, though I’m leaning towards incompetence. We just popped in looking for a simple breakfast, nothing astounding, but even that fell flat.Bacon was uncooked, the fruit was rotting and brown, the pancakes were tough with splatters of batter, the eggs were tasteless, the sausage tasted very odd. It’s kind of amazing how it was all so bad, which made us wonder if it was intentional.Would’ve been better off if they just never served us and we ended up walking out. Would’ve saved money and been spared the food. No clue why there are so many good reviews for this. We’re black, if that factored in at all.
Location was very convenient for parking and public transportation. The food was very good, ordered the chicken. Portion size was well served, I had some fir dinner that night. Staff was very courteous.
Is really good, if you are on vacations like me, I recommend to call before so you can do a reservation. Really good food and quality, nice customer service and really cute place with great music.
Awesome chilaquiles and friendly, fast service at this local diner/ breakfast spot in Chicago. Highly recommend this local gem!
Tasty kinda slow
Food was pretty good. Portion size was satisfying. I got the salad and buddies got the omelets, which looked large. Price, you really can’t beat it. 4 stars, service was 2.5.
Best breakfast place in the city, period. Kind of a weird location, but if you can make it there - its worth it 100%. I was lucky enough to work in this neighborhood for a couple years, and we made it a priority to eat here for breakfast or lunch at least twice a month.
Great food, great service
Its good
I really enjoy the Buffalo Chicken Salad here. The service is good and they also have Baker Miller Oats here, which my husband liked when he ordered it today. The menu is fairly extensive and the choice to of what to order is a difficult one with lots of viable options. Ive only gone a couple of times and have only ordered the salad but it was good enough to return and order it again. I would definitely go back to order more items from the menu. It wasnt too loud or crowded and thats worth plenty in my book.
Ordered a breakfast croissant with egg, cheese and bacon to go, hard to screw that up. It came with a huge side of potatoes! Excellent! I also ordered a kids fresh fruit pancake.... best I’ve ever had at a restaurant! Fresh squeezed OJ, so good! Overall really great experience, would come back & recommend. Love the vibe for dine in as well!
Our favorite brunch spot! Always ready. Always delicious. Great for friends, families, and couples. Good with kids but not annoying if you dont have kids. Pancakes are awesome. Always leave stuffed. Team is really nice as well. Gets packed on weekend so be ready but still they are fast
Been going here for the last few months one day each week and its always excellent service from every single employee. Great prices too. Very accommodating and attentive wait staff every time. Had a great service by Brandon. Highly reccomend.
This is a diner, so the food is what it is. The special decor and cleanliness would make you think youre going to get something a bit more special, but its not like that. So I had to adjust my expectations when I first went here. The service is always friendly, and now that Ive read the reviews, I should try the coffee next time. What I find misleading is what are really toasted sandwiches that they call panini. Panini are supposed to be pressed down. But my food was fine.
This is my favorite local restaurant in my neighborhood. Nice ambiance, great selection of high quality teas, delicious food. The scrambled eggs are the best Ive ever had. Have good jelly by Dickinsons for the toast, I recommend the sourdough. Malted Belgian waffle is light and delicious. Grits have a hint of vanilla to the flavor. Good fruit, good house potatoes. I enjoy coming early on the weekend before it gets crowded.
A little wait food was delicious. I had so much I had to take home leftovers. A little pricey, but worth it.
Ive had breakfast over the course of 3years and they have been consistent every time. I had their skillets. Always tasty and sizzling they could change the Chorizo they use to something more authentic. Always have fresh fruit. Juicy burgers and their oatmeal is always on point
Always good food and service.
Great place to eat at breakfast, lunch and dinner the workers are really nice my favorite is the chicken salad....
One of the best breakfast and lunch places in the area. Excellent food, nice portions, friendly staff from the moment you walk in the door. The hostess is friendly and very nice and polite She made our wait for a table very pleasant. The place was packed. Anyone who says anything negative about this place is off their rocker and doesn’t know what they’re talking about. There’s nowhere else I’d rather go for a weekend breakfast.
Marvelous menu, large portions and the best staff around! We were visiting our grandson that took us to his favorite breakfast spot. We can see why he likes this restaurant. The omelettes, breakfast burrito, and pancakes are excellent, as is the coffee. Well be back when we visit again.
Love the diner feel of this place. The cafe draws a lot of regulars. The omelets are massive and delicious. Sandwiches and wraps are good as well. The food here is a bit overpriced, but is decent quality.
FANTASTIC food, great drinks, the portions are huge, and they have great music! One person in our group said; “ I want to know how they found an avocado the perfect ripeness! It’s not too hard, not too mushy. Do you know how impossible that is?” So if you’re into avocados, apparently this is your place !
Delicious brunch great service
Very slow service waiting for more than 30 min at the restaurant to pickup my order was places online at home and the were slow only 2 table never back there. Iam not paying to waste my time .this is unprofessional
The host staff was very friendly and accommodating, even bringing extra napkins to our table to help us cool off, as it was a warm and humid day. The service staff was friendly and engaging. The only issue was that there were a couple of forgotten requests, and it seemed like the food came out later than the tables around us. However, when it did come, the food was very good.
Wow really nice place. Adam was our server and he was very professional yet very personable. Food was great and fresh. Not often do you find a place that has such a great atmosphere with good music in a breakfast cafe. Good clean place and would highly recommend this cafe!
Great food, great ambiance, friendly service. But their new prices are absurd. I probably wont be coming back any time soon. I got a buffalo chicken wrap and a glass of water and it ended up being $15, then with a reasonable tip for the good service it was $18. For a wrap which was good, but not gourmet or life changing.I hope they re-evaluate the new prices because I really do like this spot but until then this is going to be an infrequent stop for me at best.
The staff and servers are so warm and welcoming, the service was great, and their pancake servings are huge. Well worth every dollar!!! I highly recommend their hot apple cider too.
Decent prices, good service, and good food. Thats all I want from a diner experience and this place has it. Recommended if youre looking for a nice diner spot.
Great food, fair prices. I need to update this a bit..... Oct. 10, 2017 The prices have gone up. $11.50 for a burger and $1 for every topping, even onion. I ordered a patty melt so basically a burger with onions and cheese.... $13.50. The food and service are wonderful but it is expensive.
Very good food, service and large portions.
