The quality of the food is very high, the price is commensurate. They are open too late to be a coffee/breakfast option during the week and closed too early for a person who works a 9-5pm. This forces the majority of people who pay their bills to wait in an endless line on Saturday and Sunday creating artificial rarity completing the loop. During covid, maybe not the coolest move. They may have excuses but Dinkles on Lincoln does it for real at the same level of quality and beyond.

Great Bakery/Diner/Soda shop! Amazing Retro decor, was transported back to 1950s. Had Thai Egg Float and Beet Reuben with a slice of Hibiscus Key Lime pie to go. Float was rich and decadent. The bread of the reuben was amazing! The pie sort of melted (left in car for a couple hours) but was still delicious after a short trip to the freezer.

This review is only for their pies — I haven’t had any of their other items (but hope to be back soon to try!)I was struggling to find a place to do a birthday “cake” for people who don’t like cake, and decided to pick up two pies here on my partner’s recommendation. Though the key lime hibiscus pie with blueberry compote was his favorite (and it was delicious but a little too tart for my personal taste), I absolutely loved their cranberry spruce cheesecake that was rotating through. (I was so sad when I stopped by shortly after that first visit to see they were no longer there!) Absolutely delicious, aromatic, inventive, and unforgettable. I thought it might have been weird to have a pine-y flavor/scent, but the spruce oil/infusion worked so well in combination with the tart cranberry and creamy cheesecake body. The crust was fantastically done too.Cannot recommend Spinning J highly enough, and they were the perfect non-cakes for birthdays! Wish I could stop by on the regular!

I was recently introduced to Spinning J a few weeks ago and it’s honestly all I’ve thought about since and I’ve gone back three times. I may have a problem. The location is darling, the food is unbelievable (particularly the pie) and staff is lovely. Pictured below are their classic breakfast sandwiches, a cinnamon roll, key lime hibiscus pie and S’mores pie. A must try!!!

Spinning J crushed my dreams today. I was confident after years of practice and adjustments, that I had mastered the art of the perfect tuna melt...and then I tried theirs. From the grilled homemade bread, to the brilliant inclusion of slightly sweet red onions, I had to accept the fact that these guys had me beat. On the plus side I have a new favorite lunch spot on the west side. Terrific bakery, delicious coffee, cozy dining room and friendly staff, absolutely hands down a 5 star destination for a meal or snack.

Captures the essence of the soda fountain era where life seemed much simpler. Good balanced flavors in the savory foods. The toasted homemade rye and sourdough breads that the sandwiches were on extra toasted crisp (almost crouton like) bread. The soda drinks (I had the passion fruit palmer) and desserts (I had the yuzu cranberry meringue) were tooth achingly sweet. Delicious but too sweet for my taste.

This place is a gem. You walk in and feel taken back to the 1940s, and order up at the counter. The prices are very reasonable (soda, salad and pizza for $10 was the special when we went). The pizza and pies were absolutely amazing. The smores pie was my favorite of the savories, and as for the sodas, they were all so good I couldnt even pick. Our table got grape, lemon, ginger, and Thai tea egg cream. I loved the glasses they came in and that the sodas were not too sweet. It felt like such an event going here! The salad was perfectly dressed and very fresh. The owners are the absolute sweetest. Would recommend, and will definitely be back!

My whole life I alway heard about how incredible my grandmother’s baking was, especially her pie crusts. Being the youngest grandchild I never got to experience it because she wasn’t able to bake as much by the time I came around. I brought home a pie for my dad’s birthday over the summer (strawberry rhubarb) and I have never heard my dad ever say that something compares to my grandmother’s crust. Thank you for giving me an experience that I have alway wanted and most importantly for bringing my dad some joy!

Delicious food here! The hardest part is deciding what to eat. Then try to save room for pie. The bread is phenomenal. Enjoyed the whole experience of diner style with great flavorful food.I had the tuna melt, which was perfect with the white cheddar and I recommend putting some bacon on it, cause why not? My fiance had the ham and gruyere, which I typically dont like gruyere, but it paired well with the apricot spread and rye bread. Gave it an umami flavor. Really wanted to try the chicken pot pie but they were out. The strawberry rhubarb soda was really refreshing, wish it was a little colder. The pie flavors were unique and glad I tried the smores one and also the key lime hibiscus.Highly recommended for a casual breakfast or lunch and will definitely got back to try everything I didnt get.

Let me tell you how good this bakery is: we live nearby, and my boyfriend had been complaining about his commute to work nonstop and wanting to move soon to be closer to the highway. We discovered this bakery and are obsessed with everything on the menu. A few weeks later, after not hearing him complain but me wanting to be supportive, I said: let’s make a timeline to move. Spinning J has a cozy neighborhood feel. That was nice. However, the food I had was just ok, and very over priced for portions. The tuna melt I ate was decent. I liked the bread a lot, but the sandwich could of used more cheese. Also, it was a bit of a let down that the sandwich came with a 1oz bag of store bought Vitners chips. My total meal came to $18--I felt, love em or leave em, the sandwich should have at least come with house made chips for the price. The key lime hibiscus pie I had was not as good as I had hoped. I expected a creamy baked custard style pie, but it was more like a whipped cream ice box pie. I will say though the pies graham cracker was a bright spot in my dessert. It was crisp, buttery and not too sugary sweet. That part of the pie was well done. Overall, I will have to think hard about going back to Spinning J.

Spinning J is cool. While the menu for non-sweets is limited, the offerings are carefully prepared with fresh ingredients and complex yet tasty flavors. Tiny spot with a hipster vibe. Ordered a chicken pot pie and hibiscus key lime pie with blueberry compote. Both were delicious although the chicken pot pie wasnt as flaky as I prefer. The key lime was light refreshing with a mellowed tartness that I appreciated. Seating is miniscule and people were definitely not mindful of the signs saying dont linger, which could be annoying if we hadnt eventually gotten a booth. Also wasnt impressed by the fact that they added whip cream to the pie automatically and charged me for it. Despite its drawbacks, Id recommend for its comfort food.

The cafe takes great care in turning out high quality products, from the biscuits and jam to the breakfast sandwiches and pies. Like many places in the area, there is a cool hipster indifference to some of the staff but in general this is a fantastic place that is worth a visit whether you are local to the neighborhood or have to travel. Not suitable for groups larger than 4. Ideal for small plates and quick, yet delicious meals.
