The Chopping Block has always provided an amazing culinary experience, and the Macaron Class with Erin was no exception! The ease of instruction, obvious preparedness, details for safety, and being able to do all that in a professional and extraordinarily fun atmosphere seems impossible...but Chef Erin and, her able assistant Carla, pulled it off without a hitch!! I look forward to taking more classes very soon!

We had received a gift card from our daughter and son-in-law for the Chopping Block, as they had previously attended a cooking event and greatly enjoyed it. The event my husband and I attended was for an outdoor grilling demonstration. Max was our chef, and he was informative, intuitive and an obvious master at the grill. After the demonstration, we enjoyed the fruits of his labor. Our meal consisted of a steak served with roasted fingerling potatoes, green beans and a peach/blueberry crumble for dessert. My husband is an avid grillmaster, yet we still learned so much about utensils, ingredients, wine pairing and more. What a great time we had, and the food was just marvelous. I highly recommend this crew for a delightful evening out. Everyone was helpful, attentive and ready to assist. Great customer service and a delicious meal in the end.

I just completed the week-long Culinary Boot Camp 1 & it was great! Im a pretty good home cook & learned many new skills, recipes & insider tips from culinary professionals. Even tho it was a group class, there was so much guidance from Chefs that it felt like a private lesson. The Chopping Blocks team was totally supportive & encouraging. Dont worry about grocery shopping for home; theres plenty to eat during class & plenty of dishes to take home. I recommend it for home cooks of all skill levels!

I took the Virtual Knife Skills class Wednesday night. I was given new, very nice sharp knives for Christmas, with the suggestion that I should take the knife skills class from The Chopping Block. Funny aside, we gave our son-in-law this in-person class 10 years ago, when they had first moved to Chicago. He liked it so much, he gave it to our daughter. I have been impressed with their ease in the kitchen and use of knives, but had no idea what I was missing by NOT knowing how to use the various knives effectively and safely. The chef was so kind, offering tips as she watched me attempt to do what she had demonstrated to us. She answered all of our questions with grace, never making me feel like I should know the answers or have had more experience than this. I enjoyed learning and then using the knew skills so much, I look forward to taking other classes, both virtually and in -person when I visit our family in Chicago. Thank you so much! I highly recommend this class! Donna Moores

My wife and I had an exceptional experience in the Cacio e Pepe virtual class! Chef/Owner Shelley Young, who taught the class, was engaging and informative and friendly. She moved things along at a nice, leisurely pace. We were able to keep up just fine. (We bought the cook-along option.) The food was delicious! We are already planning to have the pasta and the salad again in the near future. (The dessert, a ricotta fritter, was heavenly but we try not to eat too much fried food. Wed make it again; perhaps for a special occasion.) At any rate, we very much recommend The Chopping Block! Weve also had very positive experiences (pre-pandemic) with their in-person classes. The moderator and the chef were both very helpful and knowledgeable. I was also very impressed by the set up they had for the virtual class: multiple camera angles for the cutting board vs. the stove vs. the chef and seamlessly switching between them all so we knew exactly what we were supposed to be doing at any given moment. We also really loved having the ability to keep social distancing in mind and participate from home. I just finished the 5-day Cooking Bootcamp 2 and it was a great experience. Four years ago I enrolled in Cooking Bootcamp 1 and started to learn how to cook (it only took me 44 years to get started). It was a great experience and I learned a lot. After that original bootcamp, I felt comfortable trying to cook most recipes. Bootcamp 2 introduced me to some new areas of cooking (e.g., pasta and baking) and helped to inspire me to continue exploring the wide world of cooking.I am a big fan of the Chopping Blocks classes and I highly recommend anyone considering ways to improve their cooking knowledge to take a class. The bootcamp classes are hands on, so you make every dish, under the guidance of an actual chef. All of my questions were answered, and recipes were explained so that I understood why we did certain steps, not just how to do them.I highly recommend you give them try.

I learned nothing.1 star off because price/policy. I feel $90 was a majorly overpriced ripoff. To be honest, I paid $110 because I had signed up for a more meat heavy class but due to a family emergency I was unable to attend. So they let me switch into this one. While I feel lucky after reading reviews that they improved their customer service to even let me switch... The first class we took here was a pasta class. My husband and I selected it because we wanted to take hands-on courses so we could learn elements of the craft of cooking rather than just learn to replicate recipes. We went with a friend and all of us enthusiastically LOVED the pasta course. The instructors were helpful and informative, and I left feeling completely capable of making pasta at home (and have done so several times since with great results).Excited by the first experience, we decided to take their Meat 101 class, again hoping to learn more of the technique for cooking meat, selecting meat, and better understanding the craft behind different treatments of meat in the kitchen. What a disappointment! The chef in charge gave us no feedback of value and seemed irritated when we asked questions to clarify. The recipes, although delicious, were already more than half prepared for us. I left with a few good recipes but no new knowledge. It is too expensive to be unsure of the quality. I hope the chopping block works on improving the quality of its hands-on courses.
