Business STOLE my bike. June 2019 I dropped off my vintage Velo Solex moped to get running, and subsequently provided other spare parts. This was met with little to know follow up communication despite my many attempts to get an update on the job. Countless calls and emails dodged, but before I knew it - the place had shut down (not that they had called to tell me!).I cant believe a crooked business like this could exist, but dont be fooled - they are not with good standing with the BBB. 0/10 would recommend.
I was a previous mechanic at the shop. Things are overpriced and underperforming. Its a good place to pick up parts but I would not go there to service your bike. You will buy a bike for $500 from a garage sale and pay the shop $2,000 to get it running.
Ive known Will at MOPED for years and hes always someone you can count on for a smile and a handshake when you pop-into the store. They have a great collection of mopeds for sale, a great curated collection of gear, and they do great service. My new gearing works great, and powdercoated mag wheels look amazing! I tell everyone to just go to MOPED.
Of all my experiences dealing with business to business transactions this was the most insulting, rude and miserable experience of my life. Will hired us to polish his floor at a new location. After changing his mind countless times he proceeded to belittle our supplier and our experience. I wouldn’t do business of any type with this business. In addition due to covid-19 CPD told us to stop working and go home otherwise we would be fined. Will the owner didn’t seem to care. He also doesn’t care about social distancing ...If you need something fixed there are a variety of locations to take your moped too.
Unless you know how to work on these yourself, a moped is not a wise/reliable investment in this city. Not many people are willing to work on them let alone available when you break down. Also craigslist is much cheaper than this place and this place will nickel and dime you if they can . Every interaction I had there seemed shady.
MOPED is awesome!!! The owner, Will, is super helpful, knowledgeable, honest, and went above and beyond. As a beginner, I had a lot of questions and he took time to make sure I had all the answers I needed. Highly recommend!!!
Will is a very easy person to work with. Hes very well informed about all things moped and is willing to share his insight. A great person to talk with if youre new to this whole world. His shop is usually busy and the backlog seems to get pretty long sometimes so if you need to get something done quickly, be up front with your needs or be ready to wait a bit. Great shop
Im a first timer to the shop and needed a carburetor solution. Will took 30 min+ working to help provide a solution. Im hoping it all works out and thankful for the time MOPED spent trouble shooting with me.
Bought a moped from here expecting it to be a good running bike. The first ride I took it on the engine died and failed to start. They “fixed” it and in a few weeks the same problem happened. In a course of 2 months I was left stranded over 5 times. Every time I brought the moped back they did some tweaks to the bike that never fixed the problem. I was optimistic about it until the warranty ended and I was forced to pay $40 for them to tell me I was low on gas, which was not the case. It broke down less than 20 miles after that and I took it back and wanted my money back. This was not store policy and I had to settle for a $600 loss. If you want a moped go on Craigslist and learn to fix it. It’ll save you over $1,000, many hours, and you probably won’t be stranded on the road.
Can’t recommend enough. First off, getting a moped is life altering; do yourself the favor. Once you decide to do that, go here! The service is unreal; they stayed super late for me to get my moped work done, very cool of them. The people are super knowledgeable and helpful. All around awesome experience. And they have a pretty awesome selection. Do it, do it.
Only moped dealer and parts seller in the city! Need something fast, then is the place for you! Also will tell you what you need to get your moped running or running faster!
Best passion when I was searching for a moped to drive. Literal love, and passion for the work. I have come for question and they have helped everytime. Helping me feel more comfortable with every ride.
I have tried really hard to like this store. Will is a great guy and means well, but there are a lot of things that fall short. My biggest disappointment with the shop is that business hours are super unreliable. Since first coming to the store in 2014, and coming during posted business hours, 3/4 of the time I will show up to a closed shop. Sometimes Id travel an hour or more to purchase a part or browse the selection of bikes with the intent of purchasing something only to have to go back home. I dont feel like I should have to call ahead to ask if the store is open or not; if there are posted hours, follow them. A few weeks ago an art festival was going on in Logan Square. I thought nothing of it until I got to the shop during hours they were supposed to be open to just find through a 8.5x11 paper on their window that they were closed and instead displaying bikes and merchandise at the art fair. That would be acceptable if there was some sort of update on social media in the days following, which the shop has multiple accounts on different platforms, but that didnt happen. As stated by other reviews, most of the bikes sold here are bill of sale only. Most first time moped owners will think nothing of it, but understand a bill of sale is not enough in Illinois to ride legally; Will even promised to my face in closing a sale that he would get me registration paperwork from Michigan to properly title and register the bike. I went through the bonded title process for the bike, which took two months with the state of Illinois and several hundred dollars to get a title for the bike. I went back to the shop to buy some parts for the bike after titling it, and first thing Will says to me is that he still hadnt started working on my paperwork. At that point it didnt matter, I legally had proof I owned it through a bonded title and I had it plated and insured. Just be cautious and dont buy a bike here until you see the title with your own eyes, unless you want trouble with the cops when driving without plates, or plates that arent registered to your vehicle. All in all, a very mixed bag. If you absolutely need to get a part last minute MOPED could very well let you down. Go here to look at bikes if you want, dont be disappointed if its closed.
Will is awesome. Orders parts and works on you Moped. Will will also give you advice and its helped me a lot.
Great service! I had an old Vespa from the 1970s that was sitting my garage and hadnt been started in about 30 years. I brought it to MOPED and they fixed it all up and got it running. Definelty recommend very good customer service!
I visited a few months ago and they were very friendly. Now Im here to buy something and theyre not open during their posted hours. So...
Nice selection of new AMD vintage bikes.
Great customer service from front and back of the house. They set me up with everything I needed and went the extra mile to clean some forks I bought.
Best place for all of your moped needs! Parts, services, mopeds, and great community.
My scooter (not moped, have learned the difference..lol) broke down and these guys came to the rescue...they were fast and friendly and if anyone is looking to get a moped, I highly recommend these guys. They know their stuff and stand behind their work.
Went here a few weeks back and bought a Bell Moto 3 helmet, sz XL. Some notes: Im completely new to motorcycling, I dont (didnt) really know what I was doing, I had all the expectation in the world to go here and have my questions and concerns attended to.In short, I should have lowered my expectations, considerably. As I attempted to find the right size, I tried on a LG and an XL. The associate in the store was less than helpful, offering little to no advice or suggestions. He did not check to see if I had the right size, did not ask me any questions, did not check on me to see if I was doing the right thing, etc. Customer service was severely lacking/non-existent. In a super beginner/super inexperienced/super noob way, ended up purchasing the complete wrong size for my head (XL). The only positive, he was able to price match after showing proof of the helmet being offered at a significantly lower price than what it was priced in the store (at least 75% less). He was able to accommodate the lower price and the special order. Upon receiving the helmet and wearing it around the apartment for a few minutes, I came to realize it was significantly oversized for my head shape/size - and a severe safety concern. I called MOPED, and with receipt and unused helmet in hand, wanted to talk about a potential refund/return/exchange. I was told that I tried it on and I made the decision to buy it and that it was special order and that he didnt want to take a helmet back that he might not be able to sell. I was given no option and no recourse, whatsoever. So now the helmet sits in my apartment, in a box, unused, and perfectly new. I will say to anyone considering MOPED, please take heed of the old adage - buyer beware. Do your research, come knowing what you want, do not depend on their sales associates, and dont expect anything other than uninterested indifference. I would not recommend MOPED to anybody, and will steer anyone considering this shop, away from it. Far away from it. Save your cash, do your research, buy online or at Motoworks Chicago - where there are true professionals concerned about your safety and your happiness. Good luck.
Nice guys. They have a true love for mopeds.
Cool dudes, very fair and knowledgeable on motor scooters, mopeds, and more
The owner Will is always friendly, greets me with a smile, and provides exceptional advice + parts for my vintage moped hobby. I visit whenever I am in Chicago, and will always return!
Immaculate shop, with a moped to meet your need
Great experience every time you walk in the store. Will always takes care of you
Go see Will ad enjoy moped
Great place great people love mopeds for life
Shady, I bought my bike in September 2018 and the owner didnt want to give me my registration (its currently May 2019). He said he was going to get it eventually but no dice. He told me that people rarely get stopped with their moped but Ive been stopped by the police twice. This business is not legitimate and Im taking them to small claims court.
They made a chain tensioner bolt out of an ordinary bolt on the spot. It is better than an OEM part and half the price.
Got some gear here. Cool guys, good prices
Cool dudes. Good shop.
Sold my buddy a 700$ moped for 3500$ i get retail pricing but that was price gouging.
Super rad!
Prices are high
Cool displays
