Hasn’t read the reviews before I went into the store and after a very rude encounter with the owner I went on here to see if people had the same issues. Seems like almost everyone does. Won’t be going back.
I’ve been going to this antique shop for many years now on our trips to Ohio from Maryland. Yesterday we went in greeted by owner as usual.Walked around checking out the goodies and then the owner comes and yells at a customer for hanging items while she looks at other items. Not even a “hey ma’am are these yours, would you like me to take them to the counter and have them ready” she got a “I DON’T KNOW WHY CUSTOMERS JUST HANG THINGS EVERYWHERE” The young lady replied those are mine and I’m buying them. To which he responded “Well you still can’t do that” I was surprised the lady didn’t say keep it and walk out.Last when we was on our way out my husbands grandmother went over to explain to the young lady working that she didn’t want the earrings she had asked them to hold. She pulled her mask out a hair (which we all know by now that’s a no no but she did) to tell the young lady she didn’t want the earrings and the owner yelled “MASK UP” Which was not needed. A simple please keep mask up would have been sufficient.Very dissatisfied with his actions of the man and for now on our 4 hour road trip will no longer add this location to one of the stops.I think the owner needs to take a course in customer service.
Like never before! This shop has an incredible selection of rare goods that are organized. The prices are reasonable! The owner is charming and very helpful, which makes for an enjoyable experience.
I really like this place. I have gotten a lot of cute vintage here. The owner does not do discounts, dont even ask, no matter how much you are buying. The owner can be rude or he can be friendly, just depends on what day you catch him. This is a vintage store; its not a thrift store or used clothing store. Expect vintage prices. Some things are overpriced in my opinion, but a lot of stuff is very fair for what it is. This place has some pretty amazing pieces so if you want show stopper vintage, its here. The aisles are pretty tight and it is a bit crowded. All eras are represented, but Id say the bulk is 60s/70s.
It was cute and there were a lot of good options, just very full of stuff, I could barely look at any of the dresses because it was so full
Fun! Nostalgic and so much inventory. I could spend hours here finding treasures.
Male worker was rude and pretentious as always but I was able to find some new decor for my house to match the kitschy colors I had painted it. Never understood why the worker is always in a bad mood
Fun shop but sooo much clutter and junk. It’s be a lot easier to find things if there wasn’t so much of it. We did find some old records there and they were reasonably priced.
Make sure you give yourself hours and hours for this trove of treasures. Every decade is amply represented in all aspects of style. Get lost in the past here. And enjoy yourself while doing it.
Cool store to look around and browse vintage treasures but so overpriced! I think this is this guys personal collection and he really doesnt want to sell anything. The store is jammed packed, you would think hed want to sell some of his merchandise. Theres no reason to go back, ridiculously overpriced!
What a fun store! Didnt have enough time to see it all, but so great to step back in time to my youth!
Only called this place and was rudly handled by whoever answered the phone. Before I could ask my second question he was hanging up the phone. Sorry pal your inept ability to have a conversation just may have cost you more than you can afford to lose. Ill certainly shop elsewhere. Have a good day!
The merchandise is usually of high quality and the selection is really diverse . mostly mid century but maximum variety . the staff is friendly enough and seems to know what theyre talking about when approached with questions . except the owner fella who is rude and knows nothing . . the store has that nice vintage odor which is a mandatory feature of any quality vintage store .The prices are the only possible complaint .These are gentrified hipster prices . for those trust fund kids who brag about spending $100 on a $60 item instead of bragging about spending $20 on a $60 item .If youre hoity toity and need that instant gratification shopping - this is where you need to shop in Cleveland for retro paraphernalia .Otherwise you might want to seek cheaper options cause this definitely isnt thrift .
The man was very rude.I do antiquing all over the country and this guy was absolutely ridiculous rude I was looking for pocket watches and gold filled stuff and he was just absolutely mean
Went in to this shop and was such a fun place. My daughter loved at the old fashions and even left with some clothes and purses.
Great selection of antiques and collectibles great place owner knows his business !!!.
Cool stuff but its a little priced high..some.of that stuff was there when I was there years ago.
Great place to look at vintage clothes and other goods. The owner is very knowledgeable and helpful. A great place to visit.
Kinda of snarky people. Overcrowded and overpriced
I echo the same issues others had with the man who I assume is the owner. I was buying a kitchen item he said was unused. I opened it up and it had clearly been used many times over.I asked, Does this work? And he simply said, I dont know. I thought this was curious since theres a sign hanging up that says all sales are final. Why wouldnt the owner either test the electric items that are coming into the store or readily offer to plug it in for me?So I asked to plug it in and he did, and it worked. So I asked him, since the item was clearly used and he had priced it as unused, would he take a lower price? He curtly said no. I thought this was strange too. If youre dealing in used goods, you should expect negotiations. And if negotiations arent an option, then the items should be more reasonably priced than most are there.Lastly, as my friend and I were leaving, we noticed that the owner had come outside and was just standing near the entrance STARING/GLARING(??) at us as we left, got in the car, and drove away.I just. I just dont even know. It left me totally speechless. And also, Im never going back there. The level of strange is just too high for my tolerance.
They have way too much inventory because it is not priced to sell and the man attending lacks a heart for service. Its simply overwhelming and super cramped. Greed has a way of undoing the goal of a store like this. Get real!
I have stopped in several times, nice museum. The guy there is flat out rude. Things are priced well over market value and he wont even entertain any offer off of his arbitrary off the cuff number. Most of the inventory I saw a year ago was still there, and I was promptly reminded why its been a year. Wont be going in again. Ill buy it on ebay
This is the best consignment store Ive ever been to. The seller certainly has a variety of quality items. You could spend a week in that store and still not see everything. The prices are agreeable for such nice and clean items. I go back at least once a month to catch up. Absolutely worth your time!
So much to see here! Could spend hours browsing. Love they have stuff from the jazz age. And they are really fun and nice people here. Cant wait to go back!
Owner is a great guy who is patient & understanding. His shop is like a collectors paradise filled with items one would marvel at. Old license plates, old photos, costume jewelry, vases, statues, vinyl records and the list goes on. I could literally spend days looking through everything.
So much uniqueness in this business. If you are looking for something old this us the place to check out.
On not one but several occasions owner has not sold me records that are out on sales floor. Instead he puts them aside and promises to call me back with a price but never does. What world are you living in?After like the fifth time Its dunzo for me. Great job. Better be careful about your business dealings because now the city guy tells all his friends who used to be your customers.
Attempted to bargain $6 off a dress that had a button falling off of it. The owner aggressively shot back with this is not a TV show HAHA what makes you think I will give you my business with that response? How about a polite no and I would have agreed to pay the full price.
This is one of my favorite places in northeast Ohio. They have every neat thing you remember from your grandmas house, plus a million other items. If you are searching for anything from unique homegoods, furnishings, clothes or jewelry, look here first.
A lot of things in a small place. We went there for the first time while visiting Cleveland. Huge selection. There are a lot items to check so make sure you give yourself enough time. They have everything from furniture to jewelery. Love this store and hope to be back in the future.
Great selection on 30s to 70s clothing
Place is packed with a wide variety of vintage clothing and antiques. You do have to look awhile, but if you do you may find the coolest piece of vintage ever! Staff was very friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend!
This place has everything! If your looking for clothes from years ago, this is the place! I love how you have to look to find anything, things can be covered up for sure! Such a cool place to go. Cant wait to go back!
We absolutely love going into Sweet Lorains anytime were in the Cleveland area, its the very best vintage store around. Youll be amazed at all of the vintage Christmas items. Dont miss out on this jewel!
One of the best vintage stores ive ever shopped. he seems to have at least one of everything and if not, hes got a finger on the button to the past - remarkable! I highly suggest a day trip to Sweet Lorain. Friendly staff and the nicest owner who will take the time to talk and is happy to give a background on any item on which you have questions. Great prices and always good value. Ill guarantee youll visit again and again :-)
Owner is a racist. Customers before my group was provided top notch service. The Male who owns it treated me awful. I was professional and kind. He refused to sell items for me that were on his shelves because he worked too hard to find them and wouldnt budget in the least bit. He continued to be rude when he rang me out and even made rude and uncalled for comments as my group walked out. Ive never experienced anything like that.
Absolutely love this place! Easily the best vintage store in Ohio
Redwin, the owner, is awesome! He knows everything about the pieces in the store. Give him a little info about what youre looking for, and hell find you the perfect thing. He is so great to talk to. The store is huge, there is a new building just for furniture. Make sure you have a few hours to take it all in. Great prices and a great selection.
My wife loves this place. She loves the hats and the jewelry and just walking around. The amazing part is I find stuff for myself too. They have some great vintage cufflinks that I keep going back to get. To be honest, its a little on the expensive side but I feel like youre paying for the experience of the store itself so it works itself out.
I spoke with an extremely rude and disrespectful gentleman on the phone. I was just asking a simple question regarding some of their inventory and the gentleman was very aggressive and unprofessional and hung up on me several times. He proceeded to block my number after only two attempts of calling. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. This gentleman’s concerning behavior needs to be addressed. It is not only unprofessional but unethical. Unfortunately due to this experience I will never be shopping here again.
I am not a big fan of antiques but its hard to not appreciate this boutique. Nice selection of antique classics, vintage items, interesting odds and ends. Reasonable prices too.
Absolutely great. A real treasure trove of mid century items and furniture. Everyone was very helpful. Will definitely be back. Items were reasonably priced and in good condition. This waz a very nice surprise to find and I will assuredly tell others about them. Went to a few other places in Cleveland and no one else came close to matching Sweet Lorains.
Most awesome place for mens vintage clothing as well as cool 50s furniture. Items are in great shape with a large selection. Owner and staff are helpful and nice.
Male owner was rude, disrespectful and lacked customer service. Antique items were great but when checking out the man was EXTREMELY rude and hurtful and it made it VERY clear that he didn’t want us in his store. His comments and remarks were awful.
Great store. Its vintage, but they still have something for everyone. Staff is very helpful, but not pushy. Its definitely worth going even if its just for the experience.
Is NOT handicap friendly, Staff was very rude
This place is Awesome! A real blast from the past, they have just about everything! The prices were reasonable, the condition of the items were good to excellent, and the staff are very helpful and pleasant!!! I resell and I was able to make a nice profit off of my purchases!!
Ladies, avoid this place if you value your self esteem. I have been going to Sweet Lorain for years. I have overlooked the lack of air conditioning, the overcrowded & unkempt racks. I was willing to forego the moth ball infested maze that is this shop. I asked the employee for access to the dressing rooms. And this middle aged man with no right to have an opinion inspected the garments and asked if they were for me. When I responded yes he commented that they may look curvy but are not curvy enough for you so be careful. I do admire this gentlemans dedication to his work as he is in fact an antique. Sir, in 2018 fat shaming your customers is bad business, read up.
Pricing is high on everything. Do not expect any bargains. That said, their selection is amazing. Flower pins are is well represented, but dont expect a lot of 50s glittery costume. Small amount of bakelite.
I have driven past this shop for several years but recently Ive come late to a passion for Mid Century Modern everything. Id looked for tables online and thought surely I can find it locally right? So I stopped into this shop today and my inner decorator whos budget far outweighs whats in my wallet... well, he about died from visual overload. Like... you know the first time you went to the West Side Market? This store is like that overload only for vintage everything from clothing of all styles to macrame to furniture to teak to ashtrays and cocktail glasses to lunchboxes and fiestaware... you get the picture? Had I not been with someone who lacks the same appreciation for said items, I could have happily spent hours just looking and well, mentally purchasing. Prices arent sky high, comparable to a lot of prices I found online. Another reviewer said the place was a maze ... it is that in places but a maze Ill gladly navigate more often now that I discovered the treasures it holds.
This place is absolutely without a doubt my favorite antiques store that I have ever been to! The folks there are very kind, the selection is phenomenal (I could stay in there for hours and still not get to see everything they have on display... Its that amazing), and the pricing is fair! When I walked in yesterday I could have cried, it was like vintage heaven! They had everything you could imagine from magazines, records, home decor, to clothes for all shapes and sizes from each decade from the 1930s on, jewelry, pins, and more. I bought a gorgeous Mexican embroidered top, and a blue nightgown/slip. I may travel 5 hours from home just to come here again!
I walked in looking for an item to give my suit for a wedding a Victorian flair, and walked out with the perfect gift for the groom who is a really good friend. He and I are big James Bond fans and fans of reading. I found him 3 vintage James Bond paperbacks that he loved! My girlfriend also found a dress that was perfect for the occasion. Went back today and found six other Bond novels. The prices are very reasonable, the store is huge, and Redwyne, the owner, is a blast to talk to and really knows his stuff. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for that perfect piece of the past!
Excellent ornamental glass.Other than that, typical antique shop. Worth the time.
I LOVE this place! Yes, its expensive. But it is literally filled to the brim with vintage treasures! If you have an afternoon free, I suggest going and just browsing here! You never know what you might find!
Clean and very organized! Very wide variety! Good prices too!
The vintage vibe is mastered from A to Z: from the dishes to the clothes to the electronics, shopping here is an entertaining experience. Dont forget the lamps are to die for.
Several years back, I wrote a rather unfounded and scathing review of Sweet Lorrain. Having recently revisited the store, I am forced to confront an uncomfortable truth: quite simply this is the best antique shop on Earth. So what accounts for my volte face? Wisdom. Whether gained from a decade selling antiques in markets across the Midwest, or accrued by the incessant advance toward becoming an antique myself, I now wish I could retract my diatribe. Like the Noah’s Ark of antique shops, Sweet Lorrain is a gem in Cleveland’s crown. If you go, prepare to spend a few hours gawking.
Great shop! Tons of cool stuff at decent prices and a friendly owner.
My most favorite vintage shop in all of Northeastern Ohio. The place is huge and well-organized. Stop in and see Redwin and tell him I sent you.
This guy is flat out NUTS...Be very careful dealing with him (Edwin)...He is a flat out liar. Tries to sell items online and does not even have in stock, and/or sells to someone else. His ebay account has same exact feedback. he has been reported to the Better Business Bureau, and Ohio Sate Revenue Dept. Read the other reviews he called the police on a couple, and wents nuts on them. BE VERY CAREFUL, I AM TRYING TO HELP YOU OUT, DONT GET TIED UP WITH HIM!
There was way to much stuff there, a lot of the items were overpriced (even though they were vintage). It was just all around not an amazing experience.
The perfect place to get lost for an hour or two. Staff is always warm and chatty. Wide range of quality items.
Great antiques and collectibles. Very large store. Memories!
Excellent place to explore for unique items!
The man that showed me around was supper nice ... and told awesome jokes
Hot hot place must go! Must see! Must shop!
Worth the stop a wonderful shopping experience
Wonderful...There is SO MUCH STUFF
Cool place. Pricey.
Fabulous! Great stuff! Ill be back!
The person who answers the phone is always rude and sound like they dont want to be there or theyre in such a rush to get off the phone to attend to absolutely no one.
The owner is a misogynist who openly makes rude comments about women’s body’s to their faces. DONT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS.
Horrific. There are many outstanding antique malls and stores in Ohio, which can proudly claim to be the antiques capital of the US. My wife and I, veteran antiquers, have visited dozens of them. Never have we had such a humiliating experience as at Sweet Lorain. The ponytailed individual who calls himself the owner does not know how to run a business, unless his intent is simply to lord over a shabby chic forum for harassing the public. During our recent visit, said owner insulted my wife when she was looking through some vintage clothing, and then ejected us from the store when she questioned his bad manners. He subsequently called the police when we refused to leave as ordered. We then left to avoid a confrontation that could have turned absurdly ugly, but we feel obliged to warn the public about this clearly misanthropic person. Do not believe the Google reviews; Yelp gives you a more accurate idea of what you will face should you dare to venture inside. And the inventory (unless youre in the market for 70s vintage gentlemens magazines) is not worth the visit; this is the kind of hubristic establishment that believes that any stained upholstered curbside cast-off from the 1960s becomes a Mid-Century Classic if you put a high enough price on it. Avoid; the great city of Cleveland deserves better.
Crazy selection of stuff. Great service finding what I needed!
Some great things, but really cluttered and too many not so good things.
A wide variety of vintage & retro items you name it they have it from zippo lighters to clothing of the 30s & 40s & everything in between.
They were very helpful
Be prepared to take your time, theres A Lot to see and sift through, magazines, jewelry, hats, clothing, furniture, and more!
Amazing vintage finds! ...a little pricey, but beautiful things...
Decent place, a lot of junk though
I grew up in the 1960s and its like going back in time!
Prices are wayyyyy too high
Can get lost in here
Amazing!!!!
Interesting stuff, lots of small jewelry but no bulk deals. Everything priced individually and firm, which in my mind is a little ridiculous.
