My son and I have only visited once, so I have only first impressions to offer. Our usual haunt is in Wheaton, but the new semester at UMD is about to start -- and it was Free Comic Book Day -- so, checking out College Parks comic shop seemed like a good idea.First, its clean and modern, with none of that old-school dinge. Ill say the quiet part out loud -- that this is clearly a welcoming, non-gatekeeping shop. Then again, Id like to think that theyre all welcoming by now...The shop seems to focus on new pubs, but there is a small set of classic comic boxes for the older stuff. They do know how to display a classic comic.I should mention the Dungeons & Dragons corner (and separate dice display). A person could happily set more than a few campaigns with whats available.I didnt get to chat much with the staff. FCBD means customers! But everyone seemed nice, authentic, and as professional as could be.

They had a lot of mangas / comics as well as figures. It was really clean as well and the prices are pretty fair.

Hard to park here but the store itself is awesome. Well organized and great helpful staff.

Big Planet Comics is the best comic book store I’ve ever been to bar none. The store has everything you need for comic book collectors or just casual comic book readers. The customer service is 2nd to none. It is a very relaxing atmosphere. I have chronic and debilitating panic disorder/ PTSD/ & OCD and this place keeps me calm. Still sweating profusely, but it’s the most I’ve been relaxed outside of my house. Also the price there for comic books are reasonable.

Hubby loved the cozy small shop feel with lots of great finds.

My local comic book store and the experice is noting but great always staying up to date on issues. And if issue is not in stock they will order. Very professional place with good staff.

Nice little shop, they have a lot of newer and older selection but every single time I come in and ask a question the employee always seems lost with no real direct answer.I understand if it was for something off the wall but even simple questions get you a blank look.

Outstanding store for Comics and graphic novels as well as super hero and villain figurines. I have been going to this location for over 20yrs. I know from experience if you have a young child that doesnt want to read or like school, introduce them to comic, they will start learning without realizing it. The staff has always been pleasant and I recently went back to by plastic bags and boards for my SPAWN comic book collection. And it felt like the first time I walked into the store. Great memories.

I head down to Big Planet Comics to play dungeons & dragons on weekends and theyve always been very welcoming and friendly with our regular groups. Theyve got a decent selection of comics at good prices. Gotten a small handful of things from there after we finish up our d&d sessions.

Great selection of comics, with both an all ages, and young adult section, separated from the main sections. After that, they have most things arranged by genre, which is refreshing, since most places stick to alphabetical. Staff were lovely, and friendly. Very willing to help.

Great selection here. Old and new stuff. The staff is extremely helpful. I was surprised how well versed everyone was in all things comic and movie related. I liked the way everything was organized and easy to find. I have been to many store in many states and this place definitely ranks among the best. Check it out if youre in the area.

This place totally rocks. With knowledgeable service, enthusiastic help, kindness, and enthusiasm, all the assistants in this store are fantastic. Every time I visit I marvel at the array of current comics and graphic novels, the wide range of assorted comics-related paraphernalia, and gaming products as well. Its a wonderland for any comics-enthusiast. Theres a camaraderie here that is rare these days. Once I found this place I never looked back. This store caters for every age range and interest. Just the best in every way.

Well organized and friendly, the staff knows their stuff. Parking is always weird in College Park, but it is worth it.

I get my books there every week. Staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about comics. Huge selection so they have something to read no matter what youre looking for. Lots of smaller press and indie stuff, and the staff always have lots of non-superhero comic suggestions. New comics are clearly laid out, with each weeks new comics marked so you can easily find ones you missed. Would recommend this shop to anyone.

Nice, shop in college Park but when I entered nobody really seem to jump to ask me if I needed help.

After the great reviews i decided to check it out.But i have to disagree the staff is friendly to there regular customers. Entering there establishment it was clean and organized. But few minutes each patron whom enter was greeted with a smile and friendly hello. Not cool and dude was black which is worst i love comic books and love to support the local area but never again yo.

This was a great experience, the cashier lady was really nice to us. And the place looked so awesome! It had toys, comics, funkos pops, basically anything comic book related! Spectacular place!

I love this place! I love the people, how organized they are, theyre very welcoming and are always willing to help you out. The area is quite nice too I love being able to get my comics and stoping by the restaurants or Starbucks to enjoy them. Good customer service! I have found the employees to be very patient, even when I have my two boys with me ( 7 & 4 yes). Above all they have an excellent selection and the space for comics.

All the staff are friendly and helpful. The selection is what you would expect: varied and ample. And the location is very convenient for me, with metered parking nearby (theres very limited free parking in College Park).

Play magic at the weekly fnm event when Im in the area. Most of the people who play there are students at the University of Maryland and apart of the magic club. I have never had a bad time and enjoy playing the local community.

I was very unhappy about how I was treated. The man who helped me was rude and snide when I asked a question about a comic. While he was polite to other (male) customers, I felt talked-down to and belittled because I am female, and because, while I have extensive background in sci-fi and drama comics, I have little experience with superhero comics (which is what my question was in regard to). I will never be spending another cent at this store!

The guys there are knowledgeable about not just the big 2 publishers and the trendy indys but also the more obscure literate graphic novels and foreign titles. Ive gotten numerous recommendations from Topham, John, and the others and the winners for me far far out number the ones that didnt work for me. Their ability to order back issues and out of stock while not 100% is greatly aided by access to the back issue and overstock of the other area stores.While the usual insider geek-talk found in every FLCS is found here, and can be off putting to casual readers or those just in off the street, the guys do go out of their way to help parents looking for age-appropriate titles and casuals looking for a single title that might interest them. They make a point of reading thru most new books that come in the store and, to their credit, will warn people when a stinker is on the shelves.
