Im not gonna lie: I thought this place was all hype, what with the exorbitant prices and select locations, I figured it was just a passing fad. I couldnt have been more wrong. The place was crowded with people on a Friday at 12:30pm (usually office hours for most people, so that speaks volumes of the level of demand these donuts get). The ambiance was nice, the people were friendly and courteous, and the donuts (the main star of the event) were big, fluffy and fresh. They truly go the extra mile even with the tiny little cute box that people get when purchasing donuts (I only got 3 and they gave me a tiny box to go with them). My total came to be a little bit over 13 dollars (a tad pricey, hence the 4 stars instead of 5). I tried the Apple Fritter, the Vanilla Bean Glazed and the Choc-A-Lot. This definitely wont be a weekly thing but for sure itll be a monthly thing to quench my gourmet donuts cravings.
This is one of the best places to get donuts. Dont expect $1 glazed. This is a specialty donut shop and they are all worth every penny. I suggest getting a variety of doughnuts and cut them into sections and sample each 1 with whoever you are with. They have other locations and they are all excellent.
Sidecar has ruined me. I cant eat doughnuts from any other establishment. Thats kind of a good thing because whatever pink box shows up at an office or gathering, Im not going to bother with it. On the other hand, its also bad because whenever I come here, I go ham. These truly are the freshest doughnuts youll find anywhere, and you can taste the quality in every bite. I love hearing about when they get recognized for their work because they deserve every bit of it.
Sidecar Doughnuts are always amazing! I love how they always have new flavors to go with the season as well as their staple flavors! I’ve been to multiple locations and haven’t been disappointed at any of them! The line is usually pretty long, but they have a very efficient system so it doesn’t take long and even if it did, the wait would be worth it!
Been hearing about this place for ages. Finally visited for my daughters birthday. Wow. I bought 4. Glazed, Cinnamon, Celebration and Chocolate. Every one was amazing. The decor inside the store is dark and cool and feels like youre in NY rather than California. Great service by knowledgeable staff. Just a great experience all round. Ill be back.
Hands down the best donuts in SoCal but there are others and eventually there will be better... Itsdisappointing to see the employees at Sidecar not wear masks and speaking directly over the donuts without a glass guard or anything to protect them. I expected more from this place..it must be an OC thing..
Best donuts around town I think. You’re paying about 3.25-4.50 per donut but let me tell you! They ARE worth it. My favorite one is the chocolate cookie dough donut it has a hint of salt and is so delicious and goes awesome with whatever coffee your having. The staff here is really nice, patient, and friendly to everyone and they get you in and out of the door very quickly!10/10 recommend!!!
Besides finding parking in this busy plaza, its fun to visit this tiny donut shop. They have unique flavors that change seasonally and you can grab some coffee with them. They limit two parties inside during this time for covid precautions but it goes pretty quick. Definitely worth a visit to try a few donuts for breakfast or as a dessert after eating somewhere else.
We were greated immediately after walking in. The customer service was amazing. Im sad that I forgot to ask for her name before I left. She ran through almost each flavor with me since it was my first visit.I chose the Huckleberry Donut and the vegan chai donut. The Huckleberry was probably my favorite of the two. Its a fan favorite as it should be. The texture of the doughnut is the perfect balance of soft and dense. The berries tasted fresh. The flavors unfold as you chew through each bite. Now for the Vegan Chai Donut ! I was sceptical that it was vegan but it was absolutely delicious! It reminds me almost of a spice cake. The spices mend perfectly beneath the frosting. If you are vegan, you will not be disappointed. Now the prices are on the higher end for a donut, but you are paying for unique flavors and quality. Its still worth the visit and I would come back again.
This has been on my bucket list for quite some time now, and finally I checked it off today (though I can promise you it won’t be the last time I visit). This location is on the small side, with no indoor seating (unless there were barstools at the window, but I don’t believe I saw any), and it can be busy I’m guessing because of the crowd that was there, and because they serve up beautiful and delicious donuts.I ordered a monthly special one (Celebration Cake) and a chocolate donut. To be fair, I’ve only tried the Celebration Cake one so far, but it was INCREDIBLE. A true donut (not these mass produced generic tasting ones). It was fresh and tasty and big. The chocolate one I’m sure will be a winner, because it just looks scrumptious. The staff were friendly and they offer suggestions of what to order if the selection just seems overwhelming. If you’re a donut fan, and want good size, reasonably priced and delicious donuts, Sidecar is the place to go. I highly recommend it!!
This review is based on online / pick up order service only! My daughter placed an order 40 minutes prior to getting to the costa mesa location. I arrived 15 minutes early, and gave my name, once to the guy outside by the tent, then to the lady behind the window. It took them 10 minutes to locate my order and then to inform me that I was early and they are not able to fill it for the next 1/2 hour. I understand being busy, but placing 4 donuts in a box takes 1 minute, that is 4 minutes less time for you guys to get the manager to refund me.
The most beautiful donuts youll ever see. Great service, too. Dont be afraid of the long line. It moves pretty fast.
Regarding side car donuts I dont know what all the big hoopla is about. This is a real sugar-Fest. So if you love sugar you would love this place. I found my donut to be under cooked and way over sugared. Id rather go to Pop Pie next door in Costa Mesa, If I am having a little sweet tooth. However, having said all this, the main attraction at Sidecar doughnuts is the Huckleberry doughnut. It is the Star of the show and worth the wait.
Interesting selection but can feel heavy as in cake like if your into that. Not light as in original kk donuts. Still a decent choice.
First time there; I was very excited! So many yummy smells and choices! The staff was super friendly and helpful, and omg! Im still finishing up my delicious donuts!!😋😊
Hands down one of my favorite donut shops ever. The quality is spectacular and there is a donut there for everyone. They have all of these extravagant types of donuts and yet some days, I just want a buttermilk donut hole. I can taste the freshness and its so damn tasty. In the mornings, there tends to be a line but it goes by pretty quickly.
Some of the best doughnuts Ive ever had! I went on a Saturday morning and the line was out the door. The employees were friendly and efficient so the line moved quickly. I bought the old fashioned and chocolate yeast, both of which were fresh and warm. The chocolate was delicious but the old fashioned was outstanding! I cant wait to go back.
Best gourmet doughnuts in town!!! I salivate every time I walk in. I love their fall inspired flavors - pumpkin everything, sweet potato, and huckleberry... they have also mastered the savory ones - basil eggs Benedict / maple bacon. Wow, just wow. Be prepared though, they can be a bit pricey... it’s basically a meal replacement though with all the richness/carbs! Definitely worth it to treat yourself though. 🤗🍩
OverviewRight after brunch at Plum Cafe, headed straight to Sidecar. Line was average (about 12 people ahead of me). Awesome donuts, line moves fast. Not your average donut, not your average prices. What I orderedI wish I could remember all of them: Huckleberry, Strawberry Buttermilk, Butter + Salt and more.ProsSmall batches of fresh, locally sourced ingredients - talk about awesome!ConsThese donuts are NOT cheap, youre looking at about ~$40 for a dozen here folks.Tips1. You have to try these at least once.2. Not a place you would go daily for most, so when you go, buy what youll only eat - short shelf life!
These donuts are so good! The salt and butter one was our favorite. I also got a caramel latte and it was amazing. The staff was very friendly, and even though the line was long, it moved really quickly!
These donuts are amazing! I will definitely be getting these more often.
The best special occasion donut shop you could imagine! Many treats that are over the top and unique based on high quality toppings. The donuts themselves are good but comparable to other popular local areas. The main attraction for us is always their egg Benedict. Coffee selection is also very good! Be prepared for long lines and constant sell outs of popular items. Additionally, I would not recommend this for large group events or office meetings as you will easily rack up a 100 dollars plus. This place is over the top expensive...
You’ve NEVER experienced doughnuts 🍩 of this caliber! The sheer size, the choice of flavours!!! Just wow. And that box? Epic.
Their doughnuts are top notch. Super fresh and everyone things they are amazing, no matter where I bring them.
This place is sooooooooooo over hyped. NOTHING SPECIAL about these donuts. Not one bit! These donuts r a bit dense. I prefer the more fluffy, lighter style donuts. When you come here, you might run into a line, so be patient.
Pricey but once you eat their donuts, you cannot go back! Superb seasonal selection and Huckleberry is a must try!
On my last trip to LA, I made it a point to go to as many ice cream and donut shops as possible for whatever reason. Out of the 4 I went to, this was by far the highest quality donuts with the most unique, well crafted, subtle and adult flavors- truly gourmet. You will not find crazy sweet things here, this is for the refined palette. The Thai Iced Tea, and the Chocolate Basil were among my favorites- so unique and delicious. I was almost sad I had to share my box of donuts, except for the fact that I could not physically eat all of them before they went stale. These were just the absolute best donuts I have ever had in my life. These are perfect for those snobby people who think donuts are for kids or just card-filled breakfast things for the lower classes. These donuts are a thing of beauty.
The best donuts in SoCal, hands down! Butter and Salt is my favorite flavor (and passion fruit when its on the seasonal menu).
My daughter ordered three doughnuts including a lemon poppyseed for me. When she got home there was a plain glazed doughnut in place of a lemon poppyseed. Very disappointed!
Sweet novelty treats! Always busy though, I recommend ordering online if in a rush
The donuts are AMAZING. So fresh and fluffy…they melt in your mouth. I docked 1 star because trying to get a coffee/latte is a nightmare. It took them over 1.5 hrs to make us ONE CUP OF COFFEE. It’s ridiculous
Their donuts are on another level. Itll blow you away. Pretty costly but more than worth the experience/taste. 😋👍🏾
Apple fritters Friday! You are happy because youre getting awesome donuts, and then the staff will make it even happier. They are welcoming and cheerful. You cant go wrong with Choc-a-lot!
Just do it! Donuts are killer. Perfect cake donuts with a crispy exterior crust and pillowy soft center. Pricey but oh so worth it for a tasty treat. You will not be disappointed
I rated it three stars because of the price and my personal preference. We got 8 donuts for $32; you can get 2 dozens and a half at Krispy Kreme! We’ve heard that these donuts at Sidecar have won awards and been titled the best donuts in the OC and all the rage and don’t get me wrong they were good but not sure if it’s worth the money. It’s a novelty for sure, try them once and you’ll know if it’s your cup of tea. For me, I prefer my donuts to be light and airy, so I can probably save a couple of bucks and just be happy with Krispy Kreme. Sidecar donuts do taste good, they have so many intriguing flavors, you can taste the freshness in the dough and the thought process that went into the progress of making each and every one of their donuts. It’s fancy high end donuts! Who doesn’t love that. They are very big and come in a very beautiful box. If you haven’t had them, try them and see what the rage is all about. For me, I’m happy with fresh off the belt original glazed Krispy Kreme!
Sidecar continues to be my favorite place to get donuts. I’ve been coming to this location for many years before I started going to their Torrance location and of course Fairfax. Always worth the trip for these donuts. No matter the day of the week. If you haven’t tried them you’re definitely missing out on some amazing donuts in your life!
Mothers Day Cluster - The donuts are fantastic however the service is not so great. Placed an order only to find out it wouldnt be ready for 2 hours after the order was put on hold for 25 min. Tried to contact the store nobody answered the phone. Lost my money because I cant get back to them. They need to do something about this because this is really a bad customer experience overall. Unfortunate I like their product.Update - drove for 20 minutes to come and get my order at 11 3 hours after I placed it only to find out that tgey were still way way behind. What a cluster. I dont know what the hells going on with them on a Mothers Day no less.
These donuts are literally fresh (to the point you might need to wait 10 min) and fresh unique. I usually check out the rest of the day because I eat 5 or 6 and thats something that no grown adults body is ready for. Did I have a headache? Yes. Was I happier than I should have been? Absolutely. Just do it. They do cost a lil more than an average donut but youre getting some serious quality
The donuts are packed nicely in a box and its definitely an Instagram worthy item. Butter & salt has that perfect balance of sweet and salty and you can definitely taste the quality in the donut and brown butter. Old fashion has some notable spices and reminded me of fall, and the salted malted chocolate chip cookie dough seems perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth.
Not sure what the hype is all about. We purchased a selection of these doughnuts. They were pricey, not very flavorful, and extremely dense. Felt more like eating a muffin or some kind of pastry with a bread-like consistency than a fluffy, light doughnut.
Ive been following Sidecar on Instagram forever, and I was finally able to visit today! This was a destination visit because we are from out of state. Although pricey, this was a doughnut experience I wont forget! We tried almost everything. PUMPKIN PIE & EVERYTHING SPICEwith mascarpone pumpkin mousse was delicious and definitely one of my favorites. We loved the huckleberry, the spiced apple Cider and the sweet potato too. The butter and salt was good and the classic old fashioned had the perfect texture and it melted in our mouths! I liked the classic glazed and choc-a-lot too but Id skip them next time. The customer service was so good and we had a really fun visit. Thank you!
Truly special donuts, they make Dunkin look like something you wouldn’t feed to your dogs.
AMAZING DOUGHNUTS! They are served fresh every hour so you’re almost always guaranteed to get a warm delicious doughnut. They have about 20 different flavors such as chocolate, the old fashion, butter and salt (DELICIOUS), Snickers, and gluten free options as well. There is no seating area inside but a few tables outside. Parking is available on site. They also have drinks such as latte, coffee, etc. Service is quite fast, so perfect place for a doughnut if you are on a rush.
Matcha is weak and watered down. Butter and salt is the best one.
The best doughnuts I have ever tasted. The basil egg Benedict is one of my favourites.
Great trendy donut shop. We especially loved the pumpkin pie donut and the Huckleberry donut. (YUM)
Fritter Friday is the best. Great donuts. Great staff. Thank you. Until next time.
Line out the door and down the sidewalk... and totally worth the wait. Just had a fresh Huckleberry and it melted in my mouth. Be prepared for a wait on most days, and the price per donut is high, but you definitely get what you wait and pay for. 😁
My favorite doughnut shop in Orange County. These are so amazing. I’ve only been here twice, but everything I’ve tasted has been phenomenal. It’s enough to make you skip lunch or dinner just to have more of these doughnuts, let me tell you. It’s outstanding! I really have to save these for a treat, because they are so tasty you won’t want to stop eating them. Can’t recommend highly enough.
AMAZING donuts 🍩 Ive been going here for years. Pricy but worth it for a special treat now and then
Long list of donuts that will make any mouth water. We tried some Cinco de Mayo themed donuts. Horchata, Mexican Hot Chocolate and a staple Sidecar donut Butter & Salt. My fave out of the 3; butter & salt. Whats not to love about butter, salt and sugar? There are a couple new of monthly favors popping up and obviously the originals. And what are donuts without coffee? Here youll find some nitro brewed, regular brewed, cool, hot and Vietnamese styled coffees.Parking is Italy hard to find because its in a place with shared parking. Although there is also parking behind the in the alley as well. The shop is cozy and most of the time there is a wait, but the line is efficient. The donuts are pricier than most places, but are definitely more intricate than most places. Come check them out!
Splurged and Ordered a 1/2 dozen for my mom and friend visiting. The celebration donut and the pumpkin spice seasonal donut were by far my favorites. But I wouldnt go out of my way to order these even 1x a month.
Its your typical donut shop, they just need more help, only one person taking orders both times we visited.
I loved their donaught my favourite is the cardamom orange and the coffee was pretty good as well
Second time here. Continuously have heard great thing about this exotic donuts.Despite being so expensive, each time I have been disappointed. This is probably my last time!
A few visits there so far. Its over half hour away from our home, but well be going back from time to time for a big treat. Fresh, big doughnuts, large selection. Too good! Coffee & espresso is good too.
Freshest donuts around OC with all the unique flavors to try that you cant just get one, you have to get a bunch and share them!
Their doughnuts are so good that its my workout motivation for the entire week lol. We got the thin mint and the chocolate chip cookie dough. Both super good and I like the thin mint one more since its softer. The chocolate chip cookie dough one is chunkier. Cant wait to come back again really soon! overall is good
I realize thirs is a real cool. Happenin place, but the donuts were a little toofancy for my taste.I wish they had offered, a conventional quality donut.
Best donut, has unique creation with different flavor. Worth it
According to their sign, the doughnuts are created from their original recipe. They fry the doughnuts in small batches every hour and they dont use preservatives. If you are thirsty, they have coffee too. Outside you will see the list of the donut flavors written on a standing chalkboard.~Donuts~I liked the Vanilla Twist it had vanilla glaze of course and the Huckleberry was purple. My favorite would be the Maple Bacon, it was so good!! It was topped with bacon pieces. Im not a lemon lover but the Lemon Yellow donut was not bad. It was glazed and it had a yellow flower in the middle. The Chocolate Malt had powdered sugar (I think) and a malt ball placed in the center of the donut. It didnt have the chocolate flavor I was looking for. All the donuts that we tasted was fresh. The donuts were not airy but they it was moist. While you decide on the donut, you can see the team baking the donuts. The glaze and sweetness of each donut was just right. Sometimes I find some donuts to have too much glaze and its too sweet. Also, each donut was decorated with class, neat and cute. I would come back for more. From all the donuts that I tasted, I think the Maple Bacon was delicious.~Customer Service~There was a line so the staff did a good job making sure everyone was taken care of.~Notes~-There is a line but it goes by fast-Outdoor seating (seats limited)-Parking lot
Worth the wait for the delicious treasures
OMG it was my first time to try this donuts shop was so great! Truthfully, I am not really fan of donuts, but I think I am felt in love with this place:) my boyfriend took me this place and It was such a small place and I went there afternoon on Sunday a little crowded. I was waiting the line for a bit. Whenever I order the donuts i asked to worker any recommendation she told me huckleberry donuts is the most popular one so I got that one and butter&salt also maple bacon. Butter & Salt was my favorite one!! All breads’ textures were different it was surprisingly all unique and donuts were warm was so great this part!:). Me and my boyfriend also got the one iced latte and one iced americano were good, but Latte was much better than iced americano. I am highly recommended this place! Definitely you should try this donuts:) I will defiantly going to get more later on.
